The Bucs Are A Bad Team

October 26th, 2023

Bucs coach Todd Bowles.

Man, this season is really starting to have the same stench as last year. Only difference is this year the Bucs don’t have the greatest quarterback of all time to bail their asses out.

The Bucs are now 3-4. In the immortal words of Bill Parcells, “You are what your record says you are.” Anyone watching the Bucs closely can see this is a bad team.

Oh sure, it has some good players. At times the Bucs appear to have good coaching. But they don’t have enough good players to overcome coaching gaffes and don’t have good enough coaching to overcome a lack of talent.

Therefore, you have a bad team.

More often than not, especially against good teams, the Bucs simply cannot overcome mistakes on offense. The Bucs pretty much have to play perfect football on offense to put together scoring drives.

Whenever the Bucs get flagged, have a lousy play, or a dumb play like a bad snap on offense, Joe can hear Joe’s old football coach hollering in his head.

“Punt team, get ready!”

So far the Bucs have played three good teams. They’ve gotten slapped around pretty good by two (Philadelphia, Detroit). Buffalo owned the Bucs for the better part of the game but to the Bucs’ credit they fought back tonight.

(Oh, Chris Godwin!)

The fourth Bucs loss came in a tickle fight with the rancid Dixie Chicks. That’s about right for a 3-4 team. Enough wins to tease you but not good enough to put away a poser, much less good teams.

Oh, the Bucs still have a shot to win the division. That’s how disgusting the NFC South is. But this is not a good team.

The way this Bucs team currently looks and plays, Joe will be talking draft by Thanksgiving Weekend. And maybe something else more depressing.

We played just good enough to lose.

So Baker is here to stack wins huh? Bowles needs wins?

Have they ever heard of hurry up offense? You know what other teams do when they get behind.

  10. BCULAW18 Says:

It’s bad football. Boring football. Gutless football.

  11. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Baker is doing nothing but stacking cow patties with Bowles

    ….fire Bowles 💩

  12. Cameron Says:

We are terrible & Bowles should be fired … change my mind

  13. Bee Says:

Godwin wasn’t even looking for the ball

  14. gotbbucs Says:

I’ve never seen a team make the game of football look more difficult. Every single play looks like an epic struggle. So sad.

  15. Jeebs the Honey Bear Says:

The interior of this offensive line continues to be porous. Mauch may be a rookie but he stinks out loud right now. Hainsey has regressed. Our tight ends offer nothing in any phase. Bowels called a terrible blitz with the game on the line. This team has issues and doesn’t much well. Winfield and Wirfs are stars, keep them. Trade Evans and Godwin, fire the coaches, full rebuild time.

  16. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

Baker had 124 yds going into that final drive. The rest is prevent defense garbage yards.

Joe. Joe. We’ve been patient Joe.

He ain’t the guy Joe. He is who we said he is.

    No more Joe. No more!

Time to see what we have in Trask.

  17. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Our Oline was terrible tonight……penalties….and Baker was running for his life the entire game…..they were horrible.

  18. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Bowles will not get fired during the season. Maybe the day after the last game, but not during.

No point in even harping on it.

If you really want change, get Trask in there to develop him through the rest of the season. Hopefully he will gradually remove the need to draft a QB. If not, maybe he’ll become a quality backup for us.

But put him in and giving him time. Season is shot anyway.

  19. Since76 Says:

This is a talented team. Was last year too. Bowles is just blowing it.

  20. Bucsfan951 Says:

From the great movie “water boy”

    “Oh no, we such again”

  21. Jack Clark Says:

So are you gonna write four more articles tomorrow about how we need a running back to save our season Joe? 😂

  22. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

Remember when we were all pissed off when Bowles wasn’t fired after last season.

    Yeah.

  23. Tucker Says:

But the bills are not a good team either they got smacked by a bad bills team hard to watch.

  24. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

Bonzai yeah the glazers don’t do in season firings.

  25. unbelievable Says:

But the o-line is still good, right???

    😂😂😂

    🤡🤡🤡🤡

  26. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Since76 Says
“This is a talented team. Was last year too. Bowles is just blowing it.”

I agree. And Joe Gilbert is blowing it with the development of the offensive line as well.

  27. D-Rome Says:

If the Bucs had something in Trask he’d be playing. The coaches don’t care about what college he played at like some of you here.

  28. Bucsfan951 Says:

But come on, Joey boy! You can’t call out Godwin on that Hail Mary. You and I will never experience what those dudes go through at the goal line on a Hail Mary;)

  29. Bucsdelight Says:

    New HC and New OC

  30. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

D-Rome that’s BS. Trask has looked good in practice and preseason.

This is about Bowles and doing things his way.

He’s going to hold back Trask because he is too proud to admit he was wrong.

  31. Voice of Truth Says:

We are a joke of a team that is just grasping at straws

    Bowles blows chunks

  32. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    D-Rome Says
“If the Bucs had something in Trask he’d be playing. The coaches don’t care about what college he played at like some of you here.”

Has nothing to do with whatever college he played at. It has to do with development.

Trask was neck and neck during training camp…better actually. And Bowles still went with the big mouth QB who is all talk. Trask is a quiet guy…he doesn’t talk a big game. He just…works on his weaknesses.

Not to mention, Mayfield was going to be the starter from the moment Licht signed him for Bowles.

  33. StormyInFl Says:

If the Bucs had something in Trask he’d be playing. The coaches don’t care about what college he played at like some of you here.”

    This – right here.

Bowles isn’t gonna throw the season away by starting Trask. The only way he sees the field is if Baker gets injured or the Bucs are eliminated from playoff contention.

  34. BrianBucs Says:

Bucs got totally outplayed until the Bills went more conservative to protect their lead and their QB.
To the Bucs credit they fought to the end.
Bucs are a mediocre and very average team.
They have some good players but so does every other NFL team.
Very first thing to do to improve this team is to replace the entire coaching staff in the offseason, starting at the top with Bowles.

  35. BillBucFan Says:

Baker is scared and is not even looking for Evans. EVER. Watch the game replay and see how many times he is open. I don’t know if this is the plan since they don’t want to pay Mike, but if I were him I would be losing my mind. Palmer had as many drops as Evans had catches. Mass changes are coming, starting at the top. Start with Bowles and Licht. Licht has swung and missed on as many high picks as he hit on and giving Barrett that much money was a horrible choice.

  36. Rod Munch Says:

    THIS IS COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS.

Sure, the Bucs lost the game, I’ll be the first to admit that.

BUT THE BUCS WON THE TURNOVER BATTLE!

How come nobody is talking about that?!?!?!

Because you all are just haters is why. HATERS!!!!

  37. adam from ny Says:

game really wasn’t close at all…

as in what joe sorta said…”if you watched closely”

don’t be deceived by the score…not really a close game at all…

these 2 teams are clearly not near each other as in power rankings…

somehow we leave buffalo sort of like we held our own on the road – but if you know, you know – and we were never really in this one…

granted we have 2 very winnable games coming up…pepper in a mini-bye, and we do have a decent shot to end the losing streak and wind up 5-4 in a couple weeks

  38. TonySoprano Says:

There is absolutely nothing this team is doing well.

And Bowels is showing no signs that he is willing to do a he or anything or has any idea how to improve. The “We just have get better and work on the fundamentals” response is growing very stale.

  39. Joe Says:

You can’t call out Godwin on that Hail Mary.

Not calling him out. Just, wow, almost!

  40. Canadian Bucs Fan Says:

Trade poor Mike Evans to a team where he actually has a chance to continue his streak.

  41. BitcoinTom Says:

Again bowles is not HC material. He’s a defensive mastermind. But that’s it.

  42. Tbbucs3 Says:

Y’all realize that QBs don’t get hit during training camp? Sure for (for once) looked decent in practice but you know who else does is every NFL QB currently on a roster.

I’m willing to give Trask a shot if the Bucs keep losing but it’s still too early, believe it or not, Baker played pretty decent in the 2d half despite having a high school OC.

Bakers escapes nearly every time he gets pressure or hit which if Trask was in there would likely be sacks.

  43. adam from ny Says:

allen and his receivers looked like a group of stars, top to bottom, out there against our pass defense…

our OC play caller has really got nothing to offer…and i don’t know if that can really change…

baker is throwing into tighly closed windows the entire game…

    amazing he had no ints…

and the run d really missed vita in the middle

  44. BillBucFan Says:

If anyone thinks this D is even average you are kidding yourself. Opposing teams mistakes don’t equal a good D. Allen moved the ball at will, ZERO qb pressure. Thank goodness for Winfield!! His play is the only thing that kept them in the last two games.

  45. Tbbucs3 Says:

The Bucs defense was just as concerning as the offense tonight…cause the D is “supposedly good”

  46. Mike S Says:

Tbbucs Baker holds onto the ball that’s why he has to run around to avoid sacks.

  47. adam from ny Says:

there were a few nutty things…

before the end of the half, the no try 59 yard field goal will stand out as one of the oddest ending to a half this season in bucland…

and the hail mary landing untouched, in arms reach of CG14, was ultra odd as well…no one got their hands on the ball before it hit the ground and he simply located it 2 seconds too late – it is what it is

  48. Lakeland Steve Says:

Horrible defense, bad offense. The stat everyone seems to throw around is the Bucs D is tough in the red zone. The problem is the defense puts themselves in that position by letting teams drive the field to get to the red zone. Our defensive line can’t get pressure on the QB, our star linebacker can’t get off a block or make any splash plays. It seems we only have two real football players on defense, David and Winfield. Even if the Bucs were to trade for a running back before the deadline it won’t matter, we can’t stop anybody.

  49. Mike S Says:

Bonzai – they did the same garbage to Trask when Brady was here. Brady will not accept a young backup and Bruce loved Gabbert – so Trask got screwed.

Then when it’s his turn to step into the role Bowles brought in Mayfield because he wanted to have his guy – not Licht’s guy.

Again Trask got screwed, but at least Trask got some real reps this year to develop his game.

So now what? We wait 10 days to lose to a hungry surging Houston team running happy feet Baker out there again? Its a joke.

  50. BillBucFan Says:

Atlanta with any other QB scores 21 more points last week. I was shocked Buff didn’t go for it on 4th down as there was no evidence the Bucs could stop them.

White finally starts running strong, let’s put in Edmunds.
Let’s force the ball to inexperienced Wrs more than our Hall of Famer.

If you think Baker is playing well and. Making good decisions, rewatch the game and count how often he overlooks WIFE open receivers or throws the ball too late.

  51. Jason m Says:

    Fire Bowles !!!

  52. 850Buc Says:

Baker could have played better but I can’t bring myself to be too pissed at him last week or this week. The coaching is terrible, pre-snap penalties galore, no run game, bad game management. It just feels like other teams move the ball pretty effortlessly against us but then we make every yard look like a grind for us to get.

  53. Pewter Power Says:

So much for the they’ll be better than people think talk

  54. The Beer Whisperer Says:

A very good description, with the gaffes Joe.

“Players and Coaches take turns being bad”
Occasionally, they are all bad at same time, I’ve noticed.

  55. Nope Says:

😆😅🤣😂 Randy Travis once said…”I told you 😪😥😢😭😫😆😆😆

  56. Cobraboy Says:

We should be talking trades for draft picks for the next coaching staff to stock his roster.

Mike Evans deserves a better ending of his career.

Amazing what a difference Vea makes in the middle, huh?

  57. unbelievable Says:

    ZERO PASS RUSH.

FROM A “DEFENSIVE MASTERMIND” HEAD COACH!!!!

    ZERO!!!!!!!!!!!!

  58. BillyBucco Says:

Please stop saying the coaching is what makes Baker bad!!
    He is TERRIBLE.
HAPPY feet ALL GAME (Never settled down)
Supposedly there is a 2.7 second rule. LMAO Try 4.7 seconds with some aerobics in between.
His vision and reads are BAD. Stares down his receivers.
Timing on throws is HORRIFIC. Mike trotted off the field in disgust on his first target that was 5 yards outside.
Way Way Way too many pumps and pumps and pumps. He is gutless. No confidence in himself. He looks like he is playing horse shoes on his throws. When he tries to loft the ball as in Mikes TD is just looks wrong.
You will NEVER convince me he is any good. NEVER
    Because he isn’t. PERIOD.
    END OF DISCUSSION.
Now what we do from here, is a mystery. I’m confident Bowles is a PROUD man. He is a black head coach and that means it is harder for him to get this gig again, face it, its the facts. He knows there will be growing pains with Trask. Anybody who thinks he is gonna LIGHT IT UP game 1 is delusional.
Problem is, he could have had 7 games of experience now and he doesn’t.
How must Licht and the office and management who drafted him n the 2nd round feel about that?
I’m sure they let Bowles do it his way, and he will own his decisions. That ownership starts with him wondering what would have happened if he just went with Trask. I said it in the beginning, if Trask is NOT the guy, you have an escape by saying I DIDNT DRAFT HIM. Maybe they keep Bowles.
Problem is his defense is terrible between the 20s and that leads to Bad Field Position.
Bowles should absolutely be fired, but in season, is probably just cannon fodder because we are pissed. Trying to get Harbaugh is probably the quickest turnaround this team can hope for. I seriously doubt he will want the job. If I’m the Glazers, I need to do whatever is the most attractive for the next coach, NOW.
That is trading away your best guys for draft capital. I’m sorry but even Wirfs and Winfield should be considered. We need like 3 first rounders and 3 second rounders for this team next year. We can’t afford to PAY anyone. We have already drafted reasonably well so it is a start.
FULL REBUILD MODE. Saying and doing anything less is still a hangover from the SB win.
Please do the RIGHT thing and go get a real coach and make it attractive.

  59. Mike Johnson Says:

Us old Buc fans told all of you going into the season this was a 6 or 7 win team at best. We are on target. Licht did not pursue a QB And thought his line was fine. We are who our record says we are. I mean you guys really did not believe we were going to beat the Bills now did you? I knew we were not.

  60. PowerOfPewter Says:

Time for Trask and the tank. He ain’t the answer, but having him flounder around on the field will shut up the fanbois for good.

  61. Glass Half Full Guy Says:

Not having Vea in there tonight hurt us in stopping the run (but big Will did a nice job) and getting pressure on Allen. It looked as if the scheme was somehow different as a result. Can’t put my finger on it and will have to watch it again but the underneath pass coverage was brutal. Allen dinked and dunked at will and we rarely had anyone spying him against a possible run.

On offense, White actually had a much better game than usual. Baker was off. He was under pressure a lot but even when the pocket was relatively clean he had “happy feet” and never looked comfortable. He always seemed to be wanting to escape rather than step up or to the side a little. Zero pocket presence and awareness most of the night is what I saw.

More dumb penalties although I think the one holding call on Mauch was iffy . I didn’t see a grab. Looked like the guy slipped, Mauch pushed him straight down and landed on top of him. Dumb holding call by Palmer and 3 dumb false starts by Goedeke stood out.

And “Oh, Chris Godwin!” is what I was thinking. That was a huge “if only” play. No way do I blame him because he had a guy all over him but his internal clock must have told him the ball had to be in the air by then. All of our guys were getting mugged on that hail Mary. Too bad flags are rare on those. Another “if only”.

Yet another game that was actually winnable despite being huge underdogs.

  62. ACleven Says:

Will you, Joe, finally get off your love fest with Licht and start questioning his team building skills? How many winning seasons has he had? How many playoff seasons has he had? He won a SB with Tom Brady? Great but a squirrel gets a nut once in a blue moon. He can’t draft outside of a punter, a single stud OL and a Safety. Please, please, please…..start asking the tough questions as Bowles can only coach the product on the field and that’s Licht’s job.

  63. bucco90048 Says:

    It’s a Bucs life.

  64. Itzok Says:

They can only barely win when they get 4 turnovers. They stink. Another lost decade has begun

  65. Joe Says:

Will you, Joe, finally get off your love fest with Licht and start questioning his team building skills?

We talking about the same guy who built a Super Bowl winner? If so, Licht has already demonstrated he knows what he’s doing.

  66. Phred Says:

The Bucs are a bad team. A few talented players. Mediocre coaching (at best). And a QB just good enough to get a coach fired.

Bucs lose in the trenches. Have a horrible running game and are not competitive against good teams.

Nothing will be fixed this year.

  67. Howard wiley Says:

Trash they are, sloppy offense. The defense is tired cornerbacks can’t defend

  68. Mike Malarkey Says:

Trask is not the answer and not a franchise qb either. Stop asking for him. If baker is so bad you want him in don’t you?

  69. Dacake Says:

If I want to watch a bunch of guys not score, I will go down to the local bar. This dollar store team can’t score.

  70. power sweep Says:

Mike Malarkey, you say “Trask is not the answer and not a franchise qb.” You know this how?

  71. Jeff’s grandpa Says:

    3-1 to 3-4 in what 11 days it’s a Bucs life

  72. Oneilbuc Says:

Baker Mayfield is a trash 🗑️🗑️ quarterback and it nothing wrong with wanted to see what Trask can do. The one thing we do know is Baker Mayfield suck and he showed y’all that for the past 5 years but some of y’all hate Trask so much because of what college he went to you rather lose with Baker Mayfield than give him a chance and see what he can do. Baker Mayfield is worse than Josh Freeman, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Josh Mcown!! Lol 🤣🤣

  73. Mike Pengelly Says:

Coaching is never better exposed than 2nd qtr, 2:00 min warning, we have the ball. Watch this time might…cal a run up the middle, no gain and then huddle up and before the ball is snapped, we’re under 1:30 !! Surely you call a couple of plays at the break and short passes to the sidelines and move the chains. Dumb penalties abound again. This team is under-manned (really missed VV) and under-coached.

  74. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    💩💩💩💩💩💩💩 Fire Bowles 💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩

  75. Ultra ClodHopper Says:

The first couple weeks were a mirage. Todd Bowels is who we thought he was!

  76. magicbuc Says:

Being average in the NFL seems to be the worst spot. Never get a high enough draft spot to really improve, and never really in position to contend for a title. It seems to be an all or nothing kind of league.

  77. Mike Malarkey Says:

@power sweep tell me one game in trasks career where you have seen an inkling of that even close to happening? But for the trask is better than baker fans…. is trask better than potential qb prospects next year that we would miss out on if we win a few more games and still miss the playoffs? Odds say no. So if yoy want an improvement at qb going forward however you look at it, it aint trask. Let baker stop gap or crash out. Either way new qb will not be and shouldn’t be trask.

  78. BOAT Says:

Todd Bowles’ offensive system is the biggest joke in the entire NFL. He completely destroyed a Jets team that had a very good offense, as soon as he became the Jets head coach, and he did the same thing to the Bucs’ offense. The Bucs had a great offense and he completely destroyed it.

All the Bowles’ lovers defenders and their ridiculous BS excuses are totally exposed. They blamed Brady most of all, and they claimed it was mainly because of him, they also blamed Evans, they also blamed Leftwich……when it was 100% totally obvious to anyone and everyone that had ever seen a Jets game when Bowles was the Jets’ coach, that it was 100% ALL because of Bowles.

Congrats to Bruce Arians, Jason Licht, and the Glazers for the absolutely brilliant move to hire the guy that many Jets fans consider to be the worst head coach their franchise has ever had.

So far, Bowles has managed to wreck the second year of Brady, when he was still the Bucs’ defensive coordinator, as the loss to the Rams in the playoffs was Bowles’ fault, and the team probably wins the Superbowl that year if not for that ridiculous blitz call.

Bowles also wrecked the last year of Brady’s career, as his absurdly anemic and pathetic “offensive scheme” from 1970, destroyed any chance Brady had in his last season….

And now, at this point in time, Bowles is well on his way to establishing that the Bucs will once again be a complete and total joke of an NFL franchise. Bowles’ “run first” offense features the worst running game in the league, and makes an NFL offense from the 1980s seem extremely complex by comparison.

It’s absolutely amazing that Bruce Arians has so far largely escaped the criticism and blame that he very strongly deserves for forcing this totally ridiculous clown of a coach on the Bucs. The Jets still haven’t recovered from the mess that Bowles left them in. Then he ruins the Bucs’ playoff game against the Rams. So what is Arians genius idea in response? Let’s make that guy the head coach of the team. Absolutely brilliant move Arians.

  79. Dan Naughton Says:

There was numerous pass interference in the end zone. This year the refs suck. Missed calls

  80. Brandonbucc Says:

I’ve been saying they’re bad and received so much flak

  81. Marvin Says:

We all knew this at the beginning of the season. We got lucky with those three wins. Nothing has changed.

  82. Tim R. Says:

If your team can’t put pressure on the quarterback and there isn’t a running game then you are going to be mediocre.
