Advantage? Todd Bowles Doesn’t Want To Hear It.

January 4th, 2024

Focused.

The Stinking Panthers are the worst team in the league. There is a reason for that.

Tuesday night, Joe heard Hall of Fame general manager Bill Polian talk about the talent deficiency on the Stinking Panthers’ roster. And he said maybe the worst matchup Carolina’s offense could face is a Todd Bowles’ coached defense.

That’s the last thing Bowles wants to hear. Speaking yesterday, he’s trying to get his Bucs to think they are facing the 1984 49ers.

“We don’t take anybody lightly,” Bowles said when asked about preparation for Sunday’s do-or-die game. “We were underdogs most of the year – we can’t afford to [overlook teams].

“Division games, especially, regardless of who we’re playing. It was a tough game that went down to the end the last time we played them – we expect it to be a tough one this time.”

Well, Bucs fans got a big curveball thrown at them yesterday when Bowles and quarterback Baker Mayfield revealed that Mayfield’s status is up in the air for Sunday. He hurt his ribs against the slimy Saints and didn’t practice yesterday, though it was a walk-through.

Yeah, the Stinking Panthers stink. But what happens if the Bucs have to turn to Kyle Trask if Mayfield can’t answer the bell? Trask has never started a game and this is the most important game of the season for the Bucs.

Then, when you throw in this history, there is reason for concern. Worst team in the league or not.

I’ve ribbed Kyle for the last few weeks because I was sick of the Trask Cult ( and will continue to say he sucks as pay back for the constant gabage they have spewed all season – AND right now because the stats and coaching staff support it ) but I see no reason why Trask can’t come in and take over against such a bad team..

This game coud and shoudl be won even on defense alone. I didn’t buy the mumbo jumbo Bowles was pushing at the end of the game a few weeks ago ( think it was the Jags). Kyle sould have got some time there as well.

However not a good situation for Kyle. If he plays well – its agains the Panthers so means little. He stinks it up or throws multiple picks he pretty much burns his career down to the gorund because of whats at stake.

Little upside for him in this game but potentially a career ending downside . On top of all that Bowles clearly does not trust him so if Kyle starts this will likely NOT be the game we open back up the passing offense.

  2. I remember 21 Says:

He is saying the things a coach has to say in this situation, but the sad part is it’s actually true. We have to seriously question whether we can beat the worst team in the league. That’s the state of things under bowles.

  3. Defense Rules Says:

Glad that Coach has told them not to take the Panthers lightly, but that shouldn’t even need to be said. The Bucs aren’t playing good enough to take ANY team lightly.

And BTW, the Panthers might ‘stink’ but they beat the Texans & the Falcons, 2 teams that we lost to. And we only beat them by 3 points last time. There’s a LOT on the line in this game.

  4. HC Grover Says:

You mean like the Stainks coach?

  5. Allbuccedup Says:

Bucs could get a wild with loss and packers loss

  6. BucU Says:

“”We were underdogs most of the year – we can’t afford to [overlook teams].””

Maybe Bowles should of employed that strategy BEFORE the Saints game eh?
I swear this guy is always a dollar short and a day late.

  7. BucU Says:

I wouldn’t bet a wooden nickel that the Bucs will win this game.

  8. Allbuccedup Says:

Good news win or lose Bowles is back to finish the job!

  9. Mark hardt Says:

He should have said that last week before they showed up in a “daze” against the saints. Go no huddle on the first series to proactively prevent an overconfident daze.

  10. DBS Says:

Trask is the Backup. From all his fans we have heard he is the next greatest to come. So beating a garbage team should be no problem. They don’t even have tape to study. So now If it is his game back him and let’s see what he can do.

  11. heyjude Says:

I am worried. However, if Trask starts he could be a superstar. You just never know. Hoping that Baker gets better and there is a fine applied for the intentional hit on him from the Saints.

  12. Jeremy Goins Says:

Starting Trask seems like the obvious thing to do. As we have seen all year if it seems like a no brainer decision the coaching staff will do the opposite. When Bowles said the coaches need to come up with better plans isn’t he talking about himself? He is the DC and they sucked balls last week. Our entire team got bullied, how can that not piss them off? Hopefully that sparks something in them and they start a run. Go BUCS!!!!!!

  13. Beeej Says:

Trask starts and it’s 8 in the box all day long until he can make them pay for it, will hope for the best

  14. Since76 Says:

Mayfield will start in my opinion. He doesn’t want another QB coming in. Trask and Wolford looked good in preseason so I think they would be fine. I don’t even think Mayfield playing hurt could play worse than he did last week.

  15. Bojim Says:

I would hope they are giving Trask extra reps.

  16. Pewter power Says:

    “We don’t take anybody lightly,”

I think that’s true Bowles but I also think the motivation speech for the saints game was yours boring arse press conferences. Like did you tape their eyes open and put them on auto play? All I know for sure without our a doubt is advantage goes to Carolina coaching staff because you can’t even out coach an interim

  17. Jmarkbuc Says:

Really not interested in anything nodding Todd has to say…

    Clearly, his players aren’t either.

  18. Bosch Says:

Bowles won’t take the Panthers lightly. He finally said something that made sense. Well I guess even a blind squirrel finds aunt sometimes.

  19. Upstate NY BUC Says:

Mayfield will not miss this game if his life depended on it, are you guys crazy!!!! He hates Carolina for dumping him plus he gets us into the playoffs on his own , big payday… I have sources, unless he cant breathe , he’s playing!!!!!!

  20. Bucs'n'Bucks Says:

Better hope Mayfield starts. If not, this coaching staff will go ultra conservative from the start as if we have a 30 point lead. Run, run, run, punt. Run, run ,run, punt.

  21. Bucfan1988 Says:

I feel like Mayfield’s personal hatred of Carolina for how they treated him is fueling him to wanna play regardless of how he is physically.

This could lead Mayfield into tons of additional mistakes in the game giving Carolina a short field to operate.
One hit to the torso/ribs and Mayfield is done.

I’m sure Brian Burns is looking for a window or even a crack to make that happen.

    START TRASK!!!

  22. BAKERSBucs says Says:

  23. BAKERSBucs says Says:

Bucsfan1988 this 2023 get with the times pal

  24. Let ‘em bake Says:

To be fair, baker asked for his release, and the gm granted it. This was after baker was relegated to qb3, after darnold and walker . As time has revealed more about David Tepper , and his style as an active owner ( to put it mildly) it will be interesting to learn some day the decision to essentially insure baker wouldn’t see another snap with the panthers. I remember seeing one source that Tepper wasn’t thrilled with bakers vocal sharing of his faith. Never saw that reported again, so who knows . Time has shown that small window the rams and mcvay gave baker opened the door to this years great statistical year.

  25. Bill Says:

Baker chokes because he thinks he can play hurt bucs lose
