How Ready Will Carlton Davis Be?

August 30th, 2023

Cornerback Carlton Davis.

Joe is starting to think if Carlton Davis has a monster year, so too could the Bucs.

Davis has already shown he’s a top-shelf corner often tasked with locking down an opponent’s No. 1 receiver. That’s no small feat.

Remember, Davis, sick of so many saying the Bucs are tanking for a quarterback since the retirement of Tom Brady, has vowed to “wreck sh!t” along with his teammates this fall. We shall see.

Right away, Davis will be put on all-world Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson. And yeah, Joe thinks Davis is up to the task. In the past he’s done a find job on the likes of Cheetah Hill (in the Super Bowl) and Ja’Marr Chase. Oh, yeah, and Jefferson too.

In 2020, Davis held Jefferson to four catches and 39 yards (one of which was a touchdown). The way Jefferson has lit up teams, that’s a strong day by Davis.

Davis is leading a Bucs defense Joe believes is good and could be damn good if the Bucs can find an edge rush.

Can’t wait to find out !!!

  2. Brandon Says:

I like Davis a lot… but as good as he is, Dean is a little better. When they are both on the field, teams throw away from Dean. When Davis isn’t on the field, teams almost never throw Dean’s way. They are the best CB duo in the league.

Brandon I am working from home today, haven’t smoked in a long time but I would love some of whatever you are smoking

  4. Divis Says:

    Johnny Wilson to the Bucs.

    GO BUCS!!

    (in the Super Bowl)

Definitely don’t mention the 200+ yards he gave up to Tyrek in one quarter in the regular season.

Davis is a good corner, he’s not a “shadow the #1 reciever” corner though.

  7. KC Buc Says:

OK Divis….let it go. We don’t need Johnny Wilson right now and even as a FSU fan, that dude drops too many cans of corn right now to be an elite NFL receiver. Let’s see if he can improve the drops and then maybe we can talk draft once the Bucs season is determined.

As for Davis, he’s a rock solid starter. I too wish he got more picks, but he has a pretty good history of shutting down elite receivers minus that Tyreek atrocity seared in my mind that gotbbucs brought back

  8. zzbucs Says:

He is slightly better than average, but I hope he has a great year…
He need to improve his tackling dramatically

Tyler904, I don’t think u want to smoke anything that will leave u brain dead. Brandon don’t have a clue. Dean is no way better than CDavis. I’ve said this before n will say again, Dean has speed but is passive, seems confused at times, has poor reaction time, n is soft at tackling for a player his size, contrary to Davis, who is not as fast but plays aggressive, play heads up ball, is very alert, n is an aggressive tackler. For the record, based on his years in the league, Dean has never been a shut down corner.

  10. Hodad Says:

To be a top shelf corner you have to get interceptions. That eliminates Davis, and Dean. They just don’t take the ball away. No one gives a shat about passes defended, get the damn ball. Until Davis, and Dean start getting picks they are just above average corners, nothing more.

  11. Mike C Says:

    WRECK SH1T!

  12. PNW Buc Says:

Davis is a very good CB, but not elite. He needs safety help, as they used during the super bowl. Didn’t the Bucs play man coverage on the Chiefs earlier that season and the Cheetah went for 200 and 2 in the first quarter? And they better bracket Jefferson week 1.
    Go Bucs

  13. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

I hope Wrecking Sh!t includes interceptions. CATCH THE BALL!

  14. firethecannons Says:

Penalty magnet, last game was unnecessary facemask, his production is dependent on the referees and how they feel on that particular sunday.

  15. 757Buc’em Says:

Lmmfao ygbkm. CD is not him, never has never will be. Istg he gets smoked more than most and when he does he fakes an injury every single time. His pride will be on IR by week 7. To be in a defense as long as he has n not be a threat makes no sense.

  16. Irishmist Says:

Remember the first KC game during our super bowl year when Bowles had Davis 1 on 1 against The Cheetah? How did that work out? If you have a lock down corner, it’s best to do what Belichick does, and have him lock down the #2 wide out, while double covering the #1 (Jefferson). That way you force them to beat you with their 3rd best receiver and you have more time for the pass rush to get home.

Lets go punch em in the mouth. Let Sapp come in and do the pregame speach!

    Go Bucs!

Why have a mouth-piece strapped to your face mask just to never put it in your mouth?
