Chris Godwin Just Keeps Producing

September 18th, 2023

Death, taxes and Chris Godwin.

Joe was speaking this morning with good friend Sean Sullivan, the general manager of Bill Currie Ford, and one topic was training camp.

Joe noted that, despite Allen Iverson’s contention, guys who ball out in practice often ball out in games. Joe cited examples from this summer.

Mike Evans in training camp was above the rim. He may have had his best camp. Antoine Winfield, until he was dinged up , was all over the field. And Joe also recalls some scrub undrafted rookie often popped up in his daily notes roundup, some dude named “Christian Izien.”

Funny how these guys who dominated training camp (Izien didn’t exactly “dominate,” but you get the drift) carried over their practice play into games.

Oh yeah, there was another guy head and shoulders better than most. That was Chris Godwin.

Joe likes to joke, only half-kiddingly, that whenever Godwin made a play in training camp — which was often — Joe thought, “What knee?”

(Godwin didn’t have a Pro Bowl season last year largely because he was rehabbing his surgically repaired knee.)

Godwin simply produces game in and game out. Consider this nugget from the Bucs’ media relations staff:

WR Chris Godwin brought in five receptions for 58 yards, logging his 16th consecutive game with five-or-more receptions. His streak of 16 such games is the longest streak in franchise history and ties Marvin Harrison for the 13th-longest such streak in NFL history. In addition, Godwin extended his own league-leading streak of consecutive games with 50-or-more receiving yards to 10 straight games.

Godwin is about as dependable as you will find in the NFL. All he does is come to work and produce. Week after week after week.

You know, some fans wonder why folks don’t consider Evans an elite receiver or why Godwin doesn’t get his props. Joe thinks the answer is simple.

The squeaky wheel gets the grease. The divas make noise and it’s noticed. Evans and Godwin, borderline quiet guys, aren’t divas so they don’t bark to get attention.

All that duo does is let their play do all the yapping.

And it should be pointed out that his knee wasn’t injured during a non contact situation or turf related. It was the victim of a spearing Saint LB looking to hurt him. The guy is tough as they come.

Would you consider Justin Jefferson a diva, he is also asking for a contract, but still balling, he is elite and the only noise he makes is on the field and “the gritty” dance. Don’t misunderstand, there are elite receivers that grind like ours do – but I am team ME13 and CG14

    Godwin is MONEY!

So does Hainsey….look at the film

Agree about the squeaky wheel and the Divas who play WR. The Bucs are blessed to have not one but two awesome WR’s who are team guys.

Wish he got that TD this past weekend! Great player.

Seems like every time Godwin catches the ball, it’s for a first down.

Best 1-2 receiver duo in the league. Sign Evans to a deal .Let’s keep the train rolling..Godwin and Evans are both elite in all aspects of the game, getting open, making big and splash plays, and Godwin catches just about everything thrown his way, they block and are team players.. we are fortunate. I think every ball Godwin caught week one was on 3rd down and the catch beat the end of the game was truly fantastic and it looks Baker Mayfield is getting very comfortable throwing to these guys and we went from cast off bottom feeders according to most media outlets after signing Mayfield.. What are they saying now???? The production is great and no Turnovers and elite defense O-Line looked better yesterday and defense is looking elite…I think this team is for real .They will BEAT the Eagles next Week ! Let’s F….g Go!!!!!!

Not going to keep both. Chris is going to want a pay raise the following year. Who do you keep?

I was thinking the same thing earlier today. We perhaps under appreciate what he does for this team. I will add that he does the dirty work as well. Blocking and he took a couple of hard shots this week.

    Go Bucs!

ME13 and CG14 are class acts off the field as well as friends. They both have SB rings now, but if anyone can figure out $$ how to keep them here together, it’s Jason Licht. Go Bucs!!
