Chris Godwin Makes The Record Book

December 11th, 2023

Made Bucs history Sunday.

Can’t blame this on Mariah Godwin.

How good has Bucs receiver Chris Godwin been? The former Pro Bowler reached a couple of milestones yesterday, fittingly against a team he usually balls out against.

With Godwin’s 53 yards receiving versus Atlanta, he is basically one catch from racking up 1,000 yards in his career against the Dixie Chicks. Godwin now has 998 yards receiving against Atlanta.

Playing in his 100th NFL game yesterday, all with the Bucs, Godwin’s five catches pushed him past 500 career catches. He and Mike Evans are the only receivers in franchise history with 500 or more catches.

Per the Bucs’ media relations staff, only 30 players in NFL history had 500 or more catches in their first 100 games.

Joe has no issue with Godwin wanting the ball more. After all, who do you want to be targeted, a pro’s pro like Godwin or Deven Thompkins?

Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Godwin. Well done. I’m happy for the Godwin’s but sad for my Bucs. That useless win yesterday puts a franchise QB out of reach in next years spring selection show.

  2. Tampabaybucfan Says:

A franchise QB is never out of reach….you simply have to come up with the draft picks.

Chris Godwin is a great 3rd round pick….perhaps Licht’s best overall pick.

Its now looking like a possibility the Bucs could get Philly as a playoff game rather than Dallas. At this point id rather play them. and if they win, a game vs Detroit after already losing to them, is not as scary. Neither is a game at San Fran. if you look back at the Bucs losses this year, they are close losses that could go either way. Baker is NOT a/the problem. He may not be the answer though. He salvaged his career, but Bucs need a better QB next year. Maybe the Bears will be interested in a trade!!(as they own Carolina’s #1 pick)

  4. Defense Rules Says:

Nick Houllis … ‘Maybe the Bears will be interested in a trade!!(as they own Carolina’s #1 pick)’.

Can’t trade what you don’t own Nick; Mayfield’s a free agent after this season ends. And in ‘The Year of the QB’ draft, you know Chicago’s gonna grab a QB with their 1st pick. Based on their draft history, they’ll grab the wrong QB though.

Gotta do a better job of distributing the ball around. With BA running the offense Godwin and ME13 got 1k a piece but with Bowles run it into a brick wall offense It’s bin terrible. Last year he handcuffed leftwhich and this year he’s handcuffed canales you can’t tell me that it’s the OCs fault for our terrible offense. Before Bowles took over and before TB12 came to Tampa the Bucs had a high flying offense with turnover machine Winston. Even under dirk koetter we had a way way better offense BA came in and our offense got better then TB12 came in and again our offense got better. Bowles gets handed the keys to a Ferrari and turns the O into a Buick. Even after the W Bowles needs to go.

  6. Fire the HC Says:

Godwin had chances yesterday and proved he is a #2 WR
There was a lazy route again (he slowed down in the middle and sped up when the ball was in the air, run the whole route and it would of been an easy catch)
He also let one go right through his hands.

But I bet Kyle Trask would of caught those, I mean damn you Baker…..

  7. Mike C Says:

Lt Dan, being sad your team won and took the lead in the Division is not a good look for a “fan” how didbit work out last time we “Drafted our franchise QB”…….? Ohhh yeah he was the biggest int machine the world has ever seen!

  8. Lt. Dan Says:

Good point Mike. Right now though I’m really only interested in “addition by subtraction.” I don’t want another mediocre year with just enough wins so we can be “one and done” in the playoffs and keep Bowles and his staff in place because the Bucs made the playoffs again. Draft at about the 20th position again and have another mediocre 2024. No thanks.

  9. orlbucfan Says:

Man, get off the fire Bowles rant. It’s old. Why do you think Canales is here? And leave Ms. Godwin alone, you yahoos. I just want the Bucs to win the last 4 games so I can laugh at all the pissing and moaning on here.

  10. Jeff Says:

Chris looks slow and plodding on the field. Maybe his wife will suit up this week in his place. She seems to have some passion for the game.

  11. Gipper Says:

Lt. Dan and his group were all in the band in high school. They know nothing about what it takes organize a professional football team. Doubt they know much about organizing anything. Mayfield was an instant success in Cleveland after joining a team that was 1-31 when he got there in 2018. Baker would still be with the Browns but he played hurt all of 2021 with a serious shoulder injury. The thanks he got for that was to be sold down the river for Demassage Watson.

    1#Bucsfan, great post all facts

“A franchise QB is never out of reach….you simply have to come up with the draft picks.”

Oh and perhaps come up with the right pick? John Lynch is a great GM. Because he had success he’s always drafting low. So his solution?

Ahead of the 2021 NFL Draft, most analysts predicted Lance or Alabama quarterback Mac Jones would be taken third overall by the San Francisco 49ers, who traded up with the Miami Dolphins in exchange for their first-round picks in 2021, 2022, and 2023 and their third-round pick in 2022.

Luckily for Lynch Mr. Irrelevant, the LAST pick in the draft saved his bacon.
Meanwhile Miami is playing tonight to tie Baltimore for first place.

  14. stpetebucfan Says:

BTW did anybody notice that Mac Jones is also not tearing it up.

I think some people here believe getting a top shelf QB is as simple as drafting high in the first round, as easy as heading into Publix for a six pack.

  15. Leslie Opyd Says:

Then there is Purdy right .Mr. irrelevant. Pretty relevant now right.

  16. BillyBucco Says:

There is a QB in this draft, even at pick 20, that will be better than Baker.
When Baker rolls out, he can’t even run away from 280lb lineman.
That was a routine throw to K Kieft he threw in the dirt.
He pumps way too much and it has gotten to the point that after his 17 step drop that if he doesn’t throw immediately, read 1, it is usually a failed play.
    Yes I said USUALLY.
    It’s terrible to watch.
This guy had like 47 yards passing in the first half, against a team missing guys at every level on defense.
They literally pit him in shotgun on a 4th and 1. And it was a pitch backwards for 5 yards. That’s because he can barely pull off a QB sneak at his size, when it’s hurry up.
The Bucs could win the next 4 games and a playoff game, and I would still KNOW in my heart Baker is not the answer. We are LIMITED, with him at QB, PERIOD.
