Playoff Calculator: Bucs With OK Shot At Playoffs

October 2nd, 2023

March to the playoffs.

If you believe in the numerical mumbo jumbo of playoff odds after Week 4, the Bucs have an OK shot of playing meaningful games in January.

Per something called Playoff Status, the Bucs have a 68 percent chance of reaching the postseason as a result of slapping around the slimy Saints yesterday.

The win gave the Bucs an overall record of 3-1 entering prepares for its bye week. “Prepares” means hanging on a warm beach somewhere with island women frolicking around.

Face it, very few believed the Bucs would be a strong playoff contender this fall. Already the Bucs have two road wins and they’re not just 3-1 overall, but 3-1 in conference play, which can be a key postseason tiebreaker metric.

Next up: The bruising Lions are in town a week from Sunday for the Return of the Creamsicle Day.

1 percent away from a nice chance… Dang it.

  2. Allbuccedup Says:

Definitely the class of NFC south. Atlanta and Carolina stink and the Saints made a huge mistake signing Carr.

at this point, if the bucs are who we think they are…..

if we can just win one of every two games we play moving forward for the next 6 games (or better), we are in good shape…because there are a bunch of tough azz teams on the schedule thru week 11…

i think the schedule then softens slightly after that – and if we stay relatively healthy and hit our stride, maybe we can go on a little streak in the final six, and win like 4 of the final 6 games…rounding out with 10 wins, or maybe even better if we really get rolling…you never know…

so the next 6 games seem really tough because we play what most consider to be 3 powerhouse teams in that group (detroit, buffalo, san fran)…and the so called pushover teams in that 6 game block are no pushovers either (atlanta, houston, tenn)…

the final 6 games is more likely where we hit our stride if lady luck is on our side this season

Bucs are mathematically on pace to a 12 win season, and winning the NFC South outright.

  5. Larrd Says:

The Bucs should have been division favorites all along.

  6. pewter941 Says:

We have a good chance of beating the Lions, Bills and 49ers are our only other losses, we should beat everyone else.

  7. BA’s Red Pen Says:

As I’ve said from the beginning, this division stinks and the Bucs most certainly can win it.

  8. HC Grover Says:

Lions Game is BIG. Beat Lions and Falcons and we should be in there.

I’m not worried about the playoffs. One game at a time.

“the Saints made a huge mistake signing Carr.” But…but…but..they still have Fameis! He was 1 for 1 yesterday.

@AdamfromN.Y. I agree with your analsys. My biggest fear is injuries. However I’ve been told here that Trask blows away Baker so I suppose no need to worry there eh?

Good news is that the Bucs have discovered a youthful infusion of talent at DB.
    This makes Dean expendable.

Our secondary is strong. Are weakness is our pass rush, the sacks we had were all coverage sacks. Todd should unleash Devin White on the blitz, him and Winfield up the middle and off the edge could get a lot of pressure and sacks. We need more push and bench JTS for YaYa.

Lets just calm down with the playoff talk for the time being, the team has beat 3 bad teams, and got its a– kicked by the one good team it played. That certainly doesn’t take anything away from the Bucs, but that’s the reality of it. Lets see how they do in this upcoming stretch where they play the Lions, Bills and 49ers. Personally I assume they’ll lose all three of those, which is OK so long as they win the games they’re supposed to win.

In any case as a kid I remember Ray Perkins getting the Bucs out to 3-1 and 4-2 in 1990, and I compared this team to Perkins all offseason, thinking they’d get off to a hot start before falling apart. I am, however, recanting that since they didn’t beat the Eagles, which was a great thing, since bad Bucs teams always beat the Eagles, so if they won, then the comparison would have been complete.

But, the biggest reason for hope is that the team isn’t really getting big unstainable plays as their reason for victories like they did in 2018 when people here, in the messages, were thinking Fitz really was going to throw for 7000 yards and 72 TDs.

But now we need to see how the Bucs play vs Detroit, who is on a roll. They need to have a much better showing than they did vs the Eagles.

  13. David Says:

Ok. Win the south beating up on crappy teams within your division as last year. Can Bucs with Toilet Bowl and a NFL rejected qb, Baker defeat any good team in the playoffs ?
They go blown away by Eagles already. That is not a good sign.

One game at a time folks. Every time they start talking about stats I’m saying to myself ‘Any given Sunday ‘
