Baker Mayfield > Derek Carr

October 1st, 2023

The better quarterback.

Yeah, Joe gets it, Derek Carr was playing with an AC-joint injury in his shoulder.

Joe overheard a Saints beat guy before the game saying he watched Carr warm up Sunday morning to test his right wing. The reporter stated Carr didn’t have much if any zip on some of his throws.

(Man, how much does Dennis Allen, the slimy Saints head coach, hate Jameis?)

So this spring both the Bucs and the slimy Saints went quarterback shopping. Joe even suggested the Bucs go after Carr, though he would have been expensive.

Carr signed a four-year contract with an average salary of some $37,500,000. The Bucs grabbed Baker Mayfield for roughly $4 million plus about $4 million in incentives.

The Bucs are 3-1 and have sole possession of first place in the NFC South. The slimy Saints are 2-2.

Carr has 763 yards passing with two touchdowns and two interceptions in four games. Mayfield has 882 yards passing, seven touchdowns and two picks.

Who do you think got the better quarterback? Who do you think got a better bargain? Joe thinks the answer to those questions are Mayfield and the Bucs.

    Hell yes

  2. Cometowin2 Says:

Mayfield has been a great addition to the team and so far quite the free agent deal.

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Didn’t take long for “America’s Quarterback” to throw a pick.

  4. J Says:

And it’s all good, but I want to see some more growth from in Mayfield. You have to admit there are some wide arse open guys, a lot, and Mayfield just isn’t seeing it. I understand the play could be going the other way, but not that consistently.

  5. David Says:

Derek C. was fine. His poor performance today had nothing to do with his shoulder as he missed open receivers today. I will take Baker or Derek C. at the cheaper rate even though they both are below average qb’s and back ups.

  6. Truth be told Says:

Said it from day one. We’re so lucky to have Baker Mayfield available to them. Well look at what’s happening. We’ve got our quarterback the next 10 years and they’re probably on the cusp of being a playoff team. Who knew?

  7. Rod Munch Says:

Just happy Winston didn’t start today because there’s no way he’s not way better.

  8. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

The Aints figure a 50% Carr is better than a 100% Jay Miss. That is a sad reflection on Jay Miss, and he didn’t disappoint. Jay Miss was perfect…….for the Bucs today.
I never wanted Carr because of what he would cost. Baker is now “waking and baking.”

  9. Tye Says:

‘Man, how much does Dennis Allen, the slimy Saints head coach, hate Jameis?’

One pass from JW in this game is proof as to why!…
Straight sorry, even as a backup…

  10. Jack Clark Says:

“Man, how much does Dennis Allen, the slimy Saints head coach, hate Jameis?”

Enough to just only let him play to throw an interception 😂

  11. Dave Pear Says:

Fully expected Jameis to start the 2nd half. And then when the game is over to put him in there 3 scores down, I mean what’s left to do but try to throw deep? So, yeah Joe, that was Allen making Jameis look as bad as possible. Which makes no sense at all given the Jets QB situation, among others.

Not sure why Winston stayed in Nwawlins, given Allen’s attitude. I mean if he’s rather a broken winged Carr and gadgety Taysom Hill…..the writing is on the wall. For Jameis and for Allen.

  12. JimBobBuc Says:

Baker is doing better than I expected. In training camp, I was counting interceptions like a lot of people. Generally, he is not forcing the ball and instead running for some gains or throwing it away. I think Canales is coaching this. Sometimes Baker throws too much to ME and I thought we were better when ME went out today. We weren’t forcing it to him, and the other receivers picked up their game. I have thought the timing between Baker and the young receivers was off and maybe Baker didn’t quite trust them. This game should help our passing game a lot as the young guys made plays and I didn’t see any miscommunication with them and Baker.

  13. Don’t tell me it’s raining Says:

Well said “common sense Joe”. Reading JBF reminds me of when I dated a girl who was bipolar. You never knew who you were gonna get that day but when it was the good one, it was pretty damn good.

  14. PLawson Says:

You want to see “more growth from Mayfield?” An odd reaction to a superb performance. He was under pressure all game and managed to make something out of nothing numerous times. He’s making every kind of pass you can think of and putting his ass on the line when necessary. I guess some people are never satisfied.

  15. Zwak Says:

    The referees where horrible today..

  16. David Says:

    Do you wan to know how bad the NFC South and Dere C. are;
Derek Carr got paid 150 Ms just for Baker M. to become the best QB in the NFC south so far. LOL.

  17. Bobby Says:

Dennis Allen hates Jamis…oooo do you know some inside info on that Joe??? Sounds like you do. Is that why the Saints didn’t start Jamis today??

  18. Bobby Says:

I’m still a Jamis Winston fan by the way. I believe he could be a good quarterback in this league still if a team gave him the starting job for another year

  19. Tbbucs3 Says:

The Saints absolutely would’ve been better off if Jameis started today, not come off the bench cold with 2 minutes left in the game.

  20. Citrus County Says:

Joe ; I agree that Baker Mayfield > Derek Carr. However the ” > ” may confuse many of the algebraically deficient morons that sometimes comment on this great website.

  21. Craig Says:

Our back up QB might be better than Jameis and Derek put together.

Baker did play better than Carr, I hope he keeps it up, I don’t like that taste of my hat, but I am slowly eating it.

Sun rises in the east, sets in the west.

  23. David Says:

Baker played good today with some luck. He should have thrown three picks instead of one. No wonder OC does not him to throw long ball/explosive plays.

    However Baker/all 2023 starting qb’s > Derek C.

  24. The Beer Whisperer Says:

The Bucs started out kinda funky, but then got fun to watch.

All player errors should be forgiven, after a win.

  25. Kgh4life Says:

Saints gave Derek Carr all that money and so far, it has been a bad investment.

  26. Lovelorn For Mayfield Says:

    I’m done w Brady.
I’ve made hundreds of phone calls and emails to his various business ventures , charities and personal management and he’s still ghosting me.
    I’ve moved on….
    I’m now lovelorn for Mayfield!

  27. Lovelorn For Mayfield Says:

    Is Mayfield awesome or what?
The guy has about 2 metric tons of DAWG in him

  28. Capt2fish Says:

It was telling how during the free agency period the “experts” were making excuses for Carr whilst dog piling on baker. Now that they all look like morons…they will all start singing from the same hymnal and give the reasons why baker was overlooked (e.g. playing for worst franchise on sports , #of HCs and OCs in his young career) but will frame it as Canales is. Qb whisperer and it’s 90% Canales 10% baker

  29. Rodney Says:

Right now…we have the better organization. Baker is playing better because there is bettwr draft picks, better coaching, better defense. JL best Gm weve had since Rich Mcay

  30. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

Baker is not an elite QB. He’s overachieving. In this kind of offense he can do some things with limitations.

The story of today however was about the Bucs shutting down the Saints defensively. It wasn’t about Baker lighting it up.

What I saw was a Saints team that that laid down. Total lack of energy. Bucs played at their level – especially Winfield – but New Orleans looked uninspired. They have a bad offense and yeah Carr missed some gimme throws.

But Bucs are 3-1 going into the bye. I’m absolutely shocked.

  31. WyomingJoe Says:

David and Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan: I just can’t believe the B-lls on you guys! You never cease to amaze me with your level of arrogance and under appreciation for what Mayfield is accomplishing. Trask is your guy, and I get it. But he’s not the Bucs starter! Stop whining already because you’re making me sick.

  32. Bucschamp Says:

First throw and it’s intercepted. Felt bad for Jamies. His career is going downhill

  33. SufferingSince76 Says:

    Glorious day!

  34. steele Says:

Derek “180whassup” Carr is a bad QB, always has been, and today was typical. Even with a perfect shoulder, he would have done no better.

Saints are worse than they were last seaso. Today’s win was something any half dead team could have accomplished. Take the win, not a big deal.

  35. PewterStiffArm Says:

That’s weird, I thought I saw Carr throwing 50 yards to Olave. I hate the assumption that the Saints are always that much better than the Bucs even though we have beaten them repeatedly. Uh, doesn’t that feel good especially with all those weirdo voo-doo fans in attendance, GO BUCS!!!

  36. Itzok Says:

Shake n Bake. Love the way Baker is playing

Carr is not good never has been except one good year

  37. EEK Says:

Carr has some legit talent to work with also
He was brutal for the Saints
Yes. They must really hate Winston

  38. MrContrarian Says:

Jameis deserves more respect than how this Saints coach is treating him. Giving him the ball with 2 minutes left is pathetic. Carr was man enough to play today, he should’ve finished it. JW did the right thing by going deep. He doesn’t need to waste his time on the field risking injury with only 2 minutes left.

  39. D1 Says:

Sean Peyton didn’t care much for Winston either! So it’s not just Allen!

LOL. You need a restraining order. 😆

  41. Captain Dan Lawrence Says:

Baker has been everything we hoped he would be, and we are fortunate to have landed him,… He will earn a respectable contract extension with the BUCS!
