Has teammates’ back.
Tristan Wirfs is one of the most docile dudes you will see in an NFL locker room. It’s like he doesn’t have a bad bone in his body.
Wirfs is almost soft-spoken. Not quite. His voice can be heard. And yes, he is one of the nicest guys in the NFL.
So when Wirfs’ voice gets firm, everyone takes notice. And yesterday, Wirfs had his team’s back, specifically the back of Baker Mayfield.
Wirfs was giving his teammates credit when the team easily could have thrown in the towel last month. They didn’t.
“There were a lot of questions in the air about us,” Wirfs said. “Not a lot of people picked us to win ballgames, but that’s alright.
“We went through a rough patch and stuff is starting to click for us now. Just the resiliency of this group. We could have packed it in. In all honesty, we could have been like ‘OK.’”
But the Bucs didn’t. And more importantly, neither did their moxie quarterback Mayfield. Wirfs said he struggled not to react when reading on Twitter how so many folks were ready to shovel dirt in Mayfield’s face. His quarterback.
“Everything I seemed to see on Twitter was like, ‘Oh, the Bucs are going to get a quarterback in the draft or something,’” Wirfs said. “I’m like, ‘Dude, I’m playing with ‘Bake’ (Baker Mayfield) and he’s a dawg – just give us some time to get stuff rolling, to feel confident.”
While Bucs fans and observers aren’t hip with some of the players currently on the roster, Wirfs is of the opposite mind. And he’s ready roll with his teammates and march into the playoffs.
“I love everybody in this locker room,” Wirfs said. “I feel confident in everyone in this locker room. I know we’re a very tight-knit group – us as an O-line, us as a team. Just go fight for your brother on Sunday.”
Now if the Bucs can just carry the momentum they built in Green Bay into Sunday’s game with the suddenly vulnerable Jags, maybe the Bucs might be onto something.

Gotta love Wirfs. What a team player. So lucky that things worked out the way they did with those other teams before us who needed a tackle not taking him.

I said it last summer and I will say it again, KEEP BAKER MAYFIELD!!! Where will the Bucs get a better QB than Mayfield?? I said to sign Mayfield las summer and I think it has worked out very well. You may draft a QB and he may or may not be any good. There aren’t many Andrew Luck or Payton Manning in the drafts. Mayfield is only 28 years and still has many years left. Resign him PLEASE!!!

Man, I hope the Bucs don’t bring that all lovey dovey attitude to the game against those jags and that seldom used qb of theirs. If they do, we’re gonna get smoked.

Remember, the Bucs are fully capable of making a seldom used quarterback look like the second coming of Joe Montana and Tom Brady all rolled up into one.

Licht has produced a team with some extremely nice guys…
Wirfs, Winfield, Evans, Godwin, Hainsey, Otton, R. White, Hall, Kancey, Zion
And a couple that were here before him LVD, Gholston
There are likely many more but I don’t see enough of them to know.

Love how Baker has shut up so many talking heads. He just let everyone chatter…and went about his business of making this team improve week after week. Btw as an ex athlete…we don’t listen to the noise anyway. If they knew what they were talking about they would have been players at some point.

Wirfs is a team captain that all team captains should aspire to. A leader that leads on and off the field. With actions and words. Easy to talk the talk.

Wirfs is an All-Pro, has an SB ring, and is a team captain. He’s also young, believes in his teammates, and Canales/Bowles. Dungy also stressed character with his players, and he cut a few thugs. The dimwits on here need to check out the Bucs home site. ME13 was the first player Licht drafted when he came here in 2014. LVD was already here. Go Bucs!!
