“About Five A Game Where He Really Flashes”

December 2nd, 2023

Much easier rowing for the Bucs defense.

The Panthers are a brutal, brutal team. The Bucs should be able to win by a touchdown with ease tomorrow at The Licht House.

Say what you want about Tampa Bay, but they’re nowhere in the same league as the miserable Panthers. Heck, Carolina averages 15.7 points per game this season and they haven’t busted 15 points in a game since mid-October. The Bucs have averaged 22 points per game over their last five contests.

The Bucs are a stone cold lock to win tomorrow … unless they don’t.

So how can the Panthers beat the Bucs? Longtime Panthers beat writer Scott Fowler joined Late Hits on SiriusXM NFL Radio this week to talk about the team.

He answered a question from co-host Alex Marvez and touched on just how bad the Panthers offense is. Fowler thinks rookie quarterback Bryce Young will be a good player one day because he looks the part once in a while, but not consistently.

“I think if you watch Young closely and you watch every play, you’ll see five a game where he really flashes, even last week when they scored 10 points … five or six plays I go, “Wow. Now that looks like something Cam [Newton] could have done or would have done,” Fowler said.

“And I think it’s in there, but I think right now his confidence is shaken, and this is in large part the fault of not surrounding [Young] with the right talent. The offensive line has been, you know, C+ at best and ‘F’ a lot of times at worst this year. The wide receivers other than Adam Thielen have just not performed at all. They’ve got lots of problems on the skill positions.”

So there you have it. The Panthers offense is miserable and the QB is shaken and he only has 5 or 6 strong moments a game. Don’t forget the Panthers just fired two of Young’s mentors, ex-quarterbacks Frank Reich (head coach) and Josh McCown (position coach).

The Bucs simply cannot and should not lose this game.

Well, Joe, you sure write these reads with the attitude that the Bucs are losers, Bowles is lining up the U-Hauls in front of his crib. Let’s see, oh, Licht stinks. Woe is us cos wrinkles Brady and Gronkowski are gone. First time, I’ve read that a NFL team can win a game with 2 players. Good one. Plus a Stupid Bowl, wowsers. How about a little POSITIVITY for a change?
Not sure what you’re talking about. The Joe typing here expects the Bucs to win tomorrow. Panthers are horrible. –Joe

Seems like we are missing about half the defense due to injury and even Godwin may not play. As much as hate reading what the naysayers here spew all of the time, I might have to join their camp this week. We just don’t have enough players left to play the game.

  6. Saskbucs Says:

Very worried for the Bucs tomorrow. The Panthers are getting major boosts, playing hard for new coach, returning Horn and Chinn, their best 2 DBs, meanwhile the Bucs are scraping the bottom of the LB barrel for players. They might as well sell out vs the run. If Davis and McCollum can’t stick with Thielen and … Mingo, Bucs will lose by a TD. I’ve been Mr.Optimistic all year but the tide has turned, can’t believe some of the confidence I am seeing. Bowles prolly has a soft spoken speech for the guys tomorrow about how they are 1 game outta first and they worked hard all week so if they have a good effort he is buying ice cream.

  7. HC Grover Says:

Bet the Bucs….this will be a wipeout.

  8. David Says:

Bucs have to go 4-0 against in their division games and defeat Jacksonville and Green Bay to win the division.

    Joe,
I don’t think Bucs can do that. How about you ?

  9. Truth5 Says:

I have no faith. Expecting a blowout loss (because of last year and its a Bucs Life) and hopefully Bowles is escorted out of RayJay at halftime. I am rooting for this to happen. Sorry but I want that man off of this team (I don’t give a crap what Stroud reported.)

  10. HC Grover Says:

DAVID I DOUBT IT BUT THEY WILL CLOBBER THE PANTERS 2MORRO.

  11. David Says:

    Joe,
    I make it easier.

Bucs can win the division by losing to Green Bay, Jaguar and win their division games.
What do you think Joe, can they do that ?

  12. RGA Says:

Watching the FSU game, this freshman QB Brock his 12 yards passing halfway through the 2nd quarter, reminds me of Mayfield.

  13. D Cone Says:

I can see Reich as a mentor as he was a pretty good QB. As far as McCown goes I suppose he could relate to how Young feels going 1-10 in a season.
Andy Dalton is there and will be plenty of support.

Panthers average 40 yards less per game than the Bucs. Tampa has a lot of yards that have yielded few point. Especially at Home. As I look over this ‘crappy team’ the more I can understand why so many jumped on the +5.5.
Enough bets that it drove the line down to +3.5.

This is going to be more work for the W than many think.

Young targets Theilen a lot (77 catches) but has pretty much the same completions and attempts as Tampa. He is starting to get the ball to other receivers as teams try to take him away.

Some fans think that it’s going to be a 30 point win which is ridiculous but it could just a field goal.

Upside is it should be a true home field advantage as not many people are traveling for a 1-10 team. As long as some Bucs fans show up to make a difference.

    —————-

YES, THE POWER OF POSITIVITY CAN NOT BE UNDERSTATED!

THE BUCS WILL WIN TOMORROW AS TODD BOWLES STARTS THE BUCS ON THEIR RUN TO THE SUPER BOWL! FUTURE MVP BAKER MAYFIELD HAS HIS BREAKOUT GAME, THROWS FOR 500 YARDS AND 6 TDS AS THE BUCS BEAT THE STINKIN PANTHERS 55-10!

    #TEAMPOSITIVE!

  15. Dave Pear Says:

The nectar for a flailing QB is Todd Bowles and his confused cover no one defense. They will neither spy Young nor cover his receivers because Todd is worried about stopping the run first. Todd misses the fact that his pass defense is so bad, like Schiano’s and Dirk’s, that no one will really even try to run because a 7 yard completion is a gimme against a Todd defense.

  16. Dave Pear Says:

    The Panthers are indeed horrible.

Todd and his overthinking un-measuring methods has the Bucs horribler. Panthers by 3 scores. This team is checked out like Raheehaw’s 2011 team.

    Bucs finish the season 4-13.

  17. Rusty Shackleford Says:

When the Panthers win tomorrow, Joe needs to shut this website down.

  18. Richard Says:

All struggling QB’s turn it around against the Bucs.

  19. BucU Says:

Is this Joe writer new here or something? We’ve seen Todd Bowles’ Bucs implode against the worst QBs in the league almost constantly over 2 yrs.
You must be new or naive to think this team is better than ANYBODY. they can and probably will lose to this garbage team today.

  20. Pewter power Says:

No such thing as a stone cold lock. They beat the next the Texans then the next week Texans beat us. I don’t trust this team against anyone.

  21. stpetebucfan Says:

I AGREE. WHY THE HELL DID WE EVEN GET OUT OF BED THIS MORNING.
AGAIN, THE BUCS SUCK, HORRID COACH, RUNT QB, YADDA YADDA.
