Ali Marpet Names Top “Tightass” Buccaneer And The Most Focused

Ira Kaufman Podcast listeners got these nuggets several days ago, but hey, of the many tens of thousands of readers here every week, not everyone has time to fire up The Sage of Tampa Bay Sports.
So retired Bucs guard Ali Marpet jumped on The Beer Money podcast earlier this year and was asked to give a “tightass award” to a Buccaneers player during his tenure. The goal was for Marpet to name the player who frowned on certain kinds of fun and was a policeman in the locker room.
Marpet thought about his answer and settled on himself as the top tightass on the team. He said a factor was him being players union representative for years, and Marpet said he sort of felt obligated to be that guy policing other players and killing actions that crossed a line.
But what struck Joe was the example Marpet gave of something he would say that made him a tightass: “We shouldn’t be doing that, Jameis,” Marpet said.
Man, of all the examples and names Marpet could have given …
Marpet also was asked to name the most composed and locked in Buccaneer no matter the game situation. Surprisingly, Marpet did not name Tom Brady.
He went with former Bucs defefensive tackle and future Hall of Fame player Ndamukong Suh.
“Lowkey he had a fire and I was going to say ‘asshole’ about him,” Marpet said. “But I think that was always consistent. He had a consistent asshole about him.”
So there it is: a little bit of Bucs history from one of the great Tampa Bay offensive lineman of all-time.
