“This Is My Time”
August 12th, 2023It was time for Trey Palmer to shine.
The lightning-fast rookie receiver from Nebraska is proving he’s no Kenny Bell. When the pads came on and the lights shined, Bell, the Bucs’ fifth-round pick in 2015, was like a cockroach and vanished into the cracks of the wall.
Friday night, Palmer enjoyed the spotlight.
Early in the second quarter with Pittsburgh up 7-0, the Bucs had the ball on the Steelers-8. Baker Mayfield went back to pass and tossed a soft pass just high enough for Palmer to go up and get it above Steelers corner James Pierre.
The way Palmer climbed the ladder to get Mayfield’s pass was impressive enough. However, Palmer was in the back of the end zone and looked as though his momentum was about to carry him out of bounds.
But no! Palmer incredibly used impressive body control to twist and make sure both feet were inbounds. Touchdown Bucs! Tie game, 7-7.
“I just saw the ball [and said], ‘This is my time, this is my time,'” Palmer said after the game. “The moment wasn’t too big for me.
“I’ve done it at practice. I practice contested catches and that’s what I did [Friday night].”
As the sixth-round pick caught the pass, job No. 1 was finished. But he had the presence of mind to get his feet right.
“I was just like, ‘Make sure I catch the ball and get my feet down,'” Palmer said. “That’s what I did.”
Joe always thought Mike Evans had some of the best footwork for getting both feet down inbounds. The play Palmer made, either he learned that from Evans or Evans may have some competition on the Bucs for the best pair of feet.
Feelin dangerous 😏

I was casually watching at a place that does not advertise here.
Thought it might get over turned. Seemed like a good play.
But a long way to go before accepting him as ready for regular season Sundays.
Maybe he did a lot more than I remember.

Palmer and Thompkins will be the 4th and 5th, not in that order necessarily. The question is, if we carry 6, will it be David Moore, Jarret, or Geiger? It will be a tough decision.

The receiver room – could be good as advertised and with a mobile QB that can buy a lil more time with his feet.. but more than likely how frequently w it’ll CG and ME come off the field, but with David Moore, Trey Palmer, Russell Cage and still pretty sure Devin Thomkins gonna get some run. The one thing I think we saw was a faster team, even with Chase out of the backfield

Bright spot in the draft. Moore looked good too.

What a pleasant surprise……a late round draft pick that produces……Durham did his job also…..liked Brown…..Edmonds…..Thompkins.

The young skilled position guys on offense looked pretty good. Fast, athletic. (Durham’s a bull). With this young WR room is trading Gage an option? We need help up front.

Lol Frontfour, we would be lucky to get a 7th rounder for Gage. Ain’t nobody taking on that 10 mil salary hit.

Good work, Palmer!
Keep going!

2nd foot was definitely in the white. Would have been overturned if they reviewed it. Nice play though.

One play. Nice catch. Beat a 4 year CB who was complaining of a push off. Offensive Pass Interference called on him on another play makes me think he may have a case.
He was called for one if not two pre snap penalties and it was the same penalty.
Slot receivers are always off the line and that should have been caught before the ball was snapped.
Going forward keep those great feet a yard off the line of scrimmage when in the slot and those nice hands off the DB when making your breaks.
David Moore looked good also but cost the team 15 yards with a bonehead penalty.
Canales Offense looked good when they ran it. After Mayfield came out the roll outs and QB movement that was advertised seemed to stop. One score in 5 drives is not gonna do it. Perhaps he does not want to show too much in the preseason IDK.
Did I see them run the ball on 3rd and 4th and one and get stuffed?
Clean it up and on to New York.

Palmer was definitely a bright spot for an otherwise poor outing by the team.

If this team were called the Thunderbirds, last night Diaby and Palmer were the Thunder – the rest were the birds.

I saw Palmers TD catch and I will say this, Trey Palmer ability to put both of his feet in the end zone on his TD catch separates the good WR from the rest. Palmers TD catch was the highlight of the game for the Bucs and they may have found a diamond in the rough. Dave Corcoran Winter Park, Florida. Go Bucs.

Dude, did you not look at the play, the defender came in at the last second to get into the play, at no other time were they close enough for a push off!

I think we are going to be just fine. Give it time, tighten up and let’s kick some arss!

Hope he can give us a few more of those this season. We need his long ball speed more though.
Go Bucs!
