Cowboys At Bucs On “Monday Night Football!”

January 8th, 2023

Troy Aikman and Joe Buck will call the Cowboys-Bucs wild card round game.

So it is all set. The Bucs will host the Cowboys in primetime. Monday Night Football, bay-bee! The nation’s eyes will be on thee.

The NFL released its schedule for the wild card round of the 2022 playoffs after Sunday night’s Detroit-Green Bay game and there was one shocker and one surprise.

The shocker was the AFC South team (Jags) did not get the Saturday 4:35 p.m. time slot. Talk about breaking with tradition. Maybe Trevor Lawrence really is a star?

The surprise was the Bucs host the Cowboys on Monday Night Football. This wasn’t a shock as Joe figured the Cowboys (America’s Team) vs. Tom Brady (international superstar) would be a ratings bonanza, as if has been the past two years.

Joe was just a bit surprised it is on Monday as opposed to Sunday Night Football.

Below is the Wild Card Weekend schedule.

Saturday
Seahawks at 49ers, 4:35 p.m.
Chargers at Jags, 8:15 p.m.

Sunday
Dolphins at Bills, 1:05 p.m.
Giants at Vikings, 4:40 p.m.
Crows at Bengals, 8:15 p.m.

Monday
Cowboys at Bucs, 8:15 p.m.

  1. BucsFan81 Says:

Well that explains the Monday night game. They wanted Aikman to call the game since it’s his former team.

  2. AmauryGuzman Says:

The nfl screwed the bucs. Why am i not shocked? Short week if they somehow advance.

  3. Rod Munch Says:

Maybe the NFL thinks Brady and the Cowboys will bring viewers to MNF, where as SNF gets ratings pretty much no matter what. Ravens vs Cinny isn’t really a top ratings matchup, surprised they put that in the big spot.

I might get some tickets to this one, might as well be there for Brady’s final game in Tampa. I hope the fans there are smart enough to know what they’re seeing and make sure, regardless of how the game ends, give a proper send off.

  4. AmauryGuzman Says:

Don’t like it at all. Looks like it’s the bucs against the world.

  5. AmauryGuzman Says:

Rod Munch they wanted to screw the bucs. Ir doesn’t make any sense at all. I doubt Lamar Jackson will play next week.

  6. Goatfarmer Says:

Doesn’t matter which day the Todd Blowes fiasco occurs. Although a Saturday game would give the Glazers two extra days to find a new coach and ply Brady with equity and grants to his wish list to stay.

  7. Pelsbuc61 Says:

Gonna be embarrassing. Bowles, Leftwich and Armstrong will showcase their stupidity.

  8. Rod Munch Says:

If you want some top tier entertainment, tune into Green Bay sports talk radio right now. The fans crying is just fantastic.

  9. Goatfarmer Says:

Incidentally, of Troy and Joe…….which of them bites the pillow more when they’re together?

  10. R.O. Says:

NFL screwed the Bucs? I just looked and the Bucs actually have an opponent to play. Either team will play on a short week.

  11. Rand Says:

Of course Dallas’s fanboys call the game. I’m sure we’ll hear a lot about how much the Bucs are a disappointment and how wonderful that Dallas made the playoffs, and much they deserve and Dak this and Dak that.

  12. Curse of Gruden Says:

Good news boys, Lovie is available again.
Even when he wins he loses.

  13. Oxycondoms Says:

Bucs screwed themselves with the record they finished with

  14. AmauryGuzman Says:

R.O you telling me ravens vs bengals is a ratings bonanza on sunday night? No Lamar Jackson most likely. Nfl did this on purpose clearly.

  15. adam from ny Says:

the nfl has the bucs on monday night because brady is an attraction all on his own…

no need to bunch him in on sunday when he can be a solo on monday…

creating a short week if we move on…

i’m sorta worried about the game because the cowboys might be due for a win…we’ve beaten them a couple times in a row before this game…

we’ve gotta come with points…i’m talking 30 points…we go down hard if we put up our traditional 17 point showing

  16. David Says:

The Bucs are 8-9 and made the playoffs and get to host a game… And some of you are complaining about when the game is? Whatever, they deserve to be sitting home on their couch. So be grateful.

As for those trashing, Troy Aikman, why? Some of you just like to trash every single announcer for every single sport. That’s my theory anyway. Because Aikman is really good and the two of them work well together.

  17. eyroller Says:

    LFG

  18. adam from ny Says:

wow detroit really belonged in the playoffs this year…i think they could have advance a couple of rounds…

i would have loved to see the bucs host detroit in the nfc championship game lol…

detroit became fun to watch…including tonight!

  19. AmauryGuzman Says:

David everyone knows this team has underachieved this season. Anyway hopefully the bucs can play a decent game but i have my doubts.

  20. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Saying the nfl screwed the bucs, lol.

The Bucs screwed the Bucs by not earning a first round bye.

And we have to get past the cowboys first. If Jensen returns, I’ll believe it is possible. With him, running up the middle would actually work. Playoff Lenny would produce.

Brady would have more comfort in the pocket. Plays would have a few more seconds to develop.

    But if Jensen cannot go…well…

  21. David Says:

The only team getting “screwed” are the Buffalo Bills. If they won last week, they would be the #1 seed. The NFL decided to ignore its own rules in the rulebook and make up rules for a canceled game and hand KC the #1 seed.
Hopefully, KC gets knocked out in the first game and the AFC championship game is Bills vs Cincy.

As for the Buccaneers, the reality is if they can put a full game together with healthy players they can beat anyone in the NFC, except potentially the Eagles. Every team in the NFC except the Eagles have major flaws. But… We’ve been waiting 17 games for that. It would be one hell of a playoff run though

  22. Joe Says:

    The nfl screwed the bucs.

A losing team not only made the playoffs by the grace of God but also got a home game. And somehow the NFL screwed the Bucs???? Really?

If anything the Bucs screwed the NFL.

  23. Gman Says:

Just here to see the morons cry about us playing on Monday night. We need as much time to get ready for this game. Who cares about round two if we don’t get past round one.

  24. Joe Says:

We need as much time to get ready for this game.

Who knows, that extra day (two days?) could mean the difference between Nick Leverett at center or Ryan Jensen.

  25. Rod Munch Says:

The only team getting “screwed” are the Buffalo Bills.

    ———-

If their players weren’t a quitters and finished the game, they’d have home field advantage. But instead they did what Gen Z and Millenials do, and quit. Screw them, I hope they get knocked out early, they deserve nothing except a participation trophy.

  26. AmauryGuzman Says:

Joe a losing team? They would be above 500 if Brady had played all game and probably better record if they had an actual good coaching staff

  27. Bucsfan13 Says:

    The Brady effect

  28. Marc Coppola Says:

As long as Kenny Albert isn’t calling the game its fine by me. His voice is terrible and he is a bad omen for the Bucs…. I CANT STAND that guy.

  29. Joe Says:

Joe a losing team? They would be above 500 if Brady had played all game

Agree but you are what your record says you are. The Bucs record is 8-9.

  30. Steven007 Says:

David, thank you. Some of these weirdos are obsessed with the day we play the game. Yes, if we happen to win it’ll be one less day of prep. BFD. It happens all the time throughout the season with Monday night games and Thursday night games. And I think there’s more value in having a couple of extra days for our players to get healthy. Remember, it could have been a Saturday game as well. Anyways, none of it matters if we don’t perform. But stop getting your panties in a bunch dudes.

  31. Rod Munch Says:

If you want a good call for the game, listen to the Westwood One broadcast, they do all the national games, and their MNF crew is Kevin Harlan & Kurt Warner, top notch duo, and I hate Kurt Warner and the SCAMS for their cheating in the 99/00 NFC Championship game.

  32. WillieG Says:

    Cowboys, Eagles, 49ers. Sounds doable.

  33. Rod Munch Says:

Even though the Bucs could lose 41-3 vs the Cowboys and it wouldn’t shock me, the only team I’d really be afraid of, where I say the Bucs have no chance, and that’s the 49ers.

Hopefully all the NFC home teams win in week 1 of the playoffs, because I’d much rather play the Eagles than the 49ers. Then we could hope maybe the Vikings could take out the 49ers, doubtful, but they’d have a better shot at it than the Bucs. Then if the Bucs won again, you’d have an NFC championship game in a dome, with the choke artist Cousins vs the clutch GOAT Brady, and I’ll take my chances.

But come on, with these idiots coaching the game are the Bucs really winning even the Cowboys game? Very very unlikely.

    I hope I’m wrong.

  34. Bucfan1988 Says:

Best announcer now BY FARRRRRR is Tony Romo!!!

    That dudes knowledge is scary.
He deciphers the plays before the ball is hiked then tells the viewers, haha!!

  35. Jerry Says:

It’s not the Bucs fault. The NFL made the rule reserving a playoff spot for each division winner, regardless of record. The competition committee has looked at this several times over the years and each time decided to make no changes to the system. In their view, if you win your division, you deserve a spot. Period. End of story. Does that mean if an entire division happens to have a bad year that a losing team gets in but a winning team in another division might miss out? Yeah. And they know that when they made this system. It is what it is.

But having a playoff game on MNF is absolutely ludicrous. It is a tremendous disadvantage. And ultimately, neither the Bucs nor the Cowboys will advance past the 2nd round.

  36. Bucsbeast Says:

BUCS vs Cowgirls in the last couple meetings have had Very high ratings and both games came down to the 4th qtr. It makes since from a ratings standpoint. The short week stinks if we win, but we shouldn’t have made it this far anyway. Extra day of healing and practice might help. Also give Leftover sandwich an extra day to prepare gameplan.
1st down run (if it work do it exact play again)
2nd down WR screen (if it works go to 1st down plan)
3rd down dump off to RB.
    Rinse and repeat.

  37. Rod Munch Says:

    Bucsbeast Says:
Extra day of healing and practice might help.

    ———-

A great point, with all the injured guys on the team, an extra day could make all the difference in the world — maybe even open the door for Jensen to return (which I still think is unlikely, but who knows).

  38. Outsider Says:

The people crying about a Monday night game are the same ones that wanted to lose out for a draft pick smh.

  39. MelvinJunior Says:

💯. EXACTLYYYY, “David.” It is PATHETIC.

  40. Manny Says:

I hate waiting longer than anyone else to watch the bucs play their playoff game and possibly be bradys last game. The only upside is the players get more time to heal.

  41. Crickett Baker Says:

Joe said “A losing team not only made the playoffs by the grace of God but also got a home game. And somehow the NFL screwed the Bucs???? Really?
If anything the Bucs screwed the NFL.”

LOVED that comment, Joe. It sure made me smile. Oh, I am one that trashes Aikman, BTW. He has gotten a bit better but he still speaks in overly elongated sentences by employing the word “and” so many times. Terrible run-on sentences. I sometimes wish he would just shut up. I hope the Bucs can break the curse of playing badly on MNF.

  42. IrishTony Says:

I’m not superstitious or anything but this team rarely loses with these 2 guys calling the game and that goes back to the Philly “shut the Vet game” in the 2002 conference finals.

  43. steele Says:

Whether intentional or not, NFL does not want Bucs or Brady to win another SB. They want the old man to go away, please. We knew this with the hellacious schedule, and sure enough, the schedule was bad. Many of us predicted a losing season, and we got it. Bowles and Left did the rest. This oddball zombie team is on life support.

But. As so astutely pointed out above:

“Hopefully all the NFC home teams win in week 1 of the playoffs, because I’d much rather play the Eagles than the 49ers. Then we could hope maybe the Vikings could take out the 49ers, doubtful, but they’d have a better shot at it than the Bucs. Then if the Bucs won again, you’d have an NFC championship game in a dome, with the choke artist Cousins vs the clutch GOAT Brady, and I’ll take my chances.”

There is a path to the most unlikely Super Bowl in history. One that I’m sure Brady is using for motivation. A lot of luck, some sudden burst of enlightenment and energy on the part of the players, and last minute takeover of game management, and….

  44. Rod Munch Says:

IrishTony – that Joe Buck call of the opening kickoff return by Philadelphia… one of the best ever. I can still hear it in my head…

    “Mitchell… Mitchell… Mitchell… down at the 25.”

Gives me goosebumps to this day.

  45. Manny Says:

Im tired of people saying this is bradys first season with a losing record and first lost to the falcons. It clearly doesnt count. He left before halftime lmao. He went 8-8 and ill also point out the fact we were winning when he led the game. I also think godwin is our offensive mvp. If im right the man only played 13 full games. He missed two games and im pretty sure he left early in week 1. Correct me if im wrong, and he left early today. If he plays all 17 were talking 120-125 catches this year easy!!

  46. Mike C Says:

Monday night football does not belong in the PLAYOFFS!

  47. Bucobill999 Says:

Cant wait to hear Aikmans cow jotto favoritism

  48. BucU Says:

Dallas needs to put this team out of its year long misery. Todd Bowles ought to resign today if he had one ounce of self reflection. Garbage coach = garbage team.

  49. Alanbucsfan Says:

    Cowboys, Eagles, 49ers. Sounds doable.
-unless Giants upset the Vikings, then Bucs would face 49ers in 2nd round.
    So root for the Vikes.

  50. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    @ Bucobill999

    LOL!!!!!

You obviously haven’t heard enough of Aikman broadcasting games, have you??????? I be you haven’t ; because Aikman is probably one of the most UNBIASED commentators of the game on TV.

  51. Daniel Says:

This is probably helpful for the Bucs, but not great from a fan perspective. The extra day or two is helpful for Evans, Hainsey, Jensen, etc.

Let’s be honest…this game is the Bucs Super Bowl. They’re not going into Philly or SF & winning. Against teams with far superior coaches (see SF & Philly) they’ll coach circles around these idiots and it’ll be game over.

  52. Mike Says:

Have a feeling the Bucs are hitting their stride and going to give the Cowboys a beat down. Doesn’t matter that it’s on MNF at all.

  53. Goatfarmer Says:

The best way to hit your stride is to play some starters, get them injured, then play your scrubs, lose embarrassingly, piss off your quarterback, show your rear end to the world having Todd Blowes as your coich.

  54. ClwJB Says:

It’s all about the ratings – MNF Brady VS Americas team

Doesn’t bother me, let’s go win the game – the cowgirls are ripe for a steamrolling

I think the Giants are going to upset the Yikes and we are going to SF next

Cross country on the short week, let’s go!

  55. TheBucsAnthem Says:

I’m just glad Aikman is commentating on this game because I cannot stand Collinsworth’s Whinny voice…..annoying.

  56. Statistically Insignificant Reader Says:

Heck Yeah….Bowles Leftwich Circle jerk Shet show on Prime Time!!

  57. D-Rok Says:

Well, we are IN the playoffs for the 3rd year in a row. I know we’ve had a down year and it doesn’t sound like many fans have much optimism for any serious playoff run.

But, ANY team can get hot in the playoffs. Even our team.

    GO BUCS!!!

  58. NEfan Says:

Nothing more relaxing than watching a Bucs game before you go to bed.

  59. PewterStiffArm Says:

Let’s see how many Bucs season ticket holders sell their seats to Dallas fans, priceless.

  60. donuts Says:

I am wondering if we will run on every first down?

  61. garro Says:

Kind of a shame MNF cant get some people with a bit of personality to do the broadcasts. These guys bore me to death.
