Where’s Logan Hall?

August 20th, 2023

Logan Hall at the Bucs’ underwear football practice on Thursday.

With veteran defensive tackle Vita Vea resting tonight and last week, along with injured first-round-pick rookie Calijah Kancey, Joe was eager to see what Logan Hall would deliver in their absences during the first two preseason games.

To date, Hall hasn’t landed in a box score and isn’t looking like a No. 33 overall pick (2022) should against preseason competition.

Interestingly, head coach/defensive guru Todd Bowles has talked openly about fierce competition at the outside linebacker/edge rusher position. Hall, once upon a time, was considered a potential edge player but that seems to be old news.

The Bucs drafted Kancey and added veteran free agent Greg Gaines, who rested with starters in Preseason Game 1 but played a little tonight against the Jets. Those weren’t great signs for Hall, and then the Bucs brought back veteran DT Will Gholston as training camp began.

As Joe talked about on the Ira Kaufman Podcast many weeks ago, perhaps Gholston was brought in because of concerns about Hall.

Through two preseason games, Joe can’t shake that thought.

    Hall was a reach

  2. Pewter Power Says:

    Where’s Logan Hall?

That’s an easy question to answer. He’s usually on the ground

  3. BoricuaBucfan Says:

Bust. What were they seeing when they scouted this bum cause all he has shown that he should’ve been an undrafted

  4. Knucknbuc Says:

He’s not good haven’t saw one thing out of him. If he’s starting over gholston it’s just because he’s a 2nd round pick. Hell #91 has been way more noticeable and productive then hall

  5. Nate Says:

    I’d say cut him

  6. JayBuc Says:

Logan Hall shouldn’t even be on this team anymore. We can get an undrafted DT who’s younger and has a higher motor for way cheaper

  7. MadMax Says:

Some guys just dont transition well to the NFL. He looked good in college, long arms to get to the QB, seemed to have power. Maybe he got lazy, I dont know. Cant pick a winner every time.

  8. Mike S Says:

We were all told Hall was going to make the jump this year.

Lets be a little more patient with him.

  9. Pewter Power Says:

Maybe he’s a 4-3 guy because he definitely gets manhandled rep after rep in this defense

  10. Obvious Says:

    Did he play tonight?

O BTW, did you guys hear Bowles Flat Out Lie about the QB competition? Bowles SAID…

That o yeah, Baker was going in BUT after “John got hurt”, and since Kyle was ALREADY WARM WE JUST PUT HIM BACK IN…… Let that sink in for just a second..

If Baker was going in, in the first place, THEN WHY WAS “JOHN” In Infront of Baker??????? Because IF BAKER WAS GOING TO PLAY, HE CERTAINLY WOULD HAVE GONE IN INFRONT OF “JOHN”! NOT AFTER AS IN THE CLEAN UP CREW!¡!!

A BOLD FACE LIE FROM YOUR HEAD COACH CAUGHT ON CAMERA! CONGRATULATIONS AND WHAT A GIFT TOAD BOWLES TRULY IS 👏 🎁

    LIER!!!!

  11. Coburn Says:

We suck at drafting dline. Only decent one was vea so far. Hopefully someone from this year’s class pans out. Jts and hall both seem like major duds.

  12. J Says:

Sounds like you’re quite passionate about Bowles being a liar. I’ll have to see what ALL THE FUSS IS ABOUT.

  13. BUCman Says:

Wow, Hall got bullied so bad it was embarrassing! He was abused and confused out there. He looks like a high school boy out there. Unfortunately once again I have to say I told ya so! I was screaming at the TV on draft night for them to NOT draft him but they were trying to fill a specific need and reached terribly to draft him. Jason….lesson learned I hope.

  14. RagingBrisket Says:

Logan Hall’s greatest accomplishment was ending the career of our pro bowl center.
    Congratulations Licht

  15. Rod Munch Says:

“The Bucs drafted Kancey and added veteran free agent Greg Gaines, who rested with starters in Preseason Game 1 but played a little tonight against the Jets.”

I’m pretty sure I saw Gaines out there in the 4th quarter tonight. It stuck out since you wouldn’t expect to see him still in the game. I went and double checked they didn’t have some other white guy named Gaines, and nope, it was him.

  16. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Funny, we use to have the exact same conversation about William Gholston back in the day.

Give the kids time to develop.

  17. Voice of Truth Says:

He is invisible. They have been trying to give him Wills job for two years and he can’t handle it

    Cut bait already

  18. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Voice of Truth, I get the impatience.

We all want the Bucs to be at their best, every single game. But think about Gholston. The guy faced his fair share of doubters, and look where he ended up. Hall’s got potential; he just needs to dig deep and find it. We’ve seen players turn it around before. Let’s not throw in the towel just yet.

We’re all in this together. Go Bucs!🏈

  19. Fansince76 Says:

I never liked this pick from day 1 and thought he would be a bust.
I still hope I’m wrong and the light somehow comes on for him but i just don’t see that fire in him to make a play the way you can see it already in Kancey. Thank god they brought Gholston back to mitigate the lackadaisical play of Hall.

  20. Hodad Says:

Good news is Kancey looked chipper moving around on the sideline. Big UCF fan watched Hall, and Houston play the Knights. Hall always stood out, looked like a decent prospect. Just hasn’t looked the same in the NFL. The draft truely can be a crap shoot. Problem is, he was over drafted, now what do you do with him?

  21. Frank Pillow Says:

He is a player without an NFL position. He lacks functional strength to hold up inside and is too rigid and slow twitchy for the outside.

  22. garro Says:

Can Hall really be looking that bad? How many snaps?

I noticed he and Gaines in the game but not showing up on the stat sheet against 2s and 3s?

I really don’t know how he can’t be better than last year after adding weight and hopefully strength.

    Go Bucs!

  23. All_da_way Says:

    Hall is MR. invisible.

At least Gholston makes plays against 1st, 2nd or 3rd stringers.

  24. Buc4evr Says:

Hall and JTS both need to be gone.

  25. Larrd Says:

The Bucs held the Jets to a couple field goals and an attempt at a third. Hall couldn’t have been that bad. Two All Pros up front is enough.

  26. Pickgrin Says:

Anyone saying “cut him” or “get rid of him” is not considering that these 1st and 2nd rd picks have all or most of their 4 year contracts guaranteed.

  27. geno711 Says:

I had hopes for Hall but he is looking more and more like a bust to me.

Peyton Turner and Logan Hall both went to Houston and both drafted about the same time, 1 year apart.

At least New Orleans made the mistake the year before us.

Agree with your point to some degree. But for a 2nd rounder, there is a possibility to cut him on that 4th year.

For instance, Logan Hall contract his 4th year is about 3 million. The Bucs if they cut him would have a 1.2 million dead cap hit. The minimum salary would be about $700,000 that year so the Bucs could save about 1 million over a minimum salary guy.

Here’s hoping that he is outperforming a minimum salary guy.

  29. Pickgrin Says:

Geno – Hall has 2 full years to improve before you even consider the cap implications of cutting him.

That was MY point. Anyone saying “get rid of him” doesn’t know what they are talking about. He’s already here for at least 1 if not 2 years beyond 2023.

Bucs have no choice but to continue working with him and trying to develop Hall into an NFL player.

  30. Pewter Power Says:

Licht isn’t supposed to have a100% hit rate people that’s unrealistic to call out a general manager. I had no expectations for hall so I’m not disappointed, he’s been mostly invisible to us anyway

Now where I do have a problem is this team forcing him into action by making him a starter. Best man should play period. There is a trending theme with Bowles. Got rid of JPP because they had unproven JTS and JPP was better than him injured

  31. Jeff’s grandpa Says:

No gm gets them all right halls still a young man who knows

  32. BA’s Red Pen Says:

He’s not strong enough, can’t get off blocks. Once an o line guy gets hands on him, he’s done.

  33. BucU Says:

    B U M.

  34. TonySoprano Says:

Not only did Hall look weak and slow, his effort looked bad. Didn’t look like he even cared to stop a run or hit the QB. Very concerning. Gaines also looked like dogcrap tonight. Senat is looking like a better second string nose than him.

  35. Sly Pirate Says:

    Gholston/Hall Sacks by Year
    Y1 – 2 / 2.5
    Y2 – 2
    Y3 – 3
    Y4 – 3
    Y5 – 0
    Y6 – 1
    Y7 – 1

We love Gholston but hate Hall.

    Why?

  36. Fred McNeil Says:

I wouldn’t call him a bust yet. I don’t see him as ever being more than JAG, though.

  37. Fred McNeil Says:

    Senat isn’t bad at all.

  38. Bucamania Says:

Not living up to his draft position that’s for sure.

  39. Bobby Says:

Second round pick bust, it sounds like. Hope I’m wrong, Go Bucs!!

  40. Bobby Says:

I don’t get it, Logan Hall is so talented. It must be the mental side of the pro football that is holding him up. Well I bet Kancey shows is dominant skills by mid-season and that will just make Hall look even worse. If Hall doesn’t show something this season. He will be most remembered in Buccaneer history for playing physical during walk through drills during last season’s camp and severely injuring Ryan Jensen and Jensen’s loss was felt all last season and now Jensen’s career could potentially be over. So thank you Logan Hall for that….

  41. Reality BucFan Says:

I Honestly don’t believe Our Defense is good enough To rest anybody Starters Etc. Everyone should be playing..we haven’t proved we can Rest players… Our DBs play 15yds off the ball.. we don’t generate a pass rush… Like why are we resting players… Period Hall was A reach anyway for what… waist of a draft pick…. If we went 8-9 last year I honestly can see us going 0-17 this year Todd fired after week 6 at 0-6 Not being negative but tell me what promises you have seen with our team thus far….Baker should have played… But hell why coaches giving him the job which is a blessing now I know we going to lose

  42. captivajim Says:

    past time to cut him

  43. MelvinJunior Says:

“Reality” BucFan!? The most ridiculous take I’ve heard. Definitely, the dumbest. The rest were just trolls… I honestly believe YOU truly meant every word. Resting starters… It’s The PRE. Freakin. SEASON. Clown. And, I’m not even wasting my time responding to the rest.

  44. Hunter's Crack Pipe Says:

    Suh

  45. Debbie Says:

This is preseason. They rest the starters. What should have been done is get a sports psychologist to work with Hall right after injuring Jensen. Ending the career of a vital blocker/center for Brady would make a head case out of most. Getting back up on the bike did not work with him. Now that he sees that careers end with one injury, he is gun shy. This is our pay off our debt year, we want to win, but really need the draft picks next year. I want everyone safe this year. Next year we rebuild. Go Bucs!

  46. Wild Bill Says:

Some thoroughbreds look fantastic but never win a race. Same with some football players. They may have been good enough in college but just don’t transition well to the pro game where everybody is bigger or faster or both. It sucks when a high draft pick doesn’t pan out but it happens fairly often. Good college players don’t always become good pro players. And some late draft pics expected to be camp meat surprise everybody and surpass all expectations. Happens every year across the league.
