Devin White Reports To Mandatory Minicamp But Doesn’t Practice

June 13th, 2023

UPDATED 11:54: Buccaneers savior linebacker Devin White joined Shaq Barrett and Russell Gage on the sidelines today as the team opened its three-day mandatory minicamp.

Shaq (Achilles) and Gage (undisclosed) have injury issues. White more likely is just taking it easy, a miniprotest following him skipping voluntary spring practices after expressing a desire to be traded.

If so, White avoids a fine but makes a statement at the same time.

Joe spoke about the likelihood of White showing up but sitting out at length on the Ira Kaufman Podcast last week. Nothing quite like a little June drama.

On the good news front, Pro Bowl center Ryan Jensen (knee recovery) was out on the practice field and making the Bucs’ new-look offensive line look more beastly.

UPDATE: Head coach Todd Bowles said White is not expected to practice this week and will work on lifting and running indoors. Bowles added that White’s issues are just business and he’ll be ready for training camp.

    Lavonte David > Devin White

  2. Voice of Truth Says:

May we not have another thing typed about the diva until he puts pads on and shows up for his team? He only has about 11 and a half million reasons to do so….

  3. Nprbuc Says:

He has, and continues to make clear, that he does not want to be here. As talented as he could be, is it worth it to infect our “ new” team with his attitude? We all know what a cancer does if allowed to metastasize. Get what we can and ship his unrealistic, childish ego someplace else. I would rather loose one than possibly have a number of guys infected.

  4. SOEbuc Says:

What a b!tch. Tell him we will release you or resign you if you are worthy next year. Drop him and scoop Jalyn Ford in the first round next year when ILB may be a desperate position.

  5. Dooley Says:

The Bucs production crew has the WORST audio quality, can’t hear the questions being asked or answered during these live pressers

  6. Tim Says:

Ryan Jensen out there being a leader, Devin (Diva) White out there being about himself.

  7. Buc4evr Says:

    Trade him.

  8. Durango95 Says:

    Russell Gage, again. Sheesh.

  9. Casual Observer Says:

Buc4evr – Agree. He is becoming a cancer.

  10. Hodad Says:

Dooley, I thought it was only me. Don’t care much about what White does anymore, but sure glad to hear Jensen is back. Bucs have to make some big moves to get the cap under control, trading Diva White would accomplish that. Hey Joe, was Sir Dennis lining up in White’s spot? Was David out there with him, how did they look?

  11. Austin Says:

    Get him gone

  12. Allen Lofton Says:

Whites behavior shouldn’t come as a surprise – his demeanor last year showed you how he was going to handle 2023 Fifth Year option.

  13. Steven007 Says:

The difference between Jensen and White as leaders of their respective sides of the ball simply couldn’t be more clear. You can’t be a primadonna as an inside linebacker if your name is Devin White. Well, you can, and he is, but it doesn’t make sense. Your name is Ray Lewis? Luke kuechly? Vintage Bobby Wagner? Then you can talk. And let’s add Lavonte David to that list too.

  14. Tampabaybucfan Says:

White has made things much worse on himself by making this public….but Bowles’ praise of White with no new contract is the problem.

We mortgaged our future so much that extending contracts are an issue….we couldn’t do it with Godwin and eventually had to franchise him…..we couldn’t do it in the last year of Carlton Davis’ contract and ended up paying the piper…..same with Jamel Dean.

We need to put ourselves in a position to give raises in final years in return for extended contracts.

  15. Crickett Baker Says:

Some of you “trade him” people aren’t really thinking. In order to trade someone you have to have a trade partner–someone who wants him and offers something for him.

  16. BillyBucco Says:

So White does what everyone thought he would do and out comes the name calling.
I agree it sucks, but this is a part of NFL negotiations for millions of dollars and half the teams in the NFL seem to have one or two in some cases.
How do you think Minnesota fans are feeling right now after getting rid of everyone but Jefferson basically.
I’ll go one farther and say if they don’t get a deal done with White, he will probably be “hurt” during the year, which is always a last ditch effort to “show” the team how bad they miss him.
Problem with that this year for the Bucs is Sirvocea Dennis.
The Bucs might actually look better when White pulls this stunt.
Maybe White gets a contract or maybe the team is actually good and White knows he needs to play good for a big contract next year.
Wouldn’t surprise me for the majority of this defense to be reading tabloids and thinking we are gonna suck on offense and I’ll be out there all year possibly getting hurt with only 11 million, when I could have say 60 Million guaranteed somewhere.
So back to White not practicing Bowles doesn’t seem too worried about it.

  17. My Momma Says:

My Momma thinks the Bucs should treat him like they treated Keenan McCardell. Why reward him by trading him at this point? Let him sit and rot.

  18. Durango95 Says:

The White thing only becomes an issue if he’s not practicing come training camp.

  19. Mike Says:

He should have come in and said sorry guys, what I said was all about business and I’m here and ready to work and have a great season. But instead, he shows up as a formality to keep from getting fined but doesn’t practice with his teammates. He has basically said “I’m in it for me”. He is not a leader. He should not receive a new deal from the Bucs.

  20. Durango95 Says:

“After practice, head coach Todd Bowles said White is not going through a so-called “hold in” and the team isn’t putting him on the practice field in part because he hadn’t been there for the voluntary offseason program.”

  21. jim jim Says:

devan white will be a cancer in the lockerroom. send him to tampa high

  22. gp Says:

    BillyBucco Says:
**I’ll go one farther and say if they don’t get a deal done with White, he will probably be “hurt” during the year, which is always a last ditch effort to “show” the team how bad they miss him.**
    **********************************************************
While I wouldn’t put it past him, that would probably be one of the worst things, future contract wise, that he could do.
It is the fear of an injury(understandable) that is driving his push for a guaranteed contract now.
An injury, or just sitting out, will only reduce his contract value next year.

  23. Duane Says:

45 makes a fool of himself, and Papa Bowles there to make it all better. Last year, Bowles let Byron do what he wanted to for the hopes of a phat contract, and look how that ended up. Not a leader of men, and not a good coach if your “best”player/student is not all in. This team has clearly been its own worst enemy since Bowles took over.

  24. Ugotrobbed Says:

    White = Cancer
Showed his true ability last year by running his mouth and then disappearing on the field!

  25. Pewter Power Says:

He’s toast but yea Bowles you gave the company line you have to.

If they are thinking of trading Devin White lol who cares if he’s practicing I wouldn’t let him play a single regular season game and risk injury. Keep holding out bruh, keep letting the rookies prove you’re easy to replace

  26. Jeff’s grandpa Says:

    Trade the me first diva

  27. Tucker Says:

Lol fans are silly this is becoming more and more common place in the NFL most fans put in the position would want to get paid as much as possible. Do you Devin, but if you stay on the team get live 45, go bucs.

  28. AnonymousBuc76 Says:

    Not practicing???

So he literally showed up to pout 🙄…

    Class act smh

Honestly, the best thing we can do Imho is first and foremost, Don’t give him what he wants. 2. Proceed without him (get the young guys more reps). 3. As My Momma said, let him sit and rot.

The best case scenario if we take my preferred route is to have success/fun without him…If this happens he’ll be begging to play…

  29. Dlavid Says:

What a bunch of BS ! Showing up and pouting in front of the whole team …. Get rid of this cancer now!!!

  30. Dlavid Says:

And coach Bowles covering for his a** ! This is why we only win 6-8 games and Bowles is canned after the season !

  31. Infomeplease Says:

Let’s face it, DW has honed his craft so well that he doesn’t need camp!! He is so smart at analyzing plays, so good at tackling, so dominant at pass coverage, and reading offenses that he clearly is the best inside linebacker, bar none!! I almost forgot to mention how he always sacks the qb when his number is called!! (If you had any doubt…Yes, I can be sarcastic !!)

  32. Infomeplease Says:

I’m so glad we have a rookie eager to take his place!!!

  33. BuxfaninTX Says:

Great way to alienate your team, captain

  34. Jmarkbuc Says:

If he’s there but not doing anything, hopefully the Bucs are preventing damaging the merchandise, and working trade.

  35. SufferingSince76 Says:

If there was a team out there that wanted his services badly enough, Licht would have done a deal. I haven’t heard of anyone stepping up. They have the same concerns about White as the Bucs. Someone should explain this to him.

  36. SlyPirate Says:

    Voice of Truth …

We should all stand behind his statement. No more news about players that are opting not to contribute. There is too much new and positive to be excited about to waist time on players that aren’t part of the team.

  37. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    Well!

I thought DW would be the successor for LVD and make the Bucs his whole career…..I guess we were all wrong on that one……

  38. LakelandSteve Says:

He’s a Bum, trade him already, or just cut him. We don’t need him in the locker room bringing everyone else down.

  39. Bojim Says:

    Not a good sign.

  40. Lokog Says:

Ill be watching on pirate tv im not wasting money on this team as lon as devin is here

  41. Kalind Says:

Dude is just a punk A, B. Talking about leadership and you pull this? Stfu man, you’re no leader.

  42. JeffreyLane77 Says:

So White is going to workout but not practice? I think that’s even weirder than just holding out.

  43. garro Says:

There is a history of teams trading holdout players for peanuts when it gets down to crunch time. I’m sure Licht is aware of this and is exploring all trade possibilities.

Bowles is blowing smoke as usual. It makes me wonder what BA would have said.

I’m glad they hid his helmet and forced him to watch Dennis play his spot. I was hoping they would do this. It lets him and everyone else know that they can be replaced.
    Go Bucs!
