Dee Delaney Has Faith In Todd Bowles

November 19th, 2023

Bucs DB Dee Delaney.

Joe appreciates and respects the positivity many Bucs fans are hitting Joe with as the hours count down before kickoff of the Bucs-49ers game this afternoon.

On paper, Joe can’t find any advantage the Bucs may have against the 49ers outside of punter Jake Camarda. Especially when Joe witnessed in person how the 49ers curb-stomped the Bucs physically last December.

Even Bucs defensive line coach Kacy Rodgers spoke about that last week.

Now last year at Santa Clara (the crib of the 49ers is some 45 miles south of San Francisco and roughly eight miles north of San Jose), San Francisco running back Christian McCaffrey went bonkers with 119 yards and a touchdown running the ball and 34 yards and a touchdown receiving.

That was the first time CMC got over on the Bucs remotely like that since Bucs coach Todd Bowles arrived in town as a defensive coordinator.

Bowles said last week that one reason CMC blew up was that the 49ers have weapons all over the place on offense. You cannot focus so much on CMC like the Bucs did when he was in Carolina because outside of D.J. Moore and Robbie Anderson, Carolina really never had other top weapons.

“Yeah, that sounds about right,” Bucs defensive back Dee Delaney told Joe last week. “[CMC is] a good player. But yeah, there are more guys to worry about [with San Francisco]. You can’t just focus on him.”

After Delaney told Joe that, he mentioned for today’s game, “I think Bowles has a real good gameplan.”

Of course, Delaney wouldn’t spill the beans. But as good as the 49ers are, Bowles’ gameplan better be on the same level as his gameplan against the Chiefs in the Super Bowl when the Bucs kept the Chiefs out of the end zone.

That’s the kind of effort the Bucs are going to need today.

Rachaad White gets 119 total yards and two touchdowns against the Texans and Joe called that below average but when Christian McCaffrey gets 119 yards and 2 touchdowns Joe says he went “bonkers!” 🙄

It’s great to hear that Double Dee has faith in bowles’ game plan. If only bowles had the same faith in Dee. He should’ve been starting in place of Ryan Neal 7 games ago. That’s just bowles’ legendary stubbornness for ya! Goedonkey last year, Neal this year, JTS his whole career…

    #FIREbowles #NOconfidence

    I hope, we will see

  4. SB Says:

    I give us a 35% shot!
“So you’re saying there is a chance”

    Lol.

  5. Defense Rules Says:

So Joe, with Neal out, does Izien move back to Safety or stay at Nickel?

  6. Hodad Says:

Simply put, John Lynch has done a much better job building a winning program then J.L.. If Brady never came here, don’t know how much Licht had to do with that, no way we win the S.B.. Ten years Licht has been here, and we’re in rebuilding mode? Lynch found Brock Purdy, Licht found Trask. Licht signs Edmonds, Lynch trades for McCaffery. See the difference? Good luck today Bucs, sorry Licht has left you out gunned.

  7. Alexandre Nascimento Says:

Let’s hope we bring the execution to this real good gameplan.
If they play like Houston, there is no gameplan that will succeed.

  8. Buc'n Enough Says:

    Exactly Hodad..
You can also add the 49’s D line compared to our D line…

  9. Oddball Says:

35% seems a bit high. What’s our record against good teams? Oh yeah…

“Licht signs Edmonds, Lynch trades for McCaffery.” One of the bigger false equivalency statements I’ve ever seen. 2 scenarios, and situations on many ways that doesn’t even deserve to be unpacked. Now, knowing people in general and the way people argue online – you won’t even acknowledge the actual point because it’s correct – and you’ll immediately pivot to something that I wasn’t even intimating, and then suggest I was saying that Licht is on equal terms with Lynch or is better than Lynch or whatever other rebuttal that you concoct. Using that scenario as a supporting argument for Lynch is misleading and dumb. Atleast make apples to apples comparison, and while I think year over year RELEVANCY is of higher value than some on off Super Bowl every 20yrs because relevancy is what builds your brand – the bottom line is that Licht still has a Super Bowl and please advise how many San Fran has since 1994?

  11. Obvious Says:

There you go. Just like go for the face went about eventually saying, BUT HODAD, LICHT “DID” BUILD A SUPER BOWL TEAM! WTF is this if he hadn’t this and he hadn’t that???? WTF ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?

    COME ON MAN!

That’s got to be the either dumbest argument against, or one of THE BEST FOR because at the end of the day, LICHT BROUGHT US ANOTHER SUPER BOWL!

That’s A WRAP. There’s NOTHING ELSE to talk about… If he didn’t this and he didn’t that… WTF???

  12. orlbucfan Says:

Lynch has been with San Fran longer than Licht has been at Tampa Bay. What a load of nonsense. Licht is a very competent GM, and Lynch knows it. Now, this 49ers team with all the worship and players they’ve got better deliver a Stupid Bowl this season. Bucs did it 3 years ago as the away team. When was the last time the 49ers did it? 1980s?

  13. Hodad Says:

We would’ve have won the S.B. without Brady. Licht’s product will not match Lynch’s today.

  14. infomeplease Says:

Winning this game is all about making plays. The team that makes plays at key moments will win! The team that surrenders plays at key moments will lose! The Bucs were embarrassed badly last season!! This year???? Reality check starts at 4 pm.

  15. Mark clements Says:

How many superbowls have the 49ers won the decade . This is the nfl where any week anyone can win.

  16. Rod Munch Says:

Of course he’s going to defend Bowles, because he’s the reason he’s got a job. Delaney is literally the first guy I cut in Madden – and he’d be the first guy I’d cut in real life. Just because he’s better than Neal doesn’t mean much.

  17. HC Grover Says:

He wants Bowzo to let him play.

  18. Buccos Says:

Hodad- How many Super Bowls has Lynch won? I’m pretty sure it is zero, unless I am forgetting one. He did win one as a player though, for the Bucs…
