Cody Mauch Injured

September 7th, 2023

Missed practice with injury.

This is not good.

Bucs projected starting right guard Cody Mauch suffered a back injury. The severity is unknown but he did not practice today, per today’s injury report.

A rookie offensive lineman with a messed up back? Not good at all.

The Bucs’ offensive line is already shaky with questions at each and every position.

At least the Bucs have an experienced right guard on the roster, Aaron Stinnie, who started the final three postseason games of the 2020 championship season when Alex Cappa injured his ankle.

In good injury news, first-round draft pick defensive tackle Calijah Kancey returned to the field for the first time since he suffered a calf injury early in training camp.

Kancey, however, was limited in practice.

f***… let’s hope it heals fast, get this man some icy hot

  2. All_da_way Says:

Sucks for Mauch but Stinnie has more experience so it isn’t the end of the world.

  3. Marine Buc Says:

Wow – the kicks to the groin just keep coming…

Devin White – I want to be traded – mental disorder
    Jenson – IR
    Gage – IR
    Kancey – serious calf injury
    Winfield – another injury
    Mike Evans – DIVA syndrome
Sneak Vaughn – I want to be cut so I will skip practice – syndrome

    Now Cody Mauch…

    Wow.

Start the season already – Let’s just get this over with already.

  6. Smashsquatch Says:

Makes me wonder 🤔 if this happened while going up against Kancey? A couple of rookies with great promise chomping at the bit to start game 1? Cody, rub some dirt on it. Let’s go!

  7. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Mike Evans – DIVA syndrome?

  8. Marine Buc Says:

    @ LUV

    I don’t have the strength…

Will copy and paste from my last comment.

    “Look – Just to clarify.

I appreciate Mike Evans. Everything he has done as a Buc has been amazing.

He is the best offensive player Tampa Bay fans have ever seen…

However – this recent drama and distraction caused by Mike Evans and his agent is 100% WRONG. You don’t announce publicly a contract dispute and call out the OWNERS of the franchise that has paid you over $100 MILLION dollars one week before the NFL season begins.

    That’s all.

I am NOT saying that Mike Evans has been a DIVA or plays like a DIVA.”

  9. Dan Says:

Bucs are a disaster, there is no reason for you losers to sit home every Sunday watching this foosball team lose

  10. Crazyhorse54 Says:

Dan, I have no plans to watch this team go 3-14.

  11. Lokog Says:

  13. unbelievable Says:

    Yikes

  14. PassingThru Says:

Really freaking bad news. There are so many small muscle groups in the back, all of which after you strain or tear one, pull on the other muscle groups which make the timetable for rehab potentially long.

I hope it is somehow minor. But this is terrible news.

  15. Joe in Michigan Says:

The key is that we don’t know the severity…I hurt all kinds of body parts when I was young and was fine in a few days.

  16. Bobby M. Says:

Stinnie seems to get the job done when called upon, we should be fine.

  17. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

Kyle better keep warm this could get ugly fast

  18. HC Grover Says:

Another routine par for Bowles Bucs.

Dan and Crazyhorse – There are 31 other teams in the league that you can be “fans” of. Find one that meets your lofty goals and go there. A real fan of a team doesn’t spew hate before the season has even started. We will miss you.

  21. HC Grover Says:

    Joe…say it ain’t so.

  22. Larrd Says:

I thought they might cut Stinnie, the camp he seemed to be having. He was good for a couple games back in the day, though.

Yes, guys get hurt playing football because of Todd Bowles, you dumbfounded dips-hit. Further proof you know nothing about football.

So, our 1,2,3,5 and a 6th round picks were injured before our first game.

Kancey, Mauch, Ya Ya, Dennis, Ramirez

    That’s not good.

  28. Doughboy Says:

Doesn’t really matter if we’re a great team. If we get to the playoffs Bowles will call a zero blitz coverage on the play of the game and get burned!

Yikes! Harsh. The man expresses frustration and you turn it into that. Ouch!

  31. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Injuries happen often…usually minor ones. But…there are phantom injuries as well. Things the team claim so they don’t have to explain too many rest days.

  32. Jimmy J Says:

So much for Bowles new training camp method.

  33. Marine Buc Says:

    @ Bonzai

Cool man. You also disagreed when I stated that “Sean Tucker is going to be our RB2″…

    lol.

  34. Ramblin_Man Says:

I read somewhere awhile back that the Bucs have one of the most knowledgeable fan bases. I guess they didn’t read the comment section of joebucsfan lol.

Marine would knock us down to at least the bottom 3 with his takes.

  35. HC Grover Says:

J.I.M. Is that you Todd? Joe in Mitch is a pathetic fool. Please go away and get your operation.

Ohhh no Dan thinks we are losers! What will we do? Hahaha what a juvenile D bag, Dan….. Bro, YOU are the true loser…. in Life.

  39. Craig Says:

Most back injuries are strained muscles, I have one. They usually take about three weeks.

Let’s get the small stuff over for the season, just in case there is a closing argument the Bucs can win.

  40. Derobbins Says:

FYI for whoever mentioned icy hot.

It doesn’t do anything to treat underlying issues. It doesn’t reduce swelling lice ice would.

Icy hot sends confusing signals to the nervous system (hot/cold AT THE SAME TIME!?) and can reduce the amount of perceived pain you feel.

  41. Bojim Says:

    Gaaaaaaa!!!

  42. FairMinded Says:

Not trying to start any rumors BUT I’ve never seen Mauch and Cancey in the same room at the same time …coinkidink? Or same guy 🤔

  43. Pelsbuc61 Says:

I don’t plan on watching many Bucs games while lifeless Bowles is the HC. If the Bucs are 1-3 or worse at the bye, it should be time to trade Evans and White and any other player that put themselves above the team. Knowing how strapped the Bucs are bc of the Super Bowl spending spree, their timing really sucks.

  44. IrishTony Says:

Most of these posters are trolls. Come on injuries happen. Suddenly Maych is the second coming of Marpet! We don’t even know the severity but Stinnie is more than capable. I’m confident we win this weekend.

  45. Voice of Truth Says:

The one position we actually have depth is Guard, thankfully. Stinnie and Leverett have both proven capable in real game action. But you have to pull someone up for game day as Nick is the backup C

Hope the kid Mauch gets healthy soon – he plays stronger than his size indicates – wasn’t happy with him at draft time but he has shown he belongs thus far and quicker than Cappa or Goedke did

  46. Woodenman Says:

Good one 6. If your not watchin what you doing . We don’t have to worry about you commenting after the game.

  47. gmoney Says:

The Mike Evans Diva syndrome is a Johnny come lately take.

Big Mike has taken pay cuts to bring other players back. Just wants to finish his Career in Tampa. If you saw his statement he said no matter the outcome he is looking forward to a good year with the Bucs.

  48. unbelievable Says:

^ Yup. He just wants some security for another couple of years.

Man I’m watching Mahomes just fly down the field doing a 2 minute drill right now… huge completion to Justin Watson. I wonder why that kid could never put it together while he was a Buc.

Did he get on Brady’s bad side, and that was the end for him?

  49. August 1976 Buc Says:

The O Line was a disaster last year, and is still unsettled, with unproven players.
Football is about the Line of Scrimmage. O Line D Line, and the Bucs are most likely on their way to a 4-7 win season. Enjoy the wins, its a bumpy road ahead.

The Bucs need a new Talent cycle and Head Coach, hopefully it does not take another 5-10 years to be a winning team again.

    GO BUCS!!!!

  50. bucs107 Says:

    Oh God sky is falling!!!
Joe not the end of the world I bet he plays

  51. DBS Says:

@gmoney. Please show me any where in writing Evans has taken any kind of pay cut. You can’t and never will. He only restructured his contract.

  52. Joe Says:

Did he get on Brady’s bad side, and that was the end for him?

Yup. And he was dinged up.

  53. Pewter Power Says:

What’s up with these injured draft picks this year. It’s says something that we think we need Cody over these vets

  54. billyboy Says:

Trade Evans godwin and shaq now for 3 2nd round picks and draft 3 oline man our whole oline excpet for wirfs are terrible!!! whats the point anyways of having 2 great wrs if you cant block to throw to them..

  55. August 1976 Buc Says:

Lol lol, the sky has been falling since T Bowles press conference to be Head Coach. Things just go wrong, T Bowles is a decent guy, but as a Head Coach, things just go wrong, right wrong or indifferent, the trend is down.
Since the Glazers generally wait until the end of a season to do house cleaning, most likely Jan or Feb 2024 there will be another press conference for a new head coach.

Actually the sky is not falling, it already fell.

    Go BUCS!!!

Brady’s pick six in his 1st game as a Buc, came on a pass to Watson, and I believe it happened again that season with Watson. .

    Poor technique and no fire.

We definitely should have given him a fat extension.

  66. Todd Rolls Says:

    The new jason odom??

  67. Todd Rolls Says:

Oh yeah Donovan smith still sucks

  68. D-Rome Says:

Speaking of offense line, Donovan Smith is going to single handedly keep the Chiefs out of a Super Bowl this season.

  69. Bobby Says:

Back injury, jeez, even if he is able to play i bet that back injury affects Cody all season. I thought these guy’s condition themselves all offseason. Seems that is not the case if all these injuries keep happening. Well the o-line is already a question mark with all of the starters playing. Miss anyone of them of this season will get ugly really fast. I like Baker, but doesn’t seem like he is going to be playing with a even a solid o-line this season. Not sure how he can succeed if he consistently has rushers up the middle and in his face every other play. Damn shame, Go Bucs

Lets see, I have been a fan since the Summer of 1976 when the stickers were out from McDonalds, “The Bucs are Coming” Yellow and red colored.
Being a fan is based on personal choice, and what someone says is not based on following what others want to hear or not. It is based on whatever the fan thinks.

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  71. Crack3rK Says:

Question marks at every position on the line? Hyperbole? Wirfs a question mark? Come on. Hainsey? We know what he is and he play 17 games.

  72. Bobby Says:

Yea I saw that, Donovan Smith took that holding penalty for KC at near 2 min mark of the game. Damn that hurt KC. Regardless of anyone’s negative opinion for Donovan Smith. Buc fans are fair when judging him during his time hear. He was here for along time in Tampa as a starter too. Donovan Smith is an iron man, he almost never misses games and is solid for majority of them. He was pro bowl level during the 2020 SB year though. Hey, looking at the Bucs o-line right now and this season. I miss Donovan Smith in there right now. If Smith was getting paid 15 mil like he was last season. He would still be a Buc right now. Bucs had to clear cap room so there went Smith. I wish Donovan Smith and his family all the best this season and forward. Thank you for your all the years you gave us Buc fans and the Buccaneers.

  73. Bobby Says:

Meant to say Buc fans are not fair when judging Donovan Smith time as a Buccaneer

  74. Rusty Shackleford Says:

Human Turnstile with a critical holding call for the Chiefs and yet, Joe thinks Donovan Smith was a good tackle, lol.

  75. Bobby Says:

Meant to say if Smith was not getting paid 15 mil like last season he would still be a Buccaneer

  76. DoooshLaRue Says:

Watching the Lions beat the Chiefs gave me hope that if the Lions new OC can make Jared Goff sorry as look good then maybe our new OC can make baker mayfield sorry as look good too

    ============

The Lions offense scored 14 points.

And Goff is a better QB than Mayfield. And I’m no fan of Goff.

  81. Buccos Says:

And DS76 is now DS79 but still committed the holding penalty at the most critical moment of the game and cost his team the win. He actually played pretty well but can a leopard actually change his spots? The answer is no. Better luck next week Donnie

  82. BillyBucco Says:

1 upset already and Mahomes looked shaky at times.
I guess Baker can’t possibly play better?
    I guarantee you he does.
    Those WRs are trash.
KC gonna lose some games while Jones watches from his suite.

  83. Rod Munch Says:

Yeah, Smith cost the Chiefs that game, not the WR’s dropping everything. LOL!

The hatred that these low-IQers have for people is just unbelievable. Wow, a tackle got a holding call while starting his first game in a new offense. Wow, that’s literally never happened. What a bust.

  84. Mark A Swygert Says:

I watched the game tonight and was surprised that KC RT Jamar Williams seemed to get away with lining up behind the line of scrimmage on nearly every passing play. I was shocked that Detroit never complained about it. Finally got called for something when it was 4th and 20 and made it 4th and 25. I think he thought it was the only way he could handle Aidan Hutchingson.

  85. HC Grover Says:

Watched the highlights of Lions game. KC had the drops.

  86. steele Says:

Agree, MA Swygert. KC RT was either lined up behind or jumped early throughout the game, with no calls. Amusing also that Donovan Smith contributed to their failure on their last possession. In week 1, it’s always a crapshoot, but this game just goes to prove that anything can happen, “top” teams like KC aren’t indestructible, and “bad” teams like Detroit can improve. Gee, does that mean there’s hope for the Bucs, or is that dumpster on the horizon closer than it appears?

As for the OL. Bad news about Mauch, but the Stinner should be able to manage. If Logan Hall didn’t completely wreck him a year ago.

  87. Gossiping hen talk Says:

Its the few fans that support that keep me reading the rest of the bs can go sick prick till da neck pops

  88. Mike C Says:

Rod, smh Goff maybe better than Baker, but it ain’t by much. And yeah, don’t blame a guy when he screws up at a critical moment AGAIN.

  89. gofortheface30 Says:

Dan – I actually agree with you, BUT I love football in general. I could not be any more excited for Jets/Bills, Steelers/Niners, Dolphins/Chargers. I could not be any more excited for DFS and my delusions of granduer (sp) that this could finally be the day I win a cool million or even 100 grand. Whatevs, ii love football sundays.

  90. BucYou Says:

Tampa should’ve drafted Tyler Linderbaum in the 1st instead of taking Logan Hall in the 2nd

  91. Buccos Says:

I wouldn’t expect a guy who calls himself Rod Munch to understand the game of football. So there’s that. But Donnie Boy shat the bed once again. Just glad it wasn’t for my team for a change

  92. Gofortheface30 Says:

Goff a sorry ass? Some of you were surely born with fetal alcohol syndrome. Straight up mongoloid, remedial level take. The guy throws for 4k yards regularly with a great TD to INT ratio and was the primary driver for the Lions turnaround last yr. The mfer threw for 4500 yards and 30 TD’s and single digit INT’s. He is arguably a top 10 QB. Baker is LIGHT YEARS from that level of production

  93. Mike C Says:

And that’s why the QB swap worked for LA? Because they downgraded the QB position? They kicked him out of LA because he ain’t the guy. Sure he will put up stats for you, But In the clutch, Nah. Baker was that guy in 2020 before injuries with the Browns (he didn’t sh!t the bed in the playoffs, his team did[much like the chiefs team did to Pat in the SB vs the Bucs]). Look I agree that Goth is better than Baker, but again, it ain’t by that much.

  94. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

If mauch’s back problem is lower back; he may look into an inversion table. Basically one hangs upsidedown like a bat, and this straiteneds out the spine and healing comes faster then in my situation, almost immediately. It’s worked here for a long time. Of coarse I’m no offensive lineman…

  95. gofortheface30 Says:

Mike C – I think your point is pretty fair and sensible, but hindsight is always 20/20 because I think we can say definitively that the trade worked out well for both sides equally. In the end, the Rams are going to go 3-14 this yr with Stafford completely falling off a cliff, while Goff is going to have a Pro Bowl Year, Taking a moribund franchise like the Lions in to relevancy is EXTREMELY impressive. Goff DID take the Rams to the Superbowl too, the difference is he was against Belichick and Brady and I dont believe they had Jalen Ramsey either.

Your point about Baker – I agree. He is much more talented physically than Trask, and has proven that he can put together a fantastic yr. He went to a nw a complex system with LA and played well. I also like his confidence and moxie. I think people should be on board with him or at minimum give him a chance.

  96. J.J.swat Says:

    Welp,

Seems like our ceiling is probably 7 to 9 wins.
If the o line succeeds and baker plays well. And
    Godwin and evans stay healthy.

The floor however could be very low. Think lovie smith
    2014 season.

  97. Rod Munch Says:

    Gofortheface30 Says:
Goff a sorry ass? … He is arguably a top 10 QB. Baker is LIGHT YEARS from that level of production

    ———

First, when you said Goff is a top 10, I literally LOL! For real, literally out loud, I laughed. Maybe he’s in the top 10 in the NFC, but that’s only because the NFC has some really bad QBs, like Mayfield, in it.

  98. Troy W. Says:

Questions at “each and every position” on the o-line JoeBucsFan??
