Rob Gronkowski Said If Tom Brady Plays Next Year, It Will Be With A Team That Excites Him

January 22nd, 2023

Gronk discusses Tom Brady’s future.

Can Bucs coach Todd Bowles arouse Tom Brady?

That’s basically the bottom line regarding Brady, who is a free agent in less than two months, deciding if he returns to Tampa Bay or takes his golden right arm elsewhere.

Brady’s long-time teammate and buddy, foot-rubbing Rob Gronkowski, was on the FOX Sports NFL studio set yesterday prior to the Giants-Eagles playoff game. Gronk confessed he doesn’t know if Brady will play or not.

But if Brady decides to play, Gronk explained the situation that gets him stimulated is where he will end up.

“But let me tell you — [Brady will go to] whatever situation intrigues him the most,” Gronk said. “Whatever opportunity makes him the most excited to play the game of football, that’s where he will be next year.”

Gronk said there is no doubt in his mind that Brady can still play. The question is will Brady play? Gronk guessed that Brady right now likely doesn’t know.

So it seems really simple, can Bowles motivate and get Brady interested enough to return to the Bucs? Having Ryan Jensen back will help, but do Luke Goedeke/Nick Leverett and the current Bucs rookie tight ends get Brady panting enough to wear the Bucs’ orange practice jersey?

Who Brady the Bucs select as the next offensive coordinator will go a long way in determining whether the Bucs start Brady at quarterback in 2023 or Kyle Trask in an effort to launch Operation Tank in an effort to #CollapseForCaleb.

We need to move on. I’m ready for the reload with a new QB. We’re not winning a SB with or without Brady next year.

  2. 1#bucsfan Says:

Get Brady. If that’s doesn’t happen play kyle. FA QB might not be cheap. Brady n Purdy are perfect examples you don’t have to have a high draft pick to get a good QB but we need help on the defense. Preferably pass rusher who can take down the QB. gunna need a LB and CB

  3. Rayjay1122 Says:

If I am a football fan next season it will be for a team that excites me.

  4. Rayjay1122 Says:

And forget about Brady considering the BUCS. Bowles led BUCS does not excite anyone. The BUCS are going to lose a lot of games and in very boring fashion. It is sad but true.

  5. Vlad The Impaler Says:

The good news is that, no matter what, we’ll definitely have Todd Bowels next year!

  7. LoveMeSomeBucs Says:

The Bucs need to move on from Brady already….he’s slow as hell and it is widely known that if you hit him regularly he will stink it up and since he’s 46 yrs old he can’t avoid the hits. Look at the teams in the playoffs…all have QB’s who can run and move…go get Baker Mayfield…let Brady go disrupt some othert eam

  8. gp Says:

The only thing that would give me hope that Bowles is not as bad as I and many others think, would be Brady’s desire to return for at least another year. I think I might trust his judgement a little more than my own on this matter.
On the other hand, if Brady leaves for another team, I don’t think Bowles can keep the ship afloat.

  9. Will Says:

Baker Mayfield, Derek Carr names like that make me laugh. We know what they did playing with the starters which was nothing. So with that in mind if Brady doesn’t return roll with Trask. At least we’ve never seen him play with the starters so maybe he’ll surprise us.

Then there’s the go get Sean Payton crowd
Remind me again how many Superbowls he won with a Hall of Fame QB all those years…

  10. Proudbucsfan Says:

Oh no we suck again!!!! Be ready for another lost decade. It is highly unlikely that we get a franchise quarterback in the later rounds of the draft and our cap situation isn’t exciting Brady

  11. steele Says:

Not exactly a genius comment from Gronk. Would anyone play for a team that “doesn’t” intrigue or excite them? That said, what team least intrigues or excites anyone? Winner: The Tampa Bay Buccaneers coached by Todd Bowles!

  12. Bucsfan13 Says:

@Lovemesobucs. Brady wasn’t moving around in the year we won a SB or how about last year when he played at an MVP level and was voted number 1 by the players. How entitled are some of you fans? We were once a franchise where people paid little attention to use. Our fan base was filled with humbled people. Now, since Brady gave us a taste of that championship blood, we’ve turned into some whiny, entitled group. Please don’t turn into the insufferable Saints’ fans. You can want to move on, but please don’t engage in revisionist history about Brady’s impact on this franchise

  13. Alfred br Says:

Trade carton davis, resign Murphy bunting. draft David replacement. Draft hicks replacement , find Edwards replacement. Find Julio replacement Find another running back. Give Trask every thing he needs to win just like the bucs Gave brady

  14. BelleGladeBuc Says:

First, let me say thank you TB12 for all that you have done for my beloved Bucs. You helped make a little bit of joy and a special memory for all of us fans during one of the most trying times for all of us at the height of the pandemic.

The game has evolved. Shaq could not play in today’s NBA. The day of the classic NBA center like Shaq are over. Physicality is not allowed in the modern NBA game. Your center is now much more athletic than Shaq so they can guard a player on the perimeter and can shoot 3 pointers at a 30 to 40% success rate.

3 points is more than 2. Statistical Analytics have driven the NBA to evolve and become a three point dominant shooting league.

The day of the classic immobile pocket passer are over in the NFL.

Name one team in the playoffs right now who doesn’t have a quarterback who is mobile and can extend plays. Joe Burrow has a similar situation as TB12 in today’s game. The Bengals have good WRs, good running back, but 2 of their starting linemen are injured so they are playing 2 backups. My prediction is that Joe Burrow will look much better against the Bills today in his playoff game with his injury riddled offensive line than how TB12 looked in the playoff game against the Cowboys.

If your QB can’t extend plays, then you need one of the best offensive lines in the league to protect him, your skill players must be extremely talented and win on every play because if they don’t your QB who is immobile will throw the ball away, throw an interception or get sacked.

Shaq and Kobe won their last title in 2010. Since 2010 no team since who has won a NBA title has had/or wants a center position player like Shaq or Ewing.

Games evolve. You either adapt or lose.

  15. Oddball Says:

So we need a fluffer in order to keep Brady.

    Too easy.

  16. Tvan101 Says:

Sorry Joe, Brady is gone and it’s time to shed all these veterans living off the superbowl except L. David of course.

  17. Kentucky Buc Says:

The narrative that Brady needs a great line line to succeed is garbage. He needs a decent line with a decent to good run game and receivers that can get separation. We had a horrific line and non existent run game this year and still won what should’ve been half our games(Atlanta). Do you really think we wouldn’t have won 3-4 more games with a decent line and run game ?

  18. Timbo Says:

Please, let Tom go. He’s old, slow, immobile, inaccuarte and just plain sucks. The team is also in cap hell. They have to use Trask for a year to help get it under control. Please no more Brady.

  19. beano Says:

JOE: “Can Bucs coach Todd Bowles arouse Tom Brady?”

    Bromosa humor.

  20. HC Grover Says:

Not gonna play that game this year. I assume Brady is gone.. These Bowlzo Bucs are a turn off. Brain Bleed to think about.

  21. Beeej Says:

Bucs no longer have a super bowl roster, and won’t for some time. There’s no point in Brady playing for us

  22. Hodad Says:

Worried where you were going with that, can Bowles arouse Brady Joe. So now Brady needs to be excited, aroused, and stimulated to play football? Sounds like he needs football Viagra, that little football shaped bill that makes old QB’s horny for the game again!

  23. D-Rok Says:

Gronk is speaking about Brady’s passion for the game, which he has a ton of. Brady NEEDS to play here next year to school Bowels in getting excited for a game.

Sorry, but I lost a ton of respect for Coach Bowles while he stood on the sidelines, stoic and dull, while Gage lay on that field, condition unknown. I would never play for a coach who doesn’t CARE about me as a person.

  24. beano Says:

“Beeej Says: Bucs no longer have a super bowl roster”

They haven’t had one since after the 2021 season when they lost so many starters. I said it then and was ingored. I was right. 8-10.

  25. NEfan Says:

Brady didn’t hit 1000 yds rushing until 2020 season. Belle, if Shaq kept in shape like Brady does he certainly can play in todays NBA. How does Burrow play any differently than Young played, and Hurts to Cunningham or Allen to Elway or McNabb? Etc. Montana scrambled, the game is the same the rules are different to protect the players.

  26. NEfan Says:

Joe wrote aroused, yuk, yuk. Joe can see how the pic fits the story.

  27. Your Mom Says:

It’s tough being all-in to a QB who can’t make up his mind if he wants to play.

Brady basically destroyed this past year by retiring, un-retiring, and then the Bruce Arians fallout, and cascading crap show after that.

Now he’s looking to do it AGAIN… he may not decide until March or later… how can a team work with that?!? it’s a dis-service to this franchise.

If he retires, there’s a cap hit to the Bucs that is different from him playing somewhere else. Tough to plan around this garbage. Make a decision and stick with it already.

  28. Max Says:

Lame duck coach for a season of tanking… Welcome back true bucs fans

  29. Captain Oblivious Says:

I’m surprised that nobody on here picked on Gronk’s comment that Brady is likely getting treatment for his right shoulder now. Some of you commented this year that he was playing with a hurt throwing shoulder and/or hand.

Along with NEfan, maybe Kentucky Buc and others, I will root for whichever team Brady plays for next season. Even though I really like Evans and Wirfs I’ll probably only causally watch the Bucs next season because of Bowles. Can’t really blame him for the poor, uncreative, and bland offensive scheme but his leadership made the team unwatchable (even with Brady as QB).

It’s been an interesting ride here on JBF. I only discovered these NFL beam blogs in 2019 with the Pats Pulpit. There are some very intelligent commenters on here who are football smart, perceptive, and good communicators. I have no doubt that some of you could have done a much better job coaching the Bucs this season given the same team support. OTOH, just wow, it gets really mean and personal on here. Hopefully it is just the anonymity and y’all are really nice in person.

It’s been fun here and I’m sure I’ll lurk, maybe even comment again, next season.

    All the best,
    Captain O

  30. NEfan Says:

Captain O, for me all entertainment. There are some obvious haters that soil Joe’s blog with negative comments with no merit just to fit their agenda. We get that everywhere now a days. If Brady is gone which I imagine he will be, sianara Bucs fans, you’ll have to enjoy Joe’s blog without NEfan alias list frm a far. I look forward to Bowels firing mid 2023.

  31. View from 132 Says:

Is Gronk in that photo? Didn’t notice.

  32. Pewter Power Says:

Tom will stay one more year just to wear the throwback uni’s

  33. BelleGladeBuc Says:

    @NEfan

I enjoy talking sports with you. It’s been great.

    Sports evolve.

There are no more classic big men aka centers in the NBA.

The NBA has eliminated the center position from All Star Game because big men like Shaq or Ewing are extinct in the modern day NBA.

In the post Shaq or Ewing can’t impede the progress of a player with his arms or hips. Those are the rules of the modern day NBA.

Shaq or Ewing must now defend players out on the three point line who shoot 30-40% from the 3 point line, or who can drive to the hoop like Draymond Green, and impeding their progress with your arms or hips is an automatic foul.

Draymond Green hits 30-40% of his three pointers and can drive to the paint. He regularly plays the center position for the 4 time NBA champions Warriors for a position that is now classified center forward by the NBA.

Sorry, no matter how great of shape Shaq is in he couldn’t play in the modern day NBA.

You now need a mobile QB who can extend plays because of the amazing athleticism of defensive players. Pocket passers are dinosaurs just like NBA centers like Shaq and Ewing.

  34. Old School Bucs Says:

It’s funny, Brady’s essentially the same QB he has always been except with a shoulder injury, O line to speak of. And no coaching staff that can think their way out of the master bed room. Or working with an offensive coaching staff that was lazy, sloppy in its planning and as creative as a mosquito trying to land on your arm and get your blood. But the experts here want to abandon the GOAT. 7 superbowls, just about every passing record there is, and with all the problems this team had this year still finished 5 th in passing yards.

Even more interesting is how when Vick was tearing up the league all we heard was mobile quarterbacks cant win the big one. Told him to stay in the pocket. We want statue QBs. Now mobile quarterbacks are out there and the same idiots are saying we want mobile quarterbacks get rid of the GOAT!!! Geeze, these discussions remind me of nfl officiating where they control the out comes of games to fit this weeks narrative. One week one PI call is a penalty to give the team they want the win, next week it isnt a penalty fix that week’s narrative! The week to week hypocrisy is stunning, and tiring! For me, I am so sick of losers voicing idiotic opinions about Brady until Brady retires I go where Brady goes. Because where that guy goes he will be on a mission to shut the moronic chatter class up for good!!!

  35. stpetebucfan Says:

BelleGladeBuc I agree 100% with your first take.

As for a team that excites Brady what team that excites him is excited about him.
    Which playoff team wants Brady?

I once suggested Detroit based on their upward trend and a good HC but even that is not a sure thing. Jared Goff played well this season and doubtful QB is even on their list needing an upgrade.

Of course many here would have never predicted Jameis was on the list either and I think JW would have had another year if a GOAT hadn’t been available.

Given his age and the way he looked this year I’m not sure that many teams will truly want him. I do concede this. It won’t just be based on performance who deserves the spot..TB12 will put butts in the seats and sell merchandise even if he looks like a shellshocked war vet out there making some uncharistic bad decisions and even some horrid throws.

It’s great that a 45..46 year old guy could still play for the right team, but he’s not going to turn anything around.

  36. BelleGladeBuc Says:

    @Old School Buc

Vick was a tailback playing QB. He’s nowhere in the same league as Mahomes or Burrows or Allen or Lawrence who played in the playoffs this weekend. If you think that he was, well God bless you.

TB12 never had close to any of the athleticism of any of those QB’s, but that’s what is needed now to win in the evolving NFL game.

Joe Burrows is missing 3 of his starting offensive linemen, but because of his mobility in the pocket he’s ballin against a really good Bills defense.

Tom Brady was missing 3 of his OLINE and led one of the worst scoring offenses in the history of the NFL.

  37. NEfan Says:

Belle, you are so wrong. Cincy has quality backup linemen and they should have lost to Baltimore. Burrows did nothing last week. Lawrence what did he do? Nothing that any QB in the league can do. Cincy’s OC makes adjustments, schemes receivers open, they are all getting separation.

  38. BelleGladeBuc Says:

    @NEfan

I played the OLINE, you played LB.

    Let me educate you.

1 injured starting offensive lineman you can handle that.

2 injured starting offensive linemen you are struggling.

3 injured starting offensive lineman and that’s a wrap.

Playing OLINE is a dancing partner relationship between 5 men.

When you lose 3 of those starting dance partners, it’s now on the QB and OC to try to overcome it.

Saying that Burrows isn’t ballin as he is in the fourth quarter as he has completed 64% of his passes in a snow storm for 242 yards and 2 TD’s and also rushing for 32 yards behind an injury riddled offensive line in a hostile territory is disrespecting the game of football.

Lawrence played great yesterday. If his RB doesn’t fumble the ball at the 4 yard line yesterday late in the 4th quarter he had a chance of upsetting the #1 team in the NFL in the Chiefs.

  39. BelleGladeBuc Says:

    @NEfan

First, the Bucs need an offensive coach like Taylor for the Bengals or Pederson for the Jags or Reid for the Chiefs.

Offensive minded head coaches are what the NFL has evolved too. You need them to win. The defensive players in the modern day NFL are bigger, stronger and faster than ever. That physical superiority overwhelms a team’s offense that doesn’t have an individual who is good at creative problem solving and spatial awareness.

With a defensive minded coach in Bowles who had zero offensive creativity or the will to allow that to occur makes any of our has the game evolved beyond TB12 mute.

    That’s the Bucs biggest problem.

  40. RustyRhinos Says:

Thanks for the memories, Tom Brady. Let’s move forward and get younger in the QB room. Bring in an OC who can actually bring innovation to the Offense, not keep trying to pound that square peg into the round hole. Bring in an OC who actually understands you need to be able to RUN the ball. No not just on first down and up the middle.

  41. James Hughes Says:

Tom Brady to. San Francisco 49ers!!

    Let’s go!!
