The Kind Of Stats That Get People Fired

November 6th, 2023

Bucs coach Todd Bowles.

My goodness what Joe and all Bucs fans watched yesterday was the pits. And the more research Joe has done on the gutless effort by the Bucs defense in the 39-37 loss to Houston, the worse the loss gets.

Here is what NextGen Stats and NFL Research dug up on rookie Houston quarterback C.J. Stroud’s 470-yard passing day that culminated in a 75-yard, 40-second drive to win the game. It’s enough to get you sick. The info comes by the way of Nick Shook of NFL.com.

Next Gen stat of the game: C.J. Stroud broke the record for the most passing yards by a rookie quarterback in a game (470) and recorded the highest Next Gen Stats passing score by any quarterback in a game this season (96).

NFL Research: Stroud became the only rookie in NFL history with 400-plus passing yards, four passing touchdowns and zero interceptions in a game.

That’s bad folks, very bad. When a defense is that ill-prepared, that poorly executed and your head coach is a defensive guy, that’s not exactly something that builds job security.

The game was so bad yesterday, so embarrassing for everyone associated with the Bucs, you cannot tell Joe that the Glazer family hasn’t since had a conversation about the future of the team and whether they have any faithTodd Bowles can lead their team out of the darkness.

The Bucs have now lost four straight and five of their last six games.

The arrow, as Bucs co-chairman Joel Glazer has referenced, is pointing down.

    SMH JOE!

  2. Derek Says:

    Fire Bowles.

  3. Tye Says:

NO ONE deserves to be FIRED more tan Bowles!

lost to a Rookie QB, banged up defense and 1st year HC….
TB only value was his defense guru BUT that has clearly been out dated!

  4. Leopold Stotch Says:

I just had a feeling Stroud would light us up like the 4th of July. I told my friend who was doing Draft Kings, take Stroud and Dell. Our defense sucks against rookies and backups. Justin Herbert in ’20. Mitch Trubisky. Brock Purdy. Just atrocious. This is beyond my expectations. I made him some money, even. What a punch to the nuts we fans got, seeing this. The offense looks somewhat competent and the defense, that has been carrying us all season, pukes all over itself. Good grief!

  5. Leopold Stotch Says:

Oops, I guess I said something bad. Sorry. Short and sweet. Butters is mad, disappointed, but not terribly surprised we lost overall.

  6. Will Says:

Get fired or give up play calling duties should be his only options with me leaning more towards him just getting fired NOW not at the end of the season.

  7. Duane in Sanford Says:

Start working on identifying his replacement. Its not worth firing him right now. You end up with one of his underlings on the defensive side and he gets a holiday vacation. He cant turn this around, and therefore his underlings cant either. Today is Black Monday for Todd Bowles- we just dont have to tell him until the end of the season. Team Glazer doesnt need to say a thing.

  8. Mike Johnson Says:

Why wait Glazers?. Do the deed. Its time. I’m sure Bowles already has his bags packed. This is not his 1st rodeo.

  9. unbelievable Says:

Fire Todd Bowles, and send Chickenspit Canales with him.

  10. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Should never been hired after the 2021 playoff game comment when Cooper Kupp won the game for LA; Bowels said he would call that again…NAW BOLT

  11. snookman Says:

    DO NOT FIRE BOWLES………………..RIGHT NOW.

Bowles will be fire at the end of the season. Firing him right now will do nothing. This team is what it is and is not going to get any better. There is no coach on this staff that will help solve the issues with this team right now.

You cannot hire anyone right now that will make much of a difference. At the end of the season Todd Bowles will be let go. Glazers and Licht need to start researching replacment head coaches right now. THere are 9 games left in the season so plenty of time to scout.

It only takes one season to turn around a franchise’s fortune. We saw that in 2019-2020. We went from 7-9 to 11-5 and a ring. Glazers need to start doing research now and make this move in January not November.

  12. Jimothy Says:

Ok, I’m the guy that says “stop complaining, root for the team”. That’s said, This is bad, this is real bad. Todd Bowles is in over his head, it’s time to move on. Rookies and back ups out class this team every dang time!

  13. Mike S Says:

Here I thought it would be Baker’s shenanigans that would bring out the torches and pitchforks and he would get run out of town (up until this game they almost did and it still might happen) but no its Bowles.

  14. Rod Munch Says:

YOU GUYS NEED TO LOOK AT THE POSITIVES! THE ONLY STAT THAT MATTERS IS TURNOVERS, AND IF YOU DON’T COUNT THAT LAST DESPERATION PLAY, THE BUCS WON THE TURNOVER BATTLE! IN FACT THE BUCS LEAD THE NFC IN TURNOVER RATIO AND WOULD LEAD THE NFL WITHOUT THAT LAST PLAY!

    #TEAMPOSITIVE!

  15. Rod Munch Says:

THE BUCS ARE 1.5 POINT FAVORITES NEXT WEEK!

    WAIT, JUST CHECKED AGAIN.

THE BUCS ARE 1.0 POINT FAVORITES NEXT WEEK!

SO THE PEOPLE IN THE KNOW, KNOW THE BUCS ARE GOING TO WIN!

    #TEAMPOSITIVE!

  16. Tony Marks Says:

Losing a game solely because of defense when the coach is supposed to be Great at defense is precisely the kind of thing that gets coaches canned during the season.

To me this was not a shocker.Despite all the talk of rankings of points scored against – too often the pass defense has looked like melting butter against any warm pass offense. Texans probably have a generational QB but let’s not pretend much lesser have not sliced this pass defense easily at critical moments in several games..

  17. dmatt Says:

Reason Bowles service should be terminated immediately.
Will someone please explain to me the reason Bowles continue to put JTS in the game. BA would’ve shut him down or traded him games ago. He’s awful every week. I still think about last year when he batted down Joe Burrows underhand pass that was an easy int. Who denies an easy int?

Bad plays by JTS against CJ Stroud and the Texans:

3rd quarter 12:20- I hope I’m not the only one to take notice but on the JTS int (nothing spectacular on his behalf, a gimme to him right in the bread basket) on the two point conversion attempt, the int shocked JTS to the point that he really didn’t know he could score two points on the int. He was hesitant n about to give up on the play as he anticipated the whistle blown. Had he played heads up ball he could’ve scored 2 points. Watch the tapes.

4th quarter 14:11-On Texans qb run on two point conversion, JTS at 259 lbs could’ve prevented the conversion with a wrap up tackle on the qb, but instead, he tried to make a passive hit on the qb with his shoulder which didn’t have an impact. Why did he do this on a 218 lb qb? Watch the tapes.

4th quarter 5:26-While in the pocket, Shaq knocked the ball outta qb CJ Strouds hand causing a fumble, JTS looked at the qb n it was obvious the ball was not in the qb’s hand, therefore why did JTS tackle the qb instead of going after the fumble at the Texans 8 yr line to give us the turnover but the OT recovered the fumble. OMG, this JTS is short of a screw, he cannot think n has a one track mind.

  18. adam from ny Says:

i think the team should rock the all pewter unis next sunday…

    change something up………already……anything !

    #EauDeToiletteBowles

  19. Tampabaybucfan Says:

You have to also consider this: 4 of our 5 top draft picks have been defensive.

    Kancey, Hall, JTS, Vea

And 2nd round picks like Davis & Winfield

We also have big money tied up in Shaq, LVD, Davis, Dean

And big money pending for Winfield and perhaps White.

Bowles has gotten his picks for his priority and has squandered them.

  20. Oxycondomns Says:

“Whether it’s from a coach’s standpoint or a player’s standpoint, you can get lost in the season trying to prepare too much,”

Historic day from a rookie qb. Coincidence ? I think not.

  21. Oxycondomns Says:

Dude is too lazy to prepare a game plan

  22. MelvinJunior Says:

I noticed your last one, “dmatt!” – I just didn’t see very much of the game until the end… went to the beach instead LoL. I tried watching some on my phone, but there was just a lot going on… The ‘scenery’ and people kept calling, etc. BUT, I’ve been saying it all along, that JTS is obviously, NO Mental Heavyweight…💯 Just Dumbern A ROCK.

  23. Kstoges Says:

Man I really like Todd as a person he’s been a good dc for us but he’s gotta go now man there’s just nothing else that game was a win dude 40 seconds and they come down like that rip our zone all day it’s not his fault our pass rush sucks but we gotta adjust man

  24. HC Grover Says:

    But he kept it close.

  25. Crickett Baker Says:

Carlton DAVIS DID NOTHING ON DEFENSE and he was the only one even near the TEXAN RECEIVERS. The game was great and the offense did their jobs, mostly. It was the defense not playing well.

  26. August 1976 Buc Says:

Joe, I said the other day when you posted about the Glazers standing pat, not adding a RB or another piece. That by the Glazers standing pat, it was a loud statement by them about their intent as to what was going to happen to Todd.
I said the Dye had been cast, that Todd needs to prepare his speech that he will give during his last press conference in January – 1-2 days after the season when Todd is fired. Because the Glazers always wait until the season is over to make a Head Coaching change. I stated that the Glazer were already searching for possible candidates to replace Bowles. So now the Jim Harbaugh talk will happen again, and talk about various other candidates. The stench from the den of depression will get really strong by thanksgiving, as 2024 Draft talk gets more and more run here from Bucs fans.

The bottom line is the Bucs need a new Head Coach and a new talent cycle. The Bucs are 2 drafts into a new Talent Cycle, but most likely are 2 more drafts along with some free agents away from being a decent competitive team that has realistic playoff hopes

  27. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

I’d say this ‘locker room’ now comes apart at the seems Completely.
Next week we get that fare thee well Bowles 56-3 mercy drubbing. Which rookie QB opponent will get that honors? Some no-name is fixin to look like a nfl all super pro qb. He probably doesn’t even know it yet. Merry Christmas from tampa bays secondary early! Then ownership makes its move. Been there seen that. Cause…….
    Capece is kaput!
It’s a shame too, ‘cause there are some really good players on this squad fighting for fat new and existing contracts. But other players refuse to be, or can’t be coached up or bothered and it shows.
So dean, Carlton, jts and a few others. Go on. Party hard.

  28. August 1976 Buc Says:

Then ownership makes its move. Been there seen that. Cause…….
    Capece is kaput!

lolol Said exactly this last week also,

Capeace is Kaput, using John McKays words when he cut Kicker Bill Capeace

Just need Taps to be played for Todd, he has until Jan 1-2 after the season before he needs to get a new job.

  29. tbc 1 Says:

As bad as this was instead of taking the 10 second runoff they use a timeout-there would have been no time left for them to go down the field and score-This game convinced me to not spend 4 grand for my season tickets-it is a shame because we do have some talent and with better coaching we would be in first place with a winning record.

  30. Hodad Says:

I said these two games would determine Todd’s future. One down in disasterest fashion, one to go. Lose again at home next week to a 2nd round rookie QB, and everyone will be happy come black Monday. The following week would be another loss at SF making the streak 6 games! No way Bowles survives that.

  31. Voice of Truth Says:

Six wins max was being kind, we may not win another game this season

Think about the players and how bad they feel knowing the have the Tin man as a HC

Leeman Bennet and Richard Williamson – maybe Schiano – all better than Todd Bowles

  32. Bobby M. Says:

I would like to see what Canales can do not handcuffed to Bowles. I can promise you 3 straight plays to Vaughn is a Bowles influenced decision.

  33. NE Fan Says:

So that stat is what get him fired not the Rams blitz causing the potential 3rd SB, not the Cleveland game 2022, not the Pittsburg game 2022, not the Baltimore game 2022, the Bengals fake field goal 2022 and not the Dallas playoff game 2022? This guy has more lives than a cat.

  34. Jeff’s grandpa Says:

Is that what Toilet Bowles meant when he said he was coaching back to basics ???

  35. BucU Says:

And yet so many of you fools still talk about how we still have a shot at the division. Think some of you are suffering from Stockholm Syndrome. Traumatized into believing this team has a chance to do ANYTHING positive.

  36. Fred Says:

Dean needs to go. His attitude shows.

  37. Dacake Says:

We have 59 penalties in 8 games. Yikes…

  38. Allen Lofton Says:

Bruce Arians, your loyalty was to Todd Bowles instead of to the Bucs. Now we are paying the price. It’s time for the Glazers to act soon!!!

  39. Bojim Says:

We always get burned by rookies and backups. What’s new. I still can’t get over 470 yds and 5 TDs. Evah.

  40. TBBucsFan Says:

How is Licht getting a free pass? He chose Cancey instead of beefing up the offensive line with the first pick. Obviously he hasn’t helped put pressure on QB’s as evidenced by Bucs D being torched by a rookie QB with average WR’s at best. He and Bowles gotta go. BYEEEEEEEEEEE

  41. BigBucJoe Says:

This defense hasn’t been good for two years. I don’t know why people–like you, Joe–keep saying that it is. Maybe now that nonsense will stop.

  42. Lou Says:

Rookie coach, rookie QB,AND a rookie WR?? Inexcusable, smh. The level of incompetence from the coaching staff when it comes to decision making is mind blowing.

  43. Richard Dickson Says:

Stroud completed every single pass on that final drive. Every. Single. Pass. I don’t think any of them were even contested.

  44. D-Rok Says:

Toilet Bowles jokes aren’t my favorites…

    But they’re a solid number 2.

    #Pathetic.

  45. 1#bucsfan Says:

NE fan you make some great points. I’m not a fan of Bowles as a head coach and after yesterdays game I’m one who has asked for him to be fired too. So far tho the defense played 1 terrible terrible game this season and other games this year they deff kept us close so it’s hard to say. If we win prob not so many people calling for his head but we didn’t win. I will retracted what I said about firing him and see how the rest of the season goes. Say we fire him and we bring in another guy and our defense goes back to the mike smith days I’d much rather have bowels then the last ranked defense of another coach. It could go the other way too tho. Bring in another coach and maybe our defense improves but before yesterday we have a top 10 defense in points allowed. At the end of the day I don’t care if a team racks up 500 yards on us if they can’t score then that’s all that matters. Yesterday obviously that didn’t happen.

  46. Bucfan37 Says:

Whatever! You play like crap you are gonna lose. Nothing new under the sun. I just look at the loss as a comedy act.

  47. orlbucfan Says:

NE Fan can’t even spell Pittsburgh correctly. No surprise there. I am over the fire Bowles crap. This is his first season with total control of the team. The Glazer boyz better give him another year.

  48. Lakeland Steve Says:

I agree with Adam from New York we need to change something up Sunday. Let’s start with firing Bowles.

  49. DebbieD Says:

Point #1: Todd Bowles and company RUINED the last year of Tom Brady’s career. Why couldn’t we have kept Bruce Ariens for one more year?
Point #2: Bad performance sends ticket buyers away. Does anyone care?
Point #3: In any other industry, incompetence is a fireable offense. Just saying…..
