“I’m Glad You’re Here To Watch Us Play”

January 12th, 2024

Bucs legend Derrick Brooks shares a moment.

Throw all the pregame chatter aside. The real question for the Bucs is whether they are willing/ready to show up Monday night as a punishing, physical and focused team.

Collectively, they haven’t been the past two Sundays.

How did the arch rival slimy Saints roll into Tampa two Sundays ago and punch the Bucs in the mouth in a must-win game? It’s remains a mystery today. And it’s unclear why the Bucs needed heroic plays and penalties to handle the two-win Panthers on Sunday.

Joe believes the Bucs come out firing and furious against the reeling Eagles on Monday, then Tampa Bay should be able to win.

Can Todd Bowles have his team ready?

Joe brings this up after listening to Buccaneers legend Derrick Brooks on the Brooks and Beckles podcast. Brooks talked about greeting bruising Saints 35-year-old linebacker Demario Davis on the field before the game.

Brooks said Davis was respectful and said, “How you doing, legend, I’m glad you’re here to watch us play.”

Brooks responded, he said, with something like, ‘You guys are always grinding; it’s going to be a good one.’

Per Brooks, Davis replied, “No, man, I’m glad you’re here to watch us play” — as in get ready to see what we’re going to do to the Bucs.

“I said, ‘Oh, boy,” Brooks reflected on the podcast.

Brooks explained that he always watches Bucs opponents warming up looking for whatever he can pick up from how the are preparing: “After that first drive, I just had a feeling.”

Brooks said he saw a Saints team falling forward and no pressure on Derek Carr: two bad signs for the Bucs that proved to be accurate.

If the Bucs don’t bring a lot of juice and their A-game on Monday night, Joe is going to have breakdown. Mistakes happen, coaches get outcoached, but players always have to come to play.

Seems like DA had them ready to play mid-flight.

    Amen

  3. Rob Says:

Come on Buc fans! Let’s be loud as hell for the game and please don’t sell your seats to the highest bidder (Eagle fans). We need to have a much better showing of Buc fans than we did earlier this year. Probably 70 percent of section 143 was freaking Eagle fans for our first game with them and it sucked sitting in a sea of green. I’ll be there. Will the Bucs show up and kick that Eagle butt? God, I hope so. GO BUCS!!!

  4. infomeplease Says:

The team that comes to play will live to play 6 or 7 days later!!

I think that all the usual pre-game hype from both the national and regional media (including this site) is just a lot of BS! No one can accurately predict who’s going to win a game based on an opposing player who happens to be foaming at the mouth. How ludicrous.

It’s always about what Mike Tyson said: everybody has a plan until they get punched. Well, the Saints punched us in the face on that first drive and instead of punching back, we ran (literally and figuratively).

We should be attacking from the first play of the game. If not, we’ll lose, no matter who’s at QB.

  6. Panhandle Buc Says:

Rob – I will be there getting loud regardless of how many transplant Eagles fans infiltrate the stadium! Hoping I don’t have to listen to chants walking out of the stadium other than Tampa…BAAAAAAY!!!

  7. Panhandle Buc Says:

Oh and I will be in 145 rocking none other than the Eagle killa himself! #20

  8. Rob Says:

    Panhandle Buc-
Awesome to hear! I wouldn’t dream of selling my tickets to a home playoff game unless I physically could not attend, even then, I’d rather give my tickets to another family member or friend that was a Buc fan, never the opposing team. Go Bucs!

  9. Tony Marks Says:

Nope the real question is the health of QB1 ad who will play on Monday

Its rare we all agree in these comments

All this who said they are going to punch out the other lights is high school not professional NFL. Teams win on execution not pre game talk.

  10. SB~LV Says:

The Eagles will certainly show up!

  11. ModHairKen Says:

No, DA did not have them ready to play. They took a vote. Jameis tallied the votes.

What a feces show in NO.

  12. Angry Since Kickoff Says:

I miss Brooks. For my money, and it cost thousands to buy those season tickets for years, he was the best OLB ever. Changed the game. LT was incredible with the Giants too, of course, but totally different ways of being used by scheme.

Did you see Baker play? He literally had his worst game of the season.

If you don’t have a QB, you don’t have a chance, and that’s the same thing on MNF. If bad Baker shows up again, for the 3rd week in the row, the Bucs will lose by 30.

If good Baker makes one of his rare appearances, then the Bucs will have a chance, perhaps a good chance, of getting the home playoff win.

I can’t really see a situation where Baker goes out and plays really well and the Bucs still lose. It certainly could happen, the Eagles are, on paper, the much more talented team. But if mediocre or bad Baker shows up and he has 45 yards passing at the half yet again, then it won’t be close.

Hopefully we get good Baker, and the Eagles fans form a huge line from Tampa to St Pete as they go to the top of the Skyway and dive off, making the world a better place.

  14. BakerFan Says:

It is one thing saying it and it is another thing doing it. On a 1-6 slide you are what you are. Bucs, who knows what they are. That is why the game is played. If they can’t be ready to play then get rid of all of them.

  15. Since76 Says:

The defense has played good most of the season in the most important stat. Points allowed. I think they show up Monday night ready to play. The wheels will come off if baker pulls his less than 50 yds at half crap. Defense can keep you in games with the Carolinas but the eagles are putting up points. Those three and outs in the first half the past two weeks(and most of the season) will get your coaches fired. It’s as simple as that.

  16. Bosch Says:

    Four scenarios for Monday night.
Good Bucs vs Bad Philly. Result: 27 – 24 Bucs. Bowles Retained
Good Bucs vs Good Philly. Result: 31 – 27 Philly. Bowles 50-50
Bad Bucs vs Bad Philly. Result: 24 – 10 Philly. Bowles Fired
Bad Bucs vs Good Philly. Result: 31 – 10 Philly. Bowles Fired

  17. Dave Pear Says:

DB55 should address the team before the game. Todd”The Sedative” Bowles could put a meth addict on a bender to sleep. Someone not named Diva White needs to fire up the troops.

  18. BillyBucco Says:

    Bosch that is crazy.
You have no idea what bad equals!!!
If Phillys bad is 3 pick sixes you are dead wrong.

  19. Bucs'n'Bucks Says:

The Bucs need to start out early and score. If Philly gets down, the memories of their last 6 games will take over. That our 12th man!

  20. 1#bucsfan Says:

This game should decide bowels future with us as HC. if we come out flat and play like the saints game then he’s got to go. Idc if he got us a 3rd division title. Last year we got bounced by the cowboys in the playoffs. That gane we looked unprepared n came out flat just like the last saints game. That’s what I’ll be looking for how we come out n play. If it’s with juice and good execution but loose a close one then ok let him stay and see if another year with canales gets us better but if we come out flat no juice undisciplined n looking unprepared then that’s on bowels for the 2nd WC playoff game in a row so he would need to go

For the most part the post on this site were pretty good & positive except for the regular negative Nancy’s we all know who those jokers r I don’t read there post anymore it ain’t worth the pointless pain those knuckleheads are obviously in

  22. BakerBucs Says:

Why does many say if he doesn’t win a playoff game he has to go didn’t this team gone way beyond there expectations this season kinda stupid to fire & start over when u already out did everyone’s pre determined outcomes

  23. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

I believe this Bucs defense shows up Monday night in a classic. LFG.
    Run it Back mammie jammers!

    ——

Yes but in order to save face from the egg on their face from being wrong in their projections they need to reset and claim another expectation as the important one. If the Bucs win Monday then it will be another reset

    Book it!

  25. orlbucfan Says:

Man, do I want a Bucs win so bad!! Joes, you dudes are stating to sound like broken (vinyl) records with the negative. I get that you all want to be factual, but this is a fan site, too. Ya Know?! Go Bucs! Drop DC on his head so he’ll call a good O game.
