“It’s Not A Moral Victory That We Fought”

November 19th, 2023

Tough talk from Todd Bowles this evening when asked about how his team has stacked up this season against the beasts of the NFC: Philadelphia, Detroit and now today at San Francisco.

“We lost all of them. We know we can fight again. It’s the details and the assignments that we got to cut out,” Bowles began. “And it’s the mistakes and the small things that we got to do to play good football to beat these ball clubs. Obviously, playing mistake-free ball is a part of it.

“We feel like we’re in every game and we have a chance to win every game when we come out on the field. So that’s not an issue. Like I told them today in the locker room, ‘you know, it’s not a moral victory that we fought. It’s not a moral victory that we fought. Our victories come when we cut out the mistakes and win ball games.’ And we understand that going forward.”

While Bowles said playing with fight is not to be celebrated, Joe is going to enjoy it for a day.

If Cade Otton or Deven Thompkins could have squeezed a damn football in the end zone in the fourth quarter today, the Bucs would have been within a score of the mighty 49ers in their own crib — with the Bucs defense in the midst of a too-little-too-late revival.

There are no moral victories, but the Bucs didn’t roll over today and the 49ers had trouble choking them out. It’s a sign the Bucs have a strong shot in the miserable NFC South.

It means nothing to fight hard our fight with pride late in games when getting blasted. All it means is you could have played with more heart from the very start

  2. Cchead Says:

Hey Tidd, why don’t you pit out the best 11 on defense. Effin clueless.

  3. Pewter Power Says:

Or it means Bowles is getting outcoached on a regular basis. It odd not a good look getting beat on prime time.

  4. StormyInFl Says:

It’ll be more than a moral victory when this unqualified dumbass gets run out of Tampa.

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We are soft starting games & at the end of halfs……very weak coaching

  6. HC Grover Says:

Cmon Todd that was one of your best losses.

  7. Plex Says:

Devin White and JTS should be benched. JTS can’t play DE and Devin is putting in almost no effort. At this point McCollum and Delaney may be better than Davis and dean. What a waste of $.

No, we never had a chance with bowles at the helm. He doesn’t put people in position to succeed with his playcalling, personnel choices, or clock management. Losers lose and this guy is a loser from his head to his toes. 5 for 5 losing seasons, terrible record against rookies and backups, rookie passing record against his D, perfect passer rating by a guy with less than two NFL seasons of experience against his D, the clown show debacle that was the end of our back to back super bowl opportunity in 21, and many more. He has to go and he has to go now. If we had fired him or been honest about planning to fire him, maybe we could’ve traded DW45 and CD3 before the deadline. But no, let’s protect this guy’s ego at the expense of the team. I’m over it. He has to go now. We can still choke the rest of the season away, I just don’t ever want to see him representing my Bucs again.

  9. HC Grover Says:

You know he sucks when the fans start to rank his losses. I just do not like his ‘style’ not one bit. Hc/Dc Bowzo has got to go. Dump him in the Bay. Fire him tonight.

  10. Bee Says:

You’re funny Joe. You don’t care care about dropped ints from the 9ers DBs but you’re sad about dropped TDs from 3rd stringers? Lol…if they caught those TDs Bucs still lose!

    Cmom Joe!

  11. dmatt Says:

Anyone know why was Ya Ya on the bench for so long? Did Markee Watts get in the game on defense? Did JTS make a play. At this point in the season I say sit CDavis n JDean cause they aren’t making an impact at all. Put Josh Hayes in there. I have no belief in ZMcCollum cause he’s like JTS, passive n lacks the mental aspect of the game.

  12. SBucs Says:

    Is anyone listening to Todd?

  13. Hodad Says:

Yeah Joe, Thomkins, and Otton could’ve made some plays. But Joe, The 49ers dropped three picks also, it evened out. We lost to a better team period. Put as much lipstick on it as you wish. It’s still a pig.

  14. Bucsfan951 Says:

So what did we learn today?

The team has talent but isn’t coached well. Why otton isn’t forced to put gloves on is beyond me!

The Bucs came out and played a game. I’ll give them that. Was it a complete game? Absolutely not. Too many mistakes by players and coaching was what did the Bucs in.

This is week 10. Problems like this should be worked out. The Bucs are just lead by a gutless leader.

  15. TonySoprano Says:

Can’t believe my ears Joe. We just lost out last 5 of 6, and you’re happy today? Because we kind sorta fought hard? The Bowles-effect is in full force

  16. Rod Munch Says:

You got blown out by 13 points?!?!

Who in the world is talking about moral victories!??!

WOW, this is a team that just won the SB a couple of years ago – and losing by 13 is a moral victory!?!

WOW, he should be fired for even daring to say such a loserville thing like that.

Seriously, moral victory? Who the world was even thinking that?

  17. DS Says:

I get tired of Thompkins and downfield stuff he is like 5’6 with small catch radius.

  18. Pelsbuc61 Says:

The best thing that could happen to Bucs fans is that Bowles continues losing in order to force the Glazers hand. They should dump Licht as well. This roster is full of soft, dumb and lifeless players. So much for the “Brady effect”.

  19. Brandon Says:

Two dropped TD passes in a game decided by 13 points. As well as a six point swing on the first half fumble. This team is about to rip off a win streak once they stop beating themselves.

  20. Rod Munch Says:

Brandon – Of course if the 49ers don’t drop 4 INTs, it would be a blowout in the other direction, and Baker would have had 6 turnovers today.

  21. Larrd Says:

I have seen these guys quit and get blown out. I am glad they fought and played so many rookies.

  22. unbelievable Says:

Why are we so bad in the 1st and 3rd quarters of games?

The dreaded “slow starts” have come back to Tampa in full swing

  23. Fred McNeil Says:

Coach Bowles, you wanna know what upsets me? It’s not complicated or physical,,,it’s common sense. What I want to know is how we can leave key SF cogs completely and absolutely and totally unaccounted for. On several big plays those SF receivers didn’t beat their defender…there were no defenders assigned to them whatsoever. Obviously that is unacceptable to fans like me. What I want to know is why does this seem ok to you? Yeah, the offense was sporadic and the defence did indeed have irs heroic moments, but when you simply neglect to cover Kittle or that young wide receiver, or refuse to tackle anybody,,,sir,,,that is unacceptable

  24. BucU Says:

How many losing seasons in a row will this be for Todd Bowles as HC? Will this be his 6th in a row? LOL. I’m catching the score here the morning after. I’m not subjecting myself to Bowles and staff’s incompetence watching this train wreck of a team. At this point I enjoy doing yardwork more than watching this garbage product.
