Taysom Hill Is In Todd Bowles’ Head

September 27th, 2023

Saints versatile weapon Taysom Hill.

Todd Bowles knows slimy Saints TE/WR/QB/RB Taysom Hill very well.

In December, Hill came extraordinarily close to ruining Bowles’ 2022 season (see video below) and keeping the Bucs out of the playoffs.

In the last Saints-Bucs meeting in early December, the Saints had a 3rd-and-17 and were lined up on their 18 yard line — set to just about lock down a win with a first down. There was 2:47 remaining and the Bucs had one timeout in their pocket.

The Bucs only rushed three at then-Saints quarterback Andy Dalton. Sure enough, Dalton was unpressured and threw a strike to Hill at the Saints’ 45 yard line. The throw went over Lavonte David’s head as Jamel Dean was beaten two steps from Hill; the only hope was for safety Keanu Neal to make a play from centerfield on Hill.

And Neal made the play. He lowered his head and drilled Hill in the gut as he hauled in the ball. It squirted to the ground and the Saints had to punt while the Bucs kept their final timeout in their pocket.

Next came a Tom Brady touchdown drive that ended with a short touchdown pass to Rachaad White, the game-winner with three seconds left.

If Hill makes that catch … Remember, the Bucs were one game better than the Saints in the standings.

Bowles knows Alvin Kamara returns from suspension Sunday against the Bucs. He also knows all about the dangers of receivers Michael Thomas, Rashid Shaheed and Chris Olave, as well as the talent in Jameis Winston’s right arm. But Bowles told SiriusXM NFL Radio that he’s very concerned about versatile Hill.

“He’s a very good football player, and a good runner and he’s a good passer (chuckles). He’s a good blocker, he’s a good receiver, he does a little bit of everthing for those guys, ” Bowles said. “It’s a real challenge because he can do so many things. I think Pete does a great job getting him in in position to do all those things. And then if you fall asleep there, they’ve got all those other athletes that can hurt you.”

Joe is no fan of Hill when he plays quarterback, but the guy is dangerous and has Joe’s respect. Hill is averaging 5.7 yards per carry this season, right at his career average. He’s even broken three tackles in those 16 carries (Rachaad White has broken 4 in 48 carries).

Depth will be an isssue and a challenge for the Bucs defense on Sunday. It sets up secondary options in the Saints offense quite well — guys like Hill.

Hopefully Bowels can contain Kamara like he’s done pretty well in years past but this Bucs run defense looks like a shell of it’s former self.

  2. Mike Johnson Says:

In Bowles head or not, Mr. Hill is a very good player. Every single time he enters a game, something positive happens for his team. The guy is simply a baller,

  3. Kidfloflo Says:

When he came in the Panthers game other night, he ran two big plays up the gut! How are u not ready for that!? He’s either running or they are gonna throw to him, he’s least effective as a passer imo, so take the other 2 options away

  4. unbelievable Says:

He’s rightfully inside Bowles’ head, as Taysom Hill has embarrassed our defense on multiple occasions. Too many times to count, to quite be honest.

Some of the most embarrassing, pathetic excuses for tackling I’ve ever seen in my nearly 40 years on this Earth, have come when watching the Bucs defense try to bring Hill down. We make him look like an all-pro nearly every time we play them. The guy looks like a combination of both Deion Sanders and Barry Sanders. It’s pathetic.

  5. BucsFan81 Says:

Bowles just better find a way to win. It is a division game so it is even more important and Bowles can’t afford to lose to many games or he will be jobless next season.

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Surely we can put a spy on him…if he’s in, he’s getting the ball.

  7. JimBobBuc Says:

Bowles needs to be realistic about his banged up defense: how many points will the Aints put up? My guess is 21-28 points. Bowles needs to tell Canales we need 28 or more to win.

  8. Crickett Baker Says:

Oh, Unbelieveable, PLEASE don’t remind me of Barry Sanders. Just about every one of his highlight films is against the Bucs. He consistently made us look like monkeys. SHUT Hill dowwwwnnn.

  9. Beej Says:

We will stop slant boy. (Can’t say as much about Hill)

  10. Allen Lofton Says:

Hill has hurt the Bucs over the years by doing it all. And with Winston you never know – the good Winston can beat you – it will probably a hard-fought game and could go either way. We have a lot of injuries to our defense.

  11. Hodad Says:

On a short week, banged up gotta pick N.O. this time. Hopefully not next.

  12. Buc4evr Says:

Just hope our D starters can play, as this will be a hard hitting game and Hill can and will run for big yards. As far as the o line, we are who we thought we are. I expect the Saints to copy Philly’s defensive game plan. The right side of the line is horrendous. Actually a
I went to high school that had one or maybe two better O linemen than Mauc or Godeke. lol, sad but true… Mauc isn’t that strong and should not be a starter.. Gödeke doesn’t play with his head on a swivel, it’s up his Azz.

  13. DBS Says:

Has this team ever been ready for the trick plays or any plays they use him for? I can’t remember anytime they have.He can come out have it displayed all over his jersey and they still won’t expect it. Hopefully this game they will pay attention and be ready .

  14. Slacker Says:

    Lattimore already in Evans head

  15. Darin Says:

Most, or all backup qbs are in Bowles head. They should be

  16. Rod Munch Says:

Hey idiots talking about Lattimore … why don’t you ever talk about the 50 yards a game that he gets in pass interference calls vs Evans?

There’s more to the game than the box score, dummies.

  17. PewterStiffArm Says:

One positive play here and one there actually makes of a season. If you don’t have a balance towards the plus side it will bite you in the a$$ sooner rather than later during your season.

  18. 757Buc’em Says:

Look how Dean fakes being hurt 😂😂😂

  19. StormyInFl Says:

“……as well as the talent in Jameis Winston’s right arm. ”

And the lack of brains and common sense in his head, too…

WinstonClaus is a certified dumbass that will definitely throw up his share of gifts. Just gotta take advantage of it.
