Vita Vea, Donovan Smith, Jamel Dean Will Play
January 1st, 2023
Bucs fans won’t see Cameron Brate, Carlton Davis, Carl Nassib, Breshad Perriman or Kyle Trask on the field today against the Panthers.
They’re inactive, and Davis and Nassib are significant losses.
But that’s overshadowed by the epic news of left tackle Donovan Smith returning from his foot injury and manbeast nose tackle Vita Vea is doing the same. Starting cornerback Jamel Dean (toe) also will play.
Joe can’t speak to what kind of shape they’re in, but these veteran tough guys have a history of manning up and showing up for huge games.

Both good and bad news. We need Smith out there…I just hope the rest of the oline does their part so he can just focus on his own area.
Vea being back is just awesome. We’re going to need a strong defense today to help win this game. Especially against the run.

Davis is a loss because of his ability to play physical at the point of attack. Going to need the corners to play strong out there and take away the sideline.

Just a couple days ago, the Bucs’ injury report read:
o Davis: Doubtful – Shoulder (didn’t practice all week).
o Nassib: Doubtful – Pectoral (limited practice all week).
o Vea: Questionable – Calf (limited practice all week).
o Winfield: Questionable – Ankle (limited practice all week).
o Dean: Questionable – Toe (limited practice all week).
o Edwards: Questionable – Hamstring (limited practice all week)
o D Smith: Questionable – Foot (limited practice all week).
o Wirfs: Questionable – Ankle (limited practice all week).
o Julio: Questionable – Knee (limited practice all week).
That doesn’t count several others like Nelson, RNR & Otton who missed practice for various maladies last week. IOW this Bucs team is pretty well beat up by this point, and even if all of them play, many of them won’t be even close to 100%. The number of leg & ankle injuries is staggering.
BTW, Panthers injury list only showed 1 out (CB Horn) and 3 others as Questionable.
