Generous Grade For Bucs From CBS

October 24th, 2023

Bucs coach Todd Bowles.

After watching that terribly undisciplined, impotent Bucs offense on Sunday, if Joe were grading the Bucs there would be no way they would have gotten anything more than a “D.”

The only reason the Bucs didn’t get an “F” from CBS, in Joe’s mind, was the defense held the Dixie Chicks to 16 points.

For the offense to come out that flat after an allegedly strong week of practice — and for the second straight game after the bye — that should send out alarm bells that something is going on behind the scenes.  Or maybe what’s not happening behind the scenes is the better angle to look at it.

The undisciplined offense particularly irritated Joe.

John Breech of CBS apparently was not that appalled. He thought the Bucs played OK overall. So he gave the Bucs a “C” grade.

…  The Bucs scored zero touchdowns on two trips to the red zone. They also had a key drive come to an end late in the fourth quarter after Mayfield threw an interception. The offense is going to have to improve if this team wants to have any shot of competing for the NFC South title.

Boy, if that game for the offense is a “C,” then Joe sure doesn’t want to see what an “F” from Breech would look like.

Time is quickly running out for the Bucs to solve the riddle of why they cannot score points. The name of the game is points.

The Bucs lose another game or two in the next three weeks because they can’t spark their offense, postseason hopes could be toast. And then that would be a big fat “F” of a season.

We’re a C team that just put out an F performance.

  2. Tye Says:

Like I posted days ago, a lose to the SORRY Falcons would be and now is an indictment against the coaching staff… Several losing teams are now improving and even beating the top teams while the Bucs are losing to lesser teams!

  3. Rod Munch Says:

Boy, if that game for the Bucs is a “C” Joe sure doesn’t want to see what an “F” from Breech would look like.

I think you’re going to get to see what an “F” grade looks like on Thursday night.

To be clear, I’d love to be wrong and see the Bucs get the W. But I expect to see a disaster.

    ^ Yup.

Bills game is gonna get real ugly real quick, unless Josh Allen has a meltdown.

The truth is that some opportunistic, if not downright lucky turnovers by our defense have really kept us in most games this year. Think about it:

Vikings, Bears, Falcons… all games that were close, and were only kept close due to a bunch of turnovers. Without those, they’re all losses / blowouts.

The offense has stunk since the bye week; and the defense is inconsistent- at times looking stout and other times looking like soft Swiss cheese.

Bills game will get ugly quick.

  6. CleanHouse Says:

I was mocked for saying the team is not that good during everyone’s frenzy

  7. Nope Says:

May as well wear the throwbacks on Thursday night 😆🤣

  8. FortMyersDave Says:

Breech did not watch the Bucs game, that is for sure, he just looked at the score and saw the turnover ratio. BTW, Breech gave the Lions an F-, said that they did not get their first first down against Baltimore until very late in the 2nd quarter and the Raven got like 355 yards of offense in the first half. This is the same Detroit club which held our Bucs to 6 points. Breech said it was so bad in Baltimore that the network switched off the game and went to another game which had to be Tampa/ATL or Chicago/Denver so a lot of people across the nation got to see how putrid the Bucs were on offense in the second half and the gag job by Ryan Neal which cost the Bucs a chance to lose in OT.

  9. ModHairKen Says:

    Bills 31-6.

Long break before next game. Hainsey will discuss techniques and fundamentals. Rachaad White will do some social media. Baker will call Oklahoma and whoever they are playing from the sideline.

Bowles will sit on his couch for 38 straight hours making the same face he made Sunday.

Dean and Davis will get hurt cleaning their showers with Tilex. Ryan Neal will get lost in Publix.

Bruce Allen will endorse Leftwich to return as special assistant.

  10. K_bassuka Says:

C grade is correct, B+ for the OL, ST and Defense; B for WR, C for RB, C- for the QB.

  11. garro Says:

    Yup Joe totally agree.
Kinda confirms that not many of these talking heads actually watch the games.

    Go Bucs!

  12. Jeff’s grandpa Says:

    Interior oline has F players

  13. NE Fan Says:

Falcons average 16.5 points a game worst in the league D played to the average “C-” the – is because of the loss.

  14. Kalind Says:

I’ve said it now too many times: there is absolutely no excuse in this day and age to have a defensive minded head coach. You have one and your team is dead before you can even get going

“Ryan Neal will get lost in Publix.”

    Post of the morning!

  16. Bojim Says:

Crappy amount of points last year and crappy amount of points this year. Sounds like Bowles won’t keep his fingers off the offense.

  17. Glass Half Full Guy Says:

I wish I had Mr. Breech as my HS chemistry teacher.

As for the Bills Thursday night, Josh Allen doesn’t usually have back-to-back bad games BUT he’s tied for 3rd most T.O.s among QBs at 9 (2 fumbles lost and 7 picks). Ridder leads the pack with only 2 more at 11. In my little brain I think he’s overdue for more fumbles. Maybe, just maybe, Kancey, Vea and Co. can apply enough pressure to force some bad throws with a strip-sack or 2?

Then all we need is the offense to not blow the opportunities (again) and we can make a game of it. Maybe a short week to prepare will help us. Lord knows 2 weeks to get ready for the Lions followed by a full week to prep for the Falcons didn’t help us.

At this point we need some luck because sometimes “it’s better to be lucky than good” and we certainly don’t look too good right now.

  18. Ed Says:

The only grade that counts is if they are 4-3 after Thursday night. Its the NFL, its next up game.

Do the Bucs players have enough “moxie” to play aggressively and not make mistakes? Or is it that there is a hazy cloud of doubt of the effectiveness of the coaching at One Buc and players are collecting checks.

Jason Licht’s signings of Davis and Dean to their deals is going against the grain of what other teams are paying corners. The Bucs are the only team that is paying 2 corners nearly $15,000,000 a year. There are other teams that have a higher paid corner but no one has 2. Just like WR, we are paying 2 # 1’s and yet neither puts up top 10 numbers.

The point is that the Bucs are top line heavy in their salary cap and there is only one true top 5 player on the team, Tristan Wirfs.

Its disfunctional the way the roster has been put together. Way too many first round and 2nd round picks that havn’t improved over the years: JTS, Devin White, Rashod White and Robert Hainsey. You have to pick good players in those spots. Can’t evaluate Logan Hall yet but he too looks like a reach at where he was drafted.

  19. WyomingJoe Says:

Typical piss poor attitude from Capt’n Munch and the rest of the gang. I rate their narratives and attitudes an “F.”

  20. NE Fan Says:

Bucs played a team that scored the least amount of points in the league Buffalo sits at 3rd in points per game leaders. The O better kick it in quickly. This has the making of a complete blow out.

  21. SlyPirate Says:

PREDICTING EVENTS OVER THE NEXT 3 GAMES
    1. Big Loss at Buffalo. 38-13 (3-4)
    2. Players only meeting
    3. Licht conversation with Bowles
    4. Changes at starting RB, S, LG
    5. No trades
    6. Close loss to Texans. 20-17 (3-5)
    7. Baker benched for Trask
    8. Win versus Tennessee (4-5)

  22. Mike Johnson Says:

This team of ours is a C plus at best. We have no pass rush and the O line is very weak at times. And if Todd Bowles does not finish with a winning season, (and he won’t) he and his entire staff is gone. The only one left will be the smiling Mr. Licht.

  23. Bradley Brown Says:

All bets are off when it’s a game for the division lead. The Buccaneers are not yet good enough to cash in on a home field advantage game. Hard to pinpoint exactly where they failed. Did any national sports writer even predict they would be three and three after the first six games? Tampa Bay won the division last year with an 8-9 record.

  24. ChiBuc Says:

“At this point we need some luck because sometimes “it’s better to be lucky than good”

Three turnovers on the goal line by Ridder was pretty lucky. Luck doesn’t seem to be helping much

  25. NE Fan Says:

Bradley, Bowles sat Brady and gave away the final Atlanta game, pretty sure that would have been a W if not the Ole Mighty One didn’t put the breaks on.

  26. Rod Munch Says:

    Bradley Brown Says:

    ———-

I’m not sure how many do game-by-game picks, but I will say back in May I predicted them to be 3-3 at this point, and to get blown out by the Bills, and Mayfield would get benched. I said the team would get out to a hot start, be the talk of the NFL, then fall off a cliff as they ending the season 5-12.

    Ouch.

    Let’s hope I’m wrong.

And the one reason for hope is that I thought Mayfield would mostly be awful – and he’s only been truly awful these last two games. With his career basically on the line, he needs to have the game of his life on Thursday. We shall see, but I’d rather be wrong than sit through an entire meaningless 5-12 or 6-11 season.

  27. DJB Says:

Hey Shake and Bake is undefeated in his career against the Bills. He is 1-0 against them. . . hahaha
