Slimy Saints “Only Team To Get Far Enough Along” To Grab Derek Carr

February 10th, 2023

Derek Carr.

The Derek Carr drama continues.

The Bucs need a quarterback. Bucs front office suit Bucco Bruce Arians discussed the popular Door No. 2 yesterday. The last time Arians peeked behind that door, he found a free agent quarterback, Tom Brady, and effectively a Vince Lombardi Trophy.

Now another veteran QB is about ready to step behind Door No. 2, and it appears only one team has seriously discussed acquiring him by trade. Yesterday the slimy Saints met with Derek Carr, who has some $40 million dollars waiting for him if he is still on the Las Vegas roster on Wednesday.

It seems improbable to believe the Raiders won’t release him before then unless they can find a trading suitor.

So far, as Field Yates of BSPN notes, the slimy Saints are the only team given permission to talk turkey with Carr.

So if the Bucs are serious about Door No. 2 and a veteran quarterback, then they better get moving. Otherwise, it appears, the slimy Saints will have the best quarterback in the NFC South.

And that pretty much means the slimy Saints, and not the Bucs, will be the favorite to win the NFC South in 2023.

  1. Go Bucs Go Says:

    Painful to admit…
With or without Derek Carr on Saint’s roster, they will beat current Bucs handily. Heck, not even sure if we can beat Saints with Derek Carr as our QB1.

    Go Bucs!

  2. Paul Says:

This is just kicking the tires. The Saints cap situation is worse than the Bucs. They are dreaming that they can pull this off.

  3. Fishhawkbuc Says:

Wake up Joe. Rhonde Barber makes the pro bowl and you got NOTHING on here about it. Sounds like you did not expect him to make it

  4. Leighroy Says:

Scroll further fish hawk and read Ira’s article before you go putting your proverbial keyboard in your mouth.

In related news, can the Bucs even afford to pay a QB 40 mil this year if they traded for his contract? I mean I’d love to wake up, smell the coffee and trade for an SI swimsuit model girlfriend but I simply can’t afford her.

  5. TDTB Says:

I say pass on an expensive QB. That said, if you were Carr would you come to TB? Who is your OC? Does his scheme fit your best traits? Will he help you succeed so you can get the next contract? Without answers to these questions, no QB (other than a journeyman) is going to come to TB.

  6. AnonymousBuc76 Says:

The sad part about Derek Carr is…

He looks the part but I’ve watched him melt under the pressure of clutch situations to many times to count…His numbers don’t tell the whole story…He leaves so many plays on the field it’s ridiculous…If we really want Todd Bowles fired; sign Derek Carr…

  7. Dooley Says:

It would be interesting to know what trade scenario New Orleans offered Las Vegas to even get Carr in the building, but I’m sure it includes some of not all the picks they got for dealing Sean Peyton to Denver.

  8. Darin Says:

    Fishhawk
I think barber made the pro bowl before joe was even around. You’re decades late.
And Paul the salary cap can be easily maneuvered by any team plus carr would have to agree to a pay cut. That’s why the aints are in trouble they do it every year and will continue to

  9. SufferingSince76 Says:

Forget Carr. Rebuild from the ground up and establish a year to year competitive team like KC has done. They’ve had winning seasons every year since Andy Reid arrived.

  10. Dreambig Says:

Joe, Nice artical about a marginal overhyped QB who is not going to be a Buc, but Rhonde made the pro bowl last night! Let’s jump into that hype!!!!

  11. Winny Testaverde Says:

We should all hope the Taints sign Used Carr…a NFL version of fool’s gold to a long term, cap crippling contract. He is a poor man’s ( destitute ) Kirk “Kissing” Cousins.

  12. FortMyersDave Says:

Paul is right, the Saints sign Carr and they go further into cap hell, fact despite what darin says, a team eventually hits a point where cuts have to be made, the Aints are there. Anyhow if they do pull the trigger they probably will suddenly become the bottom feeder in the NFC South that all the doom and gloom trolls predict the Bucs to be (although the other teams in division also bite) as the Saints have curses just like the Bucs. The only more negative fans I see on forums than the fans who expect 2-15 here are the Aint’s fans. They are almost hoping for the same thing as the go for tanking losers here. I suspect the same can be said of the ATL and Carolina. Anonymous Buc76 is spot on Carr, bring him and you will lose, Carr could be the second coming of Archie Manning on the Aints. A guy who puts up great numbers but goes 4-10 (for Manning), 5-12 for Carr every season.

  13. ClwJB Says:

I hope they sign him, once every 7 years he will get them to the playoffs

  14. Beej Says:

    Pro Bowl?

  15. Oddball Says:

And which team has the worst cap overage in the NFL?

Of course the Saints, who have been manipulating the cap for what seems like nearly a decade, will probably pull it off. Slimy indeed.

  16. Hodad Says:

If Carr goes to the Saints, they become the Raiders South. I’m not worried.

    ______

Wow. What a clown. Ronde, no H, Made the Hall of Fame, not the Pro Bowl. Dude has been a Buc since 1997 and you can’t even spell his name right.

    _________

Two complete morons in one thread. See my above post, wash, rinse, repeat, learn to spell and quit disrespecting the man’s name.

  19. Bucssuck Says:

LOL . Bucs are garbage. Get used to being at the bottom of the NFC south every year . Just like before TB came.

  20. surferbuc Says:

JOE: “The last time Arians peeked behind that door, he found a free agent quarterback, Tom Brady”

Actually, I recall Arians mentioning Door #2 during Brady’s temporary retirement in 2022.

  21. RednekDad Says:

I love to read the replies of the armchair general managers. Their stupidity is awe inspiring….

  22. Shaun Adams Says:

Slimy? Not sure if you remembered the qb that just retired for you guys but wasn’t exactly an open recruitment of Brady. Carr had a history with Allen. Slimy? Stretch there.

  23. Dreambig Says:

My bad, posting before coffee. Meant HOF in above thread.

  24. Waterboy Says:

Others are waiting on 2/15 when the Raiders have to guarantee that 40 mil or cut him.

  25. Marine Buc Says:

I hope the Saints sign Carr. It will insure they suck and remain in cap hell for the next 3-4 seasons with a mediocre QB…

Let them continue their delusional march towards another 6-8 win season.

Carr is not the answer for any team who wants to win.

    The Derek Carr drama continues.

    Drama?

  28. sasquatch Says:

I’m not aware of any drama. I just see rumors and speculation and the absurd possibility of trading for a 38 million dollar contract. Or waiting until he’s a free agent for the privilege of paying g0bs of money for a QB whose accomplishments don’t warrant the salary when we’re already 55 million in the hole.

I don’t see drama. I just see the usual made up nonsense of the NFL offseason speculation industrial complex. I don’t believe for a moment that Carr is actually an option for the Bucs.

  29. SKBucsFan Says:

They can have him. Their salary cap situation is worse. Hopefully they do trade and give up a lot of picks. Good luck building an Oline around him.

  30. Duane Says:

Carr is an ok pickup for any team in the NFC South, but as stated above, the Saints are betting against themselves currently. If any of these teams are serious about a quarterback, they should be packaging picks and talking to Baltimore.

  31. Ollie Buttersworth Says:

Ain’t it a b**ch how a team can be good two or three years out of their entire existence and their fans think they’re like some dynastic team of consequence lmao. He’ll they weren’t even good really, if Jared Cook doesn’t fumble the ball in the 3rd quarter they don’t even win that game. Bucs are not a team anyone in the league cares about anymore, aside from that one time an old guy came there because it was warm.

  32. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I read that the Saints feel we are interested in Carr and just trying to make us give up more to get him in a trade situation.
    One big bluff

  33. BucsfanFred Says:

The saints can have him. He’s just good enough to lose.

  34. catcard202 Says:

Carr smart enough to find a future home & block trade by Raiders at same time.

Why force NOLA to trade away assets to acquire you, when you can force LVR to cut you & get the same outcome. (A starting gig & new contract of = money value)…While your new home keeps their assets/draft capital to give you more weapons/better roster.

I’m sure Carr would love nothing more than screw JMD on way out the door.
Mark Davis sure isn’t Al Davis…He has no idea how to “Just Win, Baby!”.
One bad FB move after another after another after another…

  35. Will Says:

Lol ain’t it a B××ch how a team can have a HOF QB for what a DECADE or more but only manage 1 Superbowl ring AFTER a team they claim is the worst franchise in the league. How many meltdowns in the playoffs at home did they have? Can’t make it back to the big game then wanna come on another teams board and talk trash even though that team has more Lombardi Trophies. GTFOH…..

  36. John Dixon Says:

Whoever made the Baltimore comment is in dreamland. Carr is a better QB than lamar will ever be. He can actually read a D and throw the ball accurately. Lamar is a better overall athlete but being injured and missing many games the last two years and being a QB who runs and takes to many hits, he is going to have a very short shelf life now. He is not good enough to fall back on being a pocket QB either.

  37. Oneilbuc Says:

John Dixon you must be high to say that Carr is better than Lamar Jackson 😂😂 . You are the only person I’ve ever heard say that lol 🤣🤣🤣!!

  38. Rod Munch Says:

I hope the stupid Saints give up a boat load for Carr, that would be hilarious if they are just bidding against themselves and give up a ton.

  39. Scarducci Says:

Carr is the best of the worst. Bucs nor Saints would become relevant with him alone. This is the NFC doubt! Same story next season as this one pass. I’m a Saints fan since the 70’s. All 4 teams are terrible. The team with the best chance to win the division at this time is Carolina!
