Let’s Play More Fantasy Football

November 23rd, 2023

Wild YAC numbers.

So earlier this week, “this Joe” dabbed his toe into the fantasy football waters. But only for a brief moment.

“This Joe” is not a fantasy football guy, while Ira Kaufman and the other Joe are all into it. Nothing against fantasy, but real football is king. Besides, as Joe likes to point out, Joe’s idea of fantasy has nothing to do with football.

Let’s dream, shall we?

With zero strings attached, would you take Cheetah Hill on the Bucs’ roster? Hell yes, in a heartbeat.

With zero strings attached, would you take Ja’Marr Chase on the Bucs’ roster? You couldn’t say “yes” fast enough.

With zero strings attached, would you take D.J. Moore on the Bucs’ roster? Joe is confident you wouldn’t turn him down.

With zero strings attached, would you take CeeDee Lamb? Abso-freaking-lutely!

Well, the Bucs already have a guy not named “Mike Evans” or “Chris Godwin” like those guys mentioned above on the roster. But Joe maintains he is horribly misused. Misplaced slot receiver Rachaad White has more YAC (yards after catch) yards than all of those guys mentioned above besides Cheetah Hill. And White isn’t far behind Cheetah.

White is a turrible running back. He may be turning into an elite receiver out of the backfield. Stats suggest that.

White has a nose for blocking, too. He just can’t run the damn ball.

Still think it’s crazy for White not to be transitioned to a full-time receiver role with the numbers he’s putting up in the passing game? It’s getting to the point where it is crazy to keep him at running back.

It’s beyond nuts to expect White after 28 NFL games to transform into the next Roger Craig. If he could, he would have by now more than just once — and that was on foreign soil, no less.

That move White put on Tufunga was so nasty it broke his knee…

It was a thing of beauty.

YET they just signed another WR instead of a RB so IDK what they think RW will do..

Is that the Charles Barkley “turrible” you referring too about White as a true running back

Rachaad White is being horribly misused to run the ball up the middle where our run blocking is the weakest instead of running outside of our tackles where our run blocking is strongest to make the best of White’s speed. Joe keeps calling Rachaad White a misplaced slot receiver because Joe doesn’t realize that if White lines up in the slot then he will be matched up against a cornerback who specializes in guarding fast, quick, route running wide receivers instead of a linebacker who specializes in tackling powerful running backs and shedding blocks from very strong offensive linemen. Rachaad White is so effective in the passing game because he’s a mismatch against slower, less agile linebackers and he can catch the football–just like Christian McCaffrey and Alvin Kamara. I blame Dave Canales for not fixing our run blocking and not designing a running scheme based on Rachaad White’s strengths and weaknesses.

    Yes! 🙂

  6. Beeej Says:

Evans DOES lead the team in targets (82), followed by Godwin (75) Otton and White are 46 and 44, respectively . In contrast, Cheetah Hill has 108 targets. no one else on that team is within 40 or 50 of that

White is a turrible running back.

    Literally fake news.

If this is true, then someone, somewhere, has to have a video that shows White repeatedly missing holes, making the wrong cut, doing something that proves he’s a terrible RB.

When I watch the ALL22, I see a guy who is literally making yards when there is nothing there by being patient. You know who isn’t patient, and who runs behind this same line? That would be Vaughn, who is averaging 1.7 yards per carry.

White is a fantastic receiving RB who gets yards when nothing is there. Prove me wrong.

Go watch a game in person up high and keep your eyes open. Hell, the OC has even talked about this. More than once.

A No. 1 back on the league’s worst rushing team going on two straight years is pretty worthless. If a guy needs five pancake blocks to gain yards, you’ve got the wrong guy.

    ^^^^
Lombardi Lenny was our number 1 running back last year and he only averaged 3.5 YPC which according to Joe is “turrible” and the year before that Lombardi Lenny averaged 4.5 YPC which according to Joe is “good”. The reason is because our run blocking was MUCH better in 2021 since we had a fully healthy, star studded offensive line. Now was Lombardi Lenny getting “five pancake blocks” per play to average 4.5 YPC? Of course not but he certainly was getting MUCH better run blocking from his all star cast of offensive linemen Donovan Smith, Ali Marpet, Ryan Jensen, Alex Cappa, and all world rookie sensation Tristan Wirfs than Rachaad White is this year.

And even if our clueless, newbie OC says that there are holes for our running backs to run through then why aren’t any of our other running backs running through them? It’s either because (A) the holes are not there, (B) our OC is not doing a good enough job teaching our running backs how to run through those open holes, or (C) those open holes are very rare and do not happen often enough for our running backs to consistently run through them. All the great running backs had great run blocking, such as Emmett smith and terrell davis. I don’t know why Joe keeps putting all of the blame for a terrible running on Rachaad White when he’s doing better than all of our other running backs and his offensive lines run block win rate percentage is the WORST in the league according to ESPN.

I’ve been starting White for weeks in DraftKings because he’s been an under $6k pickup.

Unless you are Barry Sanders, you must have solid blocking to gain yards. Ask Derrick Henry.

😂😂😂😂 It’s like Joe can write an article titled “Penetrating Defense” explaining why even the great running back couldn’t gain any positive yards because he kept getting hit before he could cross the line of scrimmage but do the same for Rachaad White ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  13. Jack Clark Says:

That’s what the ALL22 shows you – you can see the holes or lack of holes, and I do not see him missing them or making bad cuts. What I do see, is what the stats show, and that’s a guy getting hit in the backfield more than anyone in the NFL. There’s nowhere to run to in this offense. The line was built to pass block, and they’re not moving guys.

If you put Derek Henry behind this line, he’s going to be averaging 3.4ypc.

I honestly do not see how you can watch these games and think it’s the RB that is the issue, when every backup that gets in the game does dramatically worse.

We havent been able to run up the middle since Marpet retired, and Jensen got hurt.
