“If We Have Everybody Play Like That, We’ll Be Fine”

October 24th, 2023

All-Pro season?

From the depths of the somber moments immediately following the Bucs throwing a game away for control of the NFC South, a bright spot came from Todd Bowles.

Bucs safety Antoine Winfield had another stellar game. His fourth-quarter punch to force a fumble from Dixie Chicks quarterback dismal Desmond Ridder gave the Bucs a chance to win.

And of course, the offense shat all over itself.

Winfield, a Pro Bowler, is playing at an All-Pro level. The guy is all over the place delivering impact.

After the game, Bowles was asked about Winfield’s key forced fumble.

“If we have everybody play like that, we’ll be fine,” Bowles said.

Joe later recounted Bowles’ quote to Winfield. Winfield chuckled.

“I take that as a compliment,” Winfield said. “I am just trying to make sure everybody is at my level and come with the same intensity.

“[The play on Ridder was] still not good enough. Have to make more plays to win.”

The Bucs aren’t out of it. They can still make the playoffs and control their own destiny. Lots of games left.

But man, after Sunday, they better find a way to caulk all those cracks in the drywall.

At least one guy on this team (arguably 2 with Whirfs) is playing like he wants a contract extension. Kudos to him, he’s the real deal Winfield!

  2. Upstate NY BUC Says:

Off subject, but we need to bench Neal Immediately!! He doesn’t want to play for the Bucs… He’s a Seahawk by blood he dogging out there!!You guys must of forgot how Neal mentioned in training camp that he really wanted to stay with the Seahawks and this was just a one year deal with Tampa. I will be in Buffalo thursday to watch closely, Go Bucs.

  3. Pewter Power Says:

A free plays here and there, timely turnovers. Atlanta kind of move the ball at will between the 20’s a staple of Bowles bend but don’t zone which his players aren’t good at.

For some reason they keep drafting press corners to play zone

  4. Bojim Says:

Admittedly I flipped the channel in disgust as Ridder was a few yards from the end zone. Came back a few minutes later and saw the same score. Oh boy! We still have a chance! Oh well.

What a great player……he has desire to go with his talent….too bad the spectacular play didn’t win the game….it should have.

  6. DBS Says:

This man you Pay. White you say goodbye.

  7. Fansince76 Says:

They had to have that game and didn’t get it.
i now do not have any playoff expectations this season.
Hope i am way wrong and they get there but doubt it.

That’s HIS and HIS coaches JOB to get everyone playing like Winfield period.

    something to ponder:

that ridder guy cost his team as many points as they scored…

they should have had upwards of 30 points sunday…

    in a blowout…

we got an awful lot of breaks to keep it close

  11. StormyInFl Says:

Too bad his partner in the backfield is a complete waste of a roster spot.

  12. SlyPirate Says:

FA Earning Extensions: Winfield, Wirfs, McLaughlin, Dee Delanie
FA Not Earning Extensions: D. White, Evans (not for his stated amount)
FA Up in the Air: Baker

    This coaching staff blows.

  14. Obvious Says:

You guys are right. Neal is Not the real deal. He IS however the son in-law of Canales.

Winfield….. = “SUPER STAR” and probably the best all round player on the team. Obviously the man is an “All Pro ~ Pro’s Pro” He would have been ruly worth a top 5 pick in just about any draft.

As far as the O line versus the running back problem… it seems to be that the truth as usual is somewhere in the middle. And it becomes clear that usually there is green grass to choose to head towards (right or left of the pile) on almost every play instead of the dead end wall of bodies. They never seem to choose to GO AROUND!

It’s almost like they have blinders on like you would find on a horse pulling a buggy,
Not aloud to go around or just No Vision?

It’s crazy to think that some organizations have a couple of down years and then they get right back to winning, with our Bucs it’s the opposite. We have one great season and one good season and go right back to the bottom of the barrel. I think they should fire Bowles and Canales, convince Arians to finish out the season as our head coach/offensive coordinator since we are still paying him anyway. One of the defensive assistants can be promoted to coordinator. I’ll be positive our season finishes strong and we win the division.
