“Bring On Jameis Winston!”

September 30th, 2023

Former Bucs guard thinks Bucs’ defense will eat Sunday.

As usual, former Bucs guard and popular sports radio personality Ian Beckles has thoughts about the Bucs this week, looking both backward and ahead.

As usual, Joe has highlights from Beckles’ podcast “In the Trenches.”

* On the loss to the Eagles Monday night. “[Philadelphia is] a better football team. A more established football team. They had it together.”

* On the Bucs defense. “If we don’t stop the rush we are not that good defensively. Because we are not good enough rushing the passer. We are just not. We have to get teams one-dimensional.”

* Can’t blame the loss on Baker Mayfield. “I didn’t see anything that Baker Mayfield could have done to make [the offense] better.”

* Despite not being able to run the ball, Beckles wants the Bucs to run the ball. “I don’t think the Buccaneers can win many football game throwing the ball 60-70 percent of the time.”

* Mayfield may be forcing balls to Mike Evans. “I think Baker may be looking at Mike Evans too much. I think you have to get [Chris] Godwin more involved.”

* Loved the game Greg Gaines had Monday. “Gaines was rag-dolling [Jason] Kelce. Vita Vea is not healthy. He didn’t play his normal self.”

* Very impressed with Jake Camarda, even though he is a punter. “I don’t want my punter being a game MVP. But he is a bad boy.”

* Thinks Mayfield has to play over his head for Bucs to be successful. “Baker Mayfield made some mistakes. We will see that again. Problem is, the Bucs are not built to overcome mistakes. Too many drops. You have to help Baker out. After two mediocre games I heard people saying they need to re-sign him. Are you sh!tting me? Put out two more of those poopers out there they are going to be yelling for [Kyle] Trask.

* Beckles is fed up with Rachaad White. “I don’t get Rachaad White. How many years has he been here? I don’t see it. He doesn’t hit the hole — hit the damn hole! I don’t see it.”

* Morally offended with Joe Tryon-Shoyinka. “I could probably do a half-hour on JTS, Joe Tryon-Shoyinka. I don’t hear many people defending Joe Tryon-Shoyinka. He looked like he didn’t want to be there. I don’t get it. That experiment to me should be done. Don’t put him on the field. YaYa Diaby? Way better. Way better. He’s got some dawg in him. Give him more reps! JTS ain’t got no dawg in him. Dawgless. All those chances to make plays you do nothing. Run over somebody! What have you done? … Kid can’t play. We are too long into this experiment to expect a turnaround.

* Gave Devin White love for gutting it out saying he could tell White “wasn’t right.”

* Questioned if the Bucs’ heads were in the game. “We didn’t look like a smart football team.”

* Tristan Wirfs is mortal. “Tristan Wirfs is not the same player at left tackle than he is at right. He is still pretty darn good but a couple of plays, he didn’t look right. He has a standard. His standard is wicked high.”

* Beckles is salivating for Sunday when the Bucs play in New Orleans. “Bring on Jameis Winston! This is soap opera stuff. Our defense will kill Jameis Winston. I don’t know if the defense will allow Jameis to win.”

Time to get back on track. Both teams hate each other!

    “Bring on Jameis Winston!”
    .
    .

Break his W off at the root and feed it to him!

  3. bucsince79 aka bumanner Says:

I’m not worried about Winston… I am worried about Kamara & Bucs killer Hill…

  4. Lt. Dan Says:

Of course Vita Vea is not healthy. Of course Jamel Dean is not healthy. Of course Carlton Davis is not healthy. Of course Devin White is not healthy. Of course Kancey is not health and hasn’t been since shortly after he was drafted. Changes to the Bucs strength and condition folks anyone?

  5. stpetebucfan Says:

I am worried about Fameis. While I consider him a cement head lacking in character he does have an arm, and while he may be the slowest player on the field he does have escapability in the pocket. JW is an athlete for sure.

He obviously will be incredibly motivated and he’s got WR’s that are very talented.

Two things that might turn the tide for the Bucs with Fameis…he might try too hard and he’s playing behind a mediocre to poor OL. He has the same challenge as Mayfield…great targets..poor protection.

I may disrespect Fameis off the field but he has his moments both bad and good on the field. If good Fameis shows up and the Bucs rush doesn’t improve he might just go off!

  6. Jack Clark Says:

I agree with all Ian Beckles points. He sounds like a reasonable man

  7. BillyBucco Says:

Just please for the love of God RUN some misdirection plays.
I don’t care if it’s fake jet sweeps or reverses or what it is, but we HAVE to put liable skill positions IN MOTION with the ability to go that way if needed.
This offense was supposed to ne vanilla in n the preseason and now it looks like coconut which is worse IMO.
Where is the TE run to Otton?
We pitched the ball to White ONE time?
    Hardly ran any RB screens?
Baker never swings it wide to either RB to outflank the LBs?
This is what tires down a defense.
NOT running the ball up the freaking middle.
    I’m NOT impressed!!!!
    At All!!!!!

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We have to stop 2 players to win…..Olave….put Davis on him…..and Hill….when he’s in, he gets the ball….STOP HIM!!!….I’m thinking LVD…..

  9. Kgh4life Says:

Olave is a speedy reciever, a better match-up might be Macullum. By the way, I’m reading reports that Carr might play.

  10. jehzsa Says:

If Rachaad White hits the hole, he will be so surprised that he will freeze…

  11. Craig Says:

Should have seen the lack of football strength in JTS from the way he walked away from his senior season in college. Football is a means to an end for him, not a passion.

Rachaad needs to be sat down so he can think about his efforts. Sneak spent all of college going through slim seams, give him a real chance for once.

Even with only a decent pass rush Jameis will be running all day, their line is horrid, even compared to ours.

Canales is getting stale, he needs to throw some fresh stuff out there.

  12. Jeff Says:

I see JW having a big day. NO 24 Bucs 13

  13. Dacake Says:

Beckles needs to be on this website more. This is already the best website, but more Beckles would make it even better.

Changes to the Bucs strength and condition folks anyone?
    ———————————————————————————
Before you ask that question you first have to make a case that the cause of so many injuries to the players has anything to do with the strength and conditioning staff. And you haven’t done that.

One can be an elite athlete in top shape and get injured when playing in the NFL. Inadequate conditioning can make one more vulnerable to injuries but where is there any evidence for that?

  15. geno711 Says:

Bucs rush EPA so far this year is -.172.

EPA stands for Expected Points Added. It measures the impact a play has on a team’s expected scoring. Positive is good – negative is bad.

The Bucs are 8th worst on EPA this season.

  16. geno711 Says:

Seems to me that lots of DBs are injured on every team every year. It is a hard position to keep healthy. That is why you always try to create depth there.

Chicago Bears will be missing their top CB and Safety tomorrow. Insider bet that Russell Wilson has his best day ever as a Bronco tomorrow.

  17. optimisticbucsfan Says:

    Carr very well could play.

  18. TampaBayBucsFanSince1976 Says:

I agree Ian in regards to Rachaad White as a runner-I don’t see it either. ROJO is a home run threat runner who hits the hole hard-Why is Jason Licht not bringing him on the roster at league minimum ?????????

  19. BA’s Red Pen Says:

Jamis will throw four Touchdowns tomorrow, two of them will be pick 6’s.

  20. Glass Half Full Guy Says:

It’s human nature to seek out opinions that mirror your own for positive reinforcement. That’s why ppl watch certain political news channels over another or like to read positive reviews of movies or music that they love, etc.

I personally like to hear opposing views and opinions as much as ones that I agree with. You know, to maybe learn something. That’s one of the things I love some much about this here JBF site. Not only the Joes and Ira’s informed takes, but wide range of fan comments and thoughts and insights from other sources like this one from Beckles.

But dammit if I don’t 100% agree with Ian this time. Even tho his comments aren’t all “rah rah” and “homer” stuff, it’s straight talk, both good and bad about our team.

My time online is limited so I just come here and read everything first and, if I have time leftover, I’ll check out some other sources. Or porn. Probably, porn.

  21. Cousin Eddy Says:

Beckles ~ “I didn’t see anything that Baker Mayfield could have done to make the offense better.”

Scoring 4 points in the first 3 quarters would have been better.

  22. Cousin Eddy Says:

BA’s Red Pen ~ “Jamis will throw four Touchdowns tomorrow, two of them will be pick 6’s.”

    LMAO

  23. Bill in Seminole Says:

“Bring on Jameis Winston?” How many times have we looked forward to playing a team with a QB that was mediocre, only to see that QB play like a Hall-of-Famer against us.

  24. westernbuc Says:

Pretty sure Gaines was our worst rated defensive player according to PFF. But he seemed like he was making plays all night to me. Guy seems like a real gem

  25. Mike Johnson Says:

I’m reading all of these Bring on Jay-miss comments. Be careful what you wish for. Our Bucs have a dismal record against backups.

  26. David Says:

Not sure if anybody is watching Caleb Williams today, but… If the Buccaneers want their franchise QB for the next dozen years or more, they absolutely need to trade up and get this kid. He is a superstar.

  27. Lauretta A Boyer Says:

Keep Mike Evans/13 Cool 😎 Calm and Collected the ENTIRE game with ⚜️!!! NO TROUBLE FOR MIKE!!!!!🏴‍☠️♥️

  28. HC Grover Says:

    Nice fish.

  29. Mr. Editor Says:

Isn’t playing Carr now a “game time decision”?

  30. unbelievable Says:

    Lol glass half full guy.

Bucs have to show they can be PHYSICAL.

And for JTS and R. White, they either simply can’t, or just won’t. Either way, you don’t deserve to start.

Looking further ahead- if Vea and White are injured for a while, this team is pretty much effed. They’re way too critical to our run defense to have those guys operating at only 50%. Things could go south real quick.

  31. Rod Munch Says:

“Despite not being able to run the ball, Beckles wants the Bucs to run the ball.”

That’s the amazing type of insight you get from Beckles. Just keep banging your head against a brick wall, and sooner or later, you’ll break those bricks if you have enough faith and desire. So you just keep doing that, and good luck.

  32. EternalSon Says:

Like him or not, respect his play or not, Winston absolutely has it in him as a wildcard to do just about anything.

I don’t think you can rule out anything with him.

    Let’s go Bucs!!

  33. Stanglassman Says:

It’s looking more like Carr will be the starter Sunday. Reports are that he practiced today without any limits. I like are chances better against Carr. Winston could throw 3 picks or he could lite you up for 3TDs and 400 yards. Carr just doesn’t have that kind of ceiling.

  34. Bucs13 Says:

Just watched a video of Tom Brady at some trading card place, and he had a Baker Mayfield card and held it up and said Baker was having a good year. He also had a Mike Evans card. I wish people would stop the narrative that Tom somehow doesn’t want Baker and team to succeed. Tom’s legacy with the Bucs is secured just like Patriots. I doubt there’s any insecurity on his part. He still supports the team. If only he knew the awful slander he’s receiving from some fans. Lol

  35. R. Strader Says:

Where is the Bucs front office’s head?
Bring back Playoff Lenny. We need a big tough runner to compliment White!

    Rose S.

  36. garro Says:

    Skip this Bozo headline hunter.

    Go Bucs!
