Bucs Land Two Players On ESPN’s Top-100

August 29th, 2023

Still a large presense.

While NFL Network polls just a fraction of league players to determine its annual Top-100 players list, the four-letter polls “experts” to cobble together its list.

Of the top-100 players, the Bucs only had two, and none in the top-50, though it was close.

Bucs left tackle Tristan Wirfs was No. 51 on ESPN’s list.

Jenna Laine of ESPN used a quote from Wirfs about moving to left tackle and how Bucs offensive line coach Joe Gilbert told Wirfs, “I am not going to let you fail.”

The best receiver in Bucs history, Mike Evans, also made the list at No. 76. Laine writes of Evans:

For those concerned Evans may have a dropoff without Tom Brady: He has had nine 1,000-yard seasons with five different starting quarterbacks. The scheme under new offensive coordinator Dave Canales also has him moving around more than he ever has, and this system is more about the scheme getting guys open and less reliant on guys constantly having to win their one-on-one matchups. Even at 30, there has been zero indication of him slowing down this training camp.

For those wondering, the four-letter projects Evans to have over 1,000 yards for the 10th straight season, but only 25 yards over the mark.

Joe used to joke that a Bucs training camp cannot finish without Evans pulling a hamstring. Well, this summer Evans didn’t have a hammy issue. Instead, he tweaked groin. But hey, progress!

Evans will have his best season. Mayfield needs wins and stats. Evans won Johnny a Heisman, got Winston to a Pro Bowl, and won TB12 a SB. Mayfield will be looking to Evans.

Joke🤡 Lavonte had.one of his best seasons since 2016, which means pretty kick ass season. Still a top five LB been extremely underrated his entire career.

optimisticbucsfan, when has anybody gave the Bucs the credit they’re due? Is a player vote that important to you?

    Lavonte snubbed

22 positions, so 4-5 guys at each… no Vita Vea? are there 4 guys better than him at that position?

  7. WyomingJoe Says:

2019… Baker Mayfield #50 on Top 100 list. Just sayin’ … Hope he gets there again this year for Bucs.

  8. Jgar Says:

These lists are so biased. If the Bucs win 10 games they gave 5 guys. Evans, Wirfs, Vea, Godwin, and Winfield.

    Sly, you make great observations!

  10. Austin C Lewis Says:

These lists are a joke, Wirfs is a top 5 Lineman in the league regardless of position, interior or tackle. This is a popularity contest

  11. Larrd Says:

Do not forget Winfield! National folks underestimate the Bucs corners, too.
