Antoine Winfield, Lavonte David Got Snubbed For Pro Bowl

January 4th, 2024
Pro Bowl 2024

Shut it down.

“This Joe”  is done with the Pro Bowl. The selection process is worse than a Carrot Top routine in Las Vegas.

Yes, Mike Evans made the Pro Bowl. That’s great for him. Antoine Winfield was not named to the Pro Bowl, which is asinine. Neither was Lavonte David. What’s new? David has been shafted for that honor year after year.

Geese fly south for the winter and David gets stiff-armed from the Pro Bowl. It’s an annual thing.

Yesterday afternoon, Joe was fully outraged about the Pro Bowl and it reached a point that Joe concluded the Pro Bowl needs to be abolished.

“This Joe” used to be a defender of the Pro Bowl. People always asked Joe why it’s played. Because of the money, that’s why it’s played. Plus, it used to be a nice treat for players. They got a free trip to Hawaii out of it. Or a trip to Las Vegas. (Who wants to go to Disney in Orlando in the middle of winter?)

So Evans is having a historic year. He had his 10th straight 1,000-yard receiving season. He leads the league in touchdowns.

Yet yesterday afternoon when WFLA-TV Channel 8 sports anchor Dan Lucas tweeted that Evans was not listed in the top-10 in fan voting, Joe hit the ceiling.

That was it for Joe! The fact “fans” don’t think Evans is a top-10 receiver, well, Joe thinks whoever didn’t vote for Evans either should be institutionalized or lobotomized.

Anyone who calls himself/herself an NFL fan and doesn’t think Evans is a top-10 receiver really shouldn’t be allowed to breed much less walk the streets unsupervised. That’s how bad this is.

Joe blames fantasy football. What other excuse could someone offer for such a knucklehead idea than to claim Evans is not a great player. (As Joe often says, Joe’s idea of “fantasy” has absolutely nothing to do with football.)

A couple of years ago, the Pro Bowl went from something fun to demeaning to fans. It became touch football, which Joe supposes got NFL warden Roger Goodell to breathe heavily.

Then last year it was ruined beyond repair as it turned into a skills competition/flag football game.

It looked more like something the Manning Bros. would produce with their Omaha Productions outfit after someone dropped shrooms.

This Pro Bowl has become a blight upon society. Even ex-players with Super Bowl rings are triggered.

Boycott the Pro Bowl this year.

  2. Bucsfan951 Says:

And Roger wonders why nobody watches that stupid game. Last year’s numbers were the lowest since 2006!

3 things 951 hates and that Roger Goodell, the pro bowl, and fantasy football!

  3. SB Says:

    AW31 gets SNUBBED?!?!?!?
YUP I will never watch the “Pro” bowl again.

    Congrats Reigning Rodger!

  4. Proudbucsfan Says:

It happened some years ago I think it was Lavonte David’s 3rd year he was voted all pro and didn’t make the pro bowl. I think they should take fan votes out of it and do the voting like the hall of fame every year it would be right.

  5. FortMyersDave Says:

I am with Proudbucsfan, the public voting aspect with fans from the usual places (NYC, Chicago, TX, big market areas in general) simply vote for their guys and skew the results. Make it where the fan’s popular vote gets added to the roster with the players who were voted in by their peers and do not let the fan faves be starters unless they were the consensus choice of the players as well. This will not happen as the NFL wants the big media markets to tune in for the ratings and they need the big names from the big market teams represented to do this so guys like Winfield get boned!

  6. ModHairKen Says:

    The Pro Bowl is stupid.

There is no way that the majority of regular fans can have enough time to study the players enough to make an informed vote. Ditto for most sports media people.

Any agent who ties bonuses to whether a player makes the Pro Bowl is an idiot.

Any player who would play in that game —whether tackle or tag or even just skills drills is insane. See Robert Edwards.

  7. BUCS SQUAT Says:

Joe I really agree with you but you shouldn’t be so namby bamby And get off the fence and tell us what you really think

  8. Joe Says:

    🙂

  9. David Says:

Antoine Winfield is the best safety in NFL.

  10. Bucfan1988 Says:

Yeah AW31’s stats for this year’s pro bowl snub remind me a lot about Lavonte Davis’s snub in 2013 when he made All-Pro….

Check out these numbers in 2013 for LD54:
    – 145 total tackles
    – 7 Sacks
    – 5 interceptions
    – 2 FF
    – 1 FR

What a machine he was that year and played on a crappy defense too….

  11. Bucfan1988 Says:

David, I may agree with you….
    Definitely in the top 2

Like I said, Antoine Winfield better make All-Pro…

  12. westernbuc Says:

Mike is one of the best fantasy receivers out there and they still sleep on him.

  13. SB Says:

    Baker got in.

Antwon Winfield snub is the most egregious I have ever seen.
Numbers Do Not Lie. This is sick 🤢
    Baker: 0 INT, 0 FF, 0 FR, 0 sacks
    Winfield: 3 INT, 5 FF, 4 FR, 5 sacks

  14. SB Says:

    @bucsfan1988……….I agree man.

  15. Rod Munch Says:

Anything that involves fan voting is a complete and total joke that should not be taken seriously.

  16. adam from ny Says:

whoa…the winfield snubbing is debatably the biggest snubbing of all time…we’ve been discussing him as DPOY…the pro bowl was a no brainer – so that’s really wild…

camarda and mclaughlin – snubbed imho

lavonte is having a terrific season

  17. Drunkinybor Says:

Winfield Jr. has 117 tackles, five sacks, five forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, and three interceptions with two touchdowns.

Ganja Baker has 77 tackles and no sacks, interceptions, forced fumbles, or fumble recoveries

This is just a sick injustice. Strangest thing I’ve seen in awhile. This is embarrassing for the league. I’ve seen this snub of Winfield on major news sites that don’t even cover football regularly. Numbers don’t lie and you don’t have to be a football junkie to see something is wrong here.

    =========

No… this is the biggest snub ever…

    2013 Luke Kuechly
    156 TKLS, 2 SACKS, 10 TFL, 4 INTs, 7 PDs, 2 QB Hits, 0 FF, 0 SAFETY

    vs

    2013 Lavonte David
    145 TKLS, 7 SACKS, 21 TFL, 5 INTs, 10 PDs, 13 QB Hits, 2 FF, 1 SAFETY

    Luke – NFL Defensive MVP
    David – Doesn’t even make the Pro-Bowl

As I said above, anything involving fan voting is completely worthless and should not be taken seriously.

  20. Rod Munch Says:

Drunkinybor – well, as I showed up above, in 2013, David had vastly superior numbers to Kuechly who was literally the NFL Defensive MVP – and David didn’t make the Pro-Bowl, while also being 1st team ALL-PRO, which is a legit award given out to top players.

The Pro-Bowl is just a stupid popularity contest voted on by idiot fans. If they wanted to make this legit, they’d kill fan voting completely – but they’re not going to do that because it’s just another way to get peoples info so they can spam them.

When I was a kid, the Pro Bowl was a big deal. But then they introduced fan voting, and it become a total joke, then they destroyed the actual Pro Bowl game, then they just exploded the rosters so half the NFL eventually makes the team when half the roster bows out of the game, which makes it a worthless award anyways.

  21. Defense Rules Says:

ModHairKen … ‘The Pro Bowl is stupid. There is no way that the majority of regular fans can have enough time to study the players enough to make an informed vote.’

Rod Munch … ‘The Pro-Bowl is just a stupid popularity contest voted on by idiot fans.’

Popularity contest? Kinda reminds ya of the way we elect politicians to be our representatives today, doesn’t it?

  22. adam from ny Says:

    yeah i retract my statement…

    as rod said ^^^^^^^^^^

the lavonte 2013 snubbing takes the cake…
    (but winfield ain’t far behind)

  23. garro Says:

    I’m with you Joe!

The problem is, that the media folks, Roger, and many of the Big city owners don’t give a ratsass that they are losing all credibility from the true football fan!

Unless it starts eating in to the pocket books of all these folks nothing will change.
They have fooled so many of the casual fans and 12 year olds in their (insert player) jerseys that it is ridiculous.

    Go Bucs!

    ——

Pretty much this. The snub is ridiculous but not having to play that game is a plus. WInfield will have enough accolades and titles behind his name before his carreer is over so it will make this snub less meaningful.

  25. Lakeland Steve Says:

It’s like a lot of things in society lately. What’s wrong becomes right and what’s right is wrong. There is no explanation for it at all. Hell, Joe we all know it’s headed to this one day but a day is coming and hopefully I’ll be dead when Professional football will be nothing but a glorified flag football game. In the name of player safety of course.

  26. realistic-optimistic Says:

At least in 2013 when David was snubbed, the other guy (Kuechly) had good numbers. Not as good as David, but good nonetheless. Winfield getting snubbed for Budda Baker is completely ridiculous. Baker doesn’t even have the flash stats that might fool casual fans. He has scrub-level stats. And he plays on a bad team in a smaller market. It makes no sense at all.

  27. Conte Piscatelli Says:

Yes the pro bowl is stupid anyway, but the real issue is that hall of fame voters may also be swayed by the comparison of pro bowls. It comes with playing in football Siberia. The Bucs have been irrelevant for decades at a time. It’s a small market and really as a whole the nfc south is an after thought to the big markets and media. Outside of Brady and Gronk (both made names outside of Tampa) name one Tampa sports figure that has been part of a national media add campaign? Ever? Sorry, but Tampa sports will always be neglected by the rest of the country.

  28. Mark hardt Says:

I am so disinterested i don.t even know where it is. The last location i recall was Orlando only because i stumbled on a promotion desk for it with my son Colin at a Thanksgiving Basketball Tourney at the wide world of sports complex in 2018 or 19. My alma mater Xavier Cincinnati was playing against Northern Iowa I think.

  29. BucaneroJim Says:

Pro Bowl = NFL version of soft porn.

  30. D-Rome Says:

Anyone who calls himself/herself an NFL fan and doesn’t think Evans is a top-10 receiver really shouldn’t be allowed to breed much less walk the streets unsupervised. That’s how bad this is.

I completely agree. It’s stunning, but I believe it’s mostly because fringe fans don’t associate a single franchise QB that was with Evans the bulk of his career (i.e. Montana/Rice).

  31. DungyDance Says:

Pro Bowl is a beauty pageant. Just like college football.

  32. Deadwood South Dakota Says:

Nobody watches nobody cares. We knw what we have and so does the rest of the nfl players. Maybe Joe u could do a missing person report on devon white and our secondary and see if they could be found by sunday.

  33. Miller5252 Says:

Might as well add Wirfs to the list as well. Goes from right to left and was the last left tackle to give up a sack in like week 10 after he got hurt. Instead of packing it in that day because of the injury, he went out and gave up a sack. Bucs get no love in this department and it really could hurt David for HOF. Ira always talks pro bowls, all pro and the other items that make it easier to get someone in the HOF. Because of this it could really hamper David if he retires this year. Sad that a guy like David, who still plays head and shoulders above guys 5-10 years younger can’t get any love. Tampa really needs more sport writers than just this website. The Joes and Ira do everything they can but really could use more help to get more eyes on the Bucs! Ira and the Joes….. don’t give up guys!! Keep writing the great stories and shouting from the mountain tops because I couldn’t imagine how much worse it would be for the guys without you all!! As fans who 100% agree with you, you’re the best chance these guys have to get some type of recognition!!! So THANK YOU GUYS!!! Keep up the great thankless job!!

  34. 1#bucsfan Says:

AGREED JOE. 13 is a top 5 receiver I’d even say top 3. Fans will see a WR have a few good borderline great seasons and call them the best but the real proof is who can sustain it. 13 has done it for 10 season consistent is the winner and that’s what 13 is.

  35. Pewter power Says:

Hard to feel snubbed from a useless award that isn’t based on actual stats but names and the team you play for. The only disgusting part of all this is they use this useless award as part of the hall of fame criteria

  36. Bojim Says:

Haven’t watched in a while anyway.

  37. Pewter power Says:

All Budda Baker needed was to stay healthy and record 77 tackles to be in over Winfield because of his name. Make it a Corolla times and you’ll be a regular there even past your prime

  38. Bosch Says:

Agree with Miller. Wirfs was a major snubbing

Pro Bowl has lost all credibility. For that matter so has Goodall (well actually he lost it years ago with his failure ban Sean Payton and Greg Williams from the NFL).

  39. Bosch Says:

    Failure to permanently ban.

  40. mark2001 Says:

Pro Bowl is a joke. All Pro is a completely different matter.

  41. LOL Says:

    CLOWN SHOW.

The Pro-Bowl is an absolute joke and has been.

Why even keep track of appearances anyway. it’s a popularity contest. Like a fashion show almost.

I cant stand broadcasters, HoF voters & talking heads talking up Pro-Bowls like it actually has some weight to it.

    Trash that crap

  42. David H. Says:

    And both of our kickers!

  43. Bojim Says:

Alternate? Give the NFL a snub AW. In fact, all our alternates should do that.

  44. gotbbucs Says:

Fan voting should account for about 1% of the count. Winfield didn’t make the Pro Bowl but he will be an almost unanimous All Pro selection.

Pro Bowl is a joke. Has been for as long as I can remember.

  45. toad bowels Says:

    Ko Kieft was snubbed again!

  46. Mike Johnson Says:

Winfield and Wirfs were named as 1st alternates. They will make the Pro Bowl. Always somebody hurt. Vita was named as an alternate also on down the line.

  47. Ultra ClodHopper Says:

    The Pro Bowl:

    It’s not fun to speculate
    It’s not fun to vote
It’s not fun to read the results
It’s not fun to watch it.
The game itself symbolizes the end of the season.

    It’s not fun.

  48. EC Buc Says:

NFL needs to rethink this money grab. Pick top players statistically from each position and conference or something, select a prowl bowl squad from that list. I don’t know, point is, it’s lame, more than ever. Don’t even watch it anymore.

  49. EC Buc Says:

NFL needs to rethink this money grab. Pick top 5 players statistically from each position and conference or something, select a prowl bowl squad from that list. I don’t know, point is, it’s lame, more than ever. Don’t even watch it anymore.

  50. Jeremy Goins Says:

I have never watched a pro bowl. Ever
