Bucs Were “Hitting Everything”

September 12th, 2023

Todd Bowles

Joe really enjoys former NFL offensive lineman Brian Baldinger’s video breakdowns of players and teams he posts on X. Usually, he gives out props within those videos..

Not today.

Baldinger sent a special message to the Bucs in general and to Todd Bowles indirectly, noting Baldinger really, really enjoyed the defensive gameplan and its execution.

Specifically the execution.

Baldinger twittered that the Bucs’ defense was hitting everything that moves.

That’s what you need to do if the offense is going to sputter — and it did in the first half on Sunday.

Joe saw a defense with the mentality of taking over the game and giving their offense opportunities to get on track.

That’s exactly what happened in the fourth quarter.

Love to see it when the Bucs play good Defense!

  2. stpetebucfan Says:

If this team stays healthy and plays with the same hair on fire urgency of Sunday’s game this team WILL make the playoffs.

  3. Iamnotu Says:

Defense has a LOT of potential. Props to Licht and Bowles for getting the studs to run it. Miss Whitehead, though. 3 picks in the season opener!?!

  4. 420Kitty Says:

No word on 3 INTs for #3?

  5. Obvious Says:

We have the Tools to build a Winning Season. We need injury Luck. OK, we need A LOT of luck especially in certain “thin areas”.

And we NEED Baker to STAY ON TRACK! If he’s found a winning formula with the dinky dunk… FINE! And I gotta give PROPS to the ENTIRE TEAM for NOT backing down even ONE BLADE OF GRASS in that fight! WILL POWER won that game and make NO MISTAKE ABOUT IT! The TEAM Won That game! And let’s KEEP BEING HONEST, it took an ENTIRE TEAM EFFORT…

Well, our team was STRONGER OVERALL THAN THEIR TEAM! JUSTS THE FACTS….

    Stay Focused Baker.. Stay Focused

  6. PSL Bob Says:

Watching at home I couldn’t believe how good the tackling was. There were a few misses in the second half as players tired a bit, but in the first half it was terrific. Other than a few big catches by Jefferson, very few yards after the catch.

  7. EEK Says:

Devin White rag dolling K Cousins in the red zone was awesome

  8. Duane in Sanford Says:

Those guys were flying and hitting on Sunday. They actually were Minnesota ready. Figuring out a way to slow Jefferson down in the second half was the hallmark of a Bowles defense. I can get behind a team that plays hard and for 60 minutes. Looking forward to da Bears next.

  9. Crickett Baker Says:

It was such a TEAM win. The defense helped out the offense then the offense got rested and came in strong. I honestly felt that they were playing more together than I have seen in a long time. I sure hope they keep it up and expand on it!

  10. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Devin White was playing like his a$$ was on fire……right from the get-go.

  11. Durango 95 Says:

Thought they tackled really well. Couple of hiccups here and there but overall very sharp. Hope they can keep that going throughout.

  12. HC Grover Says:

They did good but what won the game was the offside blunder on the FG that we converted from 3 to 7 points.

  13. Allen Lofton Says:

Bucs play with heart like they did with the Vikings look Bears – time to give them a Green Bay beating.

  14. Jonathan Says:

Not sure where to post this but did anyone see the stationary flip #83 did with 5 seconds left in the game? It was awesome but could have stopped the clock for a celebration penalty?

  15. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Preach Baldy!

  16. DBS Says:

Which mean what HC Grover? OH yes. The team with the most points on the board won. Because the offense had to come back out and score the 7 and not get it picked or screw it up in any way.

  17. Boss Says:

they looked very solid. Should have won by more though…….3 turnovers and tied at the half?

I know, I know….but I was concerned at the 1/2. The offense has to get up to speed. ME needs to remember to catch balls that are not 10 yard curl routes!

If that’s all he has left we can get a rookie to do that!

  18. JeffreyLane77 Says:

I was a little concerned in the first half. Bowles was really aggressive with his play calling. It was only a matter of time before Minnesota tried to use that to thier advantage. Minnesota started throwing quick routes to the Flats. They tried what looked like a screen pass. Tried a couple draw plays. Trying to take advantage. It didn’t really work. Defense played well.

I fully expected the offense to sputter a bit. New coordinator, new offense, new qb, new Oline.

  19. Brandon Says:

Where are all the Get Rid of White turds now? Dude was playing like a savage on Sunday. How dare people want to get their contracts extended, right? You knee jerk fans need to STFU. We had people crying because Licht drafted a guard that might have missed week one due to injury or a defensive tackle… we had people blaming the training staff because Winfield couldn’t play in the preseason game. I’m thankful I don’t live in Florida and have to deal with know nothing fans at the gym and work. The average football fan seems to be extremely low IQ when it comes to football.

  20. CTBucs Says:

The defense is going to be our backbone, and considering how young they are…. I totally understand the hold-off on extending Mike. If we can bring back White and Winfield in their prime, it might mean losing an older WR. It’s going to cost about $ 30-35m to bring them both back. And with the Wirfs extension, it’s going to be tight

  21. Jack Clark Says:

Todd Bowels actually looked really happy during his postgame press conference. He was very proud of his team and it looked like he was trying to hold back his smile while answering the interview questions. I’m happy for him

  22. Tucker Says:

NFL rankings came out bucs beat the vikings but are ranked well below them wow here we go again.

  23. RGA Says:

The defense came up with critical stops at the end, they did give up 344 yards passing to Cousins. While they came up big in the 4th quarter, there is plenty of room for improvement. Perhaps setting up the right defense and not that zone they used in the first half.

  24. Joe Says:

No word on 3 INTs for #3?

    ???

  25. BucU Says:

I hope the national media keeps disrespecting this team. They played angry. The hitting was ferocious.

  26. Irishmist Says:

Now if someone could only teach Vea to limit his hits to guys on the other team.

  27. Rod Munch Says:

Listening to some Bears podcasts just to get a feel for what’s coming up…

They said according to PFF stats, vs the Vikings, the Bucs ran zone 85% of the time.

That lines up pretty much exactly with what I thought I saw.

And we might see even more zone defense from the Bucs this week as, according to those Bears podcast, Fields struggles mightily vs zone.

So while I hate the loose soft zone the Bucs play, this week it sounds like it’s the right thing to do.

But you got $30m in corners out there, playing a soft zone where everyone is 10 yards away from the LOS. I don’t get it, but if it works, then fantastic.

  28. Buccos Says:

Beast mode. Well done. Let’s make the NFC South the black and blue division. Make them feel like they were in a brawl

  29. Sly Pirate Says:

    Devin White, Logan Hall, AWjr
At least one of those guys was in on nearly every play. BEASTS!
