Scotty Miller Signs With The Falcons

March 28th, 2023

The catch heard ’round Tampa Bay.

Thanks, Scotty. It was fun. Now go drop a bunch of footballs for the Falcons.

Bucs free agent receiver Scotty Miller, per NFL Network, agreed to join the Atlanta Falcons today. Another key cog in the Buccaneers’ Super Bowl run of 2020 is gone.

Miller, a Bucs sixth-round pick in 2019, had a breakout year in 2020 culminating in his famous catch to close the first half of the NFC title game in Green Bay. It’s a play that will live on in the hearts of Bucs fans for generations to come. But Miller battled injuries in 2021 and made little impact in 2022.

His blazing speed was there but his ball tracking and hands appeared to escape him. Then-undrafted-rookie Deven Thompkins was the preferred choice by coaches late last season.

Miller still looks like a capable, fast and versatile No. 5 receiver who can play special teams. Again, as a No. 5, Joe saw value to bring him back to Tampa. But now he’ll try to rip the top off defenses and open up lanes for Drake London.

Good luck, Scotty!

They’ll use him correctly. And he’ll smoke us.

  2. BA’s Red Pen Says:

    No he won’t.

Hate to see many of our draft picks go…….Scotty, Edwards, SMB……but it’s just business….

  4. firethecannons Says:

that is a shame, it will be djax all over remember the rams game, Djax burned us there is karma wrapped up in this

  5. Dooley Says:

Happy trails Scooter! Best of luck with the exception the two times you play us next season. On the bright side for us, this particular WR class this draft is deep, not top heavy as far as day 1 talent goes but throughout the draft there’s a wide range of talent dependent on what a given team is looking for. I’m hoping we take a shot at some day 3 guys, as much as I’d like to go get Zay Flowers, we don’t need to spend our second rounder on a WR w/Evans, Godwin, & Gage pretty much penciled in as our top 3 in that room. Still got Thompkins & Geiger from last season. Jadakis Bonds or Andrei Iosivas would be nice developmental picks

  6. Marine Buc Says:

    Good luck Scoot.

Your catch in Green Bay will always be remembered…

At least we are changing offenses so the Falcons won’t be able to scalp our playbook… lol.

I think he lost a lot of juice when he hurt is foot two seasons ago.

  7. Jimbo Says:

I’m surprised that Jason Leight loving Joe-Joes didn’t say that the reason the falcons signed Miller was to get the Bucs playbook. That’s how it works with sub-par players. He may not eve be on the team come september.

  8. WillieG Says:

Bowles doesn’t need a deep threat for his run, run, pass, punt offense.

  9. PanthersSuck! Says:

He’ll smoke us, but drop it.

  10. Letsbucinggo Says:

    Who cares!

  11. Ultra ClodHopper Says:

Never one of the greats yet you can’t tell the story of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers without his name. He’ll forever be a part of Buc lore. Good luck, Scooter.

  12. Cobraboy Says:

He made one of the most substantial plays in Bucs history.

Can’t keep everybody. I’m sorry to see him go.

    Thanks, Salary cap!

  13. WVBuc Says:

Hey, Jimbo, which playbook is Scotty going to give them?

The Arians translation of the Leftwich codex?

The Leftwich version audited by Tom Brady?

The Brady version as transcribed each Friday before a game?

It’s difficult to know what Scotty may have made copies of while in Tampa…except one. One he can’t give the Falcons. The one Dave Canales hasn’t even edited for publication yet and even if he had, Scotty has never received in any form because he hasn’t been a Buccaneer since the loss to the Cowboys.

One advantage we are going to have in 2023 is that our offense is going to be an unknown commodity for the first half of week one. Most of the nuts and bolts will be exposed by that halftime but it will be several additional weeks before Canales’ play call tendencies begin to show any pattern.

  14. DBS Says:

As many times as our secondary has been burnt? I would not guarantee he would not smoke us.

  15. 407buc Says:

Always remember his catch in Green Bay game.Won’t really miss him and not worried about him being a falcon. Our dbs know he is a one trick pony

  16. ScottyMack Says:

Far too many Scotty Miller lovers over the years. His CAREER stats are pretty much exactly what the always injured and highly overpaid Julio Jones were last year except for Jones was better as a TD target.

His best year was what would be considered below average for a decent receiver. Nice guy, probably, but no loss for the Bucs and yet another over the hill or wannabe WR for the Flacons this year.

  17. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Scotty….always remember to JUMP before you DROP!

  18. Pewter Power Says:

Good for him, sometimes you need a change of scenery. Drop a few against the Bucs please

  19. HC Grover Says:

May he drop every pass and fumble if he catches one. Bye Bye.

  20. Mike Johnson Says:

Thanks for your service with the Bucs Scotty. Many of us wish you nothing but the best. I’m sure you will be OK in Falcon country.

  21. gotbbucs Says:

Guy got given every chance to try to make an impact last year. Couldn’t do anything the opportunity.
Thanks for not dropping the Green Bay ball.

  22. Beeej Says:

    He’s done ok for a 6th rounder

  23. BuxfaninTX Says:

He’d still be here if he ever learned to catch with his hands and not let the ball get into his pads

  24. Da Bucs Guy Says:

He will have a 400 yard season, and 200 of those yards will be against the Bucs.

  25. Bucsfan13 Says:

Brady never changed things the night before the game. You sheep will believe anything the sports media says.

  26. Bears Fan once in 85 Says:

Buccaneers fans will be stunned when Scotty Miller ends up being a real stand out for Atlanta. It will be fun to see him when the Falcons play the Buccaneers. Watch for him to have his career break out season finally after being underutilized.

  27. Bears Fan once in 85 Says:

Scotty Miller was underutilized in Tampa… I cannot wait to see the Buccaneers fans faces when they see Scotty performing at full utilization potential. The buccaneer secondary had better be at their peak fitness level, they will need it to catch super scooter.

  28. Jon Grudin Says:

Where is Cyril Grayson? Let’s get him back in camp and see what he can do.

  29. BucsfanFred Says:

    Good luck Scotty

  30. Idahobucfan4life Says:

I always had hopes that Scotty would evolve a little more than he did with the Bucs. Raw talent. Great straight-line speed. Above average special teamer. Worst flaw was that he lost Brady’s confidence and that led to an overall disappointing experience in Tampa. Thanks for that fantastic catch in the playoffs!

  31. BucsfanFred Says:

Jon grudin. Grayson is on the practice squad.

  32. Delusional Intelligence Says:

Thank you Scooter, but I foresee more turf toe in your future on Atlanta’s turf. Just ask Julio.

  33. steele Says:

Miller was limited and sporadic, the occasional big play, but never developed into a consistent asset. A team with a deeper roster can afford part time flash.

  34. FortMyersDave Says:

He will have one or 2 big games, probably against the Bucs. Other than that he will be a non contributor like DJax and the Rams.

  35. Zoocomics Says:

Miller is a one trick pony. His plays worked when no one was expecting him to take the top off the defense, and it helped that Brady has a monster arm. Once they figured it out, it was all downhill from there. Additionally, he never worked out as a kick or punt returner either. Scotty has to figure out the slot, if he can’t I think he’ll be as useful as he was with us these last 2 seasons.

    Are you Scotty’s agent?

  37. Curse of Gruden Says:

Moving to ATL. Buy a gun.

  38. Who Says Says Can't Say Says:

    lol, nice dig Joe

  39. Seattle Buc is back in TB Says:

Wonder what they offered him. I mean he’s a #4 or 5 and a good gunner. Did they overpay?

  40. Goatfarmer Says:

Bloweszo doesn’t know how to use Scotty anyway. He doesn’t like players with speed, the fact that Scotty can’t run the ball up the middle or bust a coverage on defense are negatives in Bloweszo’s eyes.

Yes, Scotty would’ve been All-World if it wasn’t for Bowles…Although he wasn’t under Arians, either. Are you really this weak?
