Hall Of Fame GM Thinks Bucs Have Major Advantage Over Stinking Panthers

January 3rd, 2024

Breaks down Bucs-Panthers.

Looking at the Bucs-Stinking Panthers game on Sunday, Hall of Fame general manager Bill Polian seems to think this game is a major mismatch in the Bucs’ favor.

Specifically, Carolina’s offense facing the Bucs defense.

Speaking on “Late Hits” co-hosted by Lance Medow, heard exclusively on SiriusXM NFL Radio, Polian was really, really down on the Stinking Panthers’ offensive line, which he said “has played as poorly in pass protection as any line in the league and maybe any line in a long time.”

In particular, Polian said two things the Stinking Panthers’ offensive line terribly struggles with are blitzes and stunts. Given how Bucs coach Todd Bowles loves to blitz, Polian seems to think Carolina will have big problems.

“Bryce Young is just a sitting duck back there,” Polian said.

Polian added Carolina has no reliable receiver who can get separation short of D.J. Chark, who is often injured.

Carolina has “huge deficiencies in personnel,” Polian said. “Notably on offense.”

So who does Polian see winning on Sunday? You can read between the lines for yourself.

“This matchup for Tampa couldn’t be better,” Polian said.

It would be nice to have a pass rush…..and, for God’s sake….throw the ball early and often…..
TBBF will be in Charlotte so Bucs will win.

  2. CleanHouse Says:

This will be the perfect week for Bowles to outsmart everyone by withholding blitzes and stunts.

    (Sarcasm)

  3. Boss Says:

    LOL

Are there not 30 other teams who should be able to beat them?

If the bucs lose this one…….well, it mught be a good thing!

    time to flush!

  4. SufferingSince76 Says:

The last thing the Bucs need to do is be overconfident. They aren’t good enough.

  5. D Cone Says:

Wouldn’t doubt the Texans thought the same thing when Panthers were 0-6 and Falcons when they were 1-13.

  6. Bojim Says:

    They should but will they?

  7. Couch Fan Says:

In week 13 at home, we won 21-18. Anyone that thinks this is going to be an easy gimme game in Carolina simply has no clue. They Carolina will be the underdog with plenty to play for. The Bucs as we know all to good, just love to play down their level of competition. And we all know just how inspired the ReTodd led Bucs are in when they need a win. This has all the makings of yet another disaster. And if it is, I hope Its ReTodd’s last disaster piece here in Tampa.l

    ^^^^^^

Funny because it’s true. “They know our strength so we’re not going to play to our strength. We’ll play to our weakness and that will be our strength. Ha!” Totally the Bowles philosophy.

  9. SB~LV Says:

    Bwahahahahaa… I couldn’t get past the headline
    Bwahahahahaa

  10. Tony marks Says:

At 2 and 14 one would be hard pressed to find any NFL fan over 10 that didn’t take a Buc’s advantage as a foregone conclusion.

  11. BucU Says:

We have a defensive head coach who has the worst pass defense in the league.
We have an offensive coach who insists on running the ball up the gut for 1.8 yards constantly.
    What could go wrong?

  12. infomeplease Says:

Cleanhouse, you forgot about running the ball on first and second down up the middle too. In TBs infinite wisdom he’ll outsmart Carolina, just like last week against the Saints. Everyone knows we have ME13 and CG14, so we’ll fool them by running and not using our two best offensive weapons!

  13. DungyDance Says:

So Tepper gets fined $300k for the drink-throwing incident,. Point of reference – fans have been banned for life from stadiums for doing the same thing toward players. And throwing a drink at someone is technically battery. The double standard is unsurprising. But it should leave some injustice hanging about that can be used as extra motivation come Sunday.

  14. infomeplease Says:

Continued… Until we’re so far behind that we have to use ME13, and CG14!

  15. Eckwood Says:

Maybe Licht can pay the Saints and allow Dennis Allen to help Bowles with his coaching deficiencies .

  16. Joe Says:

And throwing a drink at someone is technically battery.

    LOL!

  17. Lt. Dan Says:

So are we placing our trust in Bowles, the defensive genius? I just barfed.

  18. Lt. Dan Says:

@ TBBF – I’ll be there as well. Steve Spurrier creamsicle #11. Say s’up if you see me.

  19. Upstate NY BUC Says:

I don’t care what we need to do just win Baby!!! Eagle fans are flipping up here. They don’t want to play us… You should hear some of these Eagle fans!!! nuts… anyhow Mike gets 2 tuddys Sunday for sure!! Go Bucs…

  20. Alanbucsfan Says:

Easy to make the case that Bowles and Mayfield’s futures with Bucs are on the line for this game

I don’t know the back story but wouldn’t be surprised to see a lawsuit. So the issue probably isn’t over at the fine.

  22. Cobraboy Says:

Yeah, well, the Bucs have an advantage is laying stinky rotten eggs in big games this season.

  23. DungyDance Says:

Tony – I don’t either but find the whole thing fairly amusing. Tepper’s statement implies there was something going on in the stands and not just the INT that he got mad about. Here is the excerpt: “I should have let NFL stadium security handle any issues that arose. I respect the NFL’s code of conduct and accept the League’s discipline for my behavior.”

  24. bucsfaninOregon Says:

Of course a 8-win team should be favored over a 2-win team. But, these are the Bucs with our coaching staff. If we are leading at half time we have a chance. If not kiss off the whole thing.

  25. Bosch Says:

Prediction: Bucs will defeat the Kitties by 3 score, lose to Cowboys/ Eagles by 4 scores and will catastrophically allow the Bowel Movement to continue floating.

  26. Lord Cornelius Says:

    We’re only 5.5 point favorites :\

I want to see freaking domination

  27. StormyInFl Says:

On paper, this game should be a blowout, however he’s not figuring in the ‘Todd Bowles’ factor:

    1. He’ll play his favorite players, even though they suck (White, Devin and Tryon, Joe)

    2. He’ll demand that Canales ‘establish the run’, even though his best weapons are receivers and his team isn’t designed to run.

    3. His CBs will play 10 yards off, making Bryce Young look like an NFL QB rather than the miserable bust he is.

    4. If Dean and Davis start, they won’t finish. At least one of these two overpaid china dolls will stub a toe.

Lets’s also figure in that there’s absolutely no reason for Carolina to tank, since they stupidly traded it away for Bust Young. Also, they have an interim coach trying to prove to Tepper he’s the guy. He won’t (Tepper’s an idiot who will pursue another ‘name’), but it won’t stop him from trying.

  28. Since76 Says:

Stormy I agree. Bowles must have favorites in the locker room. Tryon was not hustling in the game. More like loafing. Should be benched at least a game for non effort. But no. No effort no problem.

  29. HC Grover Says:

To lose this game would take a BOAT Blunder of ALL TIME

  30. Cobraboy Says:

The greatest threats to a loss in Charlotte, beyond Bowles coaching, are Mayfield’s ribs.

If this team had beaten the Aint’s, a week of rest would serve him well.

A few more rib shots could damage already weak playoff prospects.

  31. Bosch Says:

Stormy, you nailed it. Take away the Bowels factor and the line
    Become 2 scores.

  32. Buc1987 Says:

    WTH is a boat blunder?

  33. m milligan Says:

    Liked

They always find a way to play down to competition

And yes, last time we faced them, another sht show at home, probably should have lost

  34. Proudbucsfan Says:

I know that it would definitely not surprise me if the Bucs lost. I know we will win because that will bring Bowles back and we will have to go through an 8-9, 9-8 record or worse again next season 🤷🏻‍♂️ it’s a Bucs life

  35. Buckeyebuckchuck Says:

The interior OLine is a mess. Played 6-7 different people at left
guard and at right guard. Looks like two UDFA’s will start. Ekwonu
has been a screen door at LT. There’s a very good reason Bryce Young has looked like dog crap. The defense is sound, Derrick Brown having a monster season. I doubt injury prone Jaycee Horn does much. Last time they played Bucs were missing Shaq, Dean and (i think) White. Add in all the Tepper tribe is playing for is pride…Bucs blowout. How much pride can you have playing for a drink tossing A-hole?

  36. BAKERSBucs says Says:

Bakers future is on the line he is 8&8 not 4&12 u r not getting rid of u r 1st year qb with total entertainment value is 90% that’s what draws the fans & the cash his entertainment value is easily 1 of the better in the NFL if baker stays in Tampa its cause he wants to McVey wud take him in a ny minute if Stafford retires plus others that will need him not want but need his draw & services I wud not b surprised it falcons go after him

  37. BAKERSBucs says Says:

Why is it repetition on this site r its so negitive can’t u see we were albatross from spring training we r way ahead of schedule from the start of the season licht will know exactly what he will need to do to bring in the rest of the puzzle to an even better season record 2024 so many of u repeat its the bucs story dismal disaster like usual them days r over this is the new age bucs

  38. BillyBucco Says:

It’s been a good season when looking at projections but I was hoping we would identify a clear path forward and we really haven’t. If we can get the beefiest O Line in football we can make some noise in the playoffs but beyond that Baker is good for 8-12 wins and maybe 2 playoff wins although he hasn’t proven that.
Now, depending on losing to a 2 win team, we get Bowles and Baker back and another repeat of this year.
At least with Trask we know it’s him or one of the possible 6 QBs who could work out.
I bet we surround Baker with weapons instead of O Line.
Bowles gets more defensive talent that is lost all year.
    Rinse and repeat.

  39. teacherman777 Says:

Thank God the Panthers have the dumbest owner in the league.

He traded DJ Moore and multiple first round picks for a 5-10 QB!

The Panthers are going to suck for a long time.

And Atlanta hired a billionaire heir to be their coach. No chance!

New Orleans has a great defensive coach.

  40. h Says:

Same “hall of game gm” who said 2 TIME MVP QUARTERBACK only has a future in the nfl at Wide WR. Game has passed Bill bye joe.
