Critical Time For Todd Bowles

October 22nd, 2023

Team Glazer could be planning a new course in five days.

Head coach Todd Bowles is in a very tough spot right now after today’s gut-punch loss at home to the Falcons. He might want to ice down his pants before sitting on that hot seat.

Yeah, the Bowles seat is hot. The Bucs have lost three in a row at home and three out of four after starting the season 2-0. They started last season 2-0 and struggled their way after that.

But Bowles’ current condition is about a lot more than the team’s record at 3-3. The defense, his fifth-season defense, isn’t good enough to overcome the bumbling offense of Bowles’ handpicked offensive coordinator, Dave Canales.

That’s a really bad look to ownership. No aspect of the Bucs is “great” right now, outside of their top-two wide receivers.

The Bucs have scored just 103 points in six games — 17.1 points per game. Under Mike Glennon at quarterback in the miserable 2013 season, the Bucs averaged 18.0 points per game — with perhaps half the talent of the current Bucs offense.

Bowles wants to run the ball, but the Bucs’ running backs remain worst in the NFL after another shoddy showing today.

Next up is Buffalo on Thursday night. It’s no “must-win” for the Bucs, but it’s a must-win for Bowles to keep Team Glazer from ordering Uber Eats and having a long hard talk about the head coaching job in 2024.

Trust Joe. Owners hate losing at home and they hate not being able to know their team’s on-field identity.

If anyone knows the Bucs’ identity after this game, please enlighten Joe in the comments.

F THIS EXCREMENT OF A TEAM

    PATHETIC SHOWING AT HOME.

  2. Simeon Says:

No way they win in Buffalo

  3. StormyInFl Says:

Fire Toilet Bowles. He never should have been gifted a job he was clearly not qualified for.

  4. Rod Munch Says:

I’m sorry guys, but this season is going exactly as predicted.

Hot start, would lose this very winnable game which is part of a long losing streak on the way to a 5-12 or 6-11 team.

Good news is that the Bears won today, and the Bucs play the Panthers twice, so they’re not out of the #1 overall pick talk yet.

  5. Mike C Says:

Team was so focused it ” gave me chills” what a bunch of BS!

  6. Bee Says:

Bowles will coach us to a mid to high pick for the next coaching staff…and maybe GM?

  7. August 1976 Buc Says:

AND BAKER CRITICAL TIME, guts and passion are needed yes, but so is smart play. the last 2 weeks show why Baker was cut loose by 3 teams. Just not smart or good play, along with the batted balls, which he leads the league in.

  8. Mike Johnson Says:

Are we in the running for that Qb Caleb? I hope so.

  9. StormyInFl Says:

Their identity is a boring-ass, poorly coached team. Like their incompetent head coach.

  10. Marine Buc Says:

I’m ready for a new coaching unit. Hire the best Offensive Coordinator in the NFL.

I can’t handle watching this offense for another effing game.

    WORST OFFENSE IN THE NFL.

  11. RuKa Says:

I disagree Joe! Their identity is very clear: it is the identity of the Head Coach. That is the real problem! Is not that we don’t have an identity, we have the WRONG ONE!!!

  12. D-Rok Says:

Arians GAVE this team an identity. Bowles has not. It’s as simple as that, IMO.

  13. White Dogg Says:

    Bucs identity = garbage

Their predictable runs up the middle on 30+ % of their snaps that go absolutely no where on 98% of their attempts

This may even be a little generous. But my guess is bucs finish 3rd in the division with 6-11

  14. AtlBuc Says:

The Bucs identity is as a team with a great defense but teams have to score only 14 points to win. Its officially Trask time.

  15. D-Rome Says:

The Glazer’s will be making phone calls tomorrow to start their head coaching search. They need to have a contingency plan if this season falls apart completely.

I thought this was a 6 win team. I hoped I was wrong after their 2-0 start but it’s looking like they’re proving me right.

  16. BrianBucs Says:

    Bowles needs to go.
Just not a good NFL head coach.
Bucs will never win anything with Bowles as head coach

  17. WTF? Says:

Your right Joe Thursday isn’t a must wing because the season is officially over.
No game is a must win now. ITS OVER ALREADY.

  18. Colonel Angus Says:

If they are committed to running, they gotta make a trade for a legit back. White goes down on 1st touch. He’s a good receiving back, not much else.

Are we in the running for that Qb Caleb? I hope so.

    —–

He is a truly generational talent, your Manning and Luck type of guy. Will absolutely have to have the #1 pick to get him.

Good thing is the Panthers don’t have their #1 pick, gave it to Chicago, so they have no reason to try to lose games, so if the Bucs throw both of those games, they are still in play for that #1 pick. Of course the issue will be Denver and the fact they beat the Bears, which hurts draft order if it comes to that.

  20. Jmarkbuc Says:

Arians also brought the biggest staff in the league.. and most are still
    hanging around.

And not really coaching any better.

  21. Jack Clark Says:

“Bowles wants to run the ball, but the Bucs’ running backs remain worst in the NFL after another shoddy showing today.”

The Bucs’ run blocking remain worst in the NFL*****, there I fix that sentence for you Joe. Our running backs keep getting hit before they can even cross the LOS and you keep blaming everything on them? Plus our sorry as OC can’t put up 30 points to save his life! Tell Team Glazer to STOP hiring defensive minded head coaches! We went from having a Top 5 scoring offense to the Bottom 5 worst scoring offense! SMH

If they are committed to running

    ——–

If they’re committed to the run, then they’re dumber than anyone could ever imagine. The team was built for passing, and you need a new offensive line to change that. Just wasting a pick on a new RB will literally change nothing except wasting a future pick.

  23. Mike Johnson Says:

I already tuned in my football pool for next week. I am picking my Bucs to lose in Buffalo. Sorry guys, I;m tryin to win the pool.

  24. WTF? Says:

How many losses in a row are they about to take?

    Over/under the next 3?

  25. Bosch Says:

Ryan Neal was looking at the ball when he should have getting himself in position to tackle. That is what cost the Bucs the game. Bucs defense is average at best. Front seven is top half but d backs as a group are bottom third. Poorly coached too.

  26. darengibo Says:

Bowles needs to go Led Tasso and bring out that guy!

  27. Dewey Selmon Says:

Our kicker has only missed 1 kick and that was blocked.

  28. Joe McGeehan Says:

Would it be possible to find a running back that runs with their eyes open? R. White keeps running into the backs of his blockers. The other team doesn’t even need to wrap him up, he’s standing there or has fallen already.

  29. Miller5252 Says:

Thursday is a must win against a team that will probably picked to win by 10+ points. Canales better get something figured out or his one year as OC is gonna end quick. Better address the run quick or we’re gonna have a high pick

  30. HC Grover Says:

Bring yer nose clips to the game. Someone could make money selling Mayfield nose clips in the parking lot. Let Trask take his lumps starting Thursday. He may develop well. Shorty aint the answer. He tries hard but comes up short. NFL requires a tall QB that can throw good. He aint it.

  31. Architek Says:

    IMOUT on Bowles man….

This team is bad and mediocre at best….

  32. RagingBrisket Says:

If anyone’s job should be on the line it is Licht’s. His buddy Arians coming saved his bacon or he would have been bounced 4 years ago. Licht put this starting lineup on the offensive line and they get blown up on virtually every run down. It’s recurring humiliation that he should wear alone.
Canalas sucks but he has never called plays before, not counting the teams he led in Madden. That too is on the incompetent GM. This team is going to slide down quickly to the bottom of this league. Licht needs to pay.

  33. ElioT Says:

    A lot can be said.

The team just doesn’t look like they know what they’re doing.

Brand new offensive looks like a baby deer still.

    Historically horrific running game.

Just an average to below average team.

Hold a team to 16 points with all their turnovers, you’d think you’d have a good chance to win.

  34. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Our identity is “Chokers”

  35. Since76 Says:

I think we have a bad QB. Bowles went with the experienced QB over the inexperienced QB who played better and has more upside. Bowles needs to go. For all you Blinded by love Mayfield lovers….I am not a college football fan.

  36. Bucs 95 Says:

    Pj walker 2-0 🤣🤣 and were 3-3

  37. Greg Says:

Their identity? They are a poorly coached team. THAT’S their identity.

  38. A Bucs Fan Says:

The offense is the problem. Coaching showed no confidence. Offense is regressing. Baker missed many open receivers today including Rachaad on his horrible INT. Awful buc ball.

  39. Fansince76 Says:

  41. Voice of Truth Says:

I got moderated multiple times for openly stating what we are currently watching

Todd Bowles is a pathetic excuse for a HC, a perennial loser who has NO BuSINeSs on the sideline

    FIRE TODD BOWLES!!!!!!

  42. Joe blows Says:

You clowns like what you just saw?

This team died and went back to trash the moment Brady left

Mayfield is trash. The interior o line is average at best. The RBs all suck.

SHAQ would disappear in games even in his prime years, now he disappears most games. Adds stats against trash tackles. JTS is a bust. Vea is too fat to play majority snaps. Ryan Neal is horrendous worst safety in the league.

Winfield jr is godlike and deserves a better team. Horrible team that will never have a franchise QB ever ever ever. Watching them is a waste of short and precious life.

Bowles should be fired. Watching him call and coach a defense with the game on the line is miserable. That new OC who was brought in to fix the run has the worst run offense in football. Sick!

  43. Lakeland Steve Says:

The Bucs don’t stand a chance in Buffalo on Thursday night. The lack of discipline on the Bucs with all these penalties is on the coaching staff and Bowles. The wheels may be already coming off the season.

Overall, I think it’s going to be like in the Ray Perkins era, and the Bucs might even be 3-3, before finishing 5-12. I see a huge, long losing streak start @Bills and lasting until the Jacksonville game. But I could be off on what games they lose, but my initial look at the schedule says good start, long losing streak, very annoying season.

    —————–

Wow, I said 5-12, not 6-11, so worse than I thought. I hope I’m not right, but here we are.

  45. DoooshLaRue Says:

    We have a great punter.

  46. Why Not Says:

I was impressed with the Falcons’ ability to impose their will on the Bucs with their rum game. They still have to clean up parts of their game, but they better reflect the team Bowles wants than the one he is coaching. At this point, I don’t see the team suddenly finding a running game. I know from reading the comments on this site, there a fans who blame the offensive line, fans who blame the running backs, and fans who blame the coaches (and some who blame all of the above). After today, I have concluded our line cannot run block. Atlanta’s backs were consistently getting past the line of scrimmage before getting touched by the defense. Our backs, on the other hand, run into a wall of bodies more often than not.

  47. firethecannons Says:

There will be many good quarterbacks available in next years draft. There will be many coaches also.

  48. firethecannons Says:

The amount of penalties from the o-line during run blocking is concerning

  49. Greg Says:

Anyone blaming Licht is on crack. The Bucs got stuck with Bowles by Arians when he retired late. There are only so many o lineman out there. When Jensen got hurt again that was the season. Either way though, Bowles wants to run on an offense that was built to pass. Good luck with that.

  50. TiredBucsFan Says:

Getting a college prospect qb sounds great. If this coaching staff is still here it won’t matter. They kept saying all summer, Baker won’t have to win the game himself, well, where’s the help? White? Vaughn? Bowles? Joke!

    ———-

Lead the league in punting coming into the week!

Man, must have been mixed emotions for you today. You got to listen to your all-time favorite announcer Chris Meyers, but then the Bucs lost. Tough one.

  52. BigZ Says:

This is the genesis of a full rebuild and we should not be surprised. Winners are built at the POA, the edge and A solid HC and QB. We have none of those. We need to start with a new HC, and Caleb,Phenix, or Maye. This will require more losses which are likely. Then rebuild the OL, starting at center.

  53. HeavyE Says:

    It’s just Embarrassing!!!!

  54. TiredBucsFan Says:

Bowles should have been fired last year. We all know it.

  55. Pelsbuc61 Says:

I’ll say it until he’s gone. This team developed the identity of Bowles. Soft , conservative and lifeless. Bowles is not a HC (he’s not even a good DC anymore), Canales is clueless and learning on the job and Licht is back to be the crappy GM he was before Brady showed up. This team needs a fire sale. Get rid of Evans, White, JTS, Dean and let’s see what we have in Trask. Shame on the players, coaches and front office for putting that excrement on the field.

  56. HC Grover Says:

Fact…we are not going to win the division now….so put Trask in and se how he do,

  57. Jack Clark Says:

Where is Defense Rules to justify this bull$h#t with stats?

  58. ModHairKen Says:

They will win next week. And everyone will celebrate.

  59. SBucs Says:

It’s time to clean both Todd and Jason out.

  60. Rod Munch Says:

I think the most important thing we can take from today is that Taylor Swift is at the Chiefs game, which means her and Travis are still entangled in an adulterous relationship, and God will punish them and the entire city celebrating that forication. Wait and see.

  61. Todd Rolls Says:

  64. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

Sucks – if we are to lose to a pissed Bills team at their house, almost hope Baker craps the bed so that we can move on and see what Trask can do. Then draft a new exciting QB if needed. Just don’t want to keep doing this crap.

    ———-

Defense Rules might be a communist sympathizer who wants to silence anyone he disagrees with, but I appreciate the effort he puts into his stats. Not that he always takes the correct lessons from those numbers (he once told me Ryan Smith and Chris Conte were both good starters), but he does have some good numbers from time to time that I don’t see anywhere else.

    So leave him alone!

  67. seandonjuan24 Says:

TODD is a JOKE and the players won’t follow him, it’s all talk

    This season is over

    6 wins max

  76. Winny Testaverde Says:

Bowles was/is a bandaid stuck on The Bucs by BA. Better than LeftFoot I suppose. “Can Do” Canales completely mismanaged the clock on the final drive. Took little to no time off the clock…allowed The Falcones to keep their timeouts which came in awfully handy with the matador defense called on the final drive.

We all got our hopes up a bit…me included…but reality is back, baby. Next and final chapter? “Circling The Bowels” like a muddy Baby Ruth.

  77. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

I think we might luck into another couple victories, because teams will overlook us. There are at least 3 good QBs coming out this year – Williams, Maye and Penix. I hope we can land one of them. Baker and Trask = no bueno. Come to think of it, we have a lot of no bueno on our team. Does anyone want to spend 20 million to resign White? I would seriously consider a fire sale on this team before the trade deadline in about a week.

  78. David Says:

I have been saying all along, Fire GM, Toilet Bowl and Baker. Bucs should have blown out for the second consecutive at home if Falcons qb didn’t fumble the bowl three times with two in end zone.

Baker now has thrown 8 TD to 4 Int’s. He has thrown one pick in three games in a row. Throwing pick at the worst possible time.

Also Toilet Bowl not running the ball on the last drive and trusting Baker to throw instead allowing Falcons to save their two time outs.

Get blown out by good teams and lose to bad team is recepie to dismiss GM, HC and QB.

  79. YucsBucsYucs Says:

It’s a shame we don’t have a bunch of Antoine Winfields

I remember going to games as a kid, and we’d walk around the stadium and just look for someone yelling ‘free tickets’. I know the news always ran with the people that would leave tickets on their car under the wipers, but I never saw that. But I did see people literally yelling, ‘free tickets’ and would ask you how many you needed and just give you some. Now, as an adult, I wonder if that was people with the team just trying to fill up the place for TV.

  84. Nprbuc Says:

Bowles needed “his guys” to be successful. Well, he has them and what da ya think? Our identity is Bowles. Our HC can’t set the edge, stop chunk plays coach fundamental tackling skills, get a pass rush home from down linemen, LBs, edge rushers, etc. Defensive Guru? Atlanta showed them up except for a couple of crucial fumbles, none on their side of the ball. I don’t even know the Falcons DC but he sure out coached our Guru. Identity? Confused, under coached, penalty sloppy. Pick any crappy verb and you have our Identity.

  85. BucU Says:

Dave Canales is a good used car salesman.

  86. Rod Munch Says:

It stinks because I really like Bowles as a DC, and he could have stuck around like Monte Kiffin and been here forever. But they have to hand out HC gigs to people that suck at being a HC, and now they have to fire him after the season since no one can be demoted for some dumb reason.

But Bowles will get fired, and will go somewhere else and be a quality DC for the next 15 years, where as if they didn’t give him this job, they could have kept him for a very long time.

  87. Jack Clark Says:

Anyways, I blame the offensive line

  88. Voice of Truth Says:

I am thinking the Bills score 28 by halftime, 28-6 with Baker leading the way to two solid field goal drives out of 6 tries

Down 42-9 later in the 4th, Kyle Trask quietly enters the game

At 3-4, in the Toads’ last ditch coaching effort, he names Trask the starter, but also tells the OC to slim down the deep throws to “play it safe”…

At 3-9, the Glazers for the first time in their History, can the coach during the season

Canales is named the interim HC and goes 3-2 in his 5 game “ tryout” but gets passed over for the HC job in 2024

    That goes to……………

Tune in next time on As the Bucs Turn

  89. TonySoprano Says:

Bowles and Canales insist on making this a running team but those haven’t been the types of players Licht has been drafting. It’s like they don’t talk. Every player on the offensive line was a tackle in college. We don’t have any true roadgraders, especially on the interior.

  90. Jason m Says:

Already looking towards the 2024 draft. What a bummer

  91. Hodad Says:

Bowles isn’t going anywhere. This team is playing like everyone said they would. Questions on the O line, bad RBs, and a journeyman QB. It’s not all Bowles fault, this roster is lacking, and is overrated with players like Devin White, Davis among others.

  92. Tye Says:

as a HC, Todd is straight TRASH!

It’s a shame this tech social media attracts a lot of sh1t on here. God forbid, Bucs win Thursday night. They do, oh boy. Canales has got to get it straight in his head all the versatile receivers he has. It’s across the board including the RBs. He and BM need to have a serious pow-wow about it. Screw the traditional running game. He doesn’t need it. Use it as a decoy.

  97. Jason m Says:

Also have to start looking at our Oline coaches as the problem nobody mentions that. I mean they were the coaches for the worst running game in the league last year and they are the ones coaching the Oline and the worst running game this year.

So all offseason I said this team reminds me of the Ray Perkins Bucs, in particular the 1990 Bucs, who started out 3-2, but finished 6-10. That team fired Ray Perkins during the season, and promoted WR coach Richard Williamson, who went 1-2… and then the Bucs GAVE him the HC job! Shockingly enough they went 3-13 the next year, and Williams was fired.

It is time to see what we have in Trask as early as Texans game. He deserves to play after sitting out for two tears behind Tom B. The Toilet Bowl and Baker experiment is over. Three straight losses at home with next few games on the road. It is so sad for us the Bucs fans.

  109. Miller5252 Says:

There were a lot of open holes for White to run through today. One play he could have ran right or left to an open hole and ran into the center instead. White does pretty good catching in the open field but he can’t see a hole to save his life

  110. orlbucfan Says:

So all offseason I said this team reminds me of the Ray Perkins Bucs, in particular the 1990 Bucs, who started out 3-2, but finished 6-10.

  113. donuts Says:

I agree with Joe…with Arians we were no risk it – no biscuit. I am confused with Bowles methodology…its just no risk it…and lose games.

  114. Faspro Says:

    Chargers-Chiefs game is good

  115. Bojim Says:

Mayfield plays hard. Not gonna see Trask for a while. Now they’ll lose confidence. TB should let Canales run the offense and STF up. Running sucked as usual. Run blocking sucked. Defense had to stay on the field too much. But no excuse for letting the Falcons run all over them. They didn’t even need Robinson today.

  116. TonySoprano Says:

Everything about our offense seems slow. The snap, the time it takes Baker to drop back, time to find a receiver, wind up and throw. The plays seem long developing, even the running plays. We really only have 2 fast guys on offense- one weighs 150 LBs and the other averages more penalties than catches per game

  117. K_bassuka Says:

I knew it from the get go that Maybefield wasn’t the answer and he is the main reason why the offense has played like 💩. I said it then and I will say it again, Barker Maybefield is going to destroy this team if they keep starting him. He is not a franchise QB or a good QB for that matter one can say that he is just a little bit better than Tebow and that’s just not good.

  118. Bobby Says:

Todd Bowles made some bad coaching decisions in today’s game. Remember when the Bucs made got the ball back on offense at near end of 1st half. Bucs get on Offense with 17 seconds and 3 timeouts remaining till end of second quarter. Instead of trying to move the ball downfield to get a field goal or touchdown in that moment. Todd Bowles decides to have Baker and the offense kneel and waste the timeouts and 17 seconds to go into the locker room and halftime. Horrible coaching decision by Todd Bowles. Past 3 seasons with Tom Brady here and seasons with Bruce Arians before that, Bucs would try and put points on the board right before halftime. Todd Bowes is too conservative on offense. He coaches not to lose the game instead of coaching to win the game!!!! I’ve seen enough of the Todd Bowles experiment now. Todd and Dave Canales are too conservative. Baker thew 2 boneheaded interception when the receivers aren’t open. The Bucs offense was horrible with penalties today. There must have been about 10 false start penalties. Penalties, turnovers and calling a game too conservatively is what lost this very winnable game today. Stupid decisions by the Todd Bowles snd Dave Canales and Baker Mayfield. Baker needs to run around more too. He was too hesitant to run on majority of plays today.

  119. donuts Says:

Is it no risk it…might as well Trask it time?

  120. Mike S Says:

Lost 3 of 4 going into a salty Bills team.

  121. Defense Rules Says:

When the Bucs win, everyone is convinced we’re Super Bowl bound. When they lose, it’s ‘fire Bowles’. Y’all sound like a bunch of whiners. I know this is ‘just football’, but if it was a war the question would be ‘How do we FIX IT?’ In some cases people get fired (wrong folks in charge). In other cases, there’s a LOT more to it, and things won’t get better unless you figure out what those other things are.

Panthers fired a bunch of folks after going 7-10 last season, but ending the season by winning 4 of their last 6 games & playing some pretty good football. The result of those firings? They’re now 0-6 and spiraling down. They never addressed the REAL problems and now they’re paying for it.

Bucs’ offense has several problems as we’ve all seen. It starts IMO with Baker Mayfield isn’t the answer at QB. Have no idea if Kyle Trask is, but I’ve seen enough at this point to say ‘Let’s see what we’ve got in Trask’. And if he stinks up the joint, then start John Wolford. Have also seen enough of White & Vaughn trying to run the ball. Part of the problem may be run blocking, but a bigger part is those 2 being below average runners.

And yes, Jason Licht IS part of the problem. He staffed this fiasco and he’s the one who’ll need to fix that staffing issue. We’ve got until Oct 31st to find a friggin RB. Trade, scan the Practice Squads, grab a FA couch potato, I don’t care. Fix it. And if he happens to come across a real TE, grab him too.

Is that enough stats for you Clark? If you read this far, time to crawl back under the bridge.

  122. K_bassuka Says:

When are we getting the weekly “Maybefield is on pace for…” post Joe?

I think you missed last weeks and don’t want you to miss it again.

  123. orlbucfan Says:

Hey joes, get with it. Bucs lost cos Canales still hasn’t totally adjusted to all the receivers he has. Use the running game as a decoy. The other major factor is the refs, Bucs have to be coached to OUTSMART them.

  124. Allbuccedup Says:

Sad part the Falcons are not very good. The game should not have come down to a last second FG three fumbles by Ridder otherwise it would not have been close. Bowles 4th down and 6 close to midfield going for it early in the game set the tone.

  125. NJBUCS Says:

Time to step in as a HC and say let’s run the ball here even if we don’t get in the end zone. Use some clock make them use timeouts. Where is this guy’s decision making? Add in the early go for it on 4 and 3 bad coaching game all around.

  126. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Bobby, don’t forget Bowels decision to go for it on 4th and 6 around the 50 in the 1st quarter. You’ve got the best punter in the league, no offense to speak of and you go for it at home in that situation? Instant momentum for the Falcons. Bowels must go! Many of the unmotivated players must go! We need 53 Winfields. He’s about the only guy who really seems to give a sh*t, at least based on play.

  127. Scott Says:

    Todd’s Defense sucks!!!

  128. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

DR – you’re probably the best poster here. Keep it up.

We are just not good, and collapsing for a potential star QB might be the best move for the organization. Going 6-11 with Baker certainly isn’t the best move.

  131. Danbucsfan Says:

White is horrible, looks like he has no vision and just runs into tacklers instead of try and make a cut and illude them. However he does enjoy going east and west as if he has more speed than anyone on the field. Go bucks!

  132. NE Fan Says:

This guy is responsible for Tom Brady’s only losing season in 23 seasons, that is NOT a coincidence. He possibly caused the Bucs their 3rd SB. He is a losing HC period. NOT hard to figure that out. The O has talent especially at WO, surely better than Atlanta. Sorry folks the common denominator is TB!

  133. The old salty Chief Says:

I believe we are still in CAP jail as second to left. We leveraged allot to
get Tom and Gronk and the team which was of course worth it as 2020
was a awesome year. Because of our limited cap space we had to go to Walmart and ended up with Mayfield. I am not sure where we will be for 24 with respect to dead cap space. I am a native and have always loved this team but I think
we are in for a couple of bad years. Whoever the GM will be next year will have some significant challenges. And yes I think the HC needs to go. I think Bowles alloyed Byron to take the bullet when it was Bowles show to run.

  134. Bucs Fan Since ‘76 Says:

The Bucs are looking like they should look. Retread coach does the retread coach thing by bringing in a retread QB and starting him over the riskier guy, and handing the keys to the offense to a long time assistant coach who not only had no coordinator experience but had never called a freaking play in his life!

  135. MelvinJunior Says:

I agree with literally, EVERYTHING “Defense Rules” said right there, 100!!!! Including on the Carolina Panthers… Dude Was NEVER Given A Real CHANCE. And, it was really AMAZING how they all came together and rallied around one another with how well they played down the stretch… With a horribly depleted roster, too. That interim dude DESERVED that job… He PROVED-IT. And, the players were PI$$ED over it, too!!!! But, prob THE ‘Dumbest’ thing they ever did tho, was trade up with the Bears for that #1-PICK… HORRIBLE. Just. STUPID. Sooooo Stupid. Especially, KNOWING you were also, giving up a potential Top-5/10 PICK at a minimum, the very next season… And, in a LOADED QB draft-class to boot and giving up ALL THAT future ‘high-end’ draft capital when you’re ENTIRE squad is 💯 depleted, etc. The Ignorance. For a mig? It’s mind-blowing. The Bears just straight-up FLEECED THEM!!!! Wish we could find a team THAT dumb to deal some of these guys to. And, that’s what we need to do IMMEDIATELY, if we get our doors blown off again, on Thursday Night… Only deal with middle of the road teams with real strong remaining schedules, & hope they completely, CRASH!!!!

  136. Destinjohnny Says:

Man if u give any coach 2 guards and center that can’t run block
You have no offense and can’t win, end of story no matter the coach

  137. Cobraboy Says:

@DR: no casual whiner here. I have stated early on that a team takes on the personalty of the HC, and in this case passive.

I expect more bad football going forward.

After all, it’s a Bowles team. We’ve stunk the place up with decent talent his entire tenure.

But agree on Mayfield, but I don’t blame him. The C and G’s are plain bad, but I’ll cut Mauch some rook slack.

Canales is a failure as an OC. Lots and lots of talk and social media posts…but stinky results.

It is not over, and I predict it will get worse, now there is film on how to beat the Bucs: crash the middle of the OL on defense, and grind them into the ground on offense.

That game should have been 34-17. On the field, it wasn’t even close.

Hey! Glad your still alive 😂 Your sorry as team is still ranked #29th according to the official NFL website btw. Now let’s talk about your loser of a head coach without Tom Brady

  139. Cobraboy Says:

I’m looking at a 5 win season at best. This team could be 3-8 in five weeks.

Time to consider some trades (Evans? To go out with a winner? White?) to stockpile picks and get into the Caleb Williams sweepstakes.

  140. MelvinJunior Says:

I will guarantee you that Bowels is thinking… See, even when I DO go for-it they’re NOT happy and are going to complain, Etc. LoL. NOOOOOO… There’re right and wrong (calls) times, and 4th & 6 at midfield (at home) on the very opening drive of the game (with THIS offense, Etc.), in THE NFL especially, is absolutely, NOT it. I bet he was ‘thinking’ I’m going to show them that I Can Be Aggressive, Too LoL… And, I bet he was watching COLLEGE Football all day yesterday, and seeing coaches doing it left and right, Etc. Lmao. Ahead decided THEN, that imma come out tomorrow, and show them Hahahah. HE Clearly, Doesn’t Get-It. 💯

  141. NE Fan Says:

Jack, no argument here, time for BB to beat feet. They did beat the Bill’s today and play in the toughest division that has to count for something. Beating the Bill’s today is the worst thing that could have happened to the Bucs because the option of a let down game is not a reality any longer.

  142. confido1975 Says:

The only issue I see is an offense that can’t score. This whole offense is supposed to be a mix of steady run and play action. Licht and Bowles put too much trust in the personnel they have to execute Canales offense. BM needs a solid run game to be a successful QB. He is not that caliber of QB to carry an entire team. With the cap issues the Bucs have not much can be done to fix the issues at this point. Predictions were for a .500 team at best and its looking like that will be the case.

  143. NE Fan Says:

FYI Jack, Belichick still believes a QB in this league is just as easily replaced as a offensive guard. He values Defense at the expense of his offense (sound familiar), NOT a winning formula in today’s NFL, a QB is everything, the Trent Dilfer, Joe Flacco days are over.

  144. PewterStiffArm Says:

You know what, to be honest, I really don’t care. You get excited and as a fan you have no control of the outcome Sunday after Sunday. By the way, the Buffalo Bills just lost to the lowly New England Patriots. How pissed off do you think they are going to be Thursday night? Final score: Bill’s 36, Buc’s 11.

  145. Bee Says:

Once again Defense Rules nails it.

This team needs to keep the young talent and start over.

  146. Defense Rules Says:

Cobraboy … ‘It is not over, and I predict it will get worse, now there is film on how to beat the Bucs: crash the middle of the OL on defense, and grind them into the ground on offense.’

Cobra you’re the farthest thing from a whiner. You’re one of JBFers whose comments on everything-football that I really appreciate (and there are many other JBFers who’ve been here for a long time like StPete, Pickgrin, Hodad and too many others to name).

For the foreseeable future (next 5 games), I probably agree with you that it’ll get worse. Four games on the road is gonna be tough. I’d love to see us win 2 of those 5, but I’m not sure that I’m even that optimistic after what I saw today. I do believe though Cobra that if you keep doing what you’ve been doing, chances are you’ll keep getting the same results you’ve been getting. Bucs need to shake things up some.

The defense getting chewed up on the ground in the 2nd half pisses me off. Far too many big runs. I kept focusing on Devin White in the middle, and what I kept seeing on play after play was 1-2 blockers taking him completely out of the play. Falcons were going between the tackles on every run play it looked like, and on far too many we let them get some big yardage. Not impressed.

  147. TonySoprano Says:

Some blame needs to be directed at Licht. People keep saying we have a ton of talent, yet we have gaping deficits at edge rush, offensive line, TE, RB, safety, QB.

The way I see it, our only true, proven talent is Vea, LvD, Winfield, Wirfs, Evans and Godwin. Everyone else is JAG, unproven or overpaid.

When Toad gets fired, I wonder if Licht will be spared. How many GMs make it through 5 coaching regimes?

  148. Defense Rules Says:

Jack Clark … ‘Yes, yes… let the hate flow through you and give into the dark side.’

  155. Bobby Says:

Here is an idea? Just putting out there to see what the responses are…I know the Pats beat the Bills today. That’s a very good win for them. I suspect that will not continue happening for remainder of season though. Regardless I suspect Belichick is still on the hotseat. We have Jason Licht here who is connected from his Patriot days. What if the opportunity arises for Bill to come here with Jason still as the GM???? But we need to have an good OC to go with Belichick. I bet the Glazers would be licking there chops if the opportunity rises to get Bill Belichick as your next Tampa Bay Buccaneers HC. Hopefully things improve for Bowles and the Bucs this season. If not though, this scenario I’ve presented could be interesting. Let’s Go Bucs!!!

  156. NE Fan Says:

Jack, never said you had better coaching. Bowles if horrible, he actually managed to lose with Tom Brady. Don’t blame the oline because Brady didn’t always have a good line and never the best receiving core. Belichick still has the D mind that can take down a Bill’s team, Bowles, not so much. Belichick will go to a team like the Chargers and fix their D and take them deep into the playoffs. Bowles will be mopping floors at Jiffy Lube.

  157. R. Strader Says:

Slandering others is a sin in God’s eyes. I have never seen so many mean- spirited nasty personal attacks.

Mayfield played his but off. But it baffles me that the Glazers and Jason Licht don’t go get a. big running back to comlement White.
Did Lenny Fournette insult Glazer’s wife? Whats up?They
could have inked him for low price.

But be kind, fans. It’s embarrassing.

  158. Mike S Says:

    R. Strader trask looked damn good in preseason. Its not about whether he’s ready – its about Bowles having his guy start.

  159. Jeffrey M Says:

Bowles is just Arians “sloppy seconds” We all know how that works. Glazers need to either grow some cahones and get a real general manager or sell the team to someone who gives a rip. Bowles is ready for his 5th straight losing season as a HC and if you take away Brady’s 2 yrs as GM…Licht is just a shade above Mark Domenik 38.1% to 35%. Oh… and Caleb Williams is fools gold..j
    ust saying

  160. Crazyhorse54 Says:

I thought the offensive game plan vs. Minnesota was creative and fun. That certainly ended quick. Haven’t seen a bit of creativity, just run the middle and off tackle and throw to incompetent running backs. What is happening to this team?

  161. Statguy Says:

The falcons have 3 running backs better than our starter. Who is just a glorified third down back they are trying to ground and pound in a tim Tebow offense with.

  162. Statguy Says:

Strader, fournette asked for his release and the bucs granted his wish

  163. Les Says:

Wow ,what a stinker of a game .poorly coached ,not ready to play .watched enough football in my life to know this coaching staff sucks balls ! We were built to pass with Brady in a passing league !! We are NOT a running team bowles no matter how hard or stubborn you want to be .it’s not happening ! Not happening . Your season is done ! Try something new !! This offense is a lose at buffalo .and a lose at 49 ers ! Maybe even Texas . We need a coach who is feared not loved .do your damn job or get out !

  164. AtlBuc Says:

This offensive production is the result of starting the loser of a QB competition. Baker’s numbers in the preseason are similar to his numbers now. He had 106 yards passing compared to Trask’s 509.
I warned Bowles not to rely on Baker to save his career. After losing to a desperate Bills team it will be time to hand over the reins to Trask. IF our goal is to make it to the playoffs. If we’re trying to get Caleb, keep things as they are.
The fastest way to improve our run game would be to push the ball down the field consistently, something Baker is not too good at doing.
We also need a QB who can see and throw over the Dlinemen.

  165. R. Strader Says:

Status. That doesn’t matter. They can still make a call to see if he’s interested now, if he hasn’t already signed with Buffalo.
But just bring in a big strong back. Whoever it may be.

  166. Rod Munch Says:

Man, I think Defense Rules is ignoring me. I defend him, literally say I like his stats, and I don’t get a thank you or anything. Wow, talk about ungrateful.

  167. Jack Sparrow Says:

Bowles/Canales combo is as bad as Bowles and Leftnut….. no imagination, no creativity and have no clue as to what they are doing on the field.

  168. MelvinJunior Says:

“Jack Sparrow” – YES. They make a horrible Team together, HORRIBLE. There could not be a WORSE match. Licht must be held accountable for it. Bottom line. It is what it is. Ya know, I couldn’t even tell you WHO our Defensive Coordinator even is, or IF we even have one, or not!? LoL

  170. JN Says:

Where are all the idiots who vote “HIGH CONFIDENCE” in your weekly poll? He stinks. This offense stinks and it’s going to cost Bowles his job. By Thanksgiving this team will be 4-7… if they are lucky.
