Chris Godwin Is No Kevin Kiermaier

October 26th, 2023

Almost.

Oh, what could have been.

The Bucs stunk tonight with the exception of the fourth quarter when they damn near pulled out a miracle.

If only Chris Godwin would have turned around!

The Bucs, apparently thinking NFL games are six quarters, ran off damn near the entire fourth quarter it seemed huffing and puffing downfield to get within a touchdown of the Bills, thanks to a crazy catch by Mike Evans.

The defense held the Bills for the fourth consecutive drive (!) and the Bucs got the ball back with 21 seconds left.

Still, the Bucs moved the ball with three plays and a penalty and got one final shot, a Hail Mary. And Baker Mayfield damn near completed it for the winning score.

The pass from Mayfield actually hit the end zone turf without being touched. For some reason, Godwin had his back turned to the ball. When he did turn around, he didn’t have enough time to react and the ball landed just to his right.

It would have been easier than catching a punt for Godwin. Oh, man.

At least the Bucs showed heart tonight, albeit way too late. Next time guys, act like there is some urgency and for crying out loud. Pay attention to the clock — and a Hail Mary that is in midair.

Simply put, Godwin is not a center fielder.

    Sandlot BS football

    đź’© fire Bowles đź’©

  2. Red86 Says:

If Uncle Rico played better for first three quarters, then we might not need a Hail Mary.

  3. BangkokBuc Says:

    Fire Bowels!!!

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Do they just not call pass interference on a hail mary? Mike was pushed around while the ball was in the air.

  5. Rod Munch Says:

“Godwin had his back turned to the ball.”

And why was that Joe? Because was just grabbed by the Buffalo defender and spun in a circle, he had no idea where the ball was because of that. How do people watch that play and not see that clear as day.

Meanwhile Evans was literally being held by three Buffalo defenders.

Could have called PI on any of the guys involved there – not that they would, and it’s not like Mayfield wasn’t repeatedly bailed out the series before. So not complaining about the non-call there. But it’s ridiculous to watch that play and think Godwin was just being lazy or dumb or not something like that.

  6. Couch Fan Says:

I like to win as much as anybody but a fluke win would be just as bad as a blow out loss.

  7. FortMyersDave Says:

Again. Contact Harbaugh’s agent. Contact any other potential candidate. Bowels has proven he is nothing more than an average DC.

  8. Frank Pillow Says:

Maybe the play that epitomizes what being a fan of this team is all about. I mean 6 wasn’t great again tonight, but he went down swinging. Hard to say the same about the stud WRs. POST-UP! That’s it. Post and rebound. What was 13 doing on that play? Where were the Smurfs? This team needs an enema!

  9. Jaybuc Says:

I’m not one to complain, because honestly we should’ve lost and by much more, but Cade otton was literally sandwiched between two bills players. It was such an obvious penalty but I guess the bills are one of the nfl’s darling teams

  10. George R Says:

Joe, I disagree. The Bucs did not play with heart. They were beat worse than the score shown. Baker was late on a number of throws. We don’t even get close if it wasn’t for 2 4th down penalties to keep the drive alive.

  11. unbelievable Says:

Godwin got turned around by a defender. Would have been pass interference if it wasn’t the last play / a Hail Mary.

Mike Evans also mugged by like 3 defenders.

Even Cade Otton got interfere with.

Refs could have easily called PI on like 5 different people. But didn’t.

Doesn’t matter. Bucs deserved to lose. You play like a bunch of pathetic losers for 3,5 quarters, you deserve to lose.

  12. Vea Second Stomach Says:

Yes Joe, he should have caught that while spinning in circles from being tossed around by bills defenders. Evans should have caught it to but he was to busy in a WWE match with three bills defenders. How no one talks about the play the bucs should have had on the one yard line after that whole fiasco is bull.

  13. unbelievable Says:

At least the Bucs showed some heart tonigh

    Bahahahahahahahahahahaha!

    Thanks for the laugh Joe.

Bucs played pathetic tonight. No idea wtf game you were watching.

  14. I’m tired and 87 is right Says:

Joe don’t fall into the narrative of what they want everyone to believe. The game was never close and we lost it before the half when we didn’t go for it. Simple as that. NFL is rigged. I’m just glad we won a SB with Brady recently. That all being said we can win the next 5 games but we have to start with benching Neal, and starting Stinnie. Can’t play to lose the game. It’s time we play with confidence. In other words we can score more than 20 points a game. Not that hard. Go Bucs!

  15. Joe Says:

Joe don’t fall into the narrative of what they want everyone to believe. The game was never close and we lost it before the half when we didn’t go for it.

Bucs sucked for 3.25 quarters. Fought their tails off, but it was too late. Grave already dug.

And man, if Godwin had only not turned his back we’re celebrating a win.

  16. Derek Says:

The refs didn’t want the fan backlash in Buffalo

  17. Rod Munch Says:

    Joe Says:
And man, if Godwin had only not turned his back we’re celebrating a win.

    ————–

OK, now Joe is just screwing with us to get a reaction! LOL!

  18. unbelievable Says:

Godwin was spun around by a defender committing pass interference.

LOFL at blaming him, and not the inept coaching staff, pathetic o-line play, or terrible quarterbacking from Mayfield.

You could not be more wrong about this one.

  19. Capt.Tim Says:

    Heart doesnt win
    Talent wins
And this team is horribly lacking.

  20. Canabuc Says:

Fact is this offense is trash.
    It starts with the line.
No push in the run game
    Multiple drive killing penalties…..
Baker is not good in the pocket. He can’t see and balls tipped or batted down….
I think while some may think it’s too early. Might be time to see what we have inTrask.
Baker missed alot of throws tonight.

  21. Red86 Says:

Lots of if. But, the reality is Baker isn’t the guy. Late throws. Missing open receivers just to throw questionable passes. Footwork look like dance dance revolution.

  22. Rod Munch Says:

Wait, am I being gaslighted on this one? The way I remember it happening is Godwin is literally hooked an spun by a Buffalo defender, and in slow motion it sure looked like Evans, who was literally being held by three Buffalo defenders was yelling the ball was coming at Godwin, who was just coming out of the forced spin, and he looks up and back just as the ball goes over him.

But you’re telling me what really happened is Godwin ran to the endzone, never turned around, never got his head around, never looked up and just stood there as the ball landed right where his hands should have been?

Humm… but I just don’t remember it happening that way.

  23. I’m tired and 87 is right Says:

My point is the game should have never gotten to this point. This game reminded me of the Falcons game were we just played patty cake like we think we are good. Just play the game! it’s us against the world. Get that in your mentality and ball out. That’s when the Bucs will dominate. Go Bucs!

  24. Capt.Tim Says:

    And Godwin didnt get “spun”.
    He wasnt watching.
Evans and Godwin both disappeared in the 4th quarter.
Other than a pass that deflected into Evans gut, where he COULDNT drop it.
Otherwise- odds are its yet another of his many drops this year.

This team, coach, and front office failed Tom Brady.
    Now Mayfield.
They deserve to lose, and a bunch get either traded or fired.

Shoulda happened last year. Gotra happen this year.

  25. Lakeland Steve Says:

Yes, Mike Evans was definitely interfered with in the end zone on the final play with three defenders literally pushing him backwards while the ball is in the air, but unless they rip someone’s head off their body the refs just don’t call anything on the hail mary’s at the end of games. The Bucs got what they deserved by playing the way they did. A big fat L.

Evans and Godwin both disappeared in the 4th quarter.

    ———

LOL! Meanwhile Evans literally makes an incredible TD catch, has 80 yards in the 4th quarter, with 50 of those called back on a BS unrelated holding call… but Evans disappeared.

    Talk about clueless.

  27. unbelievable Says:

LOFL at “Evans disappeared in the 4th quarter”

Evans was wide open ALL. GAME. LONG.

Mayfield just never throw him the ball. He had like 5 targets all night. That is simply unacceptable. Mayfield, Canales and Bowles were all complete failures today. Failures since the bye week if we’re being honest.

But hey maybe we can get some more stickers about how the early bye came at just the right time! Yeah, just the right time to start sucking, apparently.

  28. Big Wally Says:

Munchkin you really need to carefully watch the replay. If anything the defender turned him to face the ball. He was clearly unaware of where the ball was or doubting mayfield would get it there.

  29. Todd Says:

    Chris was MUGGED!

    Should have been a flag.

Multiple flags against those Bills goons!

  30. m Says:

one second from a crazy win, i literally punched a wall, great hail mary by baker if chris had one second more to see the ball walk off win

  31. PSL Bob Says:

Couldn’t get to sleep last night thinking about the final Hail Mary. What a magic ending had Godwin looked up a second or two earlier.
