A March Win Is A December Win

December 11th, 2023

Kicker Chase McLaughlin.

Lots of great stories unfolded in yesterday’s Bucs-Falcons wrestling match, but one could opt to boil down the Bucs’ 29-25 win very simply.

Popular and expensive Falcons Pro Bowl kicker Younghoe Koo missed two field goals while Bucs dollar store kicker Chase McLaughlin nailed a 55-yarder and a 38-yarder, his only tries of the day.

Scoreboard!

McLaughlin has been money all season, even from long range. The March free agent signee from the Colts has made 21 of 23 field goals — that’s over 91 percent! — and he hasn’t missed an extra point.

Joe suspects Bucs general manager Jason Licht has a vigorous middle finger for anyone still dogging him for his poor kicker choices of the past. Licht made the right calls booting Matt Gay in favor of Super Bowl-season kicker Ryan Succop, and then dumping Succop after last season in favor of McLaughlin.

It’s very likely that the Bucs have the best kicker/punter duo in the NFL. Certainly McLaughlin and punter Jake Camarda are a top-5 tandem, and that’s a huge credit to the GM.

Our Punter and kicker have been lights out all season. Speaking of being not lights out but Falcon kicker Yoko Ono probably cost the Falcons the game. It was so nice to see that arrogant SOB miss a couple.

Look, we’re in this and lets make the best of it….i know i know, we suck…but LETS ROLL WITH IT BROTHERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. BucU Says:

    MadMax good post man!

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

What is even more impressive is that his only two misses were both blocked.

    this guy is solid!!!

And, what can you say about Camarda…….outstanding.

  5. Alanbucsfan Says:

    Chase Bank It!

  6. BuddhaBucs40 Says:

He actually hasn’t missed a single kick all year; the two “misses” were blocked.

  7. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

If we could only beat a good team, I would get behind Baker…and there is only what? One good team left on our schedule?

If we don’t beat the Jags, I have no reason to believe we can win in the playoffs. And if you cannot win in the playoffs…then there is no point in appearing in the playoffs.

I wish…WISH! This team had beaten a real team at least once.

If they make the playoffs, I’ll have no choice but to root for the Bucs winning. I mean, going will have already caused us to lose a quality pick anyway.

I believe we lose to the Jags, but possibly win the other games on our schedule.

Beating the Jags though…that would change my whole outlook.

Yesterday’s win did hurt the team though, in more ways than one:

We slid down the draft boards.

Bowles will likely NOT get fired now…because outside of the Jags, the other teams we play are weaker than the Falcons, so we’ll beat them.

Falcons were the best of our division rivals…so we’re walking into the playoffs now (as I predicted months ago; though I did not like it).

  8. NcKe Says:

Young Hoe was the hero in the first game against the Falcons. He cost them boys yesterday. lol

  9. Nutterbuccer Says:

And both misses were blocked kicks. What a stud he is. Young too. Hopefully we have out kicker for the next decade or so, imagine if we could just get our first franchise QB to go along with him.

  10. orlbucfan Says:

So, that Koo dude is Yoko Ono? Really? She’s 90, semi-senile, and slowly dying in a ritzy nursing home mansion in NY state. You wish. The reason Koo missed one of those FGs is cos a Bucs gunner just missed blocking it, and blew Koo’s concentration. Go look at it on the replay. Man, what can I say about McLaughlin and Camarda plus the rest of the ST? They’ve been solid all year. Camarda is a hydrogen bomb and Chase backs him up by being rock solid. Go jump in your pool Jason Licht!! You’ve earned it!

  11. Mediocre Mayfield Says:

    Bring McLaughlin back for sure

  12. Cometowin2 Says:

The kickers get my vote for the Pro Bowl.

  13. ScottyMack Says:

Buccaneer Bonzai, I honestly think the Packers are playing better than the Jags and are a tougher matchup for the Bucs than the Jags are.

  14. Goodbuc'nlife Says:

MadMax let’s go. In with you!

Bonzai, saying “You didn’t like it”, is why fans say fans are rooting AGAINST their team.
I understand what you are saying, and there have been times this year, where I would rather lose and get a high draft pick, than win and pick in the middle, but NOT when we ate playing a game for 1st place in the Division.
Teams play good ball at the end of seasons all the time, and believe it or not, with the running game turning the corner, there is still time this year.
    Look at the Broncos!!!!
Got beat by 50 this year, but are much better now.
I don’t THINK we are going to win the SB or anything, but there are about 28 fan bases that feel the same way.
At least we saw some INDIVIDUAL moments in this last game that we haven’t really seen all year.
It’s those moments that ADD UP, to a winning season, regardless of some INDIVIDUAL mistakes.
Just make a positive difference in the game should be the attitude for this team.
The NFC South might be the worst division in football, bit we are still leading it.

The problem most true fans have, is that because we don’t LOOK good, we are just waiting for the other shoe to drop. Who wants to be leading a division with a losing record? Hell, Im already barefoot!!!!
BUT, So you are telling me there is a chance”?

  16. Bucs Guy Says:

McLaughlin should absolutely be re-signed for another 2-3 years.
