Lavonte David Has A Message: “Don’t Fall Apart.”

September 20th, 2023

Lavonte David

Here comes the loaded Eagles offense.

They’ve got a versatile quarterback and a beastly offensive line, and big-time receivers and a stud tight end. And the Eagles just ran for 259 yards against the Vikings, a team the Bucs struggled to run against.

Iconic Bucs linebacker Lavonte David knows what awaits. He believes in his defense, but he knows it will have to weather ugly moments and stretches against the Eagles on Monday Night Football next week.

David talked about playing smart, discipined football on CBS Sports Radio yesterday, but he also served up one of his messages to teammates.

“Don’t fall apart. Things are going to happen in this game,” David said. “… Stick to the script and play our brand of football.”

David wouldn’t take the sports radio bait and say the underdog Bucs can make a big statement in Monday’s clash of undefeated teams. “Every week is a big statement,” David said. He noted the Bucs had an underdog mentality when Tom Brady was on the team and that hasn’t wavered.

David likes this edition of the Bucs for the players’ endless fight and work rate. “A team full of dogs,” he said.

Joe isn’t terribly concerned with the result against the Eagles. Of course Joe wants a “W,” but Joe really wants to see this physical brand of Bucs football combined with smart play continue. That’ll translate to double-digit wins if it lasts all season.

  1. A Bucs Fan Says:

I hope this game is as good as I think it will be. I want to see this defense hit those iggles square in the mouth! Go Bucs!

  2. JimBobBuc Says:

I’m with Joe. It’s going to be a really tough game and we will see our glaring weaknesses. I want us to have a good showing for the national audience and we will have our chance if we stay resilient through 4 quarters and win the turnover battle. No matter what happens, I think we will take the lessons learned and get better for the Aints.

  3. Larrd Says:

The Bucs have a lot of players who have competed at the level the Eagles are playing at. They have a solid chance.

  4. Sly Pirate Says:

I can’t wait to see who rises to the occasion. My guesses …
    >EASY: Godwin and Winfield always plays their best in the biggest games
    >EDUCATED: Shaq and D White make big plays.
    >DARK HORSE: Izein. This guys is an absolute playmaker.

  5. Marine Buc Says:

I hope the Bucs can stop the Eagles run game and also contain Jalen Hurts from scrambling all over the place.

The Bucs couldn’t run the ball against the Vikings and the Eagles ran the ball with ease all over them… Makes me a little nervous for Monday night.

  6. Mike C Says:

Fans have to stay with it too, eagles fans will be all over the place. Stay loud all game Bucs fans.

  7. PSL Bob Says:

I’ll be happy, win or lose, as long as it’s not a blow out. A close game against the Eagles will be a boost to the Bucs’ confidence going into Week 4 against the Saints. That game, although early in the season, may be the best indicator of how the division is likely to sort out.

  8. William Walls Says:

Even if the Eagles win, I want them to pay dearly for it. Not in injuries, obviously, but if they should happen to outscore us, I want them to feel every point, every single yard in their rattled, embattled bones. I want their bodies to axhe so hard that they cry real tears and get a sinking feeling in their gut at the thought of a rematch.

  9. Nicholas Carlson Says:

Super smart point by him. Experience and wisdom showing!

  10. UKBuccaneer Says:

Everyone and their grandma expects the Iggles to win big. That’s a great position tk be in – a bucs win sends shockwaves through the league. A close bucs loss is still something to build upon.

  11. DS Says:

    Just play good ball!

  12. Allbuccedup Says:

Lets hope our team shows us and the rest of the viewing area that we are ready for prime time.

  13. Ugotrobbed Says:

Sooo, you’re saying we have a chance?? :]

  14. Pewter Power Says:

A win would be nice but eagles have a track of winning we don’t yet. LVD is spot on but speaking like a would just don’t get blown out. That playoff lost last year didn’t feel very good

  15. Kidfloflo Says:

Joe’s any chance Kancey plays? It would be a huge boon to an already stout Defense, we need all hands on deck

  16. Bucs'n'Bucks Says:

The D did a great job shadowing Fields. Do that again on Hurts and we win!

  17. Crickett Baker Says:

We have almost never had a good showing on Monday night football as I remember–in fact, not much good in night games at all. I hope we can break that streak 9/25/23.

  18. 1#bucsfan Says:

Joe. I deff feel the same way. Of course I want us to win but if we lose a close game it won’t be the end of the world. This will be a great test for our team. Every week is a tough week in the nfl. Even bad teams can have good games and good teams can have bad games that’s what makes the nfl so unpredictable. Anyone think the chiefs were going to lose their first game. Nope. Eagles are a tough and physical team. I’m looking forward to seeing how our guys match up. If both teams have a good game I think it will be a close one and exciting. Trial by fire for our OC going against their defense. Their offense has playmakers at every position and their oline is legit. Our defense wants to be the best then shut the eaglea down and don’t look back.

  19. BigPoppaBuc Says:

I think there are some ring wearing super bowl champions at one Buc who have to feel a bit disrespected. I doubt we’ll ever hear any of the players utter a foul word about Tom Brady but I think there are guys like LVD who want to prove it wasn’t just Tom winning all those games the past three years m

  20. stpetebucfan Says:

“Team full of dogs”. Love it. Again I remember a Sooner fan on a blog saying how much we’ll love Baker because he’s got the “dawg” in him.

Seems like Izien and some of the other youngsters come from the pound as well.

I do not like to lose. But worst of all is watching a team that does not have heart. Sadly that’s kinda of what I thought I was watching last year.

  21. David Says:

Need to play it similar like last week to contain Hurts with the speed of LVD and White. The secondary will need to step up (hopefully Davis is back) because there are more weapons than Chicago.

  22. orlbucfan Says:

Hope LVD is warning his fellow dawgs about the refs. Bucs run hot and cold on MNF and have for decades. I just want them to give the Iggles a battle, win or lose. Go Bucs!

I’m with you Joe. Obviously I want a win, but I also just want to see us compete and not, “Bucs beating Bucs”. I fear that Mayfield will finally have a turnover this game, but I hope he does not!

Just get to the bye week being at least 3-1, and I’ll be happy. 4-0 would be amazing.

  24. Michael Says:

Your about to see the importance of the O-line and D-line . Eagles are in the top 3 in the league on both sides . Containing their QB and forcing turnovers is KEY to this game . No team is unbeatable but it’s going to take a monumental mistake free effort . The next three games will define our season .

    FIRE THE CANNONS 💣🎇🎆

  25. Usfbuc Says:

I would almost rather lose this game since we will potentially face the Eagles in the playoffs. Seems like it’s harder to adjust off of a win versus the losing team.

  26. Usfbuc Says:

If we can beat the Eagles though then just the 49ers are left as a question mark on the schedule.

  27. garro Says:

Great wisdom from our Mr. David.

Who BTW has the experience to know what he is talking about.

    Go Bucs!
