Throw Rachaad White The Ball!

November 11th, 2023

Excellent receiving number.

Spending time at One Buc Palace and listening to folks talk, Joe may have detected an angle in which the Bucs may try to get Mike Evans and Chris Godwin the ball more.

Last week it was terrible how two of the game’s best receivers were targeted four times in the first half — total!

If Joe didn’t know better, Joe would get the impression that the Bucs believe Evans and Godwin are the former Bucs receivers, Calgary Stampeder Donteea Dye and the crooner of the red velvet-lined lounge in the Vero Beach Ramada Inn, Freddie Martino.

Bucs offensive coordinator Dave Canales noted that one reason why Bucs running back and misplaced slot receiver Rachaad White is getting targeted more in the passing game lately — and succeeding — is that White is open due to defenses focusing so much on Dye and Martino Evans and Godwin.

Smart. So why not keep feeding White the ball in the passing game — not the run game — while he has a hot hand?

Joe’s a big, big, big believer in both using your best targets and feeding the rock to dudes that are hot.ย And White is one of the better receivers out of the backfield in the NFL. Yes, Joe typed that.

Consider what the PFF tribe dug up on White in the passing game. White actually leads the NFL in forced broken tackles on receptions with 16.

Yes, leads the NFL!

Joe wants to see more of this. Joe is pretty sure Bucs fans want to see more of this. And more throws to White might mean less attention on Evans and Godwin. That may be where the Bucs are headed.

Joe is certainly tired of folks whose standards for a good day on the ground have sunk so low they beat Joe over the head that White had a “great” day running the ball with a mediocre 73 yards rushing on 20 carries.

Puh-leeze!

Heres the problem i have with this. If we throw more short passes then we still arent taking advantage of what the offense is set up the best to do whch is throw deep. But we dont have the QB with the skillset to do that either. Its a lose lose situation with Bowles because he refuses to scheme to our strengths.

  2. realistic-optimistic Says:

I wouldn’t call 73 on the ground “great.” Not sure who said that. But 73 on the ground plus 46 through the air, and 2 touchdowns sounds like a pretty good day.

  3. Texasbucsfan Says:

White should be a number 3 running back. He is over his head as the number 1 running back. Mayfield should be a backup. The bucs will never be a serious contender with this team. Sorry.

Been far too long since we had a Dye and Martino name drop!

I’m getting the pop up ads also Joe

    Another bluelicht special BUST

  7. Cchead Says:

If you go to see the games at Rayjay, you can clearly see Evan’s and Godwin open on many plays. You dint see this on tv. Baker sees it but won’t cut it loose and throws to a check down. Bowles has preached the whole don’t turn the ball over that it has now effected his decision making. Did the Glazers fire Bowles yet?

Don’t forget the two touchdowns! The goal of running the football is to score touchdowns right? Or does Joe believe the goal of running the football is just to gain a few yards and waste time off the clock?

  9. Plex Says:

Maybe they could use white hike more like deebo Samuel and less like the second coming of Eddie George.

Hey! Ryan Griffin signed with an Italian fooseball team, good for him

What Rachaad White is doing right now is exactly what he should be doing. He’s a hybrid, he’s not a bell cow back. They need to pair him with a between the tackles running back.

Having watched every game as an Armchair QB I would recommend , setting White up with screen passes to get him out away from all the congestion in the line and let him get out show his skills in the open field. I think he is being misused and isn’t being allowed to show his talents. Just One Mans Opinion

The timing tends to get better the more reps a QB gets with his receivers, and Baker seems to be getting better with the deep ball. He connected with Evans twice last week. Unfortunately, one was called back due to offensive PI.

IF he can consistently hit these deep passes it’s going to help the offense tremendously as well as his future career prospects.

Stats don’t lie. You are correct Baker fan. LOL

  15. David Says:

The season is over. Baker can have better timing when he plays for XFL next year.

  16. WyomingJoe Says:

David: What a truly miserable fan you are. Youโ€™ve been bitching and whining since training camp and initially you were irritating, but now your just a joke. And there are plenty of real fans on this site that agree with me. Ask your mommie for some warm milk tonight and kiss your autographed photo of Trask.

  17. WyomingJoe Says:

All you have to do is check YouTube for the talent Baker has throwing the deep ball. Thatโ€™s always been a strong point for him. I agree that his timing has been a little off so far this season, but thatโ€™s about to change.

Aint NObody throwing deep when they’re dropping safeties

  19. D Cone Says:

Big difference in throwing a pass to a back right after the snap than it is after the QB has looked at the other receivers. RB tends to get lost as many times they are held in to block and any coverage is gone.Tight ends also. Screens to White are about as affective as the WR screens have been lately. Going to the well too often on that one.

Canโ€™t believe that on a pass play Evans and Godwin are not getting looked at. Unless the QB is looking at the first read and then checking it down.
That might explain the high completion percentage and 50% of the passing yards being YAC. White has 300 of the 900 YAC himself.

Problem is once the pocket squeezes even a little there is no chance to get the ball out without a booster chair and running is about the only other option.

  20. Rod Munch Says:

No no no, what we need to do is when White is hot, take him out the game so we can be fair to Vaughn and Edmonds and give them a chance to touch the ball. That’s the right thing to do.

  21. Bojim Says:

I like Bowles but he was HC last year when the offense sucked. Same this year. Pattern? May have way too much influence on the the OCs. Ya think?

  22. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

They better feed him hard and heavy until defenses start respecting that because we’ll need to have at least 14 points more with 46 seconds left because can’t trust this defense to hold any type of lead.

  23. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

The Baker athletic supporter known as WyomingJoe shows up whenever anyone even suggests anything derogatory towards his idol.

  24. David Says:

Horrible headline. You donโ€™t ever want to throw your running back the ball 10 times a game. The line sucks enough that Baker is going to have to check to him a bunch anyway. But they need to target Godwin and Evans and the rookie first, then check to him. Maybe set up a screen or two a game as well. But I would much rather prefer Tucker get some playing time and be used on screens. Much more explosive.

  25. Old School Bucs Says:

Joe, is that what is wrong? We need to throw to our running back? So lets go thru the list of problems. Last year was play off lenny, Tom Brady was too old, if we only had a center, our secondary was missing a couple players….

This year our problem is we need to throw to White, Shaq Barret is past his prime, Devi White sucks, David sucks, …..

Keep swinging Joe, sooner or later you will figure it out. Hint, the problems from last year are the same problems this year. And no it wasnt Brady or playoff lenny!!!!!

  26. Joe Says:

Horrible headline. You donโ€™t ever want to throw your running back the ball 10 times a game.

You don’t want him to run the ball 10 times a game. Maybe five at most. He SUCKS as a runner. He’s very, very good as a receiver. Not setting him up for success (throwing) is irresponsible.
