Sean Tucker Claims He’s “Cleared For Takeoff”

July 24th, 2023

Bucs UDFA RB Sean Tucker.

This is for the roster junkies out there.

Joe knows a sect of Bucs fans dives deep into the roster, reading as much as they can about every guy the Bucs signed after the draft.

One guy is Syracuse running back Sean Tucker. With none other than Mel Kiper as a groupie, Tucker has a lot of fans out there but he wasn’t drafted by anyone. The Bucs signed him as an undrafted free agent.

Apparently, medical red flags popped up on Tucker during the draft process. Long-time Packers beat man and as respected an NFL journalist as there is, Bob McGinn, reported Tucker had an “ongoing heart issue.” That seemingly spooked a lot of teams.

It didn’t spook Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht.

Maybe because of this heart issue, Tucker was held out of underwear football. But now it seems he has been given the green light to resume practicing.

Tucker X’ed (he didn’t Twitter because Twitter and the bird are now dead — the social media giant’s new name is “X.”) that he has been “cleared for takeoff.” Joe isn’t fully sure what that means but Joe is guessing Tucker cleared his medical hurdles.

The Bucs, you may have heard, had the worst rushing attack in the NFL last year. So any quality addition to the roster at running back is welcome.

In each of the last two seasons, Tucker ran for 1,000 yards for Syracuse, averaging over five yards a carry.

We should all have such bad hearts.

He might end up being our best back

Joe would understand why there’s a sect of fans who are very excited about Tucker if he watched some of this guy’s film. He’s a stud.

As a Syracuse alumnus, I can tell you #44 has a huge symbolic meaning. Think Ernie Davis!

  4. Sly Pirate Says:

His tape is AWESOME. Stuck could be the #1 before EOY. Glad he gets his shot.

  5. Rod Munch Says:

I’ll put my money on Reggie Brown, he had 1863 yards with an 8.5 ypc average – to go along with 56 receptions for another 589 yards, and 25 TDs last year. I’m quite interested to see what he can do. He played against low level guys, but completely dominated them, and actually has NFL size and speed. In his highlights, he looks like and plays like Christian McCaffrey.

The “ongoing heart issue” or whatever the medical ailment was, did not prevent from producing at Syracuse. Maybe he’ll turn out to be diamond in the rough for the Bucs.

  7. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

Tucker didn’t dominate against ranked teams. He was shut down. He ran all over small schools.

But I wish him luck. He’s got catching up to do. If he makes the team I see them burying him in the bench for a while. No way they start him over White or Vaughn.

  8. Stanglassman Says:

Tucker had some of his best games vs big time programs. 157 vs Clemson, 150 vs Wake, 112 vs Va. tect, 105 & 100 vs NC State, 112 vs GA. tect, 101 vs ND, 125 vs BC to name a few. Did he put up 250 vs Liberty and teams of that ilk? Yes, he played who was on the schedule. He will be getting significant snaps the later half of the season. He’s too good to stay buried long.

    Great news Joe!

Now get out there and compete Tucker!

Lelands has an Ernie Davis jersey up for auction right now. Wish I could afford to bid on it.

“According to Lelands, Ernie Davis wore the number “44” jersey in a game against Kansas on Oct. 1, 1960, at Memorial Stadium in Lawrence, Kansas.”

Feeling better already about our RB room.

  12. Jokers_Paradigm Says:

I LOVE IT! I am so cheering for this dude to ball out and make the team. It would be an amazing pick up for JL. Go Bucs!

  13. Wild Bill Says:

You can never have too many really good ball carriers on the team. For years the Bucs have been too shallow at that position. Hope the young man shows up big time.

  14. Upstate NY BUC Says:

Hey guys, watched many of his games live in the Carrier Dome. Excellent speed, great hands. His cut back ability is pure magic. Watch out!! Go Bucs

  15. Dooley Says:

Now it’s time to see if he’s still got some of that track speed. Hoping our training staff has a plan to ease him into team activities, idk where Tuckers’ conditioning is having not been as active since the combine as he would’ve been had he not found out about the heart condition.

Great news and that’s one more dog to pull the sled that is going to be our run game.

    LFG!!!!!!!

  17. PewterStiffArm Says:

This is exciting, I was waiting for information about this kid. He might be a sleeper and a half. He might push some people, especially if he learned the playbook. Go Tucker, go!

  18. Marine Buc Says:

This is great news. I hope this kid becomes the RB we desperately need.

Heart issues are tricky to deal with. I hope he continues to stay healthy…

If Joe still hasn’t watched film of our future RB1 Sean Tucker, that is irresponsible journalism AND fandom.

  20. J Says:

Hes wearing #44 in honor of Jim Brown, love it.
