Jake Camarda Gets Historic Marks

September 12th, 2023

Bucs punter Jake Camarda has historic stats.

Joe and many other fans take for granted the greatness in the right leg of Bucs punter Jake Camarda.

After a stunning opening day on Sunday, the second-year punter joins historic company — not for a single-game effort, but for his career.

Among punters in NFL history with 85 or more attempts, Camarda ranks No. 2 in gross punting average (aka distance) at 49.2 yards. And he’s No. 7 all-time in net average at 42 yards.

How impressive is that for a second-year punter? Damn impressive!

Sunday against the Vikings, Camarda had six punts with a gross average over 54 yards per boot, and he dropped two inside the 20, pinning the Vikings in bad field position.

Of course, six punts a game is something no team wants to see, but Bucs fans should be darn proud and comfortable every time Camarda trots out there.

Joe’s favorite Camarda play goes back to his heroic running punt at home against Carolina last season. Joe still can’t believe it.

Camarda sure looks like a wise, late-fourth-round pick by Super Bowl general manager Jason Licht.

What a Sunday it was for the Tampa Bay special teams, with Camarda doing his thing, new kicker Chase McLaughlin nailing a 57-yard field goal for the W, and some impressive work by the coverage units.

Another home run draft pick by Jason Licht. Thank you

  2. HC Grover Says:

He a Top Dog plus our new place kicker could be the edge we need.

  3. unbelievable Says:

The kid has a straight up cannon.

And that running kick last year was an incredible display of athleticism, even if he’s a kicker.

It’s nice that kicker is no longer a position of worry after plaguing us for so long.

  4. unbelievable Says:

    *punter and kicker are

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

With our kickers and this younger team, I expect our ST will be much better. We have a lot of willing players…..not a bunch of divas.

  6. Mikadeemas Says:

McCollum has become a pretty damn good gunner, IMO. Kick A game, GO BUCS!!!

  7. Casual Observer Says:

Our special teams usually suck. This time they played very well. Hope this is for real.

  8. unbelievable Says:

If Hall, Goedeke, and JTS make some real progress this season (or even just 2 of those 3), Licht will have nailed the majority of our last 6 – 7 drafts.

  9. gotbbucs Says:

    He’s a weapon. That’s an All-Pro leg.

Thompkins I thought looked really good returning punts too.

Kid is a baller. Stud athlete.

  11. Mike Says:

Who would have thought we’d have such an advantage on Special Teams? Wow!

  12. Marine Buc Says:

The combo of Camarda our new place kicker and the influx of youthful players will help propel the Bucs special teams unit into the top ten…

  13. BA's Red Pen Says:

27 was smashing dudes playing gunner as well.

  14. Rob in Land O Lakes Says:

Our punter is a true defensive weapon combined with our punt coverage. Our kicker looks to be an offensive threat. Tompkins looks like the real deal as a returner. When was the last time (if ever) we could say special teams was a strength of this team?

  15. firethecannons Says:

I agree here, this was an awesome pick in the 4th round. Also the punt coverage team was great too.

  16. sasquatch Says:

It was interesting to see all the b!tching and moaning when they made that pick. So many naysayers and complainers… A 4th rounder for a punter who can put up those numbers and give you a field position advantage every game is a no-brainer, totally worth it.

Oh my gosh, people went mental. Camarda won a game for the Bucs last year.

    Yes!

  19. BucU Says:

    Jake is a rock star.

  20. SB~LV Says:

Can’t wait for the fake punt call… he is as fast as many RB’s and WR’s

  21. D-Rok Says:

Save for Ray Guy, Jake Camarda is by far the most impactful punter I’ve seen in the NFL in the last 50 years or so.

  22. adam from ny Says:

    jake > ray guy

jake is not just a guy

  23. Larrd Says:

The punter is great. Ray Guy was better. Using fourth round picks on kickers should be avoided. Bucs fans should know that better than anyone. The Browns drafted a kicker this year and had to cut him and make a trade.

  24. BillyBucco Says:

Dude is a pure athlete too.
I really wanna see them do some fake punts with him this year.

Thank you for completely contradicting yourself. You should’ve stopped at “The punter is great”.

I was upset we didn’t draft Matt Ariaza. Thank god I was wrong

  27. Rod Munch Says:

Who was it all preseason that kept saying he sucked in every gameday thread? He was literally like 10th or something at the time in terms of average and net, had like 7 of 11 inside the 20, and this dummy kept asking why he was doing so bad and saying he had regressed. Baffling if the guy wasn’t just being a troll.

What an awful situation for Araiza, the lying woman makes all those claims, demands a settlement, and then it turns out he literally wasn’t even at the party in question, is 100% innocent. Meanwhile nothing will happen to her for her fake claims that ruined his life, and all the morons who don’t pay attention still think he’s guilty.

  29. unbelievable Says:

    @Rob in Land O Lakes – never!

    Was a nice change.

  30. Sly Pirate Says:

Not me. I post on Camarda after every game. Y’all just want to talk QBs.

ST was a big reason we won that game. Camarda makes offenses go the distance. Positionally, he might be the best player on the team, next to Wirfs.

Definitely look much better overall on ST.

Nothing about Mike Williams Joe?! Please post something.

  34. adam from ny Says:

    rip mike williams…

maybe they’ll be a moment of silence for him at the stadium on sunday…

so young and such a tragic story…rip

  35. adam from ny Says:

    there’ll *

  36. Mark A Swygert Says:

For a little over a season Mike Williams and Josh Freeman were an effective offensive combo for us, and then both of them went off the rails. I never heard what happened to Williams, but the scuttlebutt with Freeman was substance abuse.

  37. lambchop Says:

I think we can safely anoint Jake as the real “Punt God”

  38. JimBobBuc Says:

I’ve always liked Camarda as his combine was great and he’s an athlete that can run. He just needs to keep working in his directional punting. My only problem with him is that he’s too active in tackling, including the Minnesota game, and I hate to see him get hurt.

Zyon had problems tackling as a DB in the preseason and I’m really happy to see his special teams tacking as it will help him as a DB.

  39. garro Says:

He is getting better for sure. Almost had one downed at the goal line as well.

    Go Bucs!
