“We Know What’s At Stake Here”

Baker Mayfield

It seems Baker Mayfield has been brought up to speed on what a Saints game means at One Buc Palace.

It’s nearly everything.

And now that’s magnified further with both teams having identical 2-1 records and Jameis Winston set to start at quarterback for New Orleans on Sunday. Throw in the Bucs having a bye in Week 5 and Joe expects to see a Tampa Bay team playing like it’s their Super Bowl.

“We know what’s at stake here,” Mayfield said today.

But Mayfield also smirked when a media member today sort of suggested Sunday is a must-win game. Smartly, Mayfield didn’t say, “it’s not a must-win,” as that surely would have been twisted out of context. Instead, Mayfield tried to convey that while it’s a huge game, the result won’t make or break the Bucs.

Joe can’t call it a must-win, either. But there is a massive difference between 3-1 and a game up on New Orleans versus limping into the bye week at 2-2 and a step and a half back in the division.

Yeah, this Sunday has more juice, Mayfield said, “especially the division ones, especially this rivalry.”

  1. TAMPA BAY DEMON Says:

As long as Baker gets what “Saints week” means for us in TB, that is all that matters. go BUCS.

  2. PSL Bob Says:

We get the Saints again at home, so if we lose we can get it back later. BUT, it would sure be nice to come out of their crib at 3-1. We need to let the rest of the Division know we’re the top dog.

  3. Obvious Says:

You guys are preaching to the squire and it would be a world of difference taking our time out 3 and 1 versus the alternative..

He speaks as if he gets how important it is to us so….

  4. Obvious Says:

Ok, maybe to the “quire”. I’m getting a little medieval I suppose…..

  5. Boss Says:

put ME in a DB uniform and teach him to catch. JW will hit him exery time. It’s our only hope!

  6. rriddler Says:

Every game should be a must-win game. Record or opponent doesn’t matter.

  7. Timbo Slice Says:

    @Obvious it’s choir haha

  8. Mike C Says:

Yeah rridder…….. everyone is a robot smh gtfoh with that weak sauce regurgitated comment.

  9. rriddler Says:

    Mike C.
I have no clue what you’re trying to say. Is English your second language?

  10. The Beer Whisperer Says:

I wouldn’t put a whole lotta faith, in what Baker says. He knows all the football cliche’s.

Bucs should talk less, and score more points….. Problem solved.

  11. Bill in Seminole Says:

Anytime it’s a division game, and especially the Saints, it’s a must-win game.

  12. Mike Says:

As long as the bucs keep playing small ball because that’s the only way to keep Baker relevant, we will only have a mediocre season, when he is forced to go down field, interceptions, over throws or short throws. He has been like that his whole career, eagles figured that out and so will the other opponents they will face.

  13. Hodad Says:

Expect a big dose of Kamara.

  14. Joshua porter Says:

As a gators and bucs fan I would rather see the bucs beat the dog crap out of the saints more than the gators beat the dog crap out of FSU….. go bucs eat that w this week

  15. SlyPirate Says:

    Hodad Says:
Expect a big dose of Kamara.

    ^^^^^

And Hill. The Bucs showed they don’t do well against power backs.

  16. Kidfloflo Says:

Wish that bum Kamara was suspended for 4 games and we got at least one without him! Hopefully he is not up to game speed yet, but I doubt it

  17. Chad Says:

The beer whisperer, tell white to run the ball better or tell Dave to call more passing plays, cuz that’s the only way the offense scores more points

  18. Chad Says:

Mike eagles didn’t figure nothing out they are far more talented in almost every facet of the game. 2.3 seconds to throw is nothing and that’s all he had. No running game cuz o-line couldn’t block, quit being a hater. Baker ain’t the only reason or the biggest reason they lost that game

  19. Mike Says:

Chad let’s see if you still feel the same way after week 8 if baker lasts that long
But if he does I will be the first to say you are right

  20. Pelsbuc61 Says:

What’s at stake. Evans being a total non factor, then he takes a swing at the db and gets suspended for a game or two. Or he may just drop another pass in the end zone. Bucs have to get the ball to Godwin!

  21. Pelsbuc61 Says:

Kancey, Sirvoccia, Davis and Dean need to get on the field asap! Ronde played in the NFC championship and SB with a torn up knee. None of this “ give them until after the bye” crap. Devin White is limited by his groin injury and DBs are down to 3rd stringers. Lots of money invested in players not playing. SMH!

  22. garro Says:

It is a division rival and thus…Very important for us…Especially when it is late in the season and one game is important for a posssible division title or wild card spot.

    Go Bucs!
