“I Feel His Experience”

September 22nd, 2023

Buccaneers offensive coordinator Dave Canales is on an early roll.

Baker Mayfield is no Tom Brady, but he’s long been out of his NFL diapers.

Not worrying about Mayfield soiling himself is appreciated by his first-time offensive coordinator.

“I feel his experience,” Canales said today of Mayfield. “I feel that he’s seen every defense that you could possibly run at this point in his career. He’s seen every blitz. He’s seen every pass concept. He’s had nine playcallers. He’s got such a wealth of knowledge in the pass game, answers for different things, different pressures.”

Hard to believe, but Mayfield is indeed on his ninth playcaller in six NFL seasons. That’s what happens when you bounce around the league and play for teams in turmoil (Browns and Panthers).

Mayfield also played for two colleges.

Canales went on to mention how nasty and complex defensively the AFC North was when Mayfield played in that division for the Browns. That’s tested Mayfield to the extreme, Canales said, and no longer does the quarterback have to prove himself — he just has to complete passes.

Canales and Baker combo maybe the Bucs saving grace…
Good enough to make up for the putrid coaching everywhere else…

  2. Buccos Says:

Coaching seems pretty good so far actually. Definitely a top 10 defense

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Just manage the game….don’t turn it over….keep us in it and let our defense dominate….

    And, then….there’s always our punter!!!

  4. Voice of Truth Says:

He has been better than Kirk Cousins and Justin Fields thus far

The guy is growing on me, can’t wait to see a real measuring stick game Monday night with a weakened Eagles secondary

Listening to Eagles podcasts, and what a bunch of truly stupid people they are.

    Some takes from listening…

One guy said the Bucs have one of the NFL’s best offensive lines, with studs at LT and RT. Before the Luke defenders get excited, this same moron said the Bucs safeties are not that good. This is probably the same type of idiot that in 2002 said Ronde was small and slow and could be picked on in the passing game. Really how big of an idiot do you have to be to now know who Winfield Jr is, literally one of the best safeties in the game.

Another podcast then said the Bucs offensive line is terrible, and while Wirfs is a nice player, the team stupidly moved him to LT where he’s not that good. Also they said AJ Brown is better than future HOF’er Mike Evans. Please get that word to Evans, as when people say player X is better than him, he always goes off bigly.

From the ones I’ve listened to so far, they’re all universally picking the Eagles, saying the Eagles will get the easy W, even if it’s not as easy of a W as they thought a few weeks ago.

From listening to Vikings, Bears and Eagles podcasts, all of them said the Bucs were the easiest part of their schedule.

Out of the three, the Eagles podcasts are by far the most boring and uninteresting. The Bears, by far, were the most entertaining in how much they cried and whined – plus all the fun stuff happening there this week their DC and all the alleged things happening around him.

  6. Infomeplease Says:

BM6’s experience got him the QB1 job!! He needs to continue to play well this Monday!

  7. NE Fan Says:

Ya know what we call that in the real world??? The man can’t keep a job. Wasn’t Mayfield brought into these teams to remove the turmoil? How is joining the Bucs any different? Was he the #1 choice and future franchise QB? He’s played two games now he is the second coming and Bucs should sign him to a 5yr $240MM contract. Before you take his diapers off let’s make sure he doesn’t miss the potty. Accidents are NOT good.

  8. Texasbucsfan Says:

It is time to let Tom Brady go. Why do you keep rehashing and comparing the two quarterbacks. You can’t change yesterday. Brady won Tampa Bay a Super Bowl. Give it up.

Umm…. so how’s New England doing? 0-2? 😂 Must suck to be a pats fan without Tom Brady

  10. Ray Says:

So far, I really like this OC. We’ll see if he gets too predictable but I’m optimistic and hopeful, let’s go BUCS!!!

  11. Ray Says:

    Mmmm Hooters!!!!

  12. Woodenman Says:

NE Fan you are an idiot. Why don’t you get your Brady blow up doll worship him .

  13. Since76 Says:

So Baker doesnt have to prove himself. Given the job or not if he doesn’t play well the coach won’t be proving himself. Baker is doing ok so far. I think the last Quarter or so of the last game it was coaching that wanted to sit on on a small lead. I think we will see that all year.

    @rod

    You’re cool bro.

    Thanks for sharing that!

  16. stpetebucfan Says:

Wow NE it must really suck to be you right now. Your beloved Patriots are WINLESS with both games at home exposing the truth that BB is beyond overrated as an NFL HC. A GREAT DC yep but his record proves he can’t operate successfully as an HC without Brady and BB literally LUCKED into Brady and needed an injury before putting him in the lineup.

Yeah NE I’m simply going to reply to your DESPERATE attempts to depress Bucs fans by throwing the REALITY that YOUR guys SUCK…0-2 AT HOME!

All of us here are having a GREAT laugh at YOUR expense.

But you seem like a nice guy in search of friends so I’ll toss this out for you from Conan the Barbarian.

“When all else fails there’s always delusion.”

  17. Statguy Says:

If you can’t see the difference with this situation for Mayfield then you should STFU and read more and post less

  18. David Says:

Baker better make it this season.Otherwise Dave Canales is Baker’s ninth and last OC. Why ??? He will be out of NFL after this season due to his poor plays. The qb’s are evaluated in November and December not after wining against two wingless teams.

  19. The Beer Whisperer Says:

I’m waiting for a little more success from Baker, before crowning him “King of the Gridiron”

  20. m milligan Says:

    David, you’re an idiot.
NE fan’s got nothing working. I don’t know who they can beat in their own division. To bad Bucs don’t have NE game on schedule, walkover and extra rest, probably be able to let Trask see some action.

  21. m milligan Says:

I think BM gonna go down at some pt this season, need to be prepared.

  22. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

Rod, God love ya for taking the hit and listening to that. I can’t listen to podcasts, not even the Bucs, just don’t have the patience for it. I couldn’t imagine listening to casts about teams I don’t like. Gold star fan of the week.

  23. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

We are lucky to have mayfield. Finally the Bucs have some good fortune. We needed that after Tom’s departure. Bp Bucs!

  24. EEK Says:

yes, he is a franchise QB
yes, we have a legitimate chance at winning the division with Baker

    stay healthy Baker

  25. Jason Says:

Dave needs to cover his mouth while calling plays. Caught this on our the last game when the camera was on him. Will one of the Joes remind him to cover up at least with card with all of the plays in his hand.

  26. Rod Munch Says:

Jack Burton Mercer – I can’t stand listening to most Bucs podcasts, but other teams are interesting in that you get the local gossip, things to look for, and mainly to hear them talk about how badly they’re going to beat the Bucs, and to hear their stupid takes on Bucs players.

Mainly, however, what I really enjoy is hearing them cry and whine afterwards. The Bears were fantastic at this – they went from pre-game talking about how they’ll be back at 500 after they beat Tampa, to talking about how they need to bench Justin Fields and start their 3rd stringer and play for the #1 overall pick. AFTER WEEK 2. It’s hilarious. Then all the stuff with the feds allegedly raiding ther building and their DC resigning for some mysterious reason that may or may not have to do with certain pictures on his computer. Their radio was fun this week, in a sports TMZ kind of way.

The Eagles meanwhile, just real low IQ dullards. Already dismissing the Bucs as being an easy W, but also completely getting their scouting wrong, with terrible takes. I don’t know, I find that fun, as long as the Bucs win, anyways. If they’re that smug and then lose, they’re going to lose their minds, which is fantastic listening.

  27. Oxycondomns Says:

Baker and canales isnt the only saving grace . Team still has players like iron mike and godwin wirfs and the defense. Lot of saving graces and a head coach the team likes playing for

  28. NE Fan Says:

EEK, you won the divisionn last season, how did that work out? Your franchise stayement makes you uncreditialed to offer an opinion. FYI Jackoff Clark@ beat Philly and Miami and puff your chest out. Stp@ take the oil can from your arse, the sky will be falling shortly, play a worthy opponent then ejaculate on this site. Right now your riding a limp one.

  29. Crickett Baker Says:

I rarely comment on pictures but that one is the best I have ever seen of Canales. Just look at his eyes and his little smirk. With longer hair and a better ‘stach he would look like Captain Hook watching Tinkerbelle in a cage. Look at his eyes! He looks like a satisfied villain, I swear.

  30. garro Says:

That is indeed a big plus for a QB to have as many snaps in different situations in the NFL as he has. One of the reasons many other outstanding NFL QBs were hard to beat is because eventually they had seen and done most everything. You can’t fool the experienced QBs very often. Brady, Manning, Farve, Brees. could not be fooled because they had seen it all and usually knew the answers. Some of the best were crap in their first few seasons BTW.

I Don’t think Baker is in that league yet but he has been around and he has hopefully picked up some answers.

    Go Bucs!

Half those words are illegible you were steaming so bad when you typed.
Please tell us if the Bucs do win this game you give up.
Nobody like you. I’m pretty sure your mom even wants you to move out.
You keep spewing “Play a real team”, but are the Jets real?
What happens when you lose to Zach Wilson?
Unlatch from the nipple your mom is dry.
