Logan Ryan Open To A Return

September 28th, 2023

Available.

It seems former Bucs defensive back Logan Ryan sent out a Bat Signal yesterday all but saying to Bucs coach Todd Bowles, “Hey Todd, if you need a defensive back, text me.”

Ryan, who spent last year with the Bucs, is currently unemployed. And yesterday appearing on “Up and Adams” seen on FanDuelTV hosted by Kay Adams, Ryan very much seemed to keep the door open if Bowles and the Bucs are in need of a defensive back.

(Joe finds the timing interesting because both Bucs starting corners Carlton Davis and Jamel Dean are hurt.)

Ryan confessed to Adams since he is unemployed, he’s really taken a liking to his opportunities in the non-NFL player world, being able to do so many things personally and professionally away from an NFL locker room.

However, Ryan added there are two teams he would be interested in suiting up for. Each team, Ryan said, has opportunities for a defensive back. And both played each other Monday night.

The Bucs and the Eagles.

Ryan lives in Tampa and is from New Jersey. So the connections are obvious. But Ryan added he’s a big Bowles guy and Ryan told Adams the Bucs are Bowles’ team this year and molded much more into the vision Bowles has.

Yes, Joe took from that the Bucs were not Bowles’ team last year. You can watch the clip from FanDuelTV below.

So it seems a guy that lives in Tampa that has played in the NFL as recently as last year and already knows Bowles’ defense is ready to help.

Interestingly, Adams asked Ryan why he wouldn’t want to return to the Belicheats. Ryan said if he returns, it would be because of an opportunity and he doesn’t see that with the Belicheats.

OK, Joe will take the bait. Did Ryan mean he thinks he can play as well as someone currently with the Bucs?

Logan’s worth a workout to see what kind of shape he’s in, but I’m not sure what he would add. Out backend is very inconsistent this year with splash play interceptions and terrible missed tackles. It’s interesting that Izien might be our best DB?

  2. LVMYBUCS Says:

I will never understand the Dean contract I dont care what anyone says he has never been that good the only way he gets any int’s is if it falls right in his lap most of the time.

  3. Defense Rules Says:

If Logan’s willing to sign for vet minimum plus a few incentives I’d certainly bring him in for a look-see. Plays both Safety & CB, and we’re short on experience in both. Based on last year (half a season followed by IR) I wouldn’t count on him to last a whole season, but he is ‘only’ 32 and we could use some help back there before the season gets away from us largely due to injuries.

  4. MiamiBuc Says:

Yeah but what shape is he in? For this Sunday’s game he probably can’t play more than alternating plays.

  5. Ed Says:

If they could sign the over-the-hill Richard Sherman a few years back, this guy cannot be any worse.

  6. StormyInFl Says:

Wouldn’t hurt to kick the tires. They need someone since the overpaid 29 million dollar Porcelain Dolls are already hurt – ahead of schedule, even for these two.

Barring a miracle with one of their unknowns, they literally have nothing.

  7. Cousin Eddy Says:

Bill Barnwell of ESPN has an article out today on the 6 starting quarterbacks most likely to be benched. He ranks Mayfield as the 3rd most likely to be benched. He says the late announcement of Mayfield as the starter means a short leash, and the front office that drafted Trask is going to want to see what they have.

  8. EEK Says:

If he left on good terms, I would think he would get a workout and a look

Need some depth with all the injuries

  9. Bucamania Says:

    Neal has been horrendous

  10. Marine Buc Says:

When healthy Logan played pretty well last…

    WHEN HEALTHY.

I wouldn’t be opposed to bringing him back if he is in shape but I wouldn’t count on him playing more than 3-4 games.

  11. StickinUp4Centers Says:

THe D seemed to get more turnovers when he was on the field at the beginning of 2022. Not sure where he fits though as I thought he was playing more of a safety/nickel role and the Bucs, at the moment, need more outside CBs.

  12. Buc4evr Says:

Sign him today. Dean isn’t better.

  13. Dlavid Says:

LVMYBUCS…you are so correct !!!! Completely flabbergasted at the Dean dining …. Our secondary banged up and out of commission again …. Not a good look in a passing league ! This team has a lot of guts and fire in the belly ! They were so out classed Monday night … regardless of who plays here and there go your way, and they would not have been embarrassed, and had a moral victory! I know those don’t count for a W, but it does help the spirit !

  14. Marine Buc Says:

    @ Dlavid

I hope the Bucs can make the playoffs by winning “moral victories”…

    LOL!

Crap in one hand and count moral victories in the other… Which hand fills up faster?

Truth is – the Bucs had a chance to prove they are a top tier team last Monday night and all they did was prove they are NOT anywhere close.

Watching that game was like watching my barn cat play with a mouse before she eats it. We are lucky the Eagles took it easy on us and decided not to score with a minute left while they had the ball on within our ten yard line…

  15. Alanbucsfan Says:

The D played well vs Eagles , especially considering the injuries.
The Bucs mainly lost because of some critical poor execution plays on offense, back to back turnover possessions and the safety play.
Catch the ball, protect the ball, make better decisions on offense, and White needs to stop dancing or get another RB.

  16. Crickett Baker Says:

Whoever expected a big win over the Eagles is just plain out of touch with our team. New many things and hardly any time to gel, yet. AT LEAST you should be happy they didn’t score 70 points on us! Under the circumstances (and questionable play calling) I think we did pretty darn good.

  17. 1#bucsfan Says:

Cricket n Alan thank you guys only a few see the positives most are just way to negative and cry about everything especially the injuries. The defense kept us in the game they came up with some huge stops with the injuries and the offense not playing to well the eagles could have easily put up 70 pts. We have a legit defense but with the injuries they need help. They played way too many snaps. Also most people forget the eagles are the NFC defending champs. I wasn’t happy with the outcome at 1st but now looking back it really wasn’t to bad. It’s 1 game. If the Bucs use that game and improve from it then we are in good shape. The run blocking is about the only thing concerning at this point and injuries but everyone deals with those. People complain like the Bucs are the only team that injuries happen to lol

  18. Capt.Tim Says:

    Cool- give him a tryout

  19. WillieG Says:

Can he bring Playoff Lenny with him?

  20. unbelievable Says:

He hasn’t looked very good this year… but in previous seasons Dean was sometimes a better cornerback than Carlton Davis.

Very low completion percentage against him, lots of passes defended, etc. No he does not get very many INTs, but frankly none of our DBs do.

  21. Pewter Power Says:

Ryan is too slow to play corner and Izien has slot locked down. No more guys like one year from retirement please

  22. Pickgrin Says:

Logan Ryan can’t play outside CB – and that’s where our DB injuries lie currently.

If Safeties start going down – then he’s the 1st guy you call….

But signing a safety (who can cover) is not the answer to both starting outside CBs being hurt….

Next man up – Keenan Isaac who I thought looked decent in preseason.

McCollum, Delaney, Pitts and Isaac are going to have to hold down the fort for at least 1 game.

  23. Pickgrin Says:

Just saw that Davis was back at practice today – so maybe he’ll be ok to play?

Dean didn’t practice and neither did Pitts (hammy).

  24. Reality BucFan Says:

Im so sick and tired of the old guys RATHER Dean or Davis was available they play 15yds off the ball Scared To get in the WR face .. I don’t care what defensive play is called and if it needs them to be that far back then screw the whole defensive system….our Zone is Trash… Draft some in Your Face corners that’s not afraid… We paying our DBs to do nothing but get beat PERIOD…. Talk about the TB RAYS Joe..

  25. CTBucs Says:

Nahhhh… this will be a richard Sherman 2.0. Guy will play one game, get an INT, get our hopes up, then straight to IR with a soft tissue injury. I’m good, I’d rather let the young kids get roasted

  26. garro Says:

I do not have a problem with him coming back. But …Money…

    Go Bucs!
