Calf Injury For Antoine Winfield, Jr.

August 17th, 2023

The Bucs’ top safety got a t-shirt-and-hat day at practice today in New Jersey.

One could argue the entire Bucs team got a day off today, though a few guys truly had a rest day.

Veteran running back Chase Edmonds had no helmet on this morning as the Bucs were forced into pulling an audible and practiced (without the Jets) at the New York Giants training facility.

No pads. Not much intensity. And the session was about 90 minutes outdoors on wet grass, with less 11-on-11 work than usual.

Another guy with the day off was veteran safety Antoine Winfield Jr.

First, Joe thought Winfield might have partied a little too hard for his 25th birthday yesterday. Happy birthday, Antoine! But that was not the case. Head coach Todd Bowles revealed this morning that Winfield has a calf injury.

It is not considered serious, Joe was told by a team source.

Another guy laying low with his hoodie on was rookie Calijah Kancey (calf). He was not working with trainers on the sideline or running. He’s been on the shelf for almost two weeks, though Joe saw Kancey many times around the team hotel — and on the field — walking without the hint of a limp.

One guy working hard with staff away from the regular practice action was seemingly-beastly rookie edge rusher YaYa Diaby. He tweaked an ankle against the Steelers on Friday and is working on getting back to form.

No need to get out there YaYa, lay low until game three

  2. BucU Says:

Great. Kancey is still walking with a limp. He’ll be worthless this year now. Missing that much time as a rookie is huge. Expect precious little from this guy this season. The hits just keep on coming!

    BucU,

I think what Joe is saying is that Kancey is walking WITHOUT a limp.

    Hey BucU,

I hope our Buccaneers kick the S—t out of the Jets Saturday and if Arron Rodgers plays i want our guys to sack him at least 3 times

    BucU no read so good.

  8. BucU Says:

Thanks for correcting me!! I’m happy to find I just read it wrong. We need Kancey back asap!

  9. Toad Bowels Says:

Box could sign Akeem Hicks to replace Kancey and books could sign Julio Jones to replace Russell Gage.. neither those guys have played for a year so I’m sure they’re both healthy now.

Until they practice for 5 minutes. How about Carl Nicks to fill in for Ryan Jensen?

Truth is some guys are just snake bit and go from one injury to another. The quotes man attributed to Bill Parcell’s, Tony Dungy, and several other people but the best ability is Availability.
