Calijah Kancey Carted Off

July 30th, 2023

Injury.

Joe didn’t see this happen so Joe cannot offer specifics. But NFL Network reporter Sara Walsh reported that Bucs’ first round pick Calijah Kancey was carted off the One Buc Palace practice field this morning.

The injury likely would have been a non-contact injury as the Bucs were in position drills. That Joe is sure of.

Per Walsh, Kancey walked to the cart holding his calf.

If he was able to walk to a cart, it doesn’t (yet) seem devastating.

Joe will have more after practice.

    “holding his calf” = cramp?

  3. Kwame Richardson, Sr. Says:

Here we go again. Praying that it’s nothing serious. Go Bucs.

  4. A Bucs Fan Says:

Calf strains or pulls are rough. Hope it’s only a tweak but it’s possible he’ll be out for the pre-season now.

  5. Bucman Says:

dill pickle juice will fix him!

    It’s a Bucs life.

  7. Joseph C Simmons Says:

Just last night, after reading the Ryan Jensen piece, I said to myself, “We’re at the time of year where we have to pray we get to the regular season with no devastating injuries.”

And now this. More prayers are in order.

  8. JD Still Says:

Hopefully nothing more than a cramp, saw a photo of him from earlier in the week sweating heavily, surprised that there haven’t been more!

  9. Mort Says:

Hydrate, folks! It’s hot out there. Hope it’s just a cramp but you never know.

  10. Pablo Says:

Pablo warned you guys it’s not smart to draft a midg egg in the 1st round, durability concerns

  11. Ko Kiefer Says:

Most likely just a cramp. You can tell whose been working in the heat in the comment section and who hasn’t 🤣

    Sage did it lol

Hoping for the best here… but you’d be surprise what you can walk on, that includes a torn ACL… let’s hope it’s just a calf strain and that he’s ready for week 1

Well, the season was fun while it lasted

    Here we go again!!

  16. A Bucs Fan Says:

It’s a strain and he’s getting an MRI…. That stinks.

  17. Bobby Says:

Damn, well there goes our season. Just the old bad Buccaneer luck that our first round pick this year Kancey would suffer an injury on a non contact drill. Omg 😱. These players today just can’t stay healthy man. It’s crazy!! Welp there goes our season. So frustrating…

  18. Dooley Says:

Rest, ice, elevation, and electrolytes. Kancey should be fine, calf strains are a b*tch to deal with, but easier to bounce back from than say a groin(otherworldly discomfort) or hammy strain.

  19. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Ease up, people. It’s likely because of the heat. A strain is easy to come back from. The mri is probably just an extra precaution.

But, even if he were out…that would not cost us the season.

Baker Mayfield might, but not this lone injury.

    Bucman Says
“dill pickle juice will fix him!”

It probably would have helped prevent it from happening. That and lots of hydration.

Given the heat wave that the planet is having, I’m surprised training camp is not indoors this year.

Pro football talk has an article on it and coach Bowles said it was a calf strain. Joe burrow just had one a they said he will be ready for game 1. So worse case he may miss the first couple of games. I

  21. Mike S Says:

Saw the vid on X. Looked like a calf cramping up on him while going through drills. They’re saying strain, but didn’t look to me like a major injury.

  22. Bobby Says:

Kancey is rookie and a defensive tackle. DL is one of the hardest positions for a rookie to excel in during the first season. Kancey needs all the reps in practice that are available for a healthy player. And he is not getting them by not practicing and instead recovering from a calf injury. Him being out for possibly multiple weeks into the season is a serious problem for a rookie because of all the missed developmental reps he would receive in practice. Welp here we go. Health has been a major issue for the Bucs for years now. Players just can’t stay on the field and stay healthy. The players and the teams spend so much money on there player bodies but and for what if you cannot stay on the field and not miss practice and game reps. This reminds me if when Bucs drafted Gerald McCoy, his first two seasons were partial seasons because of of torn bicep injuries. This time we didn’t even get an opportunity to see Kancey blow past offensive lineman in a fully padded practice before he gets hurt. So frustrating, I see why owners are skeptical about paying players because what are you paying for if the player is not playing. I also see why players want there money and lots and of it now. As player you never know when an injury wears end your career. And as a fan you buy a ticket to watch a team play that your rooting for but what is the point when the guys you hope to see play are sitting on sidelines due to injuries. So frustrating today’s injury is
