Avoiding Dirk Koetter Country

December 3rd, 2023

Todd Bowles

Former Buccaneers head coach Dirk Koetter was fired after posting a .396 winning percentage over three Tampa Bay seasons (2016-2018).

If the Bucs lose today to the dreadful, winless-on-the-road Panthers at The Licht House, Bucs head coach Todd Bowles will see his Bucs record as fall to .400.

Anyone else see a connection there?

Koetter was a first-time head coach in Tampa and opened with a 9-7 record, then the Bucs imploded with 5-11 seasons back-to-back. Bowles joined the Bucs as a seasoned head coach with Super Bowl rings as a player and assistant coach.

Koetter got a six-win team with a wacky young quarterback and a No. 1 running back with drug/mental issues, and a defense short on talent. Bowles got Tom Brady and an experienced roster with a Super Bowl coaching staff.

As Joe wrote all summer, Bowles needs wins. And now he needs them in a hurry.

How could they lose to this team?…Impossible.

  2. EternalSon Says:

    Just win, baby!

    Go Bucs!

  3. HC Grover Says:

If Falcons beat Jets it is over. Bucs will get their 6 by clobbering the Panters 2 times.

  4. Since76 Says:

Bowles earned a trip to unemployment line to this point. Off topic I don’t watch college football because it’s opinions that get you in the playoffs and not what you did on the field. College football is a joke.

  5. BrianBucs Says:

Bucs will blow Carolina away today.
If they would somehow lose this game, their season is over and Bowles should be fired this evening.
That being said, the Bucs should have absolutely no problem with the 1-10 Panthers, the league’s worst team

  6. BA’s Red Pen Says:

Todd was fired after the Huston debacle.

  7. TonySoprano Says:

Serious question, do we have any other ILBs aside from Britt and Russel? If one of them gets injured, will Ko Kieft be playing LB?

  8. 1sparkybuc Says:

I hate to see the Bucs lose, but I don’t want to watch them get humiliated in the playoffs again. I’ve seen enough of Mayfield and Bowles. Don’t tank, but play the backups. It’s time to evaluate guys who will hear when the smoke clears so we can better determine our draft needs. This would be great game to start Trask.

  9. JA Says:

Other than the regular posters to Joe’s site, and a few drunks who are perpetually found atop a barstool in North Carolina, will anybody anywhere be watching this game today?
As for Carolina, Reich did not deserve to be fired. But he’s gone and a far inferior coach will be in his usual pose, emotionally and physically standing still along the Bucs sidelines. Whoever said life wasn’t fair hit the nail on the head.
And some Steelers fans want Tomlin fired.
I’d take him in a heartbeat.
    FIRE BOWLES!!!!

  10. D Cone Says:

If percentages were a concern t the Glazer’s and not broad picture they never would have signed a sub .500 QB.
Joe’s numbers are skewed because one was over 3 years and one is less than two.
Hopefully Bowles Contract will be honored and Joe can make this comparison next season.

  11. westernbuc Says:

If Koetter had Bowles as a defensive coordinator we would’ve been elite.

Yes, I’ve already started drinking today

  12. Sal Says:

They don’t have to tank They are not a good football team They flat out suck #!!

  13. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

Status quo until we are mathematically eliminated regardless of how awful things are. Once eliminated, will Bowles be forced to see what we have in Trask, or will be just stubbornly stumble to the unemployment line?

  14. HC Grover Says:

Bucs will set records on offense today. Canalas trick plays will work every time.

  15. Bosch Says:

Once mathematically eliminated I would think it would no longer be Bowels decision. Of course that will be hidden behind the scene.

  16. BucU Says:

One of the things I absolutely hate at this point is the NFL flexing games. If I bought tickets and they decided to change the schedule I would be livid. I pay you an outrageous amount of money for tickets and then you change the time after the fact? That’s you saying you don’t want me in the stands. That out of market TV revenue is more important than your fans schedules. Cool. I am rapidly reaching the point where your terrible referring, and horrible ethics is creating a line of departure.

I am sick and tired of companies acting in this way. And you have an anti trust exemption? No.

  21. HC Grover Says:

Fish are blasting the washington Commoders.

  22. HC Grover Says:

  27. HC Grover Says:

    Texans clobbering Broncos

  28. HC Grover Says:

HAHAHA Commoders give pick 6 to Fish….Love it

  29. Jack Clark Says:

The Saints are getting blown out by the Lions and the Falcons might lose to the Jets, all we have to do is beat the Panthers and we’ll be back in first place! Go Bucs!

  30. HC Grover Says:

What will the inbound squall do to the Buc Blowout of the Panters.

  31. Mike Says:

I like Bowles personally, but in this league it’s all about winning, and if you don’t win, you don’t stay around for long as a head coach. It’s not personal, just business.

  32. HC Grover Says:

Falcons take 7-2 lead over Jets…Uh Oh….Stainks are tost.

  33. HC Grover Says:

    Washington Commodes has scored.

  34. HC Grover Says:

Only 2 hrs til…The Battle of the Bums by the Bay

  35. HC Grover Says:

  36. HC Grover Says:

THE GAME is Falcons Jets….If the Falcons win Bucs are toast for the division. It is close Falcons 7-2

  37. HC Grover Says:

    Now Falcons 7 Jets 5

  38. Boise Bucs Fan Says:

For the record Joe. I know the running back you’re referring to personally. He’s doesn’t have mental issues and is actually a great human being. You’re comment is ignorant and media bias

  39. Jw94buc Says:

If this cat out of Carolina looks like CJ Stroud today. I better see Bowles on a spike out front of one buc palace.

  40. Bucs 95 Says:

FSU got robbed of a playoff spot so the bucs need too win or this will be a horrible sunday for me smfh

  41. Duane in Sanford Says:

Bowles already has third prize, and he is just finishing out the season. He is not going to win a playoff game even if he gets there. Making the playoffs this season is a likely matchup with Dallas. You keep him to play the games out so that the players have a chance to put out some good tape for next season. No need for the Is he? or Isnt he? speculation. He is done. He doesnt have a clue how todays game is played, and historically, his defense typically wears down and regresses.

  42. HC Grover Says:

The wild card game is on the line today in New York….The game would be a great moneymaker for Tampa as the Bucs lose. But who cares It would be good for the city.

  43. HC Grover Says:

Uh Oh Falcons up 10 t0 5 at the half.

  44. HC Grover Says:

Who would of thought that The Jets would control the Bucs post mseason hopes…They have to come back from 10-5 in 2nd half or it is over and done….Battle of the Bums soon but it may not matter.

  45. HC Grover Says:

Aright aready Jets score FG 10 to 8….hope is alive.

  46. HC Grover Says:

Uggggh Falcons answer with FG. 13-8

  47. HC Grover Says:

    Stainks coming back…24-21 2 left 3rd qtr.

  48. Jeremy Says:

Watching saints- lions and it reminds me of what a failure jamies loseton is. Remember he was a BUCS 1st round draft pick and look at what he is. I believe 9 -7 was the best record he posted maybe 10-6. Why are you guys so hell-bent on a good draft pick? Build around Mayfield. He is a fighter and he wants to play. I think the team would be better off getting a 1st round RB since our dumbass coaching staff insists on constantly running the ball on 1 or 2 down

  49. MelvinJunior Says:

Jeremy says building around Baker Mayfield and burning a high FIRST-ROUND Pick on a Running Back is the way to go for the Bucs future plans. Enough said, but from what planet are these people teleported in from… I mean, WHY even comment when you know absolutely NOTHING about football, team building, and the modern NFL. It’s really unbelievable.
