“He’s Back To His Old Self”

December 13th, 2023

Honest update?

Iconic Bucs linebacker Lavonte David had a relatively quiet day Sunday in Atlanta.

Joe’s just happy David made it through the game.

Sure, there’s been hype around backup linebacker K.J. Britt’s good performance, as there was a week earlier when J.J. Russell was in for Britt while starting inside linebacker Devin White sat out with a bad foot. SirVoca Dennis has looked like a promising rookie, too.

However, there is no replacement for a healthy Lavonte David. And the key there is “health.”

Per Todd Bowles on the Buccaneers Radio Network, Bowles didn’t miss a beat against the Falcons after missing two games with a groin injury.

“Playing fast. He did a great job in coverage, does a great job on the run game. He’s shooting gaps. He’s back to his old self,” Bowles said of David. “Happy to see him out there; the guys rally right behind him.”

Joe sure hopes Bowles isn’t fudging the truth.

Back in the 2021 season, David came back after a foot injury for the postseason and later admitted he was “about 60 percent” healthy but gutted it out. If fact, that injury affected David well into the spring.

It doesn’t appear that David’s groin is a lingering problem, though Joe suspects Bucs fans will find out Sunday in a hurry.

I hope we have him next year

We will. Licht will reward LVD and ME13. Both better be voted into Canton!!! Joe, did you see my question about that postgame video in the previous column?

  3. Tap-Out Says:

It time for L54D to pass the torch ….but would love to see him stick around for another year or two on a very team friendly contract as a (BACKUP & LEADER, COACH on the field type player)!

  4. Beeej Says:

We’re paying him something like 8 million for this one year, while DW is making. 11. DW won’t BE here next year and somebody will be taking his slot with a rookie contract, so we have plenty to pay LVD

  5. Stanglassman Says:

White is getting 11.7m. 700k is 10x what most of us make in a year and it’s just a rounding error when talking about what these guys make. DWhite won’t get 11.7 on the open market this spring. It will be interesting to see what happens.

  6. Beeej Says:

The cap will be something like 240 million next year, I’m sure the Glazers wouldn’t mind spending 500 million to get the team they want, but the system won’t let you do that, so you have to watch every dime

  7. Conner50 Says:

If he don’t retire he’s coming back on another one year deal. Great linebacker all around maybe even HOF material

  8. Austin Says:

I’m excited to see him and Dennis flying around playing cerebral football next year

    Alright, who voted “confident “?
