Bucs Training Camp 2023 Day 7 Practice Notes

August 3rd, 2023

Ke’Shawn Vaughn in footwork drills.

Fans who attended practice today were welcomed with a steady cool breeze. It made enduring a Florida summer morning in the sun almost pleasant.

And quite a few fans turned out on this Thursday. Good crowd. What did they see? Kyle Trask is turning into Steady Eddie, Lavonte David isn’t done yet. A José Ramirez sighting and a two-minute drill period that Baker Mayfield likely wishes could be a do-over.

* Early in practice during special teams drills/walkthroughs, Joe noted rookie receiver Trey Palmer getting a lot of work practicing fair catches. And Russell Gage got a few fair catches in.

* When guys began (allowed?) to return punts, Deven Thompkins was in the mix.

* Joe’s just going to go ahead and call it: If Thompkins doesn’t make this team, that tells Joe he snuck a woman into One Buc Palace like that dope Dean Long did with the Rams on “Hard Knocks.”

* Baker Mayfield to Chris Godwin in the right flat.

* Mayfield throws to Thompkins along the right sideline.

* Mayfield is pressured by Don Gardner and he throws the ball away.

* Mayfield runs right and throws for David Moore along the right sideline and he gains about 10 yards.

* Sneak Vaughn runs inside right for a few yards.

* Same play and this time Vaughn breaks it for a nice play.

* Kyle Trask fakes a handoff and then bolts around the right side for a first down as he runs out of bounds.

* Trask pumps right and then dumps off the ball to Chase Edmonds who barrels down the right side. The crowd approves. Loudly.

* Patrick Laird off right tackle for a few.

* Trask connects with Trey Palmer over the middle. Palmer didn’t practice all that well early on in training camp but the past few days seem to be getting the hang of these NFL practices.

* Mayfield pumps twice and tries to get the ball to Cade Otton along the left sideline and it is nearly picked. Joe couldn’t tell who got a hand on it. If this were real football Mayfield likely would have been sacked on a blitz.

* Physical: Mayfield dumps the ball off to Rachaad White on the right side who lowers his shoulder as he Alstotted Zyon McCollum. Joe heard a giant, loud “Ooooohhhhh!” from the crowd as White stepped over McCollum to continue his YAC.

* Trask connects with Palmer on a slant from the left side and Palmer turns upfield for a monster gain and likely a touchdown had the whistle not blown.

* Mayfield tries Dominique Dafney (Indiana State) down the right sideline and it is broken up by Keenan Isaac.

* Edmonds hauls in a Trask pass in the right flat.

* John Wolford throws deep down the right sideline and drops one in the bucket for Gage. Antoine Winfield on coverage. Gage scores.

* Wolford scrambles up the middle for a monster game, but remember, quarterbacks can’t get hit. Joe saw three defenders pull up on Wolford.

* Isaac swats away a Mayfield pass to the right intended for Cade Otton.

* David Moore hauls in a pass from Mayfield down the left sideline.

* Mayfield throws for Tanner Taula (Illinois State) on the left side, incomplete. Two things here. First, Markees Watts (Charlotte) knocks the ball away. More importantly, had this been real football, camp meat linebacker Brandon Bouyer-Randle, who cheap shot Rachaad White Tuesday night, would have splashed Mayfield.

Red Zone

* White runs through traffic to the left for a touchdown.

* Bouyer-Randle sure got White peeved the other night. Joe spoke with White after practice and White told Joe he learned his lesson from Bouyer-Randle Tuesday night. If linebackers want to get physical with him, he can be physical too (McCollum found out the hard way, and yes, Joe is fully aware McCollum is a corner). White is having his best day running the ball so far in training camp.

* Mayfield to Gage over the middle at the goal line.

* Edmonds up the middle but not for much.

* Mayfield is flushed left and he tries to connect with Otton in the back of the end zone. Mayfield threw the ball a little high and Otton tried to make a soaring one-handed catch. Nice try though.

* Anthony Nelson nearly sacks Trask who instead gets the ball away down the right sideline and safety Nolan Turner nearly picks the pass off.

* Next play Turner misses another interception. A Trask pass over the middle was tipped and the ball hit Turner in the shoulder pads.

* How quickly did Cam Gill burst through the Bucs’ offensive line? He “tackled” Mayfield for a sack by two-hand touch rules.

* Mayfield hits Vaughn over the middle for a score.

* A Jose Ramirez sighting! The rookie sixth-round draft pick would have splashed Mayfield if this were real football. Instead, Mayfield the ball away.

* Defensive tackle Mike Greene (James Madison) forces Mayfield to throw the ball away.

Seven-on-Seven

* Rakim Jarrett pulls in a Trask offering over the middle.

* Trask tries to repeat that same result aiming for Ryan Miller over the middle and Schiano Man Christian Izien (Rutgers) breaks it up. Izien is having a nice camp. Joe has a hunch the Bucs are going to have two, maybe three Big Ten safeties (Winfield, Izien and perhaps Kaevon Merriweather) on the roster in September.

* Wolford connects with Gage over the middle.

* Wolford throws deep for Dafney down the left sideline and the ball was underthrown. Dafney, however, made an excellent adjustment to the ball, caught it, and headed upfield.

* Wolford to Kaylon Geiger who is wide-ass open down the right seam.

* Palmer catches a pass from Wolford as he comes from the right on a crossing pattern. Palmer caught the ball off his inside shoulder.

* Ko Kieft hauls in a pass from Wolford on the right side.

* Mayfield pumps three times and hits White on a dump-off along the left sideline.

* Pretty: Mayfield throws for Evans maybe 20 yards downfield along the left sideline and the ball drops right in the bucket for Evans, hitting him right in the hands. Couldn’t ask for a better pass.

* Kade Warner catches a short pass over the middle for very little.

* Mayfield throws to the left for Thompkins and it’s off his hands.

* Taula pulls in a Trask pass on a crossing pattern from the right.

* Trask to Taula on the right side.

11-on-11

* Mayfield has a pass tipped at the line. Couldn’t catch who got his paw on the ball.

* Mayfield throws short to Trey Palmer on the right side.

* Death, taxes and Lavonte David being a stud. Something things really never change it seems. David nearly picks off a Mayfield pass intended for Vaughn along the left sideline. David must lead the league in almost-picks. Happens almost ever practice it seems.

* Evans hauls in a Mayfield pass along the left sideline.

* Trask to Edmonds over the middle for a big gain.

* Warner brings in a Trask pass on the slant from the left side.

* There is a Little League or PeeWee football team here today sitting in the bleachers wearing Seahawks-like highlighter-yellow jerseys. They are chanting constantly “My-Ike Ev-Ans (clap, clap, clap-clap-clap)… My-Ike Ev-Ans (clap, clap, clap-clap-clap)… “

* Trask is under pressure and he throws to Ryan Miller to the right and Miller makes a really good one-handed grab.

* White has a pass from Trask batted away Anthony Chesley (Coastal Carolina).

* Trask throws over the middle and it looked like it was going to be picked because there wasn’t a white jersey (offense) in the vicinity. But in a blink of an eye Palmer, the speed demon from Nebraska, flies in and catches the ball on a pattern from the right for the catch.

* Ramirez jumps the snap and is belted by right tackle Raiqwon O’Neal (UCLA).

* Mayfield to the left sideline for Evans who makes a fingertip catch. Ball just dropped in the bucket. Evans is ready for Minnesota.

* Mayfield connects with Vaughn down the left seam for a big gain.

* Mayfield lofts the ball for Edmonds.

* Mayfield tries to hook up with Laird to the right but Gardner breaks up the pass.

* Mayfield tries to throw to Sean Tucker over the middle and Tucker drops the ball.

* Some dude is walking around with an orange Trask No. 11 Gators jersey. Guess this guy is on board with the Bucs drafting Michael Penix in April?

Two-minute drill

* Mayfield throws to White along the right sideline and even though Shaq Barrett tipped the ball, the pass still had enough mustard on it that it got to White at the sideline.

* Should Joe spin all of these tipped passes as a positive for the defense?

* Mayfield overthrows Godwin to the right despite Godwin getting open and having McCollum hit the turf.

* Mayfield looked to be under pressure and appears to throw the ball away to the right. Problem was, the pass was actually near Godwin along the right sideline who shook free of Winfield. Crowd grumbles. Joe heard one fan holler, “He was open!”

* Joe sees a flag fly and the defense erupts and hollers and points to the offense. So it must have been on the offense?

* Mayfield is having a sloppy two-minute drill, maybe his worst “period” of training camp. But he’s not getting a bunch of help. Thompkins dropped a can of corn from Mayfield over the middle. Perhaps Thompkins heard Winfield’s footsteps? The Pro Bowl safety was right there.

* Mayfield is flushed and dirts the ball.

* David Moore catches a Trask pass to the left.

* Trask dirts the ball as he avoided a sack by Greg Gaines. After the play, Gaines raised his arms wide as if to ask, “WTF?” Maybe he was held?

* Trask connects with Laird over the middle.

* Trask tries for Thompkins down the left sideline and Merriweather nearly had a pick.

* Miller pulls in a Trask pass down the left sideline.

* Trasks goes deep down the right seam for Geiger and Trask nails him between three defenders. Geiger actually had to come back for the ball. Trask sort of threw it where only Geiger had a chance at the ball.

* Trask lofts a pass to Palmer but it falls incomplete.

* Trask dirts the ball under pressure.

* Kieft catches a touchdown pass from Trask over the middle.

* Trask hits Payne Durham near the goal line by the right sideline and he steps out of bounds.

  1. KC Buc Says:

Kind of feels like the offense gained some momentum today, no? And reading between the lines, another W for Trask over Mayfield. Good to see Ramirez doing something, he got a lot of hype as a steal in the draft.

  2. Jenkins Says:

“Trask sort of threw it where only Geiger had a chance at the ball.”

That’s what he did a lot of at Florida. The receiver catches it or nobody catches it.

  3. Crickett Baker Says:

Thanks, Joe. Sounds like this was a long and productive practice.

  4. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Reading Joe’s comments, it seems like Trask had a slightly better day than Mayfield. I couldn’t tell though. Sure does seem like Mayfield gets a lot of passes tipped at the line of scrimmage. This alone might be the deciding factor in handing Trask the starting job.

  5. ATLBuc Says:

Joe, what’s the deal with Mayfield having so many near sacks? Is he holding the ball too long? Or was it his turn to play against the first team defense today?

  6. Bee Says:

Trask racking up dubs day after day. Good to see the defense is getting their hands on some passes

  7. ChiBuc Says:

Yay, a Ko sighting! Not much noise from the edge/Barrett

  8. Joe Says:

Joe, what’s the deal with Mayfield having so many near sacks? Is he holding the ball too long?

    Sometimes, yes.

  9. ATLBuc Says:

    Great notes!! Thanks Joe

  10. Mr. Editor Says:

Gage is practicing? I almost forgot about him.

Regarding BM, he needs to get rid of the dang ball (in a Colt McCoy Texas-drawl).

  11. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Question, Joe……..do you know all these camp meat players or do you need jot down their numbers and look them up later for your article?

  12. Jenkins Says:

Holding the ball too long could be the result of longer processing times due to less field vision due to less height.

  13. Marine Buc Says:

    @ Joe

What is your opinion of our starting RG Cody Mauch? Is he holding his own since the pads were put on?

  14. gofortheface30 Says:

Happy to eat crow on Trask if he continues this upward trend of looking and playing like (i wont say a franchise quarterback) a stating caliber quarterback. Very encouraging. That being said, my expectations are severely tempered. Low floor, low expectations, and even though Trask seems to be playing better than Baker – it doesn’t mean anyone is confusing him with Joe Burrow or even a Kirk freaking Cousins. Give me a few 22-34 288yd games with 2-3 TD’s in the regular season, leading to W’s and then I will happily say that we may have a little something cooking. Long way away from that, but credit where its due to Trask for steps in the right direction

  15. D-Rok Says:

I believe these are your most detailed notes so far this year. Great descriptors and at times allow me to just envision the play – the mark of every good writer. Thank you, Joe!

  16. chark Says:

any word on sean tucker?? Is he real

  17. SB~LV Says:

Trask is Baby Brady! Embrace it.

I never knew Kyle Trask’s Mom’s first name is “Jenkins” until now…Thank you for your biased commentary, Mrs. Trask!

  20. Jenkins Says:

    Hey Joe,

What’s it like to see all your bloviating about Trask go up in smoke?

    LMAO.

  21. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

“Can of corn” Have you used that one before? Pretty good.

  22. Mike Johnson Says:

HMmnnnn..Was Trask playing possum all along just trying to see what Mayfield really had? Seems like he is rising daily to the occasion. This might be a battle after all.

  23. PopsMalone Says:

    Nice job Joe! Thank you!

  24. Marine Buc Says:

It still sounds like Trask is winning the QB competition…

    Go Bucs!

  25. DBS Says:

Didn’t know Jenkins was a nooyorker either. Oh wait. Yes we did.

  26. 1#bucsfan Says:

Jenkins a feel the same way about joe hating on trask lol and don’t say you don’t JOE. Some guy walking around in a gator jersey that is trask and say I guess he’s on board to draft penix which would mean where picking pretty high next draft lol your word not mine. Unless you see into the future trask starting doesn’t only mean we will be picking in the top 5 next year. It might be a well educated guess but still a guess

  27. Tbbucs3 Says:

Lots of commenters vying to become the biggest Trask propagandist but we need someone to replace NEfan since Brady left.

  28. Bucsfan13 Says:

Mayfield and Trask sure had a lot of “dirt ball.” That was a big complaint of uninformed fans last year. I see it as good. Avoid negative plays and live to fight another down. Smart football

  29. Infomeplease Says:

Sounds like the O-Line had a ruff day. Should we start to worry Joe?

  30. SOEbuc Says:

    Start Wolford!!!

  31. Joe Says:

Question, Joe……..do you know all these camp meat players or do you need jot down their numbers and look them up later for your article?

Both. The stars you know. Guys like Thompkins, he has a very specific build and thus is recognizable. Still jot down all numbers, even the stars.

  32. Joe Says:

    @ Joe

What is your opinion of our starting RG Cody Mauch? Is he holding his own since the pads were put on?

Can’t say for certain. If Joe focuses on one guy, he misses the whole play. Bucs sure do seem to get decent pressure, so really can’t say. Sadly, no video available to rewind four or five times to get an idea.

  33. Joe Says:

any word on sean tucker?? Is he real

He hasn’t done squat (which is why you haven’t read anything about him) but Joe’s giving the guy a pass because he just started practicing two weeks ago. This is basically his minicamp.

  34. Joe Says:

What’s it like to see all your bloviating about Trask go up in smoke?

Not sure what you are getting at. Trask sucked for 2.5 years. What happened to him during the six weeks of summer is a borderline miracle. And good for him! Demonstrates perseverance (and having a competent offensive coach?) really does pay off.

As always Joe writes what he sees. Guys like you only want to read what you want to believe.

  35. Joe Says:

Jenkins a feel the same way about joe hating on trask lol and don’t say you don’t JOE.

Putting words in Joe’s mouth is a good way to get run. Joe never did hate Trask. If anyone is the “hater” it’s you. (Did learn to hate Leftwich and Lovie after time, though.)

  36. Joe Says:

Mayfield and Trask sure had a lot of “dirt ball.”

Dave Canales is a bit stickler on the quarterback’s inner clock. Joe’s written about that already. Aftre 2.7 seconds, you better do something and one option is dirting the ball.

  37. Dwayne Cone Says:

Jenkins Says: Holding the ball too long could be the result of longer processing times due to less field vision due to less height.

He’s been short his whole career so to compensate he will throw to a spot whether the receiver is open/there or not. My problem is I am tall like Trask and when I aim sometimes I hit it and sometimes the wife complains about the spots on the bathroom tiles.

I think the Picks have got him in a bad place right now. rattled.

  38. Joe Says:

Sounds like the O-Line had a ruff day. Should we start to worry Joe?

Not sure but Joe has written many, many times there is a question mark for each projected starter on the offensive line. If they do struggle, it’s won’t really be a surprise to Joe.

  39. Joe Says:

To all those who seem to enjoy these notes, thank you very much for the kind words. 👍

  40. Marine Buc Says:

    @ Joe

Thanks bud. Too bad you can’t shoot video anymore…

It would be nice to watch some of the clips.

  41. Bucfan94 Says:

    @joe
What’s your honest opinion on the RB room this year. I’m not finding much anywhere really talking much about them. Not sure if that’s good or bad. Thanks for the coverage.

  42. Bucfan94 Says:

As for the QB battle it seems Mayfield is rattled a little. But that could still easily change. Looking forward to the preseason games. Well get a true understanding of what to expect come week 1 and possibly the rest of the season.

  43. Joe Says:

What’s your honest opinion on the RB room this year.

Joe wrote about this earlier this morning. Simply put, ***so far*** there’s nothing special.

However, that may be changing. Joe is typing a story right now that will be published in a few moments about the guy expected to be the Bucs’ RB1. New and interesting perspective.

  44. Bucfan94 Says:

Thanks. I didn’t catch that post my bad. But damn, that sucks. Was hoping White would come into his own

  45. Jenkins Says:

Joe of JBF, the “Joe” I was addressing was “Joe in Michigan” in the comment immediately above mine. I should have been more clear.

  46. Pickgrin Says:

Thanks Joe – your notes give a very good general sense of what happened out on the practice field each day.

“Should Joe spin all of these tipped passes as a positive for the defense?”

Probably the opposite. Its a real concern IMO – if Mayfield winds up as the starter we are likely to see more balls batted down at the line than we have seen in many years…

  47. ATLBuc Says:

Joe used to IRK me to the umpteenth degree when he would write as if Baker were the starting quarterback and had wrapped up the qb competition already. But now… I have nothing but mad props for Joe because when it comes to the practice notes the Journalist wins out over the fan. He gives it to us uncut not favoring either QB.
The quarterback competition is not over though. It has shifted to a competition for the backup QB spot between Mayfield and Wooford and it seems as if Wooford is winning.
Mayfield is doing the things Bowles will not tolerate; holding the ball too long and throwing picks. Even though they get dropped, coaches still know that he is throwing the ball to the defense.
In his interview he said that today was a much better practice than the previous two. Imagine a QB describing as a better day defenders not holding on to his bad balls. Not to mention all of the balls he’s had batted down a the line and by DB’s.
Joe, what do you think about trading Gage for Jonathan Taylor while he’s healthy. We have an excellent crop of young receivers.

  48. Marine Buc Says:

    @ Joe

You last staement about our RB group was:

“Joe wrote about this earlier this morning. Simply put, ***so far*** there’s nothing special.”

You mean to tell me a human being with eyes, ears and a brain can watch this team play football and make this judgement without “expert analysis”?

    LOL!!!!

Oh my – this is going to be a fun season indeed.

  49. Joe Says:

Joe, what do you think about trading Gage for Jonathan Taylor while he’s healthy.

LOL From what Gage told Joe last week, Gage is pretty close to untradeable (damaged goods).

  50. Marine Buc Says:

    @ Pickgrin

“Probably the opposite. Its a real concern IMO – if Mayfield winds up as the starter we are likely to see more balls batted down at the line than we have seen in many years…”

    I agree 100%.

I watched all of Baker’s film from last year and this is also my biggest concern. There were at least 3-4 blocked passes per game. A few were intercepted and one was returned for a pick-6.

His time at Carolina was worse than his time in LA. His game against Denver is one of his best games since 2020… and he still only threw for @ 230 yards and 2 TDs.

I really hope Trask wins this QB battle. Baker would make a mighty fine backup QB.

  51. ATLBuc Says:

I really think Mayfield was brought in to be a backup. They had to tell him the competition thing because of his competitive nature. Just think about it. With an unproven commodity in Trask, they could have easily brought in Mayfield and named him the starter. No one would have complained except those of us who know of Trask’s greatness.
But it seems as if, instead of lighting a fire under Mayfield, who is still pudgy around the middle, the competition lit a fire under Trask.
I think it was the utmost form of arrogance and disrespect for Trask that led Mayfield to believe he didn’t have to work out with the receivers over the summer and could show up to camp with belly fat.
He has obviously fallen into the same trap as the national pundits that have dismissed Trask and declared Mayfield as the starter.
In his interview today Mayfield talked about improving his footwork. Imagine that, an 8 year veteran having to watch film and be told his footwork is off. Poor fella, who were his QB coaches?
He’d better watch out for Wooford taking the number 2.

  52. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Damn good Job Joe! Damn good Job

  53. Fred McNeil Says:

It’s great to hear Trask handling the task. I expected a tie going to Mayfield, but all these batted balls and near sacks have me thinking Tie should go to Kyle.
Glad to hear Gage playing and playing well. We’ve gotta pay him if he plays or not so it would be great to get some production out of him.
It was nice to hear about Cam Gill and Jose Ramirez. One of them will probably make the final 53 if we keep 5 OLBs. That Issac kid will almost surely catch on.
    Thanx for the notes.

  54. Mike Anthony Says:

“It has shifted to a competition for the backup QB spot between Mayfield and Wooford and it seems as if Wooford is winning.”

I think this totally assinine comment just about sums up why you have to take everything in comments with a grain of salt and frankly that craziness probably rubs off on Joe as well by making every practice and play be centered within the microcosm of whose goign to win. When you have a trask fan boy proclaimig its over before preseason games and even before contact allowed situations and the third stringer is winning second stting you know its la la land not intellect.

When you actuall read the break down of notes you have the con on Mayfield of some passes but with several notes of throwing dimes. and both nearly had an interception.

by notes alone ( not beign there ) it reads like at best none of them was that much betr than the other with Baker showing flashes.

  55. Mike Anthony Says:

    >>> except those of us who know of Trask’s greatness

    ROFL.

  56. Mike Anthony Says:

    @Marine Buc writes

    >> His game against Denver is one of his best games since 2020… and he still only threw for @ 230 yards and 2 TDs.

Umm the score on that game was 51 -14 and baker was 24-28. for those math challenged – he missed 4 times while throwing the ball the whole game.

hate on the guy if you must and who knows trask might be your guy for this season ( dubious he’s the answer period) but pro tip – If you are going to LIE that you watched all his games at least try to make it less obvious you are lying.

  57. ATLBuc Says:

    Mike Anthony

I don’t know what notes you read but every other comment in Joe’s notes about Mayfield was about a batted down pass or a near interception. How many negative plays did Joe write that Trask had? Very few compare to Mayfield. From what I am reading about Wooford and Mayfield, Wooford seems to be faring much better.

“by notes alone ( not beign there ) it reads like at best none of them was that much betr than the other with Baker showing flashes.” Are you kidding me? Trask is throwing dimes whereas Mayfield’s passes are being batted down. The few completions he’s made are deemed as sacks because the defense can’t hit him.
I will bet you a quarter that Wofford will be ahead of Mayfield when the season starts.

  58. ATLBuc Says:

What person in their right mind has watched all of Baker Mayfield’s games? LOL!!

  59. ATLBuc Says:

    Mike Anthony

Certainly not a true Buccaneer fan. You are an Imposter!! A Mayfield fan from Cleveland who’s following his career!! Get off my blog you interloper!!!@

  60. Slacker Says:

Bad o line, bad rbs, bad qbs, bad head coach. Defense going to be on the field a lot. 3-14 coming

  61. ATLBuc Says:

Are you saying that Baker is sleeping with the linemen to win a starting job???

  62. Mike Anthony Says:

    @atlbuc

    >>about Mayfield was about a batted down pass or a near interception

lol more hilarity. Trask fans cant read? I’m from south florida but didn;t kow the education system was so bad up a bit north. The notes actually mention Track near picks of three to Baker’s two. SO to be charitable about even.

as for the fan business. Welcome to the NFL kid! Teams pick up fans and lose fanse and yeah sometimes its a player you followed elsewhere. live with it (by pounding dirt if you must) . Like none of you would follow a team that Trask went to? Bwahaha try selling sand to someone in the desert. You’vll have more credibility there.

  63. ATLBuc Says:

We might follow a tam Trask went to but if that team played the Bucs we would be rooting against him. But, what kind of sad soul follows Baker Mayfield? What kind of person are you? You must be from his home town and went to the same high school. I get it but he’s a second stringer here and maybe a third stringer if he can’t beat out Wofford,

We aren’t accepting any Mayfield fans on this blog. Joe Bus Fans Is for Bucs fans not Mayfield fans so kick dirt and Mayfield will be following you soon

  64. Mike Anthony Says:

    @atlbuc

Joe can decide if he probibits new fans of the Bucs. Either way it won’t matter a hill of beans to me. IF you are too young to realize that every season teams get new fans through following players thats your own lack of intellectual development. As for asinine (as usual) mental processing team It would root for another team besides the bucs regardless of who they play as if you know me – your history of consistency at fail is intact. I have no other NFL team I root for so would do the same as you regardless of who they play

havign expose your silliness mutlipel times I’ll let this exchange rest rather than filling it with more examples of your sutpidity. Cheers!

  65. Joe Says:

Joe, how come no mention of Steve McClendon stopping by camp and chopping it up with our DL?

First have heard about it. Didn’t know about it. Didn’t see him. Bucs sure never put out any release about it.

  66. shak Says:

whoever gets the start is a Bucs, I’m rooting for them, PERIOD! I still think Bowels decided it was Baker the moment he signed. I want it to be Trask but I’m not so far in that I want Bake to fail, I want the best to rise to the top! Yall are fighting like yall are one of them, at least their real battle is a friendlier comp than what I see here!

  67. Posey99 Says:

“Trask sucked for 2.5 years.” -Joe

I’ll have to disagree with you Joe, Trask didn’t play. That’s not a fair assessment of someone who never played. You don’t draft a QB and stick him behind Brady unless you want to run Brady out of town. Trasks preseason performances were cursed with dropped passes and playing with FedEx drivers.

  68. ATLBuc Says:

    Mike Anthony
Your being a Mayfield fan speaks for itself

  69. Arians4President Says:

Joe, reading your answers to readers’ questions was just as interesting as the recap. Who’d of thought?
During times of the year like this, lots of Bucs action, that would be a cool blog post alone… just taking the best genuine questions from the comments of all the days articles.
You are our eyes and ears Joe!!

  70. Oneilbuc Says:

I’m telling you guys it’s not about the preseason because we know Mike Evans or Chris Godwin probably not going to play. So I wouldn’t take preseason with a grain of salt. It’s all about the joint practices that’s where Mike Evans an Chris Godwin will play the most. That’s why I wouldn’t evaluate either quarterback in a preseason game because the starters are not going to play much if at all!! The joint practices is what matters!!!

love, Love, LOVE IT Joe!!!! Thx for the play by play. Gives us great perspective. IMO, Trask needs to win the starting job. the Bucs need to know what we have…or DON’T have. He’s a 2nd rounder and he sat behind the GOAT for 2yrs. If he can’t parlay that into middle of the pack starting NFL QB, then Licht needs to be active. just saying.

Tompkins could be a weapon as a gadget player, I hope they figure out a way to use him in space.

Watching a bunch of stuff from the last two years with Mayfield, what you saw over and over again was him bailing on plays, either throwing it away or dumping the ball off, even when guys down the field were open. Sounds like he’s still doing that.

With Trask, it will be interesting to see what he does in games under pressure. I really want to see if he can keep that new found zip on the ball when he has to speed things up. If he can, then he’ll have a chance to stick in the NFL for a while, and hopefully do a lot more than that.

Alot of tipped balls by both guys today…none hauled in…Bowles needs to get em on the Juggs machine. We need these guys to hang on to some of these. Do they still do tip drills?

Are the DL and Edge guys going 100 percent in camp. Just wondering how our O-line is looking.

    Go Bucs!
