Baker Mayfield’s Teammates Seem To Have His Back

October 22nd, 2023

Bucs QB Baker Mayfield.

As one might imagine, Bucs fans are hot under the collar tonight and the Bucs’ locker room seemed like a wake. If anyone spoke, it was under hushed tones, whispers.

Joe predicted — and is right — that the loss unleashed the anti-Todd Bowles crowd. The loss also woke up the Cult of Kyle Trask. Some are filling up Joe’s timeline and are convinced the team is turning on Baker Mayfield and Trask will unite the club.

Joe saw no evidence of that in the locker room. But here is what Joe saw:

Mayfield was walking across the locker room still wearing his football pants some 20-30 minutes after the game. Joe guesses Mayfield was walking from the trainer’s room. He clearly had not showered.

As Mayfield meandered to his locker, Joe saw a parade of players, offense and defense, starters and backups, walking up to him fist-bumping and bro-hugging.

It sure looked to Joe that Mayfield’s teammates still have his back. That they are still on board with him.

(No, Joe did not see Trask in the locker room.)

Joe doesn’t believe Mayfield will be benched. He’s Todd Bowles’ guy. And Joe is convinced if Mayfield is benched, that is basically Bowles making a public resignation. In other words, Bowles signaling Trask in from the bullpen is a panic move, not unlike Dirk Koetter benching Jameis Winston for Ryan Fitzpatrick.

If Trask plays, that means the Bucs — possibly with a new coach — will draft a star college quarterback in April.

Can someone tell Baker it’s ok to hit the wide open check down

  2. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Losing 4 of the last 5 games as of this coming Thursday…yeah. Bye Baker.

  3. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    All new staff next year!

  4. Rod Munch Says:

Well they’d never bench him this week. But after the Bucs are blown out on Thursday, and Mayfield has another terrible game, and the Bucs have lost 4 of their last 5, with three blowouts, and the offense is averaging like 16 points (after the Bills game and the 3 points they put up) any non-insane coach would bench him.

Which means Todd will keep him in there until the team is like 4-9.

  5. Bee Says:

I saw no moxie on the last 2 drives. Baker can’t push the ball, has bad field vision and is allergic to checkdowns.

Boy Chris Brousard is gonna eat Nick Wright alive tomorrow. Chris has said that Baker will be benched by week 8 and that looks to be spot on.

  6. Trask To The Future Says:

Enough of the excuses for Baker Mayfield!

NOW is the time for the Bucs to see what they may have in Kyle Trask. He flashed his potential in training camp and it’s time to see what he can do on the field with the starters.

If Trask totally stinks it up, then YES, you look to draft a QB in April. But it would be absolutely crazy for the Bucs not to see what they have in a 2nd round draft pick.

For pete’s sake… let the guy play.

  7. TB bolts Says:

    13 points

  8. Bucnjim Says:

Not a Bowles hater but this one was on coaching. The D couldn’t contain a one dimensional team. How hard is it to stop a team where you know what they are doing? The offense had so many penalties I lost track. Atlanta has a pretty good D but that’s about it. The Bucs AGAIN lost the physical match ups and the mental part of the game was non existent.

  9. ElioT Says:

    Brutal.

    Only one game.

So much on the line, so much.

I’ve watched this team for 30 years. – same sh*t, different year.

They are going to get destroyed on Thursday night. – ask me how I know.

  10. Duane Says:

There you go again, JBF, with your incessant insults and attacks on any who are not Mayfield fanboys, as you clearly have always been, in the “See I was right about Mayfield winning the starting job” cult, led by JBF. Preferring Trask over Mayfield is a reasonable opinion, not a whack job cult position.

I preferred Trask over Mayfield, but when Mayfield was selected as the starter I wished only for his success. For the simple reason that if Mayfield succeeds, then the Bucs of whom I am a fan are more likely to succeed. But if Mayfield fails, the Bucs have a good plan B option in Kyle Trask.

I still hope Baker Mayfield succeeds, and that the Bucs succeed. His evident shortcomings are not the sole reason why the Bucs offense is failing. Plenty of other players contributed to the suck, including those players guilty of the way to numerous offensive fouls when in a home game there should have been nearly none.

  11. Zwak Says:

The guy has the heart but.. Let’s loose the rest of these games and get a young QB and a real head coach! Sorry but it is what it is..

  12. Miller5252 Says:

Trask isn’t going to change anything. Biggest effective change would just be a small running game. Too much talent on this team to play this bad and all these penalties are starting to compound. Coaches need to do their job and have a Brady come apart on some people

  13. Mike C Says:

Yeah, if not hero Ball from Winfield, and atl crapping the bed at the Bucs one yard line it could have been alot worse smh

  14. Lombardi Lenny Says:

Bowels and leftwhich robbed us of a good season last year. And what makes it even more painful was it being Brady’s last year with us.
Now Bowles and Dave C. are robbing fans this year.
It’s just terrible and pisses me off so bad.

BOWLES HAS TO BE FIRED. Who the hell would want him coaching with a college rookie QB anyways. Bowles will destroy the kid before he even has a change. He couldn’t help develop ish with a new rookie QB

  15. TB bolts Says:

The continued defense of midfield and disrespect of Trask is pathetic. Kid hasn’t even gotten a chance but joe goes to the ends of the earth making excuses for journeyman QB midfield. Defense held them to 16 points including 3 game saving take aways… maybefield throws a pick in crunch time… maybefield fails to convert in the redzone again the following drive. 1 TD. Godwin and Evans all but neglected… passes off target.. passes batted. Wife open recievers never even seen. But its everyone but maybefield… don’t worry boys he got fist bumps in the locker room… were good. Looking forward to the spanking on thursday night.

  16. Bojim Says:

The loss was far from Mayfields fault alone. Rather have him playing than Trask. And I like Trask.

  17. Bucswin Says:

Another ugly game in front of a half empty sun burnt stadium. I saw more people hanging out under the seats in the shade hiding from the sun than in their seats. Luckily Atlanta colors blend in with ours. So it didn’t look as bad as last week. Sad…

  18. Front Four Says:

Despite all the hype and a great start to the season, we are in yr 1 of a 2-3 year rebuild. We simply don’t have the talent or experience. Make Bowles the scapegoat if you want, but it’s not him. We’ve got the team we can afford. That’s it.

  19. SlyPirate Says:

Watch the team interviews (Ira has some good questions for Boyles).

    TAKEAWAYS
    1. Baker, Wirfs, White, Godwin (everyone) knows the defense is playing great and the offense is losing games.
    2. Everyone is super impressed with Winfield.
    3. Devin White is a leader.
    4. Bowles is in a bad place.

    Only one game.

    ———-

But it’s not, Mayfield was awful last week vs Detroit. The Eagles game wasn’t good either. If the Buffalo game is also terrible, which I expect, that means he’s had one good game in his last five, while the team has lost 4 of 5.

I certainly am not for benching him this week, but all the pressure should be on Baker, he should be told he’s playing for his job, I mean really pile on the pressure bigly, and let’s see what we have. If he crumbles, well, then he is what I thought. But if under that kind of pressure he has the game of his life, well, then maybe there is still hope and it buys him more time.

  22. Rod Munch Says:

I keep waiting to see the headline that says the Bucs have locked up Winfield on a 7-year deal. They need to get that done, every week his price goes up.

  23. Old School Bucs Says:

Joe, never ever forget this team is way better without Brady!!!!

  24. RagingBrisket Says:

Mayfield is no Steve Young but he is serviceable, a gamer and the least of our problems. If the offense could stop getting plundered in the trenches on run plays it would all be very different.
Licht put a bunch of lousy football players on the oline (except Wirfs, obviously) and between the penalties and repeated aas whooping on virtually every run down we can’t accomplish jack shht that we are probably decent at.
Fix the oline and everything gets better. They are like a hole in the hull and the captain is handing out umbrellas.

  25. Popcorn Mike Says:

So Joe where does this team go from here ? Same bs different Sunday. Today I heard the analyst magnify a couple of questions I have been asking the last 3 games. 1. Mayfield has a lot of passes batting down. Today one analyst said he has the most batted down passes over the pass few years in the NFL 2. I mentioned the Bucs are killing to many drives with penalties. One analyst magnified that same thing today. A matter of fact, today they had like 2 or 3 back to back penalties in one drive today’s game was just embarrassing and frustrating at the number of opportunities the Bucs had to win that game and yet they only scored 1 td. The Glazers are starting to lose fans which mean losing money so, Joe and Bucs fans please enlighten me on what comes next

  26. Hodad Says:

All I know is one TD in 8 quarters. Could Trask be any worse? If he is, we draft higher next year.

  27. Zwak Says:

Rod, you don’t think Baker is feeling the pressure? This guy has lived in nothing but pressure Sir?

  28. DBS Says:

Mike C. Winfield did what he gets paid to do. Just like the Atlanta CB did the job he gets paid to do when he intercepted Mayfield. Stop the hero BS. It is a game. Both of them could be considered heroes for their team.

  29. dbbuc711 Says:

Hate to see how bad they would play if they wanted Baker gone

  30. 1#bucsfan Says:

I said it in the last article I’m a trask fan and have bin rooting for him to win the starting job. Baker DOESNT deserve to be benched yes a terrible int in double coverage with a wide open check down is very much Winston like but he’s only made a few bad mistakes in 6 games. He’s great at avoiding the pressure and extending plays. Play calls need to be way way better. Run blocking needs to be way way better and we need a RB who can actually run the ball. White is GREAT at catching and making people miss in space not at taking a hand off and finding the holes if they are any. He has no vision. So let’s use his strengths. Use him in the passing game and go find a back that has good vision and let’s get some dam run blocking please. Pass protection is awesome.

Rod, you don’t think Baker is feeling the pressure?
    ——–

I’m sure he is, but I’d want it to be explicit – tell him this is it, his last chance, if he bombs, his career is likely over (at least as far as ever being considered a starter).

It’s going to take a spectacular performance to beat the Bills, you can’t just go up there thinking 13-16 points is enough to win. So do something different.

Arians, for example, would have no issues saying Mayfield has played like s–t the last two weeks, and he’s going to be riding the bench if he doesn’t improve dramatically. Bowles, meanwhile, he’ll say ‘the team needs to execute’ and ‘its more than one player’ and ‘we all have to do better’ and other worthless, meaningless, generic bumper sticker speak.

  32. Boss Says:

Us Trask supporters and bowls haters are having kettle corn right about now.

Told ya so. Bring on Trask!

    Bowls…. Bwahahahaha…….

Even the GOAT could not save him….he also got the other pass by blaming lefty.

Dude is hopeless. I don’t even want him as D coordinator…remove his losing, complacent culture from OBP!

  33. Thisisouryear!! Says:

I don’t honestly know who to blame for the run game. Seems like the o-line to me. But when you have 17 runs by your backs for 35 yards….That’s your problem. I’m not advocating totally scrapping the run game but I could see making half those plays screens, something to get the back into the flat.

  34. Jack Clark Says:

“As Mayfield meandered to his locker, Joe saw a parade of players, offense and defense, starters and backups, walking up to him fist-bumping and bro-hugging. It sure looked to Joe that Mayfield’s teammates still have his back. That they are still on board with him.”

I don’t blame Baker Mayfield for any of our loses because he’s not the one losing us games. I blame Dave Canales sorry as offense because he can’t teach our offensive linemen how to run block well enough for our running backs to stop getting hit in the backfield! Imagine what Baker could do if our running backs were getting over 100 rushing yards a game

  35. Trask To The Future Says:

Watch the Bucs sign Mayfield to 3-Year, $60M deal.

  36. Fansince76 Says:

    Very depressing!
The offense sucks and they do not have a running back!
The season has gone south fast.

  37. Wild Bill Says:

My take is fairly simple. The Bucs were beat worse than the final score. The run game is a glaring weakness. Baker does not look so good against teams with a strong defense. The Bucs were outplayed physically by the Falcons . The final score should have been worse than it actually was.The Bucs play decent defense, the offense sucks . Pass blocking was better than their run blocking. At this point it is hard to be optimistic. No run game and a so so pass offense is a killer.

  38. Popcorn Mike Says:

Amen Rod munch this is what I’ve been saying over and over the last week. Sometimes players have to have a fire lit under their rear ends. Meaning if they’re not playing we’ll sit them even if it’s just for 1 game it seems there is no consequences for playing bad on this team

  39. RGA Says:

I don’t think anyone would question Mayfields toughness and grit, he certainly tries hard, gives his best effort. His best effort is not that good, he’s just not that talented. He appears to be a good quality back-up QB at best in my opinion.

  40. Since76 Says:

The defenses will continue to play the run until they fear the pass. That won’t happen as long as Mayfield is your QB. He just isn’t good. Nothing against the man but the player isn’t good. This offense is worse than some I don’t want to remember. The question now is should we continue to play Baker so we get the higher draft pick or play Trask and see what he’s got and have a lower draft pick due to a better record.

  41. NE Fan Says:

I can’t blame Baker, he is who he is. After a disaster offensive 2022 with the leagues worst running attack this genius goes out and hires a OC that NEVER schemed and offense or called ONE offensive play in the NFL. Win 2 games against shatty teams and the OC is now the next coming. You were all sold a bill of.goods. This is all about power & control, make no mistake this is Bowles team, he calls the shots and hiring a green OC just confirms it.

  42. Mike S Says:

The first thing we heard was Mayfield is here because Bowles needs wins to keep his job.

So what is going to happen after the Bucs get creamed by Buffalo?

3 losses in a row and 4 out of 5 sinking to 3-4? What then huh?

This game against Buffalo is Baker’s Waterloo. He’s got to show he can throw for 3 bills and multiple TDs vs a quality team. That’s what it takes to win in the NFL.

Or else what’s the reason for starting Mayfield? Huh? Someone want to fill us in? The guy was here to stack wins – but he’s not stacking wins. Ok so now what?

It never was about Bowles wanting to stack wins enough to keep his job. It was always about Bowles putting his stamp on this team and making it about him being the HC and not just a stand-in for Arians.

Trask is a Licht-Arians QB. Tall prototype guy they thought could pick up some things from Brady and attack from the pocket on an offensive minded team.

Bowles doesn’t want that. He wants his offense to compliment his defense. He wants to manage TOP so he can keep his guys fresh. He wants old school conservative football – 3 yards and pile of dust with just enough passing mixed in to keep things honest.

Joe can’t say that though. He can’t let the cat out of the bag and admit this was never QB competition. It was always Bowles and what his perceived legacy/brand whatever is. He can, however, complain about continuing to go back to a futile and predictive run game. Joe tries to work the angles within the framework. I get it.

Funny thing now is the opposite of what Bowles intended game script is happening. Without playing with a lead the intensity on defense is dialed up and these guys get gassed and give the game away late – usually involving Neal getting toasted somehow.

This is not what this team is. Its not a road grater pound the rock team where you can run out some wiley scrambler QB to checkdown on 3rd and manageable and dominate on defense. This isn’t that squad. I love nostalgia as much as the next guy, but Mike Alstott isn’t walking through that door. Warren Sapp is doing podcast interviews these days.

This is a high flying WR rich squad that’s going to get you a lead and then blitz the eff out of you. That’s what this team is – so the right move is to strap up the 6’5″ prototype and start slinging the rock around to your big play receivers.

Its not about who’s got the locker room – the moment Trask lights up that scoreboard he’s going to get the locker room. these guys want to win. We all want them to win.

    Lol

Trask will start this year. The nice thing about starting Trask is if he is a spark in the offense it proves mayfield was the problem and every keeps their jobs another year. If you die with baker you are for sure a goner

  44. Posey99 Says:

Can we stop blaming the OC for missed wide open opportunities

  45. Popcorn Mike Says:

True NE fan Mayfield is who he is. There’s a reason he’s been with 3 different teams the pass year. I am just saying

  46. Elite Vita Says:

    I like the guy (Baker Mayfield) …however he’s :

    1) too often inaccurate
    2) too often inconsistent
    3) gets too many of his passes tipped due to his height.

On a positive note he is a snappy dresser.

  47. Texasbucsfan Says:

I would like to know where all the talent is hiding on this team. On offense you have two wide receivers, with one past his prime?? Offensive line is limited, no running backs, limited tight end , etc.

  48. K_bassuka Says:

The Bucs will have a new HC if Maybefield plays, so at least with Trask there’s hope that a miracle could happen and right about now, any QB is a better option than Barker.

  49. David Says:

Joe you are right. Toilet Bowl is not going to bench Baker which means the end of Toilet Bowl .
    Also Joe,
We did draft a star qb from Florida who has not played yet. Why are you hoping to draft another one ?

  50. Carter Says:

JOE: “the Cult of Kyle Trask”

That’s rich, coming from the biggest groupie of the Cult of Baker Mayfield. Didn’t you write an article a few days ago titled “Pro Bowl Baker Mayfield?” LMAO.

  51. Carter Says:

David Says: “Also Joe, we did draft a star qb from Florida who has not played yet. Why are you hoping to draft another one?”

I’ve read I one of the two Joes is an FSU alum.

  52. PSLBucfan Says:

The worst part is they are not fun to watch. It is bad, boring, and ugly football. Only die hard Buc fans will watch this garbage. Buc merch and tickets won’t be in great demand which hurts the Glazer revenue so something will be done, it is just a matter of time.

  53. D1 Says:

    @joe ,

Winston was a move by mgt! DK wanted Fitz !

Same reason you mentioned but not the one you think! Both Fitz and Mayfield have the teams support! That changes, then yeah, go to the bench and expose trask to the fans!

  54. Carter Says:

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Kyle Trask start against the Bills. Remember, Bowles started Trask AWAY against the JETS’ defense in preseason, by far the toughest preseason assignment, and gave Mayfield the two easier starts at home. Bowles was hoping Trask would fail against the Jets but to Bowles’ chagrin Trask played exceptionally well, so well that Bowels had to delay his starting quarterback announcement. I think Bowles may want to quell all this Trask chatter by throwing Trask into the Bills game, hoping Trask will flop, allowing Bowels to keep starting his boy Baker.

  55. Erik Hesson - Fine Artist and Founder of UniqueModernArt.com Says:

I’m a Baker fan, but Desmond Ridder looked like the better QB than Mayfield toast and it’s orb because he is, unfortunately.

  58. Mike S Says:

Elite Vita he is a snappy dresser I give him that.

  59. Mike S Says:

Carter – I’ll take Trask starting this week in a heartbeat.

    Bet the Bucs win too.

  60. D1 Says:

Trask led one touch down against the jets -2-3rd stringers.
No game planning in preseason games!

Building a case for trask outta preseason is laughable

  61. BucsFanSince1996 Says:

Something that is disturbing and I don’t understand is that the team did self-scouting during the bye week, to determine how to tweak things going forward to make needed improvements. Baker was playing pretty well prior to the bye week despite the lack of a running game. He seems to have taken a step back since then. That said, it took a full team effort (on offense) to lose that game. The penalties they took really hurt our chances.

  62. UKBuccaneer Says:

I’m confident that Trask will flop, because the offensive problems aren’t rooted in the QB position.

  63. D1 Says:

    Carter,

The only chatter that matters is locker room chatter.

Fans want trask! Strange that Joe never saw trask in the locker room after the game. I’m guessing that is more of the same trask who didn’t work hard in the offseason. He did this last one! And it shows!

That would be the greatest WR season in Buccaneers history.

  65. Rod Munch Says:

Oh, and Mike is on pace for 102 receptions as well.

I’m confident that Trask will flop, because the offensive problems aren’t rooted in the QB position.

    =======

Probably, but there is at least some hope he won’t.

With Mayfield, we already have years and years of tape, and know the outcome.

Also, Mayfield is not the answer, and we need to know if Trask is. If he’s terrible, then great, we’re drafting at the top of the draft next year and can get a new QB. If he looks good, then great, we got a QB. There’s really no downside to playing Trask.

Of course this is AFTER the Bills game.

And, of course, Mayfield should be given the shot to keep playing – IF he can have the game of his life on Thursday night. But if he’s terrible again, then what is the point of continuing to roll him out there? He is what he is, a streaker passer that even on his best day is like a #15th ranked QB. There’s no upside, and huge, bottomless pit downside.

  67. Mike S Says:

Nobody gave Trask a chance at Florida until an injury forced him on the field and then he started shredding defenses.

We’ll see once Trask gets his shot.

  68. Carter Says:

D1 Says: “Building a case for trask outta preseason is laughable”

What’s laughable is how stupid you FSU Fan Bois are. The entire case for Mayfield was built on the 15 measly passes he threw in preseason. LMAO.

  69. Mike S Says:

Rod at 3-3 still very much in the division race, even after two losses on a short week – yeah you give Mayfield this game to avail himself.

I’m thinking Mayfield goes 62% for 235 yards 1 TD 1 INT – super mediocre type stats and 17ish points.

Bucs lose 27-17 and then Mayfield is done.

  70. catcard202 Says:

Baker ain’t the problem…What’s the identity of the offense???

Who knows, right??? I’d say say it has an identity crisis. The stated goal was to run the ball more effectively & be explosive off the play-action…But they haven’t come close to finding the right balance to work off of, to put guys in position to be successful…That’s on Canales.

The problem is the league knew Bowles was on a hot seat all off-season & the Lefty/OFF staff canings did not filter well down through the NFL OFF Asst coaching ranks.

Yeah, I remember the dregs of wantabe’s that were on the OC “interview” list…It was comical.

Real NFL caliber OC’s said hell no & took better more stable options…Sticking Bowles with a “who the f-ck is this guy” list of not-quite-ready-for-primetime candidates. Thus Canales, who may have been a Pete Carroll sponge in SEA & real impressive with his interview binder…But hadn’t called a single in-game offensive play since coaching a Middle School team of 8th graders. Yikes!

The problem is Bowles struck out on serious OC’s and rolled dice on a guy with no play calling experience. No real feel for the game…He may be a great guy & NFL up and comer….But sure hasn’t proven himself to be a savant with a play sheet.

If Traskcan is rolled out at any point…It’s the preverbal white flag for the season & likely end of Bowles HC career….I agree with Joe that will signal it’s officially tank season for 2024 Draft QB – “INSERT NAME HERE” for a new HC’s staff to mold.

(You can book-it with 100% certainty that QB will be U-Dub’s Michael Penix Jr if Licht is still around!! )

  71. Mike S Says:

    catcard202 Traskcan huh?

    FSU hater.

Trask looked pretty damn good. You may not like it but accept it.

  72. WyomingJoe Says:

So Trask is the answer? Don’t make me laugh! The team is 3-3 and the season is still young. I agree that the offense hasn’t looked off the last couple of weeks, but when no one respects the run, it’s much tougher to pass. I agree with Joe. If Baker gets benched it’s the beginning of the end. So stop the loser attitudes.

  73. No Mercy Says:

Good thing I’m not a part of the team… I would tell that phony to get the f*** out

  74. Eric Says:

Joe give it up bro Mayfield will do this no matter how many games he play we need a change and what did you expect from his team mates get real dude! Wonder who put money on Brock Prudy last year!

  75. Les Says:

Bowles cannot prepare a team .he is not a motivator .Baker tries hard but overthrows a lot ,holds the ball to long and gets desperate then throws into coverage .inconsistent as a passer . The play calling sucks enough running you don’t have the horses .bowles is stubborn holding cannels back I believe . No imagination .penalties are getting worse not better . If baker lays a egg next two games .it is time for trask to have his shot .he earned it .

  76. Bucfan23 Says:

Rollingbrisket….total xBS. Mayfield misses the big pass down the sideline to Godwin 2 or 3 times, every weekend. He stinks. If he makes even one of those throws a game, Bucs score some points. And the offensive line is playing pretty decent. Mayfield can’t find the wide open receivers. They are consistently running around open. It takes him too long. The penalties are troubling for sure, but maybe they wouldn’t get caught holding, if Mayfield wasn’t sitting in the pocket for 4 seconds trying to figure it out. We can’t run the ball either. Something needs to be done there. But back to Mayfield. He’s mediocre, and it shows every week. Kyle Trask has a cannon. He’s 5 inches taller or something, and his deep touch is waaaay better than that journeyman. I remember Trask at Florida. They need to give him a chance to play. They burned a 2nd round pick on him. To not let him play is absolutely ridiculous. Shows how bad Bowles is. He’s not an NFL head coach, and will never get another opportunity, when the Glazers finally breakdown, and shlitcan that clown.

    Mike S Says:
I’m thinking Mayfield goes 62% for 235 yards 1 TD 1 INT – super mediocre type stats and 17ish points.

Bucs lose 27-17 and then Mayfield is done.

    ————

That would probably keep him the job through the 49ers game if that’s the case.

I’m thinking this will be a disaster, like a 31-3 type of blowout loss with three turnovers from Baker and an offense that does nothing, and everyone on Twitter complaining about how bad and awful the Bucs are and how they should be banned from national TV. That type of game.

I’d love to see Baker come out under pressure and play the best game he’s ever played – but I don’t see that happening.

    D1 says:
“ Building a case for trask outta preseason is laughable”

And building a case against him when he hasn’t played is laughable.

  79. Carter Says:

    @Eric

Good point about what did Joe expect from Baker’s teammates? Teammates will always support a player they know is the coach’s darling, no matter what the players really think. When Baker gets benched, they’ll support Trask. It’s the way it is. Joe just has too much time invested in trashing Trask (2+ years) and hyping Mayfield that he’s dreading Trask proving him wrong.

  80. WyomingJoe Says:

Rod and Mike: You guys will NEVER be satisfied and that makes you lousy fans. I hope Baker and the Bucs goes on a winning streak just to drive you two crazy!

  81. Rod Munch Says:

WyomingJoe – I know you’re a psychopath so you don’t understand human emotions – but I will actually be happy if the Bucs go on a winning streak, even if Baker is the cause. I know you don’t and can’t understand that since your brain is defective, but I assure you it’s the truth.

  82. Zippy Foonman Says:

Simply, the offensive line cannot create holes for any running back. If we had a working, even mediocre, running game, we’d likely be at least 4 and 2 at this point.

  83. D1 Says:

    Carter,

Lol, I am Florida native, I hate FSU! Played at University of Virginia! Your rationale fails by the wayside because it’s weak sh@t

  84. D1 Says:

    Posey,

It’s not building a case against him! There’s none for him!

I’ve said this before, if the players lose faith in baker, then you do it! Because, we haven’t seen anything from trask yet to think about a change!

    Building a case against him..lol !

  85. Optimist man Says:

Did any of you wanna be coaches stop to think, if they could only run the damn ball. Maybe just maybe that would take sum of the heat off of Baker. Run the friggin ball!!!!!!!!!!!

  86. dalvincookrules Says:

I would take Winston with all the turnovers over Mayfield any day–and I would NOT take Winston.

He’s the worst starter we’ve had since like Mike Glennon.

  87. Steelers fan Says:

The time is near i have 100% faith in Trask… atleast we know where Joe stands –On record that he thinks Trask wont succeed. Trask would win these games i gurentee that.

  88. Richard Dickson Says:

Bowles is coaching for his job and the team as at .500 and still in a divisonal race. Now way he makes a QB change now.

  89. Tom M Says:

Yall are so funny. Always beating the drum for the backup QB. LOL. And the posts mixed in between with “let’s loose out so we can draft a good qb”. First, it’s “lose”. And 2nd, that never works. Just stop being babies and let the coaches coach and pick the best players to be on the field. They have 99% more insight than any of us here whining.
    Just stop.

  90. MNfrostbite Says:

Let’s set aside the very real cap issues. This team has the same problem this year as it did last year. Weak run blocking and no running game. Brady couldn’t bring this team to .500 last year so why would you expect better this year with the same difficulties? Opposing defenses figure that out quickly and load the box. In addition, you have a defensive minded head-coach and veteran QB trying to teach a first time OC …. how to be a OC. Building an offense by committee works wonderfully in Shan-Gri-La but in the real world doesn’t come together quickly. It takes SEVERAL games. Would you really want your beloved Trask to get destroyed during this time … loosing confidence… stunt his development? Look what it’s already doing to Mayfield throughout this process. Cuz that’s what it is … a process. So stop your whiny spoiled brat belly-aching. Keep a realistic perspective and TRY to support your team. End of diatribe.

  91. Alanbucsfan Says:

Bucs need some read/option plays on offense -QB run/handoff/pass- stop protecting Mayfield- Bucs don’t have the RB’s or the OLine to generate a running game – time to get creative

  92. Mark hardt Says:

This is more used in the other Football with a round ball but the Bucs have a game in hand on the Falcones. The Glazers are trying to sell Manchester United which could be more money to go around. First they have to find an oil rich Emerite or Hedge Fund to pay their 5 Billion Dollar valuation. Try to pick up a Running Back at the trade deadline.

  93. kaimaru69 Says:

    @SlyPirate

Devin White is called out TWICE by JBF for loafing THIS SEASON and he’s a leader. What a joke

  94. Student of the Game Says:

So you naysayers want to bench Mayfield because the o-line isn’t getting the run block job done, so everyone in the NFL knows the next play is a pass? Trask is not the answer. That would just be another problem we don’t currently have on offense. Some kind of run game would do wonders to stop the ears pinned back 5 man pass rush. Fewer offensive penalties.

  95. Bored N Norman Says:

They must broadcast a different game that some of you watch. Their is zero run game, hell baker was the top running back. Zero protection up the middle. The zero open options to throw to….they showed on both the sacks literally no where to throw.

And the interception it looked like the TE either slipped in his break or slowed down.

The play calling has to get way better, have to find ways to get white the ball in space more. And the play calling needs to do a better job creating separation for the wr and give options.

  96. Nope Says:

So, let me get this straight. If we are not on board with watching the same lackluster inconsistent qb play that Baker has provided from the day he entered the league, then we are cult members? No sir, the reality is that you are just another dishonest media tool using your tabloid rag platform to push your personal agenda. The fact that you try to convince others that it’s really OK to waste their Sundays watching the bad news bears is all the proof I need. You have a second roupick rotting on the bench while we see new levels of SUCK every weekend. What are members of the Baker cult so afraid of?
