49ers Blowout Predictions

November 17th, 2023

Jamel Dean

A lot of people think the Bucs have zero shot Sunday against the 49ers in the other Bay area.

But what disturbes Joe is that so many think Tampa Bay cannot compete.

Sorry, but Joe sees no reason for the Bucs to get hammered. If the Bucs defense is any good, they’ll hold San Francisco to 24 points or less. And if the Bucs offense has progressed, it should be able to post 20 points. That’s a close game in Joe’s book.

But there will be no close game, says NBC Sports film guru and former Bucs quarterback Chris Simms.

“They’re going to screw over this Tampa defense,” Simms said of the 49ers on Pro Football Talk

Simms was admant that the Bucs’ stop-the-run-first defense is not going to work against the 49ers because San Francisco is too dangerous in the passing game. He predicts a 31-17 Bucs loss.

Co-host Mike Florio had an even stronger assessment of the 49ers’ result against Tampa Bay. “They’re going to roll out of bed and kick your ass,” Florio said, nothing the 49ers are just about unstoppable when healthy. And they are healthy now. Florio pick the 49ers to win by three touchdowns.

Joe is not budging. Sure, the 49ers are the better team. They’ve proven that on the field, but there is no excuse for the Bucs getting rolled on Sunday. Man up and compete.

Too much talent on the Bucs for Joe to sign off on a blowout.

Depends which defense shows up. Last week’s defense: we got a chance. Houston defense: no chance. Over by halftime.

  2. mg Says:

    Go Bucs

  3. RagingBrisket Says:

    Zero

  4. GP Says:

Too much talent on the Bucs for Joe to sign off on a blowout.

    Agreed

Sadly, it sounds like our coaching staff has written this one off already and plans to use the opportunity to “develop” our running game without any plans to compete.

  5. donuts Says:

Simms simply looked at last years score (35-7) and created his analysis for this game. Both teams are different in many ways. I like the Bucs D so much I picked them up in fantasy for this week. I think we deliver a shocker. SF lost to the Browns, Bengals and Vikings, who we beat. It can happen!

  6. Onetrickpony Says:

Baker and Company, shut them up !

  7. Cobraboy Says:

    31-17 could be optimistic.

  8. Marine Buc Says:

The Bucs record playing out West is as bad as their record when playing below 40 degrees…

Especially when the team is mediocre at best.

    SF – 27
    TB – 14

Bucs probably won’t score until the 4th qtr. but will make it look respectable with two garbage time scores.

    Let’s hope I’m wrong.

  9. Hodad Says:

Just win the turnover battle, and everything will be alright.

  10. Jack Sparrow Says:

NO CONFIDENCE ! Bucs will just become a practice squad for the 49ers. Not wasting my Sunday afternoon for this garbage team.

  11. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

If the Bucs defense balls out, and their 2 cornerbacks play tight coverage, we gotta chance.
I’ll say this. I’d take the 11.5 all day long. Any given Sunday…..

  12. Beeej Says:

I think the Bucs could define a victory here as being within two touchdowns at the end

  13. Old Sombrero Says:

History hasn’t been kind in San Fran. Bucs are a 2-14 at San Fran. I fear a stifling shut out – like 20-0.

  14. Obvious Says:

We have no chance and the sky is falling? WTF?

Sure we might loose. AND Sure we might win. THAT IS WHY WE PLAY THE GAME! I’m sure am glad you people don’t run ANYTHING.. FOR A DAMN GOOD REASON! You are a defeatist. YOU ALWAYS LOSE because you HAVE ALREADY LOST!

You guys “as fans” DO SUCK! You don’t know anything! I don’t either BUT I’VE ALWAYS GOT A PUNCHER’S CHANCE! ALWAYS!

You know what your biggest problem is in YOUR life? Here it is, YOU’VE GOT NO HEART! You ALWAYS LOOSE before you step out of the bed.

And before you die with your predetermined, crappy life…, maybe remember a time when you actually had a great day and how YOU HAD NO CLUE that you were about to have one of the BEST days of your life! And YES! It DIES HAPPEN even to BLIND SQUIRRELS such as yourselves..

Maybe Sunday is your blind squirrel moment. I sure hope it’s one of mine.

  15. LJ's Daddy Says:

31-17 sounds about right to me. Why should I believe the Bucs will do anything but crap the bed? I am rooting for my team, but I don’t think the game will be much fun to watch.

  16. westernbuc Says:

I agree but didn’t SF just drop three in a row? I expect us to lose but Bowles will have a plan

  17. Seattle Buc Says:

Marine Buc Says: “Bucs probably won’t score until the 4th qtr. but will make it look respectable with two garbage time scores.”

And the Bakettes will say “Look how good he did!”

  18. Mike C Says:

Wait let me guess ” blah blah blah Joe you are crazy, blah blah blah bucs get killed blah blah blah I am a Troll blah!

  19. Bucsalltheway Says:

Ppl are silly we could have beat them last year but Tom brady mobility made it easy..we have baker he will take off and run

  20. Tye Says:

Looking at the 49ers loses this season, the Bucs roster on both sides of the ball and thinking, The Bucs do have a chance…

AND THEN I remembered who the Bucs HC is and realized, he CAN’T coach anyone to a win!

  21. zzbucs Says:

If Purdy throws where Carlton D is….yes we will get hammered…..

  22. Kgh4life Says:

The Bucs will definitely lose. 49ers have better coaching, QB and defense. The Bucs have to keep it respectable.

  23. WyomingJoe Says:

Mike C… thanks for admitting that you’re a troll. Loser…

  24. Buc4evr Says:

Coaching, we don’t have it. They have a mobile QB, fast receivers and a legit running game. Our secondary is going to be carved up.
Our Offense is one dimensional. After seeing what their defense did to Lawerence last week, Canales better change his stupid game plan.

  25. WyomingJoe Says:

    Obvious: Great comments.

  26. Drunkinybor Says:

They both picked the Titans last week. Do any of the prognosticators get to eat poop after making bad picks. They just get to keep crowing Bahgawwk Bagawwwk.

  27. Jack Sparrow Says:

49ers 47 – Bucs 14. 14 pts in the 4th Qrtr after all the 49ers starters have been pulled out. I guarantee it! 🙂

  28. DS Says:

If the offense doesn’t get started early it’s a wrap

  29. SufferingSince76 Says:

Calm down, Obvious. This ain’t our first rodeo.

  30. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

Purdy is a nice quarterback but he’s hardly special. If we can hit him like we did girl boss Levis then we have a sincere chance to upset.

  31. Tony Marks Says:

I think the defensive humiliation of two games ago sets up the defense nicely. Bowles who rightfully took it personal is unlikely to lay back into that foolishness.

So I think the defense will be at least competitive

IF I see the same play calling and philosophy on offense in the first quarter I will ratch up the odds of a loss/embarrassment. What I really would like to see is a change that affects the entire flow of the game – like going in and out of hurry up/no huddle offense regardless of the clock.

We are always hearing how smart the Coaches think Baker is. Going back in the league to the days of Kosar a smart Qb and the no huddle has been a deadly combination and it always disrupts the defense and substitutions.

Same ole same ole is what sets up a blowout. However, to adjust is often based on recognizing personnel issues as paramount ( on your side and the opponents). Canales so far has shown philosophy trumps personnel in his mind.

  32. Jeff Says:

Purdy is better than Baker. And the Niners GM is far better than Light. Clueless Todd won’t have the answer. Niners may break 70 this weekend.

  33. realistic-optimistic Says:

@Obvious, not sure if you know this but we (the fans) are not taking the field against SF. The Bucs are. Our doubts have no bearing on their success.

  34. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    No chance.

  35. Dwayne Cone Says:

80% of the Bets and Money are on SF -11.5
20% of Bets and Money are on TB +12

Sportsbooks would Love a 24-20 game.

If Tampa take 25 minutes to put up their 1st Point like in Week 10. Forget it. Stands will be Empty by the end of the 3rd Quarter. What would be real embarrassing is if the Network switches over to the Jets vs Bills because it is a more exciting contest.

  36. SlyPirate Says:

    34-10 49ers

…. and it won’t even be that close

  37. Cobraboy Says:

@Obvious: Your rant reminds me of Bluto Blutarski’s speech to Delta House when Dean Wormer lowered the boom…

  38. realistic-optimistic Says:

Maybe Bowles can head home after this game with 6 more timeouts in his pocket. A true victory.

  39. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

This is the game in which Mayfield goes down…either to injury or as starter.

  40. WyomingJoe Says:

BONZAI: You’re such a fool. And a piss poor fan.

  41. unbelievable Says:

Sorry Joe but you’re dead wrong here.

    SF – 34
    TB – 13

  42. Tony Marks Says:

    Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

This is the game in which Mayfield goes down…either to injury or as starter.

    ———-

Anyone who actually believes Baker gets benched if they lose to the 49ers is verifiably brain dead

As for you hoping Baker gets injured ( As Vader would say “denial is futile” we all know you do which is why you wrote it alongside your benching wish all season ) – Sure could happen but unless you are hoping he gets injured at the end of the game

it also might be the day Kyle’s career goes right down the toilet.

Unlike you I won’t hope that for Kyle. He seems like a good kid and he’s been a professional handling his loss of the QB competition. Just because his fan base has sub humans wanting to see A buc’s player get injured doesn’t reflect anything on Him.

  43. Since76 Says:

If the offense plays terrible like every other time they play a decent defense……Our defense will struggle after they get gassed from being on the field too much. Mayfield hasn’t played well with the bucks against average + defenses. When average performance is your ceiling that’s just the way it is.

  44. Cobraboy Says:

    9ers by 3 tuddies.

Lots of Buc 3-and-outs, and a fatigued D by Q3.

  45. stone crab sam Says:

Man up and compete. Thats what I see. If the bucs captains ball out. They can win this thing. This team aint no chumps you know.

  46. Rod Munch Says:

The Bucs are 3-13 in San Francisco – although, remarkably, they’re 2-2 their last 4 times out there.

The Bucs last win out there was in 2016, a game I had forgot about until I looked a the box score. Bucs beat the 1-5 49ers, 34-17, and Jacquizz Rodgers rushed for 154 yards, and Winston had 270 yards and 3 TDs.

If the Bucs can get that kind of a production, which would be a career day from Mayfield and White breaks 150 yards, I think they can get the W!

    #TEAMPOSITIVE!

  47. WyomingJoe Says:

Stone Crab Sam: You’re my kind of fan. This team sure ain’t no chumps!

Buccaneer Bonzai: What s wrong with you? Wishing that someone gets injured?! That’s just sick..:

  48. Kidfloflo Says:

Bonzai, u better hope Baker doesn’t go down to injury, cause if Trask has to face that team as his first, he will get killed just the same and then what will his fans say!?

  49. Sal Says:

Couldn’t compete with lions or eagles so I’d 49ers to the list #!!

  50. adam from ny Says:

    i don’t even want to make a prediction…

during the 4 game losing streak i turned into that wacky homer guy just picking my team every week regardless, and that was bad…

we’re most likely in over our heads once we get off the plane and the jetlag sets in…

if we pull out a victory here that’ll be something else!…but i’m just gonna say nah on this one and try to enjoy the game anyway

  51. Tbbucs3 Says:

    Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

“This is the game in which Mayfield goes down…either to injury or as starter.”

Bonzai, you find a new way to impress me with your stupidity every week.

  52. adam from ny Says:

don’t worry………..this week mayfield is watching tons of old jeff garcia tape

    🙂

  53. Why Not Says:

I was at the 1997 game in Tampa against the 49er’s. That was as a statement game! Low score, but that would be typical of the Dungy teams. Sapp was an animal and knocked Steve Young out of the game. Ronde Barber broke out that season as well….though late in the season. I am not optimistic about our game this Sunday, but our defense has the ability to keep the score low, which gives our offense a chance if circumstances break our way.

  54. optimisticbucsfan Says:

Like someone posted…all-time 2-14 in SF

There’s more than just talent involved.

The time change alone is a factor.

I’d love to see a close game.

    Let’s go Bucs.

    ———

I was at that game too – and Sapp took out not just Young, but Jerry Rice as well. But what I remember most about that is how g-d hot it was. The yankee cupcake I went to the game with ended up going to the hospital for sun poisoning – what a lightweight. Me, I was burned to a crisp, probably the worst sunburn I’ve ever had, walked around for two weeks looking like a racoon because I had been wearing sunglasses.

Was an awesome game to be at since that game, in the new pewter outfits, was the game that launched the Bucs Super Bowl run.

But yeah, for this Sunday, I don’t give the Bucs a chance, see a 31-3 blowout coming. But hey, I thought they’d get blown out by the Bills, and thanks to the offense literally boring the Bills defense to sleep, and getting 15 calls in a row to keep that 2nd to last drive alive, and Evans making a speculator catch off a Bills helmet, the Bucs were able to make it seem close on paper. So perhaps that do that on Sunday.

  56. Obvious Says:

    @Cobraboy

It was in the Exact spirit of. Nice catch man.

But I gotta say,we might just be the actual worst fan base in the league. Maybe not but who out there can top this fan bases doom and gloom?

Just like “sufferingsince76” said, “this ain’t our first rodeo” . Well yeah, of being The Worst supporting cast of fans ever! That’s true.

And what a bummer. Sometimes you just gotta say ” DAMN THE TORPEDOS!”

Now would be “THAT TIME”… It’s Blind Squirrel Time. Besides, I’m in the mood to go against the grain.

    GO BUCS!

  57. IrishTony Says:

SF are regular season darlings. Last time they won a SB was like 94. Let’s take ‘em out like we did under Raheem in 2010.

  58. Oddball Says:

“but Joe sees no reason for the Bucs to get hammered.-“

Perhaps not, but I sure will be.

  59. Buc1987 Says:

    34-6 Niners.

  60. Idroolpewter&red Says:

    LMAO at Oddball’s comment.

  61. HC Grover Says:

A beautiful loss? Sounds like one of Bowlzos greatest losses of all time.

  62. Proudbucsfan Says:

I’m really hoping Mayfield breaks out and hits Evans And Godwin accurately on posts, and crossing routes in stride all game and realizes he can be elite. Lives up to his number 1 draft status and throws 4 touchdowns.

  63. steele Says:

The 49er 3-game losing streak was not a fluke. It was not just injuries. There are problems: poor defensive coordinator in Steve Wilks, weak secondary, a problem with pass rush (that required them signing Chase Young), Bosa underperforming, problems keeping OT Trent Williams healthy (offensive breakdown with him), inconsistencies with Purdy, inconsistency with WRs (Deebo, Aiyuk).

Teams were able to attack these problems for 3 games. There’s a blueprint, one that one better game vs. Jags doesn’t erase.

If Bowles and Canales were better than average strategists, they’d know what to do. If this were a legit playoff team, they’d know what to do. But they were who they are, and we’ll see.

Bottom line, pressure is on SF.

  64. Zoocomics Says:

Context goes out the window in most of these conversations, to include the article, where Joe can’t see how our defense, if it’s any good could give up X amount of points, well this is easy, we saw last season on more than one occasion. IF your defense is on the field the entire game, they’re going to get burned out eventually.

Our offense which has not really been good overall, needs to produce sustaining drives, even if it leads to field goals. We need to allow for this def to get a blow, if we go 3 and out, over and over, and over again, no matter how good this def can be, they’ll be toast. Canales offense needs to win on second down. Sticking to the run is going to put us in 3rd and 7 scenarios that is going to allow the 49ers def to feast on us. Win on 2nd Down and we can be competitive.

  65. orlbucfan Says:

Steele, very good point. The pressure is on the 49ers. No one is paying attention to Tampa Bay ‘cept its fans. 🙂 I’ll have Bucs Radio on. If the Bucs bring their A game, are hungrier and play with pride, they’ll win. I’m hoping that this one will be when Canales and his Offense get completely on the same page, and he trusts them and opens up the playbook. Go Bucs!! (Watch out for the refs.)

  66. Sam Says:

    Praying for a miracle

  67. garro Says:

    Joe! click

Chris Simms (BS Blah Blah Blah BS) click click click click…

    Geez!

    Go Bucs!

  68. Swanee22 Says:

    49ers – 35. Bucs – 10

  69. Buccos Says:

I’m with Joe on this one, close game Bucs compete. Decided on the last series of the game

  70. Bucsfan77 Says:

This is for all the so called fans…. why are you even reading this website if you aren’t rooting for every bucs player? Yes there are many problems we have,, but I still bleed Creamsicle, I will root for my team regardless of how well they are playing. I doubt many of you remember wearing paper bags on our heads in the early years, 22 consecutive losses and I still rooted for them. A true fan reps his team regardless of thier record. We have 2 SB championships, there are quite a few that still don’t have 1. So please feel free to go read the Aints website and make this website less toxic.

  71. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

    49rs

  72. Jack Clark Says:

The Bucs haven’t beaten any team that’s scored more than 20 points on us so if the 49ers score 24 points we are toast. And we all know Dave Canales is not putting up more than 30 points against the 49ers defense

  73. ItzOK Says:

42-9 niners win, When has this team ever performed on the west coast road trip. I can recall twice in recent history other than that they are always getting blown out.

Can’t run the ball , being one dimensional against that pass rush with the leaky Bucs O line spells disaster.
