“Bro, You Can Break The Bank.”

February 18th, 2024

So how good was Bucs second-year defensive tackle Logan Hall last season?

Joe isn’t doing cartwheels. Hall transitioned into being a starter and wrapped up his 2023 season totaling two tackles for loss and a half-sack.

That won’t make anyone forget veteran Will Gholston, who was much better than Hall when Gholston was a second-year player in 2014.

Still, there’s plenty of love for Hall around One Buc Palace, starting with Gholston himself.

“Every day I work with [Hall.] He’s going to be a dominant player without a doubt,” Gholston said on WDAE radio.

“Once every single thing, part of his game — like he has the finesse, the power. Once he does that thing every single snap consistently, and I tell him all the time, ‘Bro, you can break the bank. You big. You strong. You fast. You can’t coach that.’ He’s going to be an animal.”

Gholston is a super positive dude. He loves all his teammates; at least that’s what he expresses publicly. Still, that’s tremendous praise for Hall.

Joe sure hopes Gholston is correct. If not, Joe wouldn’t mind the Bucs bringing back Gholston for his 12th Bucs season. They needed him last year but he didn’t re-sign until mid-July.

Note to all the Trask nut huggers, do you hear anyone saying that about Trask. Despite your crush, the players and coaches who see him every day know he’s not the guy.

  2. Capt.Tim Says:

Nice of Gholsten to speak kindly of his line mates.
But I know what Im watching.

Hall is weak and slow motored. He was one of many disappointments on our Dline

  3. JimBobBuc Says:

Hall’s stats are amazing for a guy drafted at #33.

  4. catcard202 Says:

The question remains if what timeframe Hall finds a way to put it together or if he really will.

  5. QBKilla Says:

Hall is a bust for pick 33. Gholston is talking out of his A#$.

  6. Ugotrobbed Says:

Hall must practice much better than he plays! Hasn’t shown up much in games.

  7. WillieG Says:

I can only think of one thing he’s done and it isn’t good.

  8. kgh4life Says:

If Hall was that guy, he would’ve come into his own already.

  9. Hearty Dickerson Says:

Half a sack over the course of an entire season. As a starter. You’d think he’d at least luck into one. It’s almost like he was avoiding the QB.

  10. ChrisBuc2327 Says:

This guy is as useless as JTS. Another wasted pic. We need to get more dawgs on the Dline. Get all of the cotton kitty kat players outta here 💯

  11. ChrisBuc2327 Says:

Wasted pick 🗑️🗑️🗑️ and as useless as JTS. We need to get more
Physical and get some more dawgs on the Dline 🎯

  12. Bobby M. Says:

Not sure what is being asked of Hall in the scheme but I’ve never noticed him make any splash plays. There were plays where Kancey stood out, even JTS made a memorable play during the season but Hall seems to stay off the radar.

  13. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Perhaps Gholston is talking about Hall playing speed – although I don’t see it. He runs like his 40 time in Combine times of 4.88, which is not bad but not great either. Compare that to Kancey 40 time of 4.67.

  14. Dave Pear Says:

Gholston needs to come back. He’s the only leader of the D-linemen and Sloweszo sure as hell doesn’t offer any help.

  15. Marine Buc Says:

I have seen progress with L. Hall.

When we drafted him he weighed @ 260 lbs. – he put on @ 30 lbs of muscle and has room to add more.

Let’s give him one more season before we make him walk the plank…

D-lineman seem to take at least a few seasons to develop fully.

  16. RagingBrisket Says:

He plays like he isn’t on the roster. Wasted draft pick

  17. Pickgrin Says:

    2023

    Logan Hall – 543 snaps(48.2%) – 22 Tackles (11 solo) – .5 sacks – 2 TFLs – 2 Pressures – 1 hurry – 1 QB hit – 0 QB knockdowns – 2 Balls batted down – 2 Fumbles Recovered

    Calijah Kancey (R) – 577 snaps (51.2%) – 26 Tackles (19 solo) – 4 sacks – 10 TFLs – 13 Pressures – 3 hurries – 12 QB hits – 6 QB knockdowns – 1 Ball batted down

  18. Buc4evr Says:

Hall is a bust just like JTS. Both these guys need to be gone. They both are terrible and never get to the QB. If the Bucs don’t have a dominant D line they are never getting back to the SB.

  19. CTBucs Says:

Hall definitely improved this year. The position he plays is never going to show up heavily on the stat sheet. To compare his stats to Kanceys is a stretch with what they are asked to do. Hall played decent against the run, looked stronger. He’s still only 23 years old and will improve. Go Bucs!

  20. Craig Says:

Hall is a real football player, versus JTS, who sat out his senior year.

Very few NFL DL guys work well in their first year. Kancey is a freak because of his speed. Hall isn’t/ He will bloom some this season because he will grow into his body.

He seemed smart enough to make things better for himself. He did get flattened a few times, but will learn from that. Kancey will also help him work on speed moves.

The Bucs need an interior LB and some OL backup more than DL

  21. I remember 21 Says:

Willie & Bobby are spot on. Hall is more likely to break in to a bank than break the bank with a big NFL contract. I’ve worked with people like this before. Have them train people and everybody they train is “great.” Just statistically it’s impossible, and trust me, the trainees didn’t disprove the numbers. Some people just can’t disconnect liking someone from accepting them being bad at their job (a la bowles & Hainsey previously). If you figure Belichick & the Patriots are on one end of the spectrum (no loyalty due to liking a player), it seems the Bucs are at or near the opposite end (with players and coaches alike). I think it would serve the team well to move closer to the center. Bruce was bad about it (loyal to “his” guys to a fault), but it has continued even after his “resignation.”

  22. Capt.Tim Says:

We have a few “misses” on the D line.
Guys that havent earned their Keep
JTS has had enough time. Time to go.
    Hall might get another year.

Pass rush has to be our priority.
Sign a FA, then draft a guy in first 3 rounds.
Then keep Yaya, Shaq, Nelson, Watts, Vea, and Kancey on close watch in off season programs.
Get a pass rush, fix that terrible o line- and we’ll go even futher in the playoffs this year( assuming we sign Mayfield/Evans/etc)

  23. SlyPirate Says:

Love it. Put the work in. Every Bucs fans is full of support for our players.

  24. Lakeland Steve Says:

I’m not a fan of Hall. The only thing he has accomplished as a Buc was to destroy the career of one of the best Centers in the league, for no good reason. It was even supposed to be a full speed drill.

  25. Bobby Says:

Yes bring back Gholston. He can still play.

  26. Fansince76 Says:

    Hall sucks period!

  27. Conner50 Says:

    Yaya Winfield
Shut up bro the post wasn’t even about trask and he’s our second string qb quit bashing a team player who hasn’t played. Gonna bash someone bash white, JTS or Ryan neal

  28. Larrd Says:

Cameron Heyward had 20 tackles and 1.5 sacks his second year, pretty much in line with Hall’s numbers. Gholston had 3 sacks and 30 tackles in his second year.

A team built for long term success needs guys like Heyward and Gholston and Hall. Longtime horses in the trenches who aren’t All Pros every year with huge contracts. The Steelers always have nameless lugs playing end for 8 or 10 years.

  29. StormyInFl Says:

The only thing Hall broke (or ever will break) is Ryan Jensen’s career.

  30. Usfbucs Says:

Hall is probably about as good as he is going to get. To me it seems high impact players stand out in their first season. Solid but not great players make contributions in their second season. Finally you have rotational players who are easily replaced they don’t show up until their third season or later. Hall looks to fall into this last category at best.

  31. BillyBucco Says:

Geez you guys WANT a Micah Parsons every year or they are “trash” or a “ bust”.
Most of the time these guys need TIME to develop. And if you have a team FULL of Micah Parsons you couldn’t afford them anyway.
He will be better in year 3 after learning how to play on a bigger frame.
It’s easy to project a guy will bust when he doesn’t fill out the stat sheet. What Gholston is doing is the opposite and he sees him EVERY DAY.
Let the guy learn, he is doing fine.
    Good Luck Hall.
    Go earn those dollars!!!!

  32. captivajim Says:

    Hall is a bust !!!!!

  33. Mike Says:

Sometimes it takes a few years for things to click for a player. Let’s hope he blows up next season!

  34. Larrd Says:

A lot of Bucs fans would be better off following the Harlem Globetrotters, though they’d probably think Goose or Curly sucks because they aren’t Meadowlark.
